Editorial Review

Maisy the mouse and her friends Cyril, Charley, and Tallulah have a busyday of gardening, painting pictures, cleaning the playroom, and romping at theplayground. Young readers can lift the flaps--all 36 of 'em--to learn aboutnumbers, colors, shapes, and opposites as the pals go about their day. Whatobjects in the playroom match the shapes on the flaps? What color completes thepictures of carrots, whales, and grasshoppers? The oh-so-cute Maisy is a hugefavorite with children, who watch her on TV and read about her in Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for any Maisy fan.
My daughter can't get enough of this book. She could sit in front of it all day long, opening all the flaps and staring at all the details in the pictures. She is on a real Maisy kick, so I knew she would love it, but I had no idea how much.Three months after I first got it for her (she is 21 months now), I still know that it will hold her attention when I pull it out. That's a valuable tool for the mother of an active toddler!

5-0 out of 5 stars Maisy + Flaps = Winner!!!
My 2 year old loves Maisy!I got this book for him a year ago, and it is still a favorite. He has been able to tear some of the flaps off, like most of his flap books.Nonetheless we love the large size, bold colors, lots of flaps, simple images - a great buy!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT FOR KIDS WHO LOVE THE FLAP BOOKS!

Editorial Review

Gaily tied up with two red ribbons, Lucy Cousins's unusual, delightful, virtually wordless "book" is in fact a triple pop-up. When you open the covers (vertically, like a door, rather than horizontally), you are introduced to this endearing rodent's kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom, like three little dollhouses. In the boldly colorful kitchen is a pop-up table and chairs, and a pop-out-from-the-wall set of cabinets, complete with a range that opens to reveal a baking pie, and many other distractions. Turn the "page" and you come to a bathroom complete with a mirror on the wall, a liftable toilet seat, and a little figure of Maisy to stand in the shower stall. Each room comes with a sheet containing cut-out objects like clothing and small furnishings, to be arranged at will. In the bedroom, a tab turns a window scene from day to night and back again, and a clothes chest has real sliding drawers. Maisy is a character small children can fall in love with. Ingenious. 5-0 out of 5 stars Maisy's Big Flap Book
Allthe children I work with love this book(pre-school age). They are engaged for extended periods of time in pretend play. Also a wonderful educational tool in which to elicit important vocabulary.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!
I bought this because my daughter LOVES Maisy.I thought she was too young for it (2 years old), but one rainy day I pulled it out because I was deperate for something to do.She loved it immediately and played with it for hours! My only suggestion is to laminate or tape up (with clear packing tape) the Maisy and Panda since they get worn out very easily.I know Maisy's arms don't move then, but my daughter didn't seem to mind.Otherwise, this will provide hours of fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
I purchased this book and the Maisy Farm book to take on vacation with us. They traveled well and when we opened the book we loved the playhouse. My 3 year old laughed with joy when she say Maisy and all the wonderful things in her house. Best yet - when we left vacation we folded the book and packed it. This is one of her favorite toys now. ... Read more

My 21 month loves Maisy. She enjoys "looking" for Maisy and her friends in this lift the flap book. This book also introduces counting numbers, colors and shapes. A great book for toddlers. Another great Maisy book is Maisy's Playhouse.

Editorial Review

Who knew school could be this much fun? Maisy paints pictures, writes stories, dances like a ballerina, and even adds and subtracts in this interactive book about the cheery little mouse. Pull a tab to make the pencil in Maisy's paw scribble back and forth in her notebook. Lift the lid of a red chest to find costumes for dress-up. And pull another tab to see the fish in the aquarium dart from behind the plant when Maisy tosses food their way. Fans of the lovable white mouse will adore this story from Lucy Cousins, especiallypre-preschoolers who are wondering just what goes on in this mysterious school they've been hearing about. Large print, crayon-bright colors, and thickly outlined pictures make Maisy stories a favorite for the youngest readers (or almost-readers). Catch Maisy and her friends on TV (Nick Jr.), as well as in her many other endearing books, including Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Memorable but less desirable pull-tabs
My son enjoys all the Maisy books.Maisy Goes to School is no exception. When he talks about school and you ask him a question he correlates to Maisy. This to me is a great children's book when a child remembers. However, the "Lift-The-Flap & Pull-The-Tap" was found it to be less desirable. We have had no difficulty in the construction of other "pull-tab" Maisy books (ie "Seasons") but all the "pull tabs" in "Maisy Goes to School" do not withstand a child pulling, mostly the one for the pencil.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for toddler/preschool age!
The "peek-a-boo" flaps, pull tabs, action and simple language in this book made it a big hit with our two children -- (one toddler and one preschool age)! The darling mouse, Maisy, does lots of activities at school, such as paints pictures, writes a story, dances like a ballerina, and even adds and subtracts! Like other lift the flap/pull the tab books, your child can interact with this book.My preschool age daughter has evenlearned to add and subtract from this book and very much enjoys"reading" the book to me!The Maisy books are a huge success inour home...we're ordering four more to add to our growing collection! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This Books Gives a Priceless Smile
The color and story of Maisy books are just right for a child of a young age. Each page is bright and creative. When reading this book to my nephew, (who is less than 1 year old), and seeing his mother reading it to him, there was something about this particular book that made him smile above any other book read to him. In fact, every Maisy book brought on a smile. Other books didn't make him smile so widely.5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Gave A Priceless Smile

I got this book, in fact, a gift set when my first-born was 11 months old. She is a year now and my husband reads this to her every evening before her bed time in both language - English and Mandarin, while she is holding the Maisy in her hands.

Editorial Review

Maisy the marvelous mouse is ready to take the plunge--but she needs the assistance of young readers to get properly prepped for the pool. Dressed for the arctic tundra, this rodent has a lot of disrobing to do. By lifting flaps and pulling tabs, kids can help Maisy peel down to her skivvies. After removing her blue hat and scarf, brown boots, red coat, gray sweater, green trousers, purple T-shirt, yellow socks, and orange undies, Maisy is finally ready to don her rainbow-striped swimsuit and leap into the water (hopefully mice can swim). Youngsters will delight in Lucy Cousins's charming illustrations, as well as the tugging, lifting, and sliding involved in this interactive book. The many colors and clothes provide an excellent learning opportunity, but kids will appreciate Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Maisy the Swimmer is Great
Maisy captures a child's attention.Maisy is going swimming. Most preschool children love to play in water. This book teaches children their colors and the names of articles of clothes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bobbing along
Good old Maisy. Her adventures tend to be as large or small as the daily activites that children themselves partake in.Appearing in cleverly constructed (and mighty strong) books, Maisy is cheery without ever becoming pendatic. She's light-hearted but never tiring.Maisy is, in fact, the perfect companion for any child beginning to read. She is also a great help to those parents that want their kids to see reading as a fun activity.4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun to read
This book has a very simple concept - taking off all of Maisy's many layers of clothing and then putting on her bathing suit so that she can go swimming. My 2 year old son loves it to pieces - literally.Unfortunately it's not very robust, but even now with half the pages in tatters it's still one of his favorites. ... Editorial Review

Guess where Maisy the mouse lives. Does she live in the pigpen? "Oink! The pigs live here." Does she live in the hen house? "Cluck! The hens livehere." Does she live in the stable? "Neigh! The horses live here." With large, sturdy flaps, this pint-sized board book will appeal to every toddler's gigglysense of humor. (Silly! Maisy doesn't live in the dog house!) In her picturebooks about the endearing Maisy, the talented Lucy Cousins rustles up the idealpreschool picture-book recipe: simple, repetitive text and boldly outlined, brightly colored pictures. As Maisy's many devotees will attest, pretty muchanything she does is worth reading about. Need proof? Try another Maisy title--or take two, they're small!--Read more

Ayla, my 16 month old grand-daughter, just loves this book. She also loved the Karen Katz books, too, as she is into lifting the flap books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Maisy's a winner
My two year old son loves the Maisy books and so do I - the illustrations are so appealling! He really enjoys this book. The premise is very simple - does Maisy live in the stable? no, the horses do etc - but it lends itself to racuous shouts of "no" as he lifts the flap on each page, which is a lot of fun. It's also very robust, which I appreciate. So far none of the flaps have been torn off.My only criticism is that it's very short.I feel a bit cheated by that.If you're after one fun flap book, I would recommend "Where's Spot" ahead of Maisy. ... my daughter, 22months old loved it. she loved it and we worked on her speech going through the animals.

5-0 out of 5 stars a must have for animal lovers!!!!!!!!!!!
my 13 month old ADORES this book!he has learned several of the animals in it and now walks around saying 'goose!goose!' all the time.the book is small enough to fit in a diaper bag and sturdy enough to take on the go.the colors are bright and the pictures are chunky and clear.FABULOUS BOOK for little ones!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars tiny, colorful, fun
From my one-and-a-half-yr-old's perspective this book has all the elements of a favorite: it's tiny (about 4x4 inches), illustrated in bright bold colors, and full of animals that he can identify by name.I just wish I'd found it when he was younger -- it seems like the type of book a 6 or 9-month old could enjoy, and I'm afraid its too simple to hold his attention much past 18 months.

3-0 out of 5 stars I was disappointed by the lack of light, too.
Like the other reviewer, I was looking forward to the stars lighting up in this book, and was disappointed to find that feature missing from the book I received.I had to come back to the product page to see if I had misunderstood the description, and now I find that the only mention of the book lighting up is on the cover photo, so disregard that photo. The book is otherwise beautiful, with vivid, gorgeous colors, and I would never have been disappointed had I not had the misunderstanding about the light effect. My daughter loves all things Maisy, so this is a hit with her, and like the other reviewer mentioned, she doesn't know that anything is missing, so she would probably give it five stars.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sweet books, but where's the Night Light?
Maisy watches the sunset and gets ready for bed. It's a very sweet book with pretty sunset backgrounds. However the night light advertised on the front of the cover is missing. We complained to Amazon and they sent a replacement, which also did not have the night light feature.Too bad, I'm sure my kids would've loved a book that lights up!But they don't know it was supposed to have a light and enjoy it anyway.I guess we parents are the only disappointed ones. ... We've had Maisy's Christmas at my house for a couple of years and read it all year long.
3-0 out of 5 stars Maisy at the Grocery Store
If you are the parent of a young child, you probably know who Maisy is. She's a mouse with a duck, a squirrel, an elephant, and a crocodile for friends. Why the crocodile isn't trying to eat the others is beyond me, but that's life in Maisy's world.5-0 out of 5 stars Great toddler book
In this book Maisy and Charley go grocery shopping. My two year old loves grocery shopping and is fascinated by the book. We read it over and over and over. Actually it is great for me too, because I use it to talk about what kind of foods we can buy at the grocery store. Maisy and Charley buy apples, bananas, yogurt, bread etc... It is a good opportunity to get in a plug for nutritious foods. ... Read more

Editorial Review

It's one of those unwritten laws of life: run a bath, and the doorbell rings. For Maisy the mouse, bathtime looks like it may never happen. She runs the water, puts in some bubbles, drops in her rubber ducky, and... "Ding, Dong!" Maisy's friend Tallulah the duck is at the door, tennis racket in wing, wanting to play. Maisy asks her to come back later. But as soon as Maisy undresses and pops in her bubbly bath, the doorbell rings for a second time. It's Tallulah, coming to play Read more

We were given this book as a hand me down in a bag of about 50 others. This is my 22 month old's favorite of them all and I'm here to buy more Maisy books. She can't wait until the end when Tallulah jumps in the tub so she can say "no no!"Last night I had to read it to her 3 times in a row!She loves it but I need some variety!:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Tallulah, You Naughty Thing You!
Yep- it's a keeper. Maisy is just so patient and wonderful, as always. But pushy, impatient Tallulah keeps showing up. What can Maisy do?? Nothing, it seems, cause Tallulah is going to do just what she wants, which is play with Maisy. This one caused some concern for my 3-year old son, who wanted to know if I'd be angry if *his* friend, "a girl with braids" came and took a bath with *him*. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Bold, block-color paintings of Maisy the mouse and friends make up this very simple, very appealing alphabet book. Maisy is a happy little rodent with a cheeky smile who journeys (in many changes of clothing) through a landscape of other animals. On the first page, she is traveling by "Bb--boat"; she sees a patch of seaweed, which opens like a door to display a hidden "Cc--crab"; her yellow sail folds back to reveal that she is riding with a stowaway "Aa--alligator"; and a pull-tab sends a purple "Dd--dolphin" leaping from the blue water. Elsewhere, insects flap their wings, a kite flutters, Maisy's prominent orange whiskers twitch, and a tortoise and a squirrel strum at a ukulele and a violin while Maisy herself plays the xylophone. This clever, effective use of pop-ups and pull-tabs make this ABC book--and perhaps the ABCs themselves--memorable. (Baby to 4) Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My baby loved this book to pieces!
This book was the first to catch my baby's attention. At as early as 9 months, he was selecting this book every night. He loves to pull the various flaps and moving parts himself.I've purchased other Maisy books since then, and while my son enjoys them very much, the ABC book is still his favorite.I'm buying a second copy now to replace the first one he loved to pieces. ...
