5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Incredible
I was in awe when my son received the Dinosaur book for Christmas from his Grandfather. I saw this book in a Parents magazine and had to get it based on the fact that the Dino one was incredible. My 3 year old loves it! It's not a book to let him play with unless you want it destroyed. Instead, this book allows us to make some quality time for each other when we sit down and look through it. It's very informational, and as he grows older I'm sure he'll read it, but at this point the pop-ups are worth it!

5-0 out of 5 stars My son loves the book
This is a very interesting book.My 5-year old has really enjoyed the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece of Pop-up books.
A Great Book to Read With the Kid on your lap. Probably best for kids in the couple or three grades. Best for kids on your lap because pop-up books are rather fragile. Grabbing the nose of the shark and using it as a handle to lug the book around is likely to lose the nose to your shark.

5-0 out of 5 stars Full fathom five thy father lies
I suppose that there must be some people in world for whom the name "David Wiesner" means nothing. I can't fathom what this kind of an existence must be like. I suppose it would be the literary equivalent of not knowing what chocolate was. Or snow. The minute the new Wiesner book comes out I, like hundreds of thousands of others like me, rush out to purchase it for friends, relatives, and passing acquaintances I met once in the grocery store. Little wonder that the man has won two Caldecott Medals AND two Caldecott Honors. Now one of those numbers is about to change since Wiesner has produced his most ambitious creation to date. Wordless (as always) and more intense than his light-hearted "Tuesday" and "Sector 7" ever were, this is a book overflowing in deep-water mysteries and delights.

5-0 out of 5 stars Is it a song or a book?
Children will get a first, cheerful lesson about the natural world by becoming acquainted with an enchanting baby beluga. The illustrations are a joy, and the song's rhythm and rhyme make it easy to remember and sing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Raffi does it again!
This is a great multicultural book that you can sing/read that has a great soothing melody.Watch out, though, once you start singing this song, it'll be stuck in your head for a long time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Baby Beluga - great book and story for lessons in life
The book "Baby Beluga" is special to me because it is a story of my favorite sea creatures' daily adventures "in the deep blue sea". It inspired me to want to swim like Baby Beluga (a little white whale whose skin shines brightly in dark places and is gentle to people).

5-0 out of 5 stars Adorable book!
My son's first word after mama and dada was "turtle", so I knew this was the book for us.My 12-month-old loves looking at the brightly colored pictures and touching the different textures of all of the turtle's friends. We bring this book everywhere with us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific book for parents and baby!
My daughter was quite a screamer as a newborn, yet somehow staring at this starfish would calm her down within seconds.(Needless to say, that made this book my favorite very quickly!)She's moved through lots of different phases in her first 10 months, and nearly every page has been a favorite at some point.I like the rhymes myself, and I don't mind reading it again and again.

This is one of my favorite childhoold books. I fell in love with swimmy & Fredrick. I really love Leo Lionni's books. I still have copies of all his book and have purchased these books for my little brothers. The art is beautiful, and really makes the book that much better. You cannot go wrong buying this book for any child.

5-0 out of 5 stars Did you buy the stuffed Personal Penguin?
I'm not sure if many know this, but there is actually a stuffed penguin specially made to go with this book. Our local bookstore had it- what a cute gift set for a child!I must admit I've not been a huge Sandra Boynton fan in the past, but this was so cute (love the penguin) that I bought some as Christmas gifts and a set for myself too!I also downloaded Davy Jones from the Workman site, and I'm sure my nieces will love it too!Cheers!

5-0 out of 5 stars I want a personal penguin, too!
This book has a gentler charm than many of Boynton's titles, but it contains all of the warm humor and originality we've come to expect from her work. It's the story of an earnest little penguin longing to be best buddies with a skeptical hippo. The interaction of words and pictures makes the relationship between these two quirky animals unique, lively, and touching. I wish I had a Personal Penguin who adored me like that! Boynton also deftly translates this story's appeal to music, and the book includes a free download of "Your Personal Penguin" the song, delightfully performed by Davy Jones (of "The Monkees.") If you like a sweet tale with subtle wit, you'll love Your Personal Penguin!

2-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly dull
I love Sandra Boynton books, and have purchased each and every one.I pre-ordered this book a few months ago, and was very excited to receive it.After reading it, I was very disappointed. It lacks the spark, wit, and imagination of her previous works, and I doubt I'll even read it to my kids.It contains a nice sentiment, but I could spend a couple of dollars on a greeting card and get the same message.I'll think twice before pre-ordering another of her books. ... Not blessed with the adorable good looks of a koala, the mythic mystery of a dinosaur, or even the useful familiarity of a dog, the manatee is an infrequent hero in the world of children's literature. I found the book to be humorous and engaging. The rhymes were remenisant of Dr. Seuss' style. At the same time, Lithgow has a paticular wit that stands out, and is enjoyable for the adult reader as well. As a librarian, I recommend it.

This book was very good to read. It talked about a crab who wanted to find friends to go along wiht his new home. He found so many friends and all of them was convient to his new house.

5-0 out of 5 stars So many great lessons in this book!
My 3.5 year old son loves this book - we are typically reading it at least twice a day.I love that there is a since of time involved, as each page covers a month in the year.Great for a preschooler who is just learning to get a grip on the calendar. The hermit crab forms symbiotic relationships with other sea creatures; another great lesson. Also super fun to read out load with lots of opportunities to "do" the different voices. There is a glossary in back - perhaps a little advanced for a 3 yr old, but I enjoyed that the first time I read through the book - it will be good when my son is a little older.I like that, although our hermit crab has to eventually leave his friends behind in search of a new home, he is able to pass along his old home to a younger crab. All this with the style of illustrations that we have all come to love in eric Carle books, makes this one a big winner!

3-0 out of 5 stars Oh Well... Everyone Else Loves It But Us :-(
This is a nice story and I thoroughly enjoyed it but I have to say that my two children (3 and 5) did not.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great science book for children
An unusual science teacher takes her students from the classroom into the ocean - physically. The school bus she drives plunges right into the water and transforms, as needed, from bus into submarine, submersible, and surfboard so that her class can reach and explore every part of the ocean. The expedition starts at the continental shelf and moves through continental slope, ocean floor, deep-sea vents and a fringing coral reef. On their way, they children find themselves magically equipped with diving suits and they can now study plants, ocean water, animals and their habitats.

I think this book is good because it is a true story about a lost humpback whale that goes into the Sacramento River. I like this book because we are studying marine mammals in class.

I first saw this book on Reading Rainbow, one of my favorite PBS shows as a kid. The story fascinated me, and I'm glad I was able to get my hands on a copy. It's about a whale who can't seem to stay with his family (which all kids can identify with at one time or another), and how the community helps him find them again.

Charlotte Zolotow is such a talented writer! This has to be one of the best books about the ocean I have ever seen.It is a true out of body experience.I'm sitting a few hundred yards away from the Chespeake Bay and, reading this book, it was like I was lifted out of my chair and transported straight down to the beach. And the concept of being able to explain something so truly and completely that someone who has never experienced it in real life can still catch a glimmer of the feeling is an intriguing one.I can see this book being used in classrooms to introduce descriptive writing and urban children being asked to describe the sights and sounds of the city in such a way that a child from the country can imagine it.Teachers and homeschooling families could find a penpal for each child in a different part of the country to exchange these letters with.Even for an adult, this would be an amazing experience -- to find someone and try to share a little bit of your world with her, and to imagine hers in turn.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Lovely, Lyrical Book!
I bought this book for my children shortly after we spent the summer in a beach house on Hatteras Island, NC. This book completely captures the essence of a day there . . . or on any seashore for that matter. It immediately became one of my children's favorite books as the prose is so evocative and the illustrations so lovely. Seven years later, it is still one of their all-time favorites. Mine, too!Over the years, I have given many copies of "The Seashore Book" as gifts and have received nothing but rave reviews from parents and children. I've just ordered another copy from Amazon to give as a new baby gift. You see, this book is truly timeless. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Graeme Base is a genius!
Not only is the book cleverly written, the illustrations are exceptional!I stayed up for hours pouring over the pages.None of his books has yet to bore me.No matter how many times they're read, there is always something new to be discovered.GB is my FAVORITE children's picture book author!Extraordinary! This mystery aspect of this book will interest older children with more advanced thinking skills. But, as a book by itself it still is a fun adventure for kids of any age.

The Book I read was called The Sign of the Seahorse. This book was one of the most detailed picture books I have ever read. It is about fish that own a bar called the Seahorse and how some of them have to save the town from a villain and his thugs. In the book the bar owner's daughter falls in love with one of the heroes, and his son tries to fight the thugs. Will they be able to stop the villain before it's to late? You will have to read it to find out.I would recommend this book to a young child who enjoys adventure, fantasy, or likes reading about fish. This fishy tail was written by Graeme Base.-Jake

The Sign Of The Seahorse is one of the best books I have ever read!!! I love the ocean and the discription of the scences and you never get confused about anything. You can really relate to the story even if you are not a fish. Everthing makes sense and it also shows that alot of people alwayswant something better, yet some are already happy with what they have. I would give anyone this book to read because it is just so well writen, the author is totally brillant. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY CUTE BOOK
This is a great book.My students and my children loved this book.Highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Full of imagination - a wonderful tale!
This is a beautifully written book to read to your young child. It is so full of imagination that you are taken into Dahl's magical world believing that a giraffe, a pelican, and a monkey could do your next window cleaning. We read "James and the Giant Peach" last year, and like that book this one is great read aloud. The action of the book keeps your child on the tips of their toes.It is such fun!
