5-0 out of 5 stars Our Favorite bath book!
I started reading to my daughter while she was bathing at six months and now she ABSOLUTELY LOVES books!I think that is a very healthy and wonderful thing!!I attribute this love of books to the four baby einstein books we have read at bathtime for the past year every single night (we also have water water everywhere, mimi's toes & what floats). My daughter never gets sick of the stories and now that she is 16 mos. she loves to point out the animals on the last page; I ask her where is the duck? Where is the turtle? And she points to it, etc.It has been a wonderful teaching tool for me, and I wholeheartedly recommend all four baby einstein books for bathtime.Mine don't have sharp edges.Especially when they are warm from the bathwater. They're exceptionally well made, too.Used every night for a year and still they look like new!Read to your kids at bathtime - they can't run away or lose intrest - you've got a captive audience!Take advantage of it!

1-0 out of 5 stars SHARP EDGES!!
This is a cute book, but it's useless.I won't let my 7 month old use it because I'm afraid the sharp edges of the book will cut his mouth (or hands, or legs).

5-0 out of 5 stars My sons first bath book and still his favorite
My husband and my 9 month old son take their baths each night together in our jacuzzi tub.My son has loved his baths from the very beginning and we were looking for something for him to do in the bathtub. He loves books and reading so we happened to find this one and excitedly purchased it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Accurate, fun pictures.
This is a book which is accurate in its drawings, with the official names for many, if not all, the different species.I am an adult, a frustrated artist with no talent whatsoever for drawing.I have really enjoyed coloring these pictures with colored pencils. There is a lot of small detail work in some of the pictures, which I think would be difficult with crayons, but of course, all the detail doesn't need to be observed. I have loved this book and have colored 2/3 of the pictures. It is my favorite of the half dozen coloring books I bought. There are completed colored pictures of about a quarter of the drawings, which I appreciate very much, as it gives inspiration to those of us who would like to experiment with shading, etc. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Preschool class loves this book
I checked this book out of our local library when I was teaching a unit on "oceans" to my preschool class. The children listened closely as the suspense built in this story and the surprise ending was wonderful. The children understood the food chain concept and have asked me several times to "Read it again!" It has also triggered a renewed interest in the children for using their own imaginations to create stories of their own creation. I am ordering a copy for our own personal library. This one is a keeper!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Elementary Teacher
This is a great book to use to introduce children to the concept of food chains and food webs...And the pictures are gorgeous!

5-0 out of 5 stars What a Beautiful Book!
I bought this book for my six year old son.He and his brother have always loved Jerry Pallotta's alphabet books, so I thought we'd give this book atry! Boy, are we glad that I did! The illustrations are beautiful, and asalways Mr. Pallotta gives children information in a way that they canunderstand - but without talking down to them. My son really loved thetwist at the end of the story. He was relieved that Danny wasn't out thereinthe ocean all by himself! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sea Squares is Great!
I like this book because it tells you how to times,1 x 1 = 1, 10 x 10 = 100, like that.I also like this book because it goes from 1 to 10 and shows you sea life. And sometimes on the right side margin of the page you see part of what animal comes next. When you see a white tale, you know the next page is a whale, and if you see wings, you know the next page is a seagull.
5-0 out of 5 stars Nifty nimble numbers
Joy Hulme's Sea Squares is a fun rhyming romp that illustrates the concept of squaring numbers. The rhyme has a definite rythem to it and the illustrations are superb. The borders on each page hint and what thereader will find when the page is turned. The gorgeous use of color inthese seascapes delights the eye.I won't buy a children's book unless theillustrations are at least as good as the text.My children love the bookand didn't even realize it was a "math" book. I highly recommendadding it to your collection. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, simple, and intruiging!
"Draw 50 Sharks..." is an excellent book for children and adults interested in marine life, and at the same time wish to appreciate art. I found the step-by-step sketch examples non-intimidating as some drawingbooks present themselves. Children will find this book useful as a templatefor drawing sea creatures, and can improvise from them. The book is a"must-read" for children. Teachers should incorporate this bookinto their curriculum as a way to spark creativity in children. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Clever Concept!
My daughter just had a birthday last week, and so my brother sent her some books. One of them was "Under the Sea" and the other was "Under the Ground".They are both being enjoyed by my kids (5 and 3) and me!They aren't very long, but they are VERY CLEVER.Every two-page spread has information and drawings on one side, and then a plastic page on top of a black page on the other. You punch out a paper 'flashlight' that is located in the back of the book, slide it under the plastic and are then able to see/highlight what is hidden underneath. We've been looking at them daily and are happy to have them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Under the Sea (First Discovery Book : Hidden World)
I was amazed at how my two and a half year old was totally taken by thisbook. The concept so simple but so very effective. The flashlight is adefinate asset. The animal descriptions are short and concise and thepictures are just perfect. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Step Into Reading level 3: Dolphins: Great book, but not the best level
You can call me StoryMaker. Step into Reading: Dolphins is a great book that teaches how dolphins are intellegent and have their own personalities. It's a great book, but they rate it level 3. Step into Reading's level 3 seems too easy for a level 3. More like a level 2. Of course, SIR has lots of levels, but people might think that it will help their 2nd grader read. It probably won't. Overall, a great book about dolphins' reactions with people, but remember, it might not be as challenging as you suspected. Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!"

4-0 out of 5 stars A picture book, people's interactions with dolphins

5-0 out of 5 stars An informative book
Dolphins and Sharks is a non-fiction companion to Dolphins at Daybreak. It contains a lot of facts and information. It is a Magic Tree House Research Guide (a stepping stone book). It talks about dolphins and sharks, how they communicate and how they are different from each other. I like thisbook very much because I love dolphins.I am sure that fans of dolphins and sharks, and the Dolphins at Daybreak book, will enjoy 'Dolphins and Sharks: Magic Tree House Research Guide'.

5-0 out of 5 stars A VERY WELL DONE AND INFORMATIVE BOOK - KIDS LOVE THIS ONE
There is so much information packed into this work that it is difficult to imagine how the author and illustrator pulled it off. This is the story of the life cycle of the loggerhead turtle. The illustrations are beautiful and actually quite accurate. The text is simple and very, very well done.It follows the illustrations perfectly and is just overflowing with good information. This book, while great for kids to read on their own (this is one of the more used books in our school library), it is also great to read to the class as a whole as it never fails to bring on good questions and good discussions (better know your turtles when faces with a bunch of third graders).

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Book!
I like this story because it tells me a lot about loggerhead turtles. My favorite part about the story is the interesting fact that turtles cry. I never knew that! Turtles lay one to ten eggs, but at least five live. I learned that. They lay their eggs at night. I like this book because it is a wonderful story about turtles and I think everyone should read it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun to Read and Very Educational.
This interesting book explains to children the basic life cycle of a loggerhead sea turtle. The book opens with a brief introduction explaining that a sea turtle is related to tortoises and terrapins, but they are different types of animals. After the one-page introduction, the actual story begins. We follow the life cycle of a sea turtle called Loggerhead from the time she is a small turtle living and hiding in sea weeds and drift wood to the time Loggerhead swims to the mating beaches to mate and lay her eggs. The last pages of the book include a brief index that can help teach children what an index is and how to use it. ONE TINY TURTLE is a great reading science book for young children. It's very factual and realistic in displaying and describing what we know of the life of a sea turtle (for instance, after the eggs are hatched, it makes it clear that only a few baby turtles ever make it to the ocean and the rest are eaten by crabs and birds). Highly recommended, especially for anyone who likes turtles. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Accurate and fun information
This book gives good basic information on penguins in a very fun format. The poems are catchy.I teach 3-6 year olds and I caught them repeating the phrases they liked the best.I highly recommend it for this age group.

5-0 out of 5 stars reading aide
I bought this book for my son since he is interested in penguins. Most penguin story books are promoted to toddlers or are penguin science books; not books for fictional reading for older children.Normally he doesn't choose to read but when he received this book for christmas, he immediately put down his other items and began to look through the book.Later that evening, before bedtime, he chose to read his book before going to sleep. He also liked that the book had poems; something he's been studying in school and hasn't seen how it could be fun to read. Now he likes them a little more.I'm glad it will help to promote more reading for him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Poems About Penguins.
First of all, I love this book because I love penguins. However, as a piece of children's literature, it's so much more. This is an excellent example of how literature (poetry) and science can go hand and hand. There are some poems in this book that seem written just for fun, (e.g. "Be My Penguin"). However, most of the poems in this book are written about and around actual behaviors that penguins exhibit: from regurgiating their food to feed the young ("Regurgitate") to the motherly instincts of father penguins ("A Hatchling's Song" and "My Father's Feet")to poetic riddles about penguin predators (sea lion, killer whale). The book is charming, easy to read, and full of delightful penguin illustrations. A great gift for any child interesting in science or literature or anyone who (like me) just loves penguins. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book on Community and Relationships
I purchased this book (among many on here) for my unit on whales and the Inuit (Eskimo) people for my first grade class. This was a great book to share the relationship the people have with whales. It also shared a wonderful way the communities work together as well. What a great book! If you like whales, this is a great one to read to children!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Surprising
Although technically a children's book, "A Symphony of Whales" shook me up and blew me away with rich illustrations and an even more potent story.Sweet and simple, author Schuch tells the beautiful story of an Inuit girl and her whale spirit friend "Narna" -- and (not to give away the ending) the dramatic escape of three thousand whales trapped in an icy inlet of the Pacific ocean.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a true phonics reader
These books contain difficult blends and sight words from the earliest book.Making it very difficult for children who are truly just learning each sound.By the time a child is able to read some of the difficult content in these books, they probably no longer need to worry or think about what a short a and a long a is, because they are more fluent readers.

I brought these books into my struggling first grade readers and they LOVED them.Sure, sure -- Dr. Seuss would be best -- but sometimes a teacher needs to take what she/he can get.My kids will ask me when I'm going to "let" them read Spongebob again. The phonics are fairly sound and almost all children in your classroom will have a schema for Spongebob. If you believe any reading is good reading -- bring these titles into your early primary classroom. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars We saw the exhibit!
I just ordered this book, but it has to be five stars. My wife and I saw the Sharkabet exhibit last fall at the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, Montana, and it was super! We have several of Ray Troll's T-shirts, and I hope that some of the Sharkabet pictures turn up on T-shirts.

5-0 out of 5 stars The ABC's of Shark Evolution and Diversity
The time has come for a terrific book like this. Sharks are the subject of widespread and abiding public interest, an interest spurred on by (often sensationalist) media portrayals. As author Peter Benchley writes, "(The) long term reaction to Jaws has been not hatred but facination," while Time magazine in response to an apparent spate of shark attacks last year, pronounced summer 2001 "The Summer of the Shark". Despite the prevailing fascination with sharks, the animal -- like science as a whole -- continues to be shrouded in misconceptions, and these misconceptions, in turn, have placed sharks in great peril. Ray Troll's engaging art and essential text present the little known depths of shark diversity with a hip whimsical flair. Beautifully designed, this very high quality printing from WestWinds Press does justice to Troll's delightful, yet scientifically accurate, rendering. A quick shout-out to the scientists whose research Ray has brought to life, especially the paleontologists. Ray has given flesh to the bones of their long gone critters. Hopefully, this "back to basics" book will offer a more balanced view of those endangered predators still with us in Earth's oceans today.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Sharkfeed of Fun!
I find myself coming back to this book again and again to study the brightly-colored illustrations and tasty chunks of spellbinding sharklore. As a teacher of native English in Japan, I can testify to SHARKABET's popularity with children and adults alike; it even cuts across the language barrier with its visual wonders. In addition to pictures of unusual sharks in their native habitats, there are also fanciful but realistic scenes that leave my students gaping, such as sharks swimming in the air (for comparison with we earthbound types).Although I find the extinct prehistoric sharks to be the most fascinating -- some with mouths that look like power tools -- the little-known living sharks give their predecessors a run for their money (look for the Cookie Cutter Shark). The colors are vivid and lifelike, the facts seem like something out of God's own Sci-Fi Playroom, and even the experts find new treats to chew on in this excellent, amazing wonder. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Trite and rather disappointing
When I first read "Rainbow Fish to the Rescue," I had to check to make sure this book had, indeed, been written by the author of the original Rainbow Fish book."Rescue" has the feeling of a quickly-cranked-out sequel, one that the author of the original would never have approved had he been given the choice.
5-0 out of 5 stars Rainbow Fish tot the Rescue ~ Marcus Pfister
This is a great book no teaching children how to except others. When all the fish with a sparklie fins are playing a game. They do not let a little fish without a sparklie fin play.Rainbow Fis wants to invite him to play yet doesn't know what his friends will think of him.He is afraid to stand up to his knew friends.Instead of standing up for what he believes. He follows his friends and does whatever they do.Later on in this book Rainbow Fish saves the day.4-0 out of 5 stars Rainbow Fish to the Rescue ~ Marcus Pfister
This is a good childrens book on teaching kids how to behave.Children do not know how to behave properly. But when you tell them through books, and use characters like Rainbow Fish, then it is easier for them to understand. It is a great book for kidst o read to understand how to expect peoples differences.Everyone is different in their own ways, it is just harder for some people to realize it.Everyone has their own special qualities, people just need to learn that we are all different.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Check it out!
This is a great read for early learners who are just being introduced to the concepts of the flow of water. Two young children, one boy and one girl, follow rain water from brook to ocean. The book goes into enough detail to give the reader a base, and includes a few other pieces of information that might urge your reader to explore more. ...
