4-0 out of 5 stars My daughter loved it
She read it in one day. Only eight years old, it's nice to find a series of books that she will read. The story is filled with many good morals and adventures which kept her interested. Her favorite part was when Jody was pushed and the dolphin found and rescued her.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book Ever!!!
The book Dolphin Diaries is a WONDERFUL BOOK! Jody goes on a boat ride and the name of the boat is Dolphin Dreamer. Then this mean girl shows up named Brittany, and she almost ruins the whole trip. One day, when Jody is outside on the boat Brittany comes and pushes Jody off of the boat. And Jody has nobody to save her. Then all of sudden it started to storm really really bad. She could not see anything at all. Then out of the blue came a DOLPHIN. And he took her to the Dolphin Dreamer. And Jody decided to give the dolphin a name. Which she named him Apollo. So if you like dolphins, and books get you thinking this is the right book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOTS OF FUN
This book is so much fun.The rhymes make it fun to read over and over, and the illustrations are absolutely incredible corner to corner. The story is so cute. Not too long, not too short. We love it and also purchased Camping Spree W/ Mr. Magee and that too is a must have!Chris Van Dusen did not disappoint!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hooray for Mr. Magee!
We bought this book for our (...) son for Christmas.Mr. Magee's first adventure (A Camping Spree With Mr. Magee) has been a favorite of ours for 2 years and his newest adventure quickly became another favorite! The rhymes are so catchy and the story so simple yet we can't seem to get enough of it, and we can't wait to see what sort of crazy situations Mr. Magee and his little dog Dee will get themselves into next.

5-0 out of 5 stars Completely entertaining... destined to be a classic!
Both of Chris Van Dusen's Mr Magee books are incredible, engrossing, beautifully illustrated (and wacky) tales. No kid I know can put them down. My nephew asked to have it read 10 times a day the first week he got it!

Editorial Review

You never have to worry about losing this book at the beach... itfloats! Kids can pop out the soft, nontoxic foam sea creatures to answer therhymes about who they are and feel their bumpy textures. "Who crawls on the seafloor / And skitters up to shore?" Is it a slippery fish, a prickly crab, apuckery sea horse, or a ticklish starfish? Kids remove the brightly coloredshapes, and then easily press them back in. It's a perfect match for the beach, bath, playground--anywhere at all. Check out Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book
My 17 month old son loves this book, I bought the whole textured series for him. He's had the books for several months and had not gotten bored of them. Every adult who comes to the house loves the books and goes to buy them for their own children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and Versatile!
I was given this book as a gift and was immediately taken in by the foam textures and colors.Upon opening the book and discovering text hidden behind the pop out sea creatures, I was thrilled. It is a great first book since the child can feel all the different sea creatures. My 4 month old loved teething on the sea horse! She learned very quickly that she could pop out the creatures and that each felt differently.Furthermore, I could wash them when she finished chewing on them or let her play with them in the bath.5-0 out of 5 stars Good book for babies 0 to 2 years old
My 11-month old baby loves this book. Finally a book that she can play with, and read without destroying it.It has: a fish, a crab, a sea horse, and a starfish. It serves as a bath toy, and is a colorful puzzle. She picks up the pieces and tries to put them back on.It is surviving her teething quite well so far... I'm buying more of that series for her and for gifts! ... Read more

Editorial Review

If you read this very popular book just before bed, and the light is still on in the hallway, you can make the rainbow scales glitter on the page, and realize why the Rainbow Fish was so proud of his beautiful decoration. Sometimes, though, being too proud of outside beauty can blind a fish, or a child (or even, heaven forbid, a parent) to the beauty people hold inside. That's the lesson of this simple tale, imported from Switzerland. It's a useful one for future sneaker and designer clothing shoppers, for rainbow fish--and for quieter, plainer minnows, too. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST books!!
My son (22 months) LOVES this book.I read this book at least once a week.Great for teaching sharing!
5-0 out of 5 stars An Adorable Book With An Outstanding Message!
This is an adorable book! It is fun and easy to read and it has a great message. This book teaches children to share their gifts and talents with others, and that material possessions are not everything in life. This book taught me that in general, people put too much emphasis on material possessions, when we really should be focusing most of our energy on relationships and more important issues that really matter in the world. This book teaches the importance of friendship and overall happiness in life. If children can understand these concepts it will only help them in life. This book shows a fish who starts out being selfish and is very unhappy because he does not have any friends. Eventually, after discussing his lonliness with someone wiser, he shares his rainbow scales with the other fish, who, in return, invite him to join their circle of friends. This simple plot line is easy for children to understand, yet so very important in life. The layout is also simple; there is one paragraph on every other page and it is written with simple language and simple dialogue. Even though this book typically attracts young readers, the message is universal and appropriate for all ages. This is a fantastic book! I highly recommend it to readers of all ages!

1-0 out of 5 stars Why isn't there are 0 star option?
From Publisher's Weekly, '...the lonely fish seeks advice from the wise octopus, who counsels him to give away his beauty and "discover how to be happy."'

5-0 out of 5 stars Skurzynski & Fergeson are faves of our grand kids
We always know that when we give books by Skurzynski & Ferguson, the young readers will soon be engrossed in the interesting characters and their adventures. Just gave three of OUT OF THE DEEP to 3 different age youngsters. All a hit!

5-0 out of 5 stars An exciting mystery novel for young adults
Collaboratively written by Gloria Skurzynski and Alane Ferguson, Out Of The Deep is an exciting mystery novel for young adults which is set in the beautiful Acadia National Park. A baby whale among other marine mammals has beached upon the park shores, and it's up to the intrepid Landon kids to figure out why. Out Of The Deep is a genuinely captivating story that blends adventure with respect for nature and wildlife. Also very highly recommended is another Gloria Skurzynski and Alane Ferguson title in the eleven volume "Mysteries In Our National Parks" series from National Geographic Society, Running Scared (0792282329).

5-0 out of 5 stars The best in ther series so far!
Jack and Ashley Landon love to travel with their mother, a wildlife veterinarian, who is often called to solve animal mysteries, and their father, who hopes to have a career as a photographer. This time they are on their way to Acadia National Park in Maine to investigate why the marine animals are beaching. But Jack and Ashley have a problem. Bindy Callister, the 14- year-old temporary foster child who has just come to live with the Landon family. Bindy is a liar, or at least Jack thinks so. She claims to know the reason for the animal behavior, and the kids find her near a beached baby whale. Bindy slips away during the rescue operation, determined to prove she know why this is happening, and Jack and Ashley get themselves in deeper than they planned for.The mystery is fascinating reading and an educational experience all rolled into one. I think it's the best one yet in this series for upper elementary or older readers. The mother/daughter author team never fail to teach about science, geography, and human behavior. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Young Children Love This Book
As a former marine science teacher, I read this book to every class of Kindergartners I ever had. The kids loved it! It remains one of my all-time favorites for children just learning to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for a hermit crab thematic unit
This is a great book for a primary grade teacher to include in a theme about hermit crabs or sea animals.Other books that are particuarly good are Eric Carle's A House for Hermit Crab and Megan McDonald's Is This a House for Hermit Crab?Moving Day features many opposites with descriptive words that would be great in both language arts and science/math lessons. On several pages, the illustrations in Moving Day have tiny, humorous details that the kids will enjoy discovering. Moreover, the very large print lends itself well to shared reading (reading in which the teacher points to each word as it is being read aloud).A great book for a teacher's Ocean-theme collection!

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful
I bought this book over ten years ago while living in London as a student. Now, married with 3 children, it is a family favorite. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and the story is told in a magical tone. We love to whisper the words on the last page -it always captivates the kids. The part of the story that discusses the purposes of the whale long ago is a bit advanced for small children, but for the older ones it promoted conversation & learning. Buy this book in hardcover to ensure it lasts longer. A WONDERFUL MUST-HAVE for anyone with an imagination!!

I bought this book because my class is studying oceans.I thought the book might be dull but I needed something and didn't find much else.I had already covered whates, dolphins and sharks. So anyway I read it before bringing the book to school and found it entertaining and amusing. The book is not afraid to be funny. It really lightened up the subject and I can't wait to read it to my students. Thanks Jerry!

We had to buy a second copy (a hardcover) because our sons loved the first, paperback, version to death. Taught my kids not only the alphabet but the names of all the fish. I found this book at an aquarium, and bought it as a gift for my 4 y.o. son and 2 y.o. daughter.Too often, books about nature or science for the younger set give too little info (just pictures and names) or the info is just plain inaccurate.Meanwhile, the books for grade schoolers are too complex (and too long for mom to read as a bedtime story.) This book fills the gap perfectly. It gives honest information in a fun, rhyming format.I am here at amazon.com to see what else I can find in this series, which I had never seen before.I am sure to buy more of these.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful information on a child's level
This book is wonderful for children who like to know facts about animalsnot just look at the pictures. The pictures are oil color pictures that areterrific, but the detail about all the types of whales is what kept ourattention. My son is 4 and wants to read it constantly! The book is notlong, but has a lyric quality to it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first...
I'm so glad to see that people aren't in an outrage about this part of the series. I, personally, was a huge fan of the first Rainbow fish book, and my little sister loves "Rainbow Fish to the rescue", but the third enstallment just wasn't as good. I founf myself getting extremely bored as I read it. Basically the fish are all afraid of this big whale thats been watching them from afar. So the usual jerk "The fish with the jagged fins", says that he thinks that whale wants to eat them. So the whale gets angry, and unessacairly scares the fish buy chasing thme around. Why shouldn't they be scared, some whales do eat fish. I just thought it was a bad lesson. But overall, it was ok. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Richie's Picks: SHARK LIFE
SHARK LIfe is exceptionally entertaining and enlightening nonfiction for young adults.Benchley (the author of JAWS) moves back and forth between recounting his own heart-stopping adventures in the sea (sometimes purposely swimming with sharks and other deadly creatures, sometimes accidentally encountering them), and his simple and clear explanations of how man's interference with the balance of the world's oceans has already resulted in some dying regions. He cautions how further degradation of the seas will eventually threaten man's existence on the planet.
