5-0 out of 5 stars Very Enjoyable Read.
I was in need of something a little different than what I typically would read on a Trans-Pacific flight back to the states, and having previously picked up a copy of 'The Black Tattoo' at the BEA show, had packed Sam Enthoven's book with my for the long flight home. I am very glad I did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book Ever

4-0 out of 5 stars It is getting better than ever!
This book is better than the last two because of all the great, awesome action pacts.I was very into the book.In fact, I was so into the book. I finished the book in a couple of days. However, it left so many unknowns after reading Snake, and i cannot wait for the Crane to come out.

5-0 out of 5 stars FIve Ancestors Snake by Jeff Stone
Snake was the most thrilling book yet in the Five Ancestors series.Basically, the whole story starts out at Cangzhen temple where five young monks have to flee after it was destroyed by a traitor. Each of them hurry into a forest and seperate in order to learn about there forgotten past.I like this book the most because it is full of awesome action pact events. BUT, don't feel that's all it's about. It's chock full of secrets that are yet to unfold. I can't wait for Crane to come out.I also suggest you get The previous books in the series which are Tiger and Monkey. Read this book with great care and an open mind. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Neatly done
I wrote a book about teaching martial arts and run a kid's karate class so I believe that I can speak with authority when I say that Rielly's book is well-rounded, easy to read and very child appropriate. It covers all the basics including a brief history of karate, why students might be interested in studying this martial art, an explanation of the karate uniform, description of the dojo (practice hall), discussion of etiquette, overview of warm up routines, explanation of basic techniques, and description of advancement testing practices. If your child is thinking about taking karate this book can help set his/her expectations and increase his/her chance of success. There is a small caveat about the appropriate use of karate in the front but I wish he'd spent a little more time on that particular aspect. New practitioners, especially younger ones, have a tendency to get into trouble for inappropriately trying out their skills on classmates at school. The sensei (teacher) should cover this but it is always good to know ahead of time. All in all, this book is a great overview for kids.
5-0 out of 5 stars A "must-read" for children enrolled in a karate course
Knowledgeably written by Robin L. Rielly (an expert martial artist with decades of experience, a seventh-degree black belt in Shotokan karate as well as a second-degree black belt from Shin Kage Ryu jujutsu), Karate For Kids is a simple but complete introduction to the fitness, self-defense, movements, philosophies, and etiquette of karate for young people. Down-to-earth illustrated instructions and guidelines for proper decorum as well as appropriate physical form make Karate For Kids a "must-read" for children enrolled in a karate course -- or who are considering joining a karate class. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Five young, orphaned monks specializes in a different style of kung-fu reflecting his personality
Book 2 of Jeff Stone's 'Five Ancestors' series, Monkey really deserves a reading of Book 1 for a smooth transition - and be aware, this is a projected seven-book series - but the action- packed martial-arts story set in 17th century China will win fans wherever they begin. Five young, orphaned monks specializes in a different style of kung-fu reflecting his personality: here Malao faces his temple's destruction and an encounter with a band of wood monkeys who save him and introduce him to a wilder side of his soul.

5-0 out of 5 stars Monkey
The Five Ancestors series by Jeff Stone is an exciting series about five young monks from an ancient Chinese temple called Canghzen, or, literally, Hidden Temple. The books are the same story, but from different views, because they split up. I think these books are a great adventure, and I also liked Tiger. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Something Fun for our Young Karate Students
It was nice to finally find a book for even our youngest Karate students. This coloring book has drawings from many different Karate styles so everyone can find some pictures that they can relate to. I was delighted to see that this was not just another coloring book full of drawings of men breaking bricks and boards. The drawings depict good stances and proper form in many karate techniques, not just kicking. I really enjoyed the fact that the drawings equally depict Men and Women. This is a great thing for our young female students that can often feel overwhelmed by the larger male population in most Dojo's.

The Peaceful way takes a simple but detailed approach to training in the martial arts. The target reader age for this book is 8-10years old, and the style fits that range. However, parents who are new to the arts, and instructors new to teaching children wil find this informative, as it gives great insight on the best approaches to teaching youngsters. Read more

Like the previous book, "Seven Wheels of Power" we are reaquaiinted with Max and his fellow Black Belt Club members. Max is still struggling with self-confidence and low-self esteem, and through his journey he learns to listen to his positive self rather than his doubting fears.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Illustrations
The illustrations in this book are incredible. They come at you from unusual and creative angles. They are so detailed and realistic you would almost swear they were photographs. They are primarily black, brown and white, with the only splashes of color coming from the karate student's belts. It surprising the illustrator did not win the Caldecott Medal for this book. Hopefully he'll do another book soon and get the deserved recognition.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Verse and Illustrations
Karate Hour is a beautifully done book. It is done in verse, very cleverly, as the book goes through the karate class. The illustrations are breathtaking and look like photographs.. Although Karate Hour is in many respects, non fiction, it is also a work of art, where poetry and visual arts combine. Very well done. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Actually this one is more like "Michael Does Kung Fu!"
"Little Vampire Does Kung Fu!" ("Petit Vampire fait du Kung-Fu!") begins not with the Little Vampire but his young human friend, Michael, who tells his grandfather how he was picked on, de-pants, and beaten up by the kids at school.Michael's Grandpa tells him he did the right thing by not fighting, but the young boy is not sure.He was humiliated and is so angry that he wants to kill his tormentors. When Michael tells his story again at the Little Vampire's dog Phantomat has a few brutal suggestions as to what should be done to Michael's chief tormentor, Jeffrey. But Little Vampire has a different solution and takes Michael to see Rabbi Solomon, the Kung fu master, who lives in a painting in Little Vampire's house.
1-0 out of 5 stars I would not recommend it.
Ultimately, I think this book attempts to show the futility of fighting in order to resolve disagreements. But it uses rather violent images and notions to deliver this message including: revenge killing, cannibalism, religious mysticism, etc. This book could serve to desensitize young readers to the pain and suffering of others, in the same way that violent 5-0 out of 5 stars nothing quite like it!
Now here's a rare treat... A clever, zany romp in the continuing adventures of Little Vampire. It's an unpredictable, rambling adventure, brimming with inventiveness and full of heart -- and it's a comic book. Kids 6 and up will find lots to delight in, but it's aimed at the 10 and up, who will revel in the wit and exuberant artwork. I'd bet the books in the Little Vampire series become classics in no time. Definitely nothing else like these.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This book is swift and fun!
Heaven by a twist of fate escapes a house fire in this latest edition of this electric series. With a reluctant goodbye to Hiro she's off to the dazzle of Las Vegas where she seeks an old friend. In Las Vegas one can be blown wayward on their path and Heaven says Hello to an old friend-Katie and a new bubbly friend-Mr. Alcohol which she had a wild, reckless and ultimately humiliating relationship with in Book 3 The book of the Pearl (remember the jelly fish scene?). The alcohol misuse aside this is a fun, fast paced book. We see a new side of Teddy which makes him a more multi dimensional character and something very sweet and wonderful happens at the end (quess cuz I'm not going to tell!:) Read more
