1-0 out of 5 stars Fancy Cover, Bad Book
Quite Frankly, this new Holt Phyiscs book, does NOT cover all the content that is involved in the detailed study of Physics. Not only that, but it leaves out some of the most important principles that are in physics. For example, Chapter 5-2, we talk about Energy, it doesn't give the law of conservation of energy, which is one of the most important laws in physics. It also when talking about Newton's laws, doesn't use the ideas that Newton had. There are so many things missing, I could go on forever, I wish I could give this book a negative score, but I can't do so. I'm currently in Physics at my school, and I like to study Physics in my spare time. Serway is a very good author of the college books, that I have, but this one does not cut it for a full understanding of Physics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb Physics book!
This was the text book used in my honors physics class.Though it may not go into extremely advanced issues, it does touch on A LOT of material, including basic collisions, fluids, rotational motion, relativity (a bit), and even some quantum mechanics. This book is definitely useful to anyone who wants a better education in basic physics and a start into somewhat beginner's advanced physics. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The Key Differences Between Chinese and American Teaching Methods
For many years, I have heard about how Asian countries typically outperform America in tests relating to concepts in mathematics. I've often wondered why; I thought perhaps it's because testing is more rigorous in these countries or perhaps the students have more homework and are able to practice math more frequently. However, after reading this book, it appears the teaching method may make the biggest difference. Better teachers have probably had better experiences of being taught when they were students. This cycle continues on, therefore producing more competent students and perhaps fostering an interest in teaching in the future.

5-0 out of 5 stars practice is the key
I'm a firm believer of practice early on math. It will build kid's interest and confidence for the long run. This book is invaluable. It breaks grade 1 math into small pieces and let your child do a little every day. My son learned a lot from this book. He often asks further questions and thinks a lot more. This book helped him do well in math. In the Beestar online math contest (...), he often wins honor mentions. Highly recommend.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Review of 1st Grade Math Skills

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful Book
This book is very helpful because when someone helps me in Algebra 2, they can read me the problem out of book then I can work it out and they can tell me whether my answer is right or not or else it would take a much longer period of time because they would have to work out the problem and then tell me the answer and it may be wrong. This is the perfect book for kids who want to learn Algebra 2.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Way Of Sneaking In Math!
My daughter has always had a problem learning Math but reading this book (along with the others in this series) has helped her immensely! The books themselves are a bit young for her but the concepts in them (Pi, Geometry, etc) are explained in a way I think she needed.

2-0 out of 5 stars Unacceptable
This geometry book has thought provoking problems, but that is all that is good about this book. There are many typos and awkward wordings to be found, and even incorrect answers in the teachers edition (my teacher has been correcting answers in his book all year)! This book is also useless without the only conjectures and vocabulary, something that should have been included in an appendix somewhere in this book! If you want to learn geometry, this is not the book to use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
I've used an older edition of this book in a high school geometry class. While the hands-on approach may be difficult to those who would rather have the concepts told to them, it allowed me to grasp the subject firmly.By allowing students to figure out different concepts, this book truly facilitates learning.

Editorial Review

Learning and playing, playing and learning--it's all one and the samewhen you're a tot. So this big box of block books is an ideal toy and learningtool for very young children. An appealing and colorful cardboard carrying case(with flip-top construction and cheery red string handles) is packed with 26extra-sturdy little board books that teach kids about colors, numbers, shapes, and animals. Each 8-page book focuses on one concept or theme--"Orange," "Four,""Circle," "Bugs," etc.--with a word or two on each spread, along with a simpleillustration. The chunky books are just the right size for tiny hands; readerscan stack them up to build a tower--or a foundation for learning! These block books are the perfect size for small hands to grasp and enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!Great stacking & learning toy!
I bought this for my son who was 20 months old at the time.I thought it would be a great learning tool for my daughter (5) to show & 'teach' my son words as well as help her learn to read.So far it has proven to be a great toy for both of them & something that they can do together. But I was surprised that the real appeal to these books are that they are stackable. My son will spend hours stacking them & knocking them down & restacking but also he loves to bring them to me & ask me what the pictures are.I originally purchased it, thinking it was a great deal but then thinking that it would end up being one of those 'all over the house' toys...as it turns out, my son is crazy about keeping all the books together in the box so that hasn't been a big problem.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for Toddlers!
My 22 month-old son received this as a gift, and I've since given a set to two other toddlers. What a great box of books! The books are simple and straighforward, perfect for his budding vocabulary. He loves to pick them each up in turn, show me the few pages and identify each picture, and then drop the book (ker-plunk!) into the box. But the fun doesn't stop there - the books are also great for sorting into piles by color, and for using like blocks to build towers. They're sturdy and tough, able to withstand chewing, standing-upon, and bending backwards in my son's hands. Get a set! Get one now! :D ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book - No Question.
Let's just say that I've been out of school for a while now and Algebra has never been my strong suit. However, I use math all the time in my job so I thought I'd try to learn easier ways of doing things.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book saved me!!!!
I am a gifted facilitator but that doesn't mean I am an expert in every subject area! This book helped me understand the logic of Algebra for the first time in my life! It helped me understand Algebra in a way that I could explain to my students and that made sense! My students enjoyed the little stories that helped them remember the rules of Algebra! This book saved me! It was a breakthrough for me and I give it the highest rating. Anyone who is over their head in trying to teach Algebra will find it a lifesaver.

5-0 out of 5 stars Algebra tutorial
I would recommend this book to anyone having difficulty with algebra. My son had always done well in math, but had trouble understanding his Algebra I class and was failing the tests.I heard Mr. Zaccaro speak at a conference and bought this book.I used the book to tutor my son and his test grades went from 60s to 90s.He finished the year with a solid B average and is now one of the top students in Algebra II and easily maintains an A average. He is even able to help other students, because Mr. Zaccaro's book gave him such a good foundation in the subject. As a teacher, I think this book succeeds because it is not only informative, but it presents the lessons in an interesting, kid-friendly way.I think it's an excellent tool for remediation; however, I also think it would be great for any child interested in learning algebra just for fun, before it is taught in school. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Really Fun Math Adventure
Introducing Geometry has now been made more fun.Cindy Neuschwander has given upper grade teachers an exciting way to introduce a somewhat complex subject through the adventures of Radius, son of Sir Cumference and Lady Di of Ameter. This beautifully written and illustrated book has Radius out on an adventure with only a circular medallion (a protractor which is included with the book) to use to find his way through a maze of angles. Students will love the twists and turns the hero Radius encounters but solves and will be excited to learn how to use their own "circular medallion." I enjoyed this book and will be recommending it to appropriate teachers who I work with as a student teacher supervisor. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
I am a sixth grade teacher and I have found the best way to cut down on behavior issues is to provide materials for students at their developmental level. Each year I have a group of students who love math and who ask for extra homework. Why? I allow them to use the saxon 87 book. The book is easy to understand and the kids can teach themselves. I stop by this high group to check that they understand the concept and away they go. Most of the math books that I have encountered are not that way -at all!

My children have been using Saxon Math for 3 years.I love how the book uses the repetitive form to insure they do not forget the things they have learned.I also love that the book uses small steps each day so as not to overload the childs mind. Each lesson teaches one step which they master before going on to the next step. Also Saxon lists the chapter reference in parentheses under each number in the practice problem sets for each lesson so if they still don't understand they can go back and refresh their memory. If not for Saxon my children would not be doing so well in Math. ... This book is really nice to read, learn and easy to get the idea for adult and for children.

5-0 out of 5 stars She loves math now!
My 9 year old had always loved math but this year we moved and neither of us liked the math curriculum the new school used. She began hating math! We began homeschool (there were other problems too) BUT she continued fighting with the math work.I purchased this book and after only 4 lessons she's hooked on math again! She loves the tricks and VOLUNTARILY makes up her own problems to solve! She's already seeing how the "tricks" help her in her "normal" math work.

I plan on using this book to enhance my students mental math abilities.
