spotty accuracy
A quick look through this book turned up some pretty questionable material among the "facts."The most glaring is in the description of the Mass in page 6: "Christians believe that the wine represents Jesus' blood and the bread represents his body."While that's a perfectly accurate description of what many Christians believe today, it's not true of Catholics (the focus of the book) who beleive the bread and wine are far more than just a representation.The author falls into gender stereotypes on the same page, implying that rosaries were used solely by nuns.And while I can't absolutely prove it, it seems unlikely that monks' robes were "dyed black, brown, gray, or white."How would you dye something white?Isn't it far more likely that they used undyed wool in its natural colors?Much of the other information seems to be good, but without any sources given it's difficult to check. ... Great for learning and imagination
We got this for our five year old son and he asked us to read it again and again.As we approach his sixth birthday, I noticed that he had gotten in out when he woke up early and was just buried in it for about an hour.He can answer questions about castle building and historical references, and incorporates what he learns from the book when he's building sand castles and legos. ... Educational and very funny
An educational and very funny read. The facts are all true, but have been presented in a consistely funny and readable tabloid style. Maps, pictures, and fact boxes (and some very funny ads) support the text. Highly recommended.

Nice book
This book provides a nice overview of medieval times, concentrating on knights and castles.It is full of color illustrations and pictures such as cut-away drawings of castles, town markets, the castle kitchen,and fashions of noblemen.Every other page has a full-page or nearly full-page illustration of some sort.The pages are also jam-packed with text explaining the little details that make history engaging.This would be a wonderful supplement for a study of the middle ages.
