A gentle, rhyming story
Even though Cecilia is a clever little girl who can even write her name, she has a problem that just will not go away. Cecilia wets her bed. Great book series
I would recommend these books to first graders that are excelled readers.For my daughters reading level, the chapter books at school seem to encourage children to talk back to teachers or parents, mock or play tricks on others and lie.The Jewel Princess series are wonderful fantasy tales with a good moral ending.Thank you Jahnna and Malcom!

Strange and Fascinating
I picked up this book because it featured Robin McKinley's stories. She is a highly talented author.
Six short stories (3 by each author)
On the whole, I was drawn into RM's stories more quickly than PD's (my favourites are "The Sea King's Son" and "The Water Horse"), although after repeated exposure I've developed some liking for two of his three. McKinley's stories herein seem to me to have more detailed and polished world-building. None of the six, to my knowledge, have been published previously.
A Dash of Cold Water on the Face
This book struck me a blow across the mouth when I first read it, and I've grown in appreciation of it on subsequent readings. These are not pretty stories, but neither are they squalid; they are sometimes slow, sometimes difficult, sometimes piercing, all chilly and wet. These mermaids have sharp fins and keen calls, and it is an extremely refreshing shock to read both authors' contributions to the book. A romantic fairy tale (best for older children)
This story, based on a short 14th or 15th century fairy tale, is compact and sophisticated.The themes of prejudice, longing, isolation, determination and courage are woven together into a story of forbidden love between a merman and a human woman.He is transformed into a man, but must touch the sea everyday or he will die; she loves him, but must stay away because of the prejudices borne of a family tragedy.It's a well-told story that really does leave you guessing until the very last page whether the ending will be happy or tragic.

great girl's book-
This is the Little Mermaid with a twist.Story is done in rhyme and is 95% good rhyme.A few of the twists on the original are:The mermaid's father is o.k. with her going to the land, she figures out an alternative to a second bargain with the troll, and her boyfriend, surfer Burt buys wetsuits for them to go see her father.
