4-0 out of 5 stars Just plain fun
We love this book. Moose is so perfect for times when we want to enjoy a fun, interactive book with our 2-year-old. We have lots of favorite parts, but the best is when my son yells out "Boo!" He can hardly wait to get to that page. :) Its just a fun book. And for a girl from the midwest its full of lots of things that feel like home to me. I like getting to share that with my son. Not that he knows that's part of why i love it, being 2. Also a book full of opportunities to talk about and encourage sharing and helping and friendship... and housecleaning. :) haha. We highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fun story for children
Children love this series If You Give....
5-0 out of 5 stars If you ever give a moose a muffin
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you give a moose a muffin?Well if you read this story it will probably stop your wondering. After you give a moose a muffin he'll probably start to act a little strange. The moose is very believable ,you might not ever give a moose a muffin again. The moose is a very good character because he does things that a human might do if you give them a muffin. It's a great book and it even appeals to first graders .I will recommend this book to other students because it has alot of funny characters and the best thing is that they're all animals. Also it would open up their imagination.Laura Numoroff is a very great auther and I love her book,If You Give A Moose A Muffin. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Where, or where, is the big hungry bear?
This adorable book has been a favorite of my son (now 14 months) for about 3 months now. I also enjoy the clever book, with its beautiful illustrations, and cute story about a mouse who is convinced to share a luscious strawberry...even though the big, hungry bear never appears! Bound to be a favorite in your household. My son just loves turning the pages.

5-0 out of 5 stars So far , LOVE all Wood/Wood books!
This is a short but very clever story! On the back of my hardcover copy it states..."The little mouse will do anything to save his strawberry from the big, hungry bear. The bear holds all the cards, but who is playing the fox's role?"There isn't any mention of a fox in this story, but you as the reader talk this little mouse into sharing his strawberry with you, so that the big hungry bear doesn't get it!That makes us the fox, and my child thinks THAT is really funny! Also funny is the mouse trying to hide the strawberry in dirt with a mouse sized shovel, namely a spoon! He guards the strawberry with chains and tacks. He disguises it with glasses, a large nose and a mustache and then sits it down to join him for tea! However you being the clever fox you are, talk him into cutting it in half and sharing it with you.He happily eats his half by candlelight using the top of the strawberry as a garnish! The details in the illustrations are beautiful as Don Wood strikes another home run.I love that Audrey Wood keeps the story simple, so that I am not droning on and on. My 20 month old does better with shorter reads!

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic
I remeber this book from when I was a child. I just rediscovered it here on Amazon and boy did the memories come flooding back of my mother reading it too me over and over again each night before I went to bed.

5-0 out of 5 stars a wonderful gift for any age "kid"
This is a perfectly wonderful concept with super illustrations just waiting for a touch from the reader. It is impossible to read this book without laughing. Underlying lessons are as easy to take as a spoonful of sugar making the medicine go down!

5-0 out of 5 stars How adorable was this book!!!!
The little cuties make outfits with the fuzz from the ball. That in itself is a reason to buy the book.Cook-a-doodle-doo is still my favourite but this one is a close second!

5-0 out of 5 stars My second and third grade students loved this book!
Picture books must be truly intelligent, creative and entertaining to amuse my second and third grade class. This one was the biggest winner of the year with my students! They laughed UPROARIOUSLY at every detailed picture and continued to talk about it well after the story was over. It's great for Read Aloud because it gives parents/teachers the opportunity to "ham up" the voices of the prairie dogs. The content is appropriate for younger students, but the humor keeps elementary school kids riveted! Fun for adults, too! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Doctor De Soto is a well-respected mouse-dentist who runs a successful practice with his wife (and able assistant) Mrs. De Soto. The De Sotos are friendly and professional toward all their patients, from chipmunks to donkeys to cows, the exception being "cats and other dangerous animals," as stated clearly on the sign outside the office. But the De Sotos are tender-hearted rodents, so when a miserable fox shows up begging for treatment, they agree to have a look (perhaps against their better judgment). As it turns out, this fox, with "a rotten bicuspid and unusually bad breath," manages to behave himself while tiny Doctor De Soto is standing mid-molar inside his gaping jaws. When the wily fox returns the next day to get his replacement gold tooth, however, he has mouse-flavored snacks on his mind. Luckily, Doctor De Soto and his wife have anticipated such despicable canine intentions, and find a way to outfox the ungrateful fox. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Doctor DeSoto book
You can call me StoryMaker. "Doctor DeSoto" is not my favorite book, and I especially don't like the end. I like how they are animal people, but are the size they are supposed to be. What I mean is, they are animals that talk, walk on 2 legs, and live in their own house, but unlike most people animals, they are the size they are in real life. It would probably be a book a young child would adore (probably most children ages 3-5) but I don't fall into the "Dr. DeSoto lovers" category or the "children ages 3-5" category. This book is where a mouse named Dr. DeSoto (a dentist) finds out a fox is seeking dental care. Dr. DeSoto never let an animal that might eat him come in before (that's where them being the size they are in real life is important), but the fox really wants that dental care so Dr. DeSoto's wife lets him in. The part I hate the most is the end when Dr. DeSoto gives the fox his so-called special treatment so he won't eat them. That so-called special treatment causes the fox to not be able to eat anything, even if it isn't a DeSoto family member at all. He could DIE if it dosen't ware off! I actually don't have a lot of complaints, but this book is not very exciting. Overall, perhaps you may like it, but if you like foxes, this book will not please you. Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny, critical thinking perspective
Consider things from the point of view of the dentist and his patient . . . you'll be laughing out loud while reading this to your kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars An entertaining story
Dr. Desoto is a humorous well illustrated story of a mouse dentist and how he solved a problem in an unexpected way. I have read this book to several children 5-8 yr. age range and they all loved it and wanted to borrow it. Parents will appreciate Dr, Desoto's desire to maintain his professional integrity. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Another Adventure
This is a book about a tiny deer mouse, named Poppy, who ruins everything for her family (or at least they think so.) When her boyfriend and her go onto a great horned owl's property without permission, the owl eats her boyfriend and Poppy manages to escape. Then her family decides to move because they have grown too big, but where they would like to move is past the great horned owl's property. When the mice go to ask permission from the owl, so that they can cross his property, he denies it because Poppy and her boyfriend didn't ask permssion the night before. Is that the truth, or is he hiding something that the mice shouldn't know about, Poppy wonders. So Poppy sets out on another adventure to figure out what the owl is hiding from them, and discovers some secrets about the owl.

2-0 out of 5 stars Did not engage my 10-year-old
This was required reading for my son going into fifth grade. He is not a strong reader, and neither he nor I enjoyed it.The combination of a large amount of flowery language and very little action made it a struggle to get through. What little humor there was, was too sophisticated. It was hard for us to identify with this foppish married mouse who ate caviar and champagne. While I can appreciate that many (I guess most!) find it literary and delicious, my son found it boring, and looking at it through his eyes, I have to agree.

1-0 out of 5 stars ... A waste of time
I was forced to read Abel's Island for a school assingment. It was about this mouse on and island. Very boring.... It was miserable to have to read this, so do not waste your time reading it!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The greatest fiction book I've read!
Abel's Island is about a mouse named Abel.He encounters a hurricane that separates him from his wife. After the storm, he ends up on an island where he cannot escape because of the current surrounding the island. He tries many ways to return to the place he loves, but all fail.About a year after countless attempts to leave the island, a frog appears by accident. Gover, the frog, becomes friends with Abel and says he will come back with people to help Abel.Abel's plans to return were very interesting. His methods were very creative so it held my attention. My favorite part was when he was fighting the owl.I found a similarity between Abel and Stuart Little. Both had to navigate water. Stuart little was successful, but was Abel?Read the book to find out. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A sweet book
My 6 year old liked this book quite a bit. And so did my 8 year old. 4-0 out of 5 stars Which Ending Would You Choose?
Beautifully illustrated and thought evoking story which allows young readers (and their parents/teachers/siblings) to see what an impact different choices make in lives both factual and fictional.5-0 out of 5 stars Helping kids to Write/ the concept of ending a story
This book so clearly shows students/children the effect the ending has on a story. It's great if you're teaching students or your own child how to write stories. Just reading it gives them perspective and, with each of their stories, they can write two different endings and choose the better one. This book is FANTASTIC! Get it! ... Read more

My daughter can't get enough of this book. She could sit in front of it all day long, opening all the flaps and staring at all the details in the pictures. She is on a real Maisy kick, so I knew she would love it, but I had no idea how much.Three months after I first got it for her (she is 21 months now), I still know that it will hold her attention when I pull it out. That's a valuable tool for the mother of an active toddler!

2-0 out of 5 stars At first good, but then.....
At first the book is good. After that the book gets a little dumb.I mean c'mon at frist she deosn't like him but when their cousin talks sqwot about him she tries to defend him and make her say ''Julluis is the baby of the world''.Witch was really dumb and odd. Also it uses unkind words like ''hate''.Get Chester's Way instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars NO more Julius!!!
"Julius is the baby of the world." Everyone loved the new baby in the house except for Lilly. It is hard when a new person takes away the attention that you are used to having. This is how Lilly felt towards her new brother. Throughout the book, Lilly tortures her brother by trying to get rid of him and calling him names. Her parents explain to her that he is going to be around forever and Lilly is unhappy. Lilly is determined to be the queen of the house and not get to know Julius. Not until a party that Lilly's parents through for Julius does Lilly have a change of heart. When her cousin Garland decideds that Julius is not great, Lilly stands up for her baby brother. This story has a happy ending and an experience that many of us have gone through. Once again, Kevin Henkes gives us another mouse book filled with emotion and color in every character and every page.

5-0 out of 5 stars good and clever short stories
sometimes the best childrens stories are the ones that dont always have to teach something; although stories with lessons are a wonderful way to teach, the little stories in "mouse tales" are just there; to be read, and to be heard by the child and enjoyed without some lesson attached.they are whimsical and cute.my 2 1/2 yr old daughter loves lobel books and enjoyed having a big kid lobel book to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Addictive!
Arnold Lobel is a master story teller! He really knows how to capture a child's attention and tickle his imagination and funny bone. All of the stories in this book are great and should be classics if they are not already. My son (5 years) started this book and could not put it down! He read 5 of the 7 chapters at once and only reluctantly stopped because I told him it was time for bed. He continued with the rest of the 2 chapters in the morning. Any book that can do that gets and deserves 5 stars!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Memories
I bought this because it was read to me as a small child. I plan to read it to my children one day.

If you've been in middle-management, chances are you've either had this book pressed on you or seen it lying on someone else's desk but only in the "adult" form (I use the term loosely, "Who Moved My Cheese?" is on about a 7th grade reading level). As it turns out everything that was in the blockbuster WMMC is here in this version for kids, to the extent that middle-managers should have THIS version of the book vs. the adult copy-- it would've saved everyone a lot of time.
5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect story Post Katrina
My children have had to deal with tremendous unexpected changes in our lives as our home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. One day we were in a home and my four year olds were just getting settled into school. The next day we were living 500 miles away from home, their home was destroyed, and they were placed in new schools. This story was perfect in explaining to them that change happens to everyone.Sometimes these changes are very unexpected. If we are willing to embrace change we can make this change an opportunity rather than a tragedy.Wonderful principles to teach to kids.My wife and I learned from it also. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Cat and Mouse in the Haunted House
Boo! Hi,I'm the ghost of Casey Gray.I just read a book called Geronimo Stiltion, Cat and Mouse in the Haunted House. It's a furr-azing book. If you like this book, there are over 20 others!!! I give it two thumbs up.In the back of the book, there is a map of were Geronimo works, what city he lives in, and what island he lives on. Oh No!!! The books are runing away!!! Come on, they're fast.
5-0 out of 5 stars The mouse is just so loveable!!!
It's smart, it's humourous and it's clumpsy most of the time!
5-0 out of 5 stars A Scary Adventure for Geronimo!
This book is awesome! Geronimo gets lost in the forest and has to spend the night in a haunted house! Geronimo gets really excited when he finds a library full of books, but he gets scared away by a ghost. The scariest part was when the ghost of Duke Slicepaw came out! Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Peace and Thanks to Frederick the Mouse
I read this while biking at the gym last night, and happy as I was to find a children's book of this magnitude at a gym, I am happier having read it no matter.
5-0 out of 5 stars the importance of beauty
This was my favorite book as a child, and I still keep a copy on my bookshelf. It is my earliest memory of any kind of poetry, and still sticks with me. Frederick taught me that it is important to see the beauty all around you and to soak it up and process it into some kind of art. Of course I didn't put it into those words when I was young but I had an idea of what it meant and it made me want to write and paint.
1-0 out of 5 stars Stage one of future Disappointment
I read this book prior to bringing it home to my son to ensure it espoused the values I would want him carry forward in life.To suggest to a young child that Blue Sky and Sunshine will carry you through challenged times is simply setting them up for disappointment. While the rest of the family was showing strong character and work ethic Frederick was a lazy day dreamer that made no contribution. If he had worked along side his family in preparation for winter they would have had more fuel for their bodies and straw to keep them warm.Essentially he became a burden on his family and could only share mystic thoughts of yesteryear while his siblings and parents starved themselves during the dead of winter. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Series!!
If you are looking for a new book series, this should be it! There are 24 books out so far, and I have read them all. They are funny, clever, and have lots of funny mouse jokes. They are perfect for ages 7 and up, and come out bi-monthly. They are the best series of books ever. They originally came from Italy, if you're wondering. They are great, so read them ALL!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, humours and pleasant to the eyes
There's one fine line between well-played and over-played layouts. The full Geronimo Stilton series falls into the well-played category: the outcome is pleasant and not too loud and the fonts / colour used are really a statement on their own.
5-0 out of 5 stars On the Trip to Find the Lost Treasure
It all started when Thea found an old map with an x for the spot where the treasure was. She dragged her brother Trap and her cousin Benjamin on to the trip. They took a boat there and a few days later a hurricane struck. Find out what happened to Benjamin, Thea, and Trap.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great series
Great series for young and old looking for a mental shut-down for bed book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the best Rewall novel, but still a solid read with compelling characters and exciting climax. Recomended
The fifth Redwall novel, Salamandastron is the story of a badger maid, a blue-eyed ferret, and a plague at Redwall. Mara is a young badger maid who escapes her home, Salamandastron, and her overbearing adoptive father. As Mara begins her quest throughout Mossflower country, meeting up with Guosssom shrews and members from Redwall, Salamandastron falls under attack by a disarming, ruthless blue-eyed ferret. Meanwhile, a young squirrel named Samkim leaves Redwall in pursuit of the sword of Martin the Warrior. Giving us our first clear look at Salamandastron and the Long Patrol, Salamandastron expands the world of the Redwall novels yet again. The adventures and battles manage to be both realistic and exciting, and the strong-willed characters are compelling and show a lot of growth within the course of the book. While not particularly outstanding, this is one of the better and perhaps more famous Redwall novels and I recommend it and enjoy rereading it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome Book, But Just A Little Behind Some Of The Others
I've read the whole series at least once, and I think some of the other books in the series, such as, Mattimeo, Pearls Of Lutra, The Taggurang and Mossflower are a little bit better. This one is just a bit to sad for my tastes. I hate it how Urthstripe dies before Mara can say that she loved him. Still, a very good book. ... Read more

This is a completely adorable, inspired and inspiring creation by Mr. Lobel. This book with audio was a mainstay of my children's early years and holds memories we will always cherish.

4-0 out of 5 stars "Mouse Mess" is good, but kind of for youngsters
You can call me StoryMaker. "Mouse Mess" is a great book with nice rhymes and great pictures. I especially like the mouse's house. It also makes me hungry, with all of the delightful food. However, I enjoyed this book a lot more when I was a lot younger. The plot of the story and style of the mouse is better for youngsters. I still love the rhymes, size of text, and pictures. Overall, Mouse Mess is a nice book and especially if you have a young child/sibling. Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Toddlers
I am a toddler teacher and every year I share this book with my children. We usually enjoy it at lunch, before we clean ourselves up for rest time. :) We start in August and by January...they are reading along with me!

5-0 out of 5 stars Colorful and bold
I especially enjoyed the way this book portrays food with a childlike point of view. A real toddler-pleaser since it combines making a mess and food. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Christological Fable
On the surface, this is a simple and sweet tale of three frogs who learn how to share. But as a student of theology and of literature, I must share my insights into this amazing children's book.On a deeper level, this is a Christological parable and a history of salvation through Jesus Christ.Although I admittedly know nothing about Leo Lionni's personal beliefs,I am sure that this is the intended meaning in this fable. The richness and beauty of its symbolism could hardly be an accident!
