Editorial Review

Who knew school could be this much fun? Maisy paints pictures, writes stories, dances like a ballerina, and even adds and subtracts in this interactive book about the cheery little mouse. Pull a tab to make the pencil in Maisy's paw scribble back and forth in her notebook. Lift the lid of a red chest to find costumes for dress-up. And pull another tab to see the fish in the aquarium dart from behind the plant when Maisy tosses food their way. Fans of the lovable white mouse will adore this story from Lucy Cousins, especiallypre-preschoolers who are wondering just what goes on in this mysterious school they've been hearing about. Large print, crayon-bright colors, and thickly outlined pictures make Maisy stories a favorite for the youngest readers (or almost-readers). Catch Maisy and her friends on TV (Nick Jr.), as well as in her many other endearing books, including Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Memorable but less desirable pull-tabs
My son enjoys all the Maisy books.Maisy Goes to School is no exception. When he talks about school and you ask him a question he correlates to Maisy. This to me is a great children's book when a child remembers. However, the "Lift-The-Flap & Pull-The-Tap" was found it to be less desirable. We have had no difficulty in the construction of other "pull-tab" Maisy books (ie "Seasons") but all the "pull tabs" in "Maisy Goes to School" do not withstand a child pulling, mostly the one for the pencil.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for toddler/preschool age!
The "peek-a-boo" flaps, pull tabs, action and simple language in this book made it a big hit with our two children -- (one toddler and one preschool age)! The darling mouse, Maisy, does lots of activities at school, such as paints pictures, writes a story, dances like a ballerina, and even adds and subtracts! Like other lift the flap/pull the tab books, your child can interact with this book.My preschool age daughter has evenlearned to add and subtract from this book and very much enjoys"reading" the book to me!The Maisy books are a huge success inour home...we're ordering four more to add to our growing collection! ... Editorial Review

It's impossible not to like Hermux Tantamoq, the watchmaking mouse. Herelaxes in a flannel shirt printed with pictures of cheeses from around theworld, he has a caged pet ladybug named Terfle, he writes endearing thank-youletters to the universe each night, and he has a big heart--a heart that achesfor the fearless aviatrix Ms. Linka Perflinger, who unexpectedly visits his shoprequesting an emergency rush repair of her wristwatch. Little does he know thatthis brief rendezvous with the jaunty adventuress will change his life forever. When a week goes by without word from her, he doesn't know whether to be worriedor angry. He drafts a slightly unpleasant, then desperate, then not-too-sweet,not-too-sour letter to her and awaits her response. Nothing. Even nastyencounters with his neighbor (the horribly garish and affected cosmetics tycoonTucka Mertslin) and pleasant interludes with his artist friend Mirrin don'tdistract him from his new heart-quickening obsession.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Time Stops for No Mouse by Patricia
From what I have read from this book, I think that it is interesting because it is telling a part of a mouse's life. I enjoy fiction books and sometimes when I read a part of a fiction book, I want to read more to know what will happen. In this story you can see different types of attitudes or ways of being. This might help people because when they grow they ask themselves why are people this way or that way and sometimes end up following the wrong way to act.
5-0 out of 5 stars A book with twists, turns and surprises- a readers paradise!
Hermux Tanatamoq is the average watch-maker mouse in Pinchester, he leads a boring and dulls life. That was until, the beautiful, worried adventurous, Linka appeared in his life! She wants his to fix her watch, that was wrecked in a storm, but when she never returns to pick her watch up, Hermux beings to worry...
5-0 out of 5 stars A really refreshing, origional story
This book (as well as the other books in the series) are highly origional. I would totally recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Adventure
I just read this book to my 5 1/2 year old son and he loved it.The prose was challenging for him, but he managed to understand it surprisingly well. Some of the reviewers recommend this for older children, presumably because it is somewhat of a challenging read, but the content is certainly appropriate for younger children. It was a great read-aloud and I enthusiastically recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Elementary through middle school readers will delight
Advanced elementary through middle school readers will delight in this story of a mouse who is anything but common. Christopher is born in a cage, has encounters in a museum Egyptian room with a dangerous cat, and proves an adventurer and poet alike in this tale of a mouse who must find his way in an exciting world.

Editorial Review

After years of dreaming of planting a garden, Mr. McGreely finally takeshoe and watering can in hand and makes his dream come true. Unfortunately forhim (but luckily for readers), this is not the happily-ever-after part of thestory. Late one night, three hungry bunnies appear: "Tippy-tippy-tippy, Pat!Muncha! Muncha! Muncha!" The next morning finds our farmer gnashing his teethover the gnawed sprouts. So he builds a small wire fence. That night... "Muncha!Muncha! Muncha!" So Mr. McGreely builds a tall wooden wall. You get the idea.Young readers will hang on every word until they find out, once and for all, whowill win the battle of the broccoli.Read more

My 3 year old son loves this book. The story is easy to follow and has that repetitive style that small children love. The battle between the sneeky bunnies and Mr McGreely is great, and builds to a very amusing ending.I have read this story every night now for the past 3 months and I am sure that I will be reading it for at least another 3 - Muncha, Muncha, Muncha!

Unless... there's also alittle yellow marshmallow chick the same color as our hero's fuzzy blanket.Decked out in his purple plaid Easter finery, this boy mouse spends a giddy dayplaying with his sugary new pal. 4-0 out of 5 stars Cute easter book but short
this is a sweet little board book for little ones. I swear it was written in 5 minutes, i wish i would have done it first!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for teacher to use with a follow-up activity
Anyone who grew up finding marshmallow chicks in their Easter basket can relate to this story. When i was a kid they were yellow. Now these chicks come in all colors. I am a kindergarten teacher. My students loved this book. Now, one child takes it home with an Owen plush and a plastic egg with a marshmallow chick inside. They don't know what color their chick is until they get home. I provide a journal for them to document the color, write a story about their visit with Owen and draw a picture. They LOVE it!

5-0 out of 5 stars A sugary sweet tale
This story is a perfect read for Easter or any time of the year! While my child loves to bite the head off of his marshmallow chicks, he could understand Owen's attachment to the treat.Owen projects his emotional attachment of his favorite blanket onto the marshmallow chick (that is the same color as his blanket)and doesn't gobble it up like his other holiday treats. This ending is absolutely priceless and we read this story at least once a week.Since there is no focus on spirituality or religion in this board book, it would be appropriate in a home of any faith (especially with those who are fans of marshmallow chicks!).Highly recommended! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
Angelina loved her bicycle and rode it everywhere. Her best friend was Alice. This year for her birthday they were going to have a picnic.Angelina and Alice went to the village to buy some decorations for her party. On the way back they raced, and Angelina hit a rock and crashed. She hurt her leg and ruined her favorite bike.Angelina and Alice started doing odd jobs to earn money so Angelina could buy a new bike. They mowed grass, picked apples, hung laundry, watered the garden, planted raspberries and strawberries, and washed floors.Angelina still didnt have enough money to buy a bike.On their walk back from the village to buy more balloons, Angelina saw the best bike ever in the window of the bicycle shop and she wished she had enough money to buy it.The day of her party came and Angelina received hair ribbons, books, a ballerina, and a silver horn for her new bike.Everyone had pitched in to buy Angelina the bike she had wanted. She was so surprised and decided to take everyone on a bicycle ride through the hills.I think this was a good book because Angelina worked to buy herself a new bike, and in the end everyone realized how hard she had worked so they decided to get her it for her birthday.~ Katelyn Carson

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
In this next book in the Angelina Ballerina series, Angelina prepares for her birthday. However, getting into a bike race with her Alice, Angelina hits a rock and damages her bike beyond repair. When her mother suggests that she can work to raise the money for a new bike, Angelina throws herself wholeheartedly into her work, and birthday are such wonderful times...4-0 out of 5 stars Reprint of older, out-of-print book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Candy Corn Caper!
Once again Kevin Henkes has written a book to tickle a toddler's funny bone! Any child can surely relate to the temptation of a tasty treat that can be looked at but not touched, and Julius' solution is surprising yet clever.Yes he was a bit naughty, but he really DIDN'T disobey his mum and no harm was done. Any parent who has had a sweet yet mischievous child will appreciate this book and little ones will love the story and pictures.Who can resist cupcakes and a party?

5-0 out of 5 stars The Native American legend of how Bear gave Chipmunk his stripes
There is an entire sub-genre of myth and folklore consisting of stories that explain the distinctive qualities of animals."How Chipmunk Got His Stripes" is a Native American story told along the East Coast, and in the Author's Notes for this volume we learn that while there are Cherokee, Abenaki and Mohawk versions, the earliest written one to be found is of Iroquois origin. What the father and son team of Joseph Bruchac and James Bruchac provide here is a longer and more detailed than what might be found elsewhere, the story having grown in the telling over the years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Story, Great Illustrations
My aunt in Australia sent this book for my daughter's 1st Christmas and it has become one of my favorites to read. Since my daughter is only 5 months old, I try to find books with nice simple sentences (not too wordy) and captivating pictures. This book is beautifully illustrated with unusual animals and tells a sweet story. My daughter enjoys it, and from my perspective, it's much more interesting than a lot of baby books--important since I read it over and over again.

How could I have missed HUNWICK until now? He is a rabbit-eared Bandicoot, one of an endangered species, familiarly known in Australia as the BILBY. *Aussie* reviewer "LIN" won me over by suggesting that "Hunwick's Egg" would be a great Easter gift. Hunwick and his mysterious egg become very special friends but the egg does not hatch.

A wonderful story of devotion! Mem Fox continues to be one of my favorite children's story tellers. Hunwick is a sweet little creature who remains loyal in spite of others' misgivings. This was a great book read for my 9 year old son, he said it was super funny, filled with adventure, sarcasm and jokes.Gernonimo seems to get himself into all kinds of real life scenarios with drama and weighted judgement calls that always seem to offer less then desirable consequences. He's constantly questioning himself and learning along the way of the fabric he's made of.I love this series and have collected almost every book. This is definitely one to own.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hey you . . . stupid looking kid . . .
Maurice is a great character, exactly what a talking cat would be like. The story is an interesting spin on the story of the piper who plays the rats out of town that is set in Discworld. The story has the wit and humor that all of Terry Pratchett's books have.A really enjoyable read for kid and adult fans of Terry Pratchett. It also has a good moral about working together to solve problems, but really you could ignore that if you wanted . . .

5-0 out of 5 stars Discworld
I've decided he's too good and too prolific for me to write a brand new review every single time I read one of his books. Discworld currently has 34 titles and every one of them will probably knock your socks off. His mind bubbles and flashes like a boiling pot of electric eels, and I simply can't get enough of his writing.
5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite Pratchett novel
I travel for a living, and Terry Pratchett's discworld books are always a good standby because a) they are easy to read, b) enjoyable, and c) available in most airport bookstores.

5-0 out of 5 stars Adorable book!
This charming picture book manages to impart the basics of guinea pig care combined with an engaging storyline and absolutely perfect illustrations. Follow along with class and teacher as they try to figure out why their pet is in distress. Their attempts to aid him provide the little pig with the attention he craves. Readers will fall in love with Sammy and his wonderfully expressive face. An excellent book for youngsters considering acquiring a guinea pig.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet little book...
Sadly, a classroom is not the ideal environment for such loving little pets as guinea pigs. They get lonely easily and two days alone is too long...but...
5-0 out of 5 stars cute
Sammy is a classroom guinea pig.He is usually very happy. He has all he could ever ask for.He has food and water, clean cage, and good friends who care for him.One day the children notice that Sammy seems sad.He makes a fuss while the teacher is trying to teach. The kids try and figure out what is wrong. They make sure that he is healthy. Then soon discover that Sammy is just lonley and wants some attention.

5-0 out of 5 stars Grandmother's review
This book has been a hit with each of my seven grandchildren. My youngest, now 3 and not crazy about books, just spent over an hour today getting the squirrel from the front to back of the book over and over.
5-0 out of 5 stars An absolute favorite in our house!
My 2 1/2 year old son absolutely LOVES this book! For the past three months he has wanted to read this book EVERY NIGHT at bed time.He loves moving the squirrel in and out through the slots and is becoming very familiar with the characters and sequence of the plot now that we have read it so much.I can't wait to get some of the other books like this one for him, and for all of my friends who have toddlers, and just know it will become a favorite in their house, too.I'm a school librarian and know this book is developing his joy of reading. While the plot of the book is weak, he certainly overlooks that and can't wait to read it again and again every night. This is a MUST HAVE for anyone with a toddler at home.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly motivating book for 3 year old w/ speech/motor delay
My son LOVES this book(and also the mouse about the house version). These books are GREAT for fine motor/motor planning...AND great for high affect speech and language therapy. "Oh, oh dear...what happened to his nuts?" "where could they be?" "who do you think hid them?" "what will happen next?" ...Highly recommended book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hop! Plop!
I am a child and family therapist as well as a mother of 3 year old twins and a 5 year old.I am a Mom first so when I first read this book I was so impressed with the concepts being taught behind the story of two friends whom appear to be from opposite worlds. As a professional who works with small children I can see myself using this book within play therapy to help teach problem solving, tolerance of personal and physical differences, how to make those differences be a positive not a negative and the benefits of compromise within relationships whether it be friends (as it was in the book) or family. It has wonderful lessons carefully woven throughout the delightful text and captivating illustrations.A must have for any pre-schooler.It is a daily request in our household.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fresh approach...
What a fresh and warm approach to teaching kids about challenges, creative solutions and friendships. I have given this book to 3 of my nieces and friend's kids and they have all told me their kids love it. I look forward to their next book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hop!Plop!
What a fun book!Kids will learn about problem solving and working together (without even knowing it).The onomatopoeias (if that's how you spell and pluralize it) and the pictures make the book amusing and enjoyable. After reading it, my 4 years old and 2 year old (and I) were sliding down our own elephant trunks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Precioso y divertido / Cute and fun
This book (in English) was one of the favorites of my best friend's little girl for years, and the simple premise of "be careful what you get yourself into" amuses even my grown friends. The story of the mouse who wants a cookie (which requires a glass of milk, which calls for ...) and can't stop there, is a familiar plot presented in a fresh way with fun illustrations. The Spanish translation has a very natural feel. I was delighted to find this translation, as I had told my boyfriend (now my husband) about it on an early date, and ever after he persisted in asking, "How did that story go? The one about the little mouse?" whenever I tried to get him to stop being fresh. :)A delightful book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good companion for any Redwall fan!
My kids love Redwall. If your's do to, this is a good companion. The poster is pretty neat. I also recommend books by Robert Stanek, Kingdoms and the Elves, the Elf Queen and the King. A Series of Unfortunate Events Books. Other books by Robert Stanek.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool poster
this book is great.Thepacket isn't much, but the poster is awesome. It includes the most important charachters (good and bad guys). It has beautiful artwork and shows the sword of Martin, which I was curious about. It's GRRRRRREAT!!!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and misleading
We bought this for our library collection... and there is nothing in the description to show that this is a flimsy paperback "guide" (glued to a piece of cardboard that cannot be circulated) to the Redwall characters and a large poster. The poster is pretty, but this is not at all what we thought we were getting. I would give this less than one star if it were possible ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, straight and good story for young child
I got this book, in fact, a gift set when my first-born was 11 months old. She is a year now and my husband reads this to her every evening before her bed time in both language - English and Mandarin, while she is holding the Maisy in her hands.
1-0 out of 5 stars bad book!!!
This is not a good book because maisy swears all the time. I do not recommend this to others. There is even a mention of peeing and two of the charecters are gay. do not buy this book for young kids. Take my advice!

5-0 out of 5 stars We love Maisy
My almost-three-year-old has loved Maisy since she was an infant. This book is great because it goes through the steps
