4-0 out of 5 stars A two year old's favorite
I am a two and a half year old boy.I go to a parent-toddler class with my mommy, and my teacher read this story to the class. The pictures captured my interest immediately. The storyline is compelling. But the most fun part is the new vocabulary I've learned from it.I adore this book and I read it several times a day at home (I memorized the text after my teacher and my parents read it dozens of times for me).I'll never look at a squirrel the same way again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Nuts for Everyone!
This book is great. It tells the story of a boy who has a squirrel come into his room through a hole in a window screen. The story isn't too wordy, and you can get extra info on plants and animals throughout the story in smaller print. The book is funny also, which parents and children should enjoy.Wonderful illustrations.

4-0 out of 5 stars My four year-old picked this book out and loves it!
And, so did our puppy (she devoured it) that's why we are buying another. It's well worth the money, and Amazon.com has the best price around.Thisa a great book for little kids who love animals. The pictures are colorfuland the text is simple and catchy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "awesome"
If it was up to me, every single person in the world would have a copy of this book. G-d knows everyone needs it. Sometimes you have to escape everyday life where your on the brink of being fired from your job and your kids (or if you're a kid, parents) are nagging you to do this or that and experiance the trust of the boxtrolls, kindness of Willbury and "Ratbridge Nautical laundry",and the absoulute senslesness of the "fashonable" ladies,Hexagonal buttocks anyone? Add a notorious plot, a few shady characters, and the mysterious "great one", and you've got a book guaranteed to satisfy all ages, kids and adults alike. All in all, this book is not one that you'll ever put down before the very last page.Hey, I didn't

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful family treat!
I read this book aloud to my children who are six and eight, they were entranced! As we got closer to the end we added extra reading times to move us along. It was a delight to read out loud as opposed to some of the other books my children have chosen. We can't wait for the next volume!

5-0 out of 5 stars Truth in Advertising
I bought this book for my 9-year-old son based on the comment that is printed on the back of the book's cover. The comment reads: "My son is eleven and has never read a real book in his life.A friend gave me the book and my son just sat down and read it over the weekend.A miracle!"I thought, yeah right, her son probably doesn't have video game controllers glued to his hands like my son.My son thinks that consulting his favorite web sites online constitutes a good reading experience.Anyway, I decided to get the book and see if it would capture his attention, but frankly didn't hold out much hope.He has never wanted to read independently.Well, I am here to say that there is something unique about this book because it truly is the first one that has sucked him into its world. For the first time, he is willingly doing his reading time for class and even going beyond this.He is a little more than half-way done with the book and is enthralled with it.I'm already getting worried about what we'll do when he finishes it.Can the author quickly get the next volume out?Until the next volume comes out, I'm afraid we're doomed to slide back into mediocre reading that involves a cursory look at the latest gaming magazine.Go ahead and try this book if you have a recalcitrant reader. I hope you have the same success that we have had and that it is enjoyed as much as it has been by my son. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Maisy the marvelous mouse is ready to take the plunge--but she needs the assistance of young readers to get properly prepped for the pool. Dressed for the arctic tundra, this rodent has a lot of disrobing to do. By lifting flaps and pulling tabs, kids can help Maisy peel down to her skivvies. After removing her blue hat and scarf, brown boots, red coat, gray sweater, green trousers, purple T-shirt, yellow socks, and orange undies, Maisy is finally ready to don her rainbow-striped swimsuit and leap into the water (hopefully mice can swim). Youngsters will delight in Lucy Cousins's charming illustrations, as well as the tugging, lifting, and sliding involved in this interactive book. The many colors and clothes provide an excellent learning opportunity, but kids will appreciate Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Maisy the Swimmer is Great
Maisy captures a child's attention.Maisy is going swimming. Most preschool children love to play in water. This book teaches children their colors and the names of articles of clothes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bobbing along
Good old Maisy. Her adventures tend to be as large or small as the daily activites that children themselves partake in.Appearing in cleverly constructed (and mighty strong) books, Maisy is cheery without ever becoming pendatic. She's light-hearted but never tiring.Maisy is, in fact, the perfect companion for any child beginning to read. She is also a great help to those parents that want their kids to see reading as a fun activity.4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun to read
This book has a very simple concept - taking off all of Maisy's many layers of clothing and then putting on her bathing suit so that she can go swimming. My 2 year old son loves it to pieces - literally.Unfortunately it's not very robust, but even now with half the pages in tatters it's still one of his favorites. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Rewrite
This is a nice story but 'Frederick' covered this theme in such a lovely way so many years ago.I was surprised by "Three Pebbles" similarity to Frederick given that it has been nominated for a California Young Reader Medal this year.

4-0 out of 5 stars the mice have it
Apparently the people who published this book never read Frederick by Leo Lionni, since it makes the exact same point (and even also uses mice as the characters, which makes one wonder, what is it about mice?Surely other animals prepare industriously for winter?).This book has wonderful illustrations and the text flows along very nicely until we get to the indoor scenes at the end. There, I think the dialogue and paintings both go downhill and the point is somewhat forced. If you are looking to buy, get Frederick instead. It has more staying power (about the importance of art in enriching life). This isn't a substitute.

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully illustrated, but a bad lesson for kids.
My wife enjoys this book, but it seriously bothers me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great New Discovery
I just bought this book for my son's 8th birthday. He's a fairly average reader so we're going through it together, and we both just love the story and characters, who are of varying ages and personalities. The book captures your attention right off with the common problem of being taken in by a TV commercial.

5-0 out of 5 stars Norman the Doorman
As a children's librarian, I highly recommend this classic tale of kindness by Don Freeman. I purchased this book to send to a very kind and polite student at Brown University! Our world needs to be reminded that random acts of kindness and politeness, like holding a door make life more enjoyable for all. Hooray for all of the door holders throughout the world!

5-0 out of 5 stars By the Author of Corduroy!
Norman the door-mouse welcomes discriminating rodents to view the paintings and sculptures stored in the basement of the Majestic museum. In his spare time, Norman has his own studio in a knight's helmet, which is also a good hiding place from the security guard! He cleverly uses an old mousetrap to create his own wire sculpture of a mouse swinging on a mousetrap, and enters it into a museum competition. There's a lot of visual humor, and Freeman makes the whole tuxedo-ed affair look fun and interesting, and there's a suspenseful subplot involving the guard trying to find Norman.(No animals were injured in the writing of the book.) There's a nice warm simplicity to Freeman's soft but colorful pastel illustrations; they're drawn with such ease that both they and the story may stimulate your own creative energy.Another excellent book from Freeman!

5-0 out of 5 stars Elegant Soft Pastels Highlight Warm, Artistic Mouse Humor!
This book is a visual and literary play on the ever-inspiring animal name of dormouse. These are a kind of rodent that in some ways resemble a squirrel.Every humor writer who has ever seen that name has wanted to have fun with it.The wonderful Don Freeman (of Corduroy fame) takes that artistic license one step further by building a Horatio Alger story around his door mouse and doing his own renditions of paintings and sculptures in this beautiful volume.Puns and fun abound, so keep an eye out for them!Read more

This book is a simply wonderful book to share with chilren. It is beautifully written and illustrated, and has a great message to share as well. I am a longtime fan of redwall. I read this book becaus it looked similar. I was in for a pleasent surprise! This is not like redwall. There are no rats, no mice, only hedgehogs, squirrels, otters, moles, and swans. Instead of vermin, there are actually evil beasts of the same species as goodbeasts! The plot is that a hedge price was murdered, and a squqirrel called crispin is thought to be the murderer. But captain husk, an evil squirrel, is the killer. 5-0 out of 5 stars A dear, sweet look at the difficulty of having a new sibling
Katharine Holabird's "Angelina's Baby Sister" follows in the tradition of all the other Angelina Mouseling books.Angelina Mouseling is a small white mouse--perhaps somewhere between six and ten years old in people years--who has the complete attention of her parents and grandparents no matter what. Then one day, her mother has a baby! The new baby sister, Polly, is adorable and Angelina tries very, very hard to be interested and attentive and loving. But it's tough. No one is much paying attention to Angelina now that Polly's here, and that's especially upsetting to Angelina because she's recently been given an award at dance class.4-0 out of 5 stars Very cute!
In this next book in the Angelina Ballerina series, Angelina can hardly await the arrival of her mom's new baby. However, when the baby arrives, she finds that the baby is now the center of everyone's attention. Wracked with jealousy, Angelina has a lesson to learn...5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Gift Idea

5-0 out of 5 stars Just fabulous
Bright and bold illastrations firmly keep the childs attention, whilst Mem Foxs rhyming has them quickly reading along with you. A big favourite for many children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Repetitive fun!
I enjoy reading this book to my 2.5 year old son.It is repetative and enjoyable as he chimes in with the "Boo to a goose" line. They say this is how young kids start to learn how to read!I think it is just fun to have a book that helps your child interact with the reader. The illustrations are also unique and fun...a collage type art. I recommend this book for any parent that enjoys interactive reading time with their child 2+.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great rhythmic book for young listeners (and readers)
"Boo to a goose" is a refreshingly silly book that's fun to read to kids. The structure is very repetitive, so they know exactly when to say that they "wouldn't say boo to a goose," and all of the other, braver things that they would do instead are funny to slightly older kids too.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Thoroughly Enjoyable Book on Every Level
Most reviewers mention 2-3 years olds loving this book.I first came across this book when I was home schooling my first grade granddaughter. We also checked it out of the library more than once.(She now attends public school and is in the third grade.)My memory of the book was so fond I felt I had to own a copy for myself.I know she will be surprised and delighted to see it again and I look forward to reading it to my great grandchildren.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Illustrations
I have 2 young boys ages 4 and 2 who love to read so we have shelves and shelves full of books. This book is by far one of my favorites in terms of gorgeous illustrations and the ability to bring imagination and ideas to my older son. One book in this series, "The Treasure", was originally given to us by my father, who is an illustrator and art director. He was amazed by the beauty as well, and we've purchased every other book by this author in order to keep the story going. My son loves the story and I think it teaches him how to pretend, make up stories, and have good old fashioned fun with dress up and fantasy without all the batteries, bells, and whistles in today's toys. This book is truly inspirational and one of a kind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully illustrated
The beautiful illustrations by Leonard Filgate are some of the most professional, artistic work available in children's picture books today! They also express a wide range of human emotions through the animals' gestures which my children could easily understand.Rip Sqeak and His Friends are their "newest best friends". A great story book and a great art book for kids of all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great story , even for a 39 year old. Beautiful artwork!
It was seeing the artwork that made me buy this book. I was drawn back to my childhood when I saw the work of Leonard Filgate in an art gallery, standing there mesmerized by the detail and capture of emotion in his characters. I couldn't afford the paintings so I thought I would pick up the book as a memento. Well, I had an hour to kill so I began to read, what a joyous story! Pick one up for yourself or your child, and enjoy!! ... Read more
