5-0 out of 5 stars PERFECT FOR READING ALOUD....
With no intended offense to Mr. Lithgow, I've not watched many episodes of "Third Rock from the Sun". I've never seen him on Broadway. Chances are, I'll miss his new show that's slated for TV's fall season. But without a doubt, I am one of his biggest fans, and so are our twins.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great pictures inspired by great paintings
As the daughter of an art teacher who spent lots of her childhood in art museums, I loved this book. My kids like it, too. The rhymes are fun and inspired, the illustrations are beautiful and witty, and the payoff -- Micawber's collection of works, featuring the eponymous squirrel in various classic paintings -- is a riot. This is one of the books I'll keep for the grandkids.

5-0 out of 5 stars My [...] recognizes Monet's work!
We were given "Micawber" as a baby gift. When I first read through it I wasn't sure that it would ever be a favorite, given the high-level vocabulary, so I stuck it on the shelf. When my son was about [...] he pulled it off the bookshelf at bedtime. We've now read it at least once a day for FOUR MONTHS.And my son and I still love it!Thanks to this book, my son loves to point out the various paintings in the illustrations (great illustrations, BTW), he yells "Micawber" every time he sees a squirrel, and he's fascinated with painting of any kind (fingerpainting, paint with water, even playing with my old eyeshadows).I had no idea that a 2 year old could develop an appreciation for fine art and GRE level vocabulary, but it's true.Yes, perhaps not all pre-pre-schoolers will love this book (and neither will all 4-8 year olds or parents), but those who do love it gain so much from it! ... It all started when Trap invited Geronimo to solve a mystery on Pirate Island. So they used this hot air balloon. Before long, they realize that they are being shot by...CATS!

The big G Geronimo has done it again with a great adventure story, Attack of the Bandit Cats. The illustrator of Attack of the Bandit Cats is Matt Wolf. Can't imagine it? Well believe it the writer of a book with a mouse had a guy with wolf in his name illustrate. Also captured by cats was probablyGeronimo, Thea, Trap, and Benjamin's the five main mice worst nightmare.

Editorial Review

Rosemary Wells' tales of animals with very human problems make her a favorite from the board-book years on. Now one old Wells friend, Nora, that noisy mouse, returns with all her middle-child problems still on display. What's a mouse to do when little brother and big sister take up all mom and dad's time? Yup. Plenty of noise. Look at these new pictures and you can almost hear the racket. With all that clatter, it might be better to read this one before dinner, not before bed! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A True Classic
"Noisy Nora" is the story of a young mouse girl, a middle child who just can't seem to get any attention. Ignored because her younger brother needs constant care and her parents play games with her older sister, she resorts to acting out --- making all sorts of noise. The rhymes are simple but catchy.
5-0 out of 5 stars favorite children's book
I loved this book as a child, and had it memorized before I could read.Fifteen years later I found myself searching for a copy of it to give to my younger half sister so that she could also enjoy it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fondly remembered from childhood
I borrowed this book from the library so often as a child, that I knew exactly where to find it on the shelf well before I was able to read the cover. Now that I have a daughter of my own, this was one of the first books we added to our collection of children's stories. Not only are the prose and illustrations totally charming, but the book offers several "teachable moments" (including opportunities to talk about name-calling, which earned the book a dressing-down by another reviewer). This is a two-generation favorite! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pushing Tin
Every copy of "The Mouse and His Child" should come with the following warning label:"ATTENTION - The contents of this book are deeper, more metaphorical, and far too clever for the immature adult.Should you find this book in the hands of such an individual, redirect it immediately to that of a mature child instead".And while that probably wouldn't cut down on the number of complaints you receive, it may well give adult reviewers and readers a taste of what's to come.I picked up "The Mouse and His Child" for three distinct reasons. One - Because a friend of mine is perhaps the greatest fan of Russell Hoban this side of the Atlantic. Two - Because it is considered a children's literary classic and I very much wanted to jump on the bandwagon.Three - I just finished reading, "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" by Kate DiCamillo and was told by a reliable source to read this book before reviewing the former. The classic toys-on-their-own-in-a-cruel-world has been a popular theme since day one.In fact all living toy stories have one element in common: The happy ending is entirely reliant on the toy heroes finding a child to love them in the end."The Velveteen Rabbit" is obviously the exception to this rule, but even then his transformation is inextricably linked to being loved by a kid."The Mouse and His Child" is different. In it you have two heroes bound together and incapable of physically extricating themselves from dire situations without aid.Yet without children anywhere to be seen and increasingly frightful situations at hand, these heroes succeed because they have brains and will. All that plus the book beats all others hands down when it comes to the most satisfying happy ending I have EVER encountered in a novel for kids.Ever.
1-0 out of 5 stars I wish I could rate it ZERO
I cannot for the life of me figure out why people give this book such rave reviews. This has got to be the absolute, rock-bottom WORST piece of waste paper I have ever read. I can't think of ONE good thing to say about it. It is poorly written, badly planned, uninspiring... just BAD. And I don't just mean bad for children... JUST PLAIN GODAWFUL BAD.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Mouse and His Child
Rusted and stuck on the bottom of a lake, and you can't get out until you've seen the last visible dog. That is just one thing the father and his son have to over come. They see war, death, happiness, cold, evil, and then finally the son sees the last visible dog. A tin of dog food saved the lives of the tin mice. Father and son thought that they would never leave the doll house in the store, and the elephant, until they were bought, wrapped up in tissue paper, and put under the Christmas tree to dance. It wasn't a bad life, well, they were put up in an attic until Christmas came again, and then they would do the thing that they were meant to do, dance and never get tired. Everything would have been fine except that the son was not happy . He was upset that the elephant and the doll house weren't with him, and where was his sister seal that had also spent time comforting him in the toy store? Finally he couldn't take it, he did what he was never supposed to do, cry. That's all it took for the tabby cat to attack them and destroy the gears that make them do that dance. Garbage day came and when it went, they went with it. Then, by chance, a tramp saved them. This bookis a work of beautiful fantasy, weaving in things that many authors would leave out.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book for a child perfectionist
My five year old daughter was having a problem with trying to be a perfectionist. It was making her extremely anxious. This book sends the right message that nobody has to be perfect. As soon as I read this book to her, she loved it and has wanted to take it to bed with her every night.Whenever she wants to read to herself, I see her grab this book. It's hard to find a book for a preschooler that sends this message so that kids can understand it.I think this book would also be good for preschool aged child that does not have a good self-image. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A good story, but may need some creative editing...
This book is a good one, especially if your child loves the fair, but beware that the word "hate" is used to describe how she feels about her cousin...not exactly the words I would have chosen to describe the fact that she doesn't want to take him along with her to the fair...but it's easy enough to change the words on the fly for younger listeners.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
In this next book in the Angelina Ballerina series, Angelina has spent the winter saving up her money for when the fair arrives in town. Disaster strikes (in Angelina's eyes) when she is forced to take her little cousin Henry along. She proceeds take her annoying little cousin on all of the rides that she loves, but he finds frightening. However, when Henry disappears, Angelina learns a lesson about others.4-0 out of 5 stars the best in the series
This is the first Angelina book I recieved and I believe that it is the best in the series of Angelina books. It has everything a terrific children's book should have. The characters were obviously created with great attention to details and are utterly charming. The fabulous watercolor illustrations were enriching to me as a child when I read Angelina at the Fair due to the pastel color choices. This book also has a perfect balance of intrigue, suspense, and adventure. Every little girl should have the opportunity to read this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a super cute book!
I checked this book out of the library for my 16 month old son. He absolutly loves this book! It quickly became his "lovey" and he carries it everywhere. So I knew I had to own a copy of this book and have it on hand, before the library's copy was due back! The mice are drawn so cute! There's mice on almost every page, some are bigger and some are smaller. My son points out all the mice on all the pages, even the small somewhat "hidden" mice. They story has great rhyming text, it's great for learning animals too. The story is about pet shop animals and it says how the other animals smell, are loud, or shed...but mice make the best pets! After reading this book, when my son's older...I can see him asking for a pet mouse! Ha ha.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for young children
This is one of my son's favorite books. It is very well written and the rhymes in it flow nicely. I recommend this book to anyone with children who are learning to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down
This was a wonderful story which takes place at a location Mr. Seidler used to visit and that means a lot to him. The weasel society enjoys life and dancing, and even has its own celebrity, Bagley Brown. Bagley has a secret crush that would raise eyebrows if it were discovered, and he questions a pretty weasel's crush on him because he's never done anything great enough to earn the honor of sharing his father's name. Circumstances happen to change his destiny, and the destiny of his tough-guy rival, Zeke Whitebelly. I liked the theme of loving someone who's different, because even in this day and age the love of someone for a person of a different color or faith still raises some eyebrows. The way the book ended was a complete surprise to me, and the description of the beautiful lake with the ocean nearby made me wish I could pay a visit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mouse Count- Love this Book!
This book is a really fun one to read aloud to my kindergarten class. It is not scary! They love it! And the fact that snakes eat mice is a basic fact that they understand. I especially like the moral of this story:Don't be greedy! When I read it, I always hear "Read it again, please".To make it even more fun, we get a plastic jar, a toy snake, a rock, and little toy mice to dramatize the story. They love to make the jar rock back and forth until the mice spill out and run away. This is a favorite centertime activity that the kids choose over and over again. It's a great prediction book with basic counting forward and backward concepts imbedded in it. You can't go wrong with this book for the PreK/K range.

My own fault I guess.I should have read the reviews for this book before purchasing it.I just assumed that the wonderful author of Mouse Paint would have a similar charm for this book.

My three year old son loves this book even more than Mouse Paint.Despite previous reviewers' concerns about the mice being described as "little warm and tasty," this part makes my son laugh the most.He loves counting backwards, tipping side to side to mimic the mice as they tip the jar, and repeats the moral to the story on a regular basis. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Rabbit Pulls A Rabbit Out of His Hat!
There's something very old-fashioned about Eric Rohmann's Caldecott-winning illustrations in "My Friend Rabbit." The think outlined forms, simple black eyes, and wide-open compositions recall the best of early Disney and other period animation. Rohmann's every character and nuance is well conceived; for example, the soft, lightly mottled blue-grey background is a reassuring constant in a wild tale full of high-flying twists and turns. Reading the book flap, I discovered that Rohmann used "hand-colored relief prints"; Rohmann's mastery of this technique apparently produced the luminous, vintage animation look.
4-0 out of 5 stars My Friend Rabbit is great!
My Friend Rabbit by Eric Rohmann is a really funny book to read. In the beginning Rabbit threw Mouse's plane too hard and Mouse fell out. Wherever Rabbit goes trouble follows. Rabbit says he has an idea and he gets a lot of animals and stacks them on top of each other to try to get Mouse's plane from out of the tree. The animals all fall but Mouse was hanging on to the plane and he gets the plane out of the tree. Then Mouse takes Rabbit for a ride on his plane because Rabbit is Mouse's best friend.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Story!
My Friend Rabbit, written and illustrated by Eric Rohmann, won a deserving Caldecott Medal in 2003.Using vibrant colors in his artwork, Rohmann tells how rabbit always, 'has an idea'.As you turn the pages you watch how rabbit's idea gets the best of hisself and his friends, yet Mouse continues to be his friend. This is a great story about friendship told mostly through pictures.
