CHILD AUTHOR- GREAT BOOK BY A KID FOR KIDS
This is a wonderful book authored by a 6 year-old for other children.
Great Read-A-Long Book
My 3 year old LOVES to follow along and read, "CHEESE!" whenever it is on the page.My 5 year old is asking to read this book EVERY NIGHT.The pictures are so vivid, they capture their attention. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as a gift or for your own kids!!

Not a book about friendship or tolerance.
Agree w/ a prior reviewer - this book was VERY disappointing.I was horrified to hear it read, for the first time, by a 'teacher' (who obligingly filled in the dialogue for the non-mouse animals, to say to the mouse: "No I don't want to be your friend. . .your too little (or whatever)."
Is it just me....?
or was anyone else confused by this book? Now don't get me wrong I don't expect War and Peace in a children's book, but a little more dialogue would have been nice. As it is, there are 2 possible conclusions I can draw from this book:
compared to hungry caterpillar a disappointment
yes this is a book about friendship and i realize for child at times simple is better but this book i thought really lacked especially compared to how great a book the hungry caterpillar is(i personally think just about this authors best book)it has at the very start of the book the question ask by a mouse "do you want to be my friend?"and then at the end a yes from another mouse no other writing between yes you can teach your child a little about the other animals the mouse is apparently asking though not in print.I personally thought this could have been laid out a little different ... Well illustrated, delightful book.
Loved this one
Adorable and well illustrated.The author leads the young reader to believe that Mouse and Mole are headed to their own demise.This book is a great read aloud also and I have used it in my classroom.Children love the meter of the ryhmed text.Highly recommended.You'll love the happy ending.

Hilarious!
Parents and kids alike will enjoy these very funny stories for beginning readers. My kindergartener and I laughed so hard, especially during the sheep story. Highly recommended.

Read it another time and another time and......
In this book, mother mouse is getting her son off to bed and kisses him goodnight. He tells her he wants another, mother and she takes that to mean he wants another mom. What he really wants is another kiss but she scurries off to find another mother for him. Mother mouse finds a mother duck, a mother frog, a mother pig, and a mother donkey and all of them kiss little mouse but poor baby mouse doesn't want another mother! He is finally able to tell his mother that all he wants is another kiss! So she gives him two and tucks him into bed.
Mother, Mother, I want another
This was my favorite book as a child. My mom and I have been trying to find this book for nearly 10 years now. I found it! This is truely the most memorable children's book I ever had. It is the best book you can read to your child!! It is definitely up there in the ranks of Runaway Bunny and Love you Forever!!

A great book!
It's a fun book to read to preschoolers.Its a cute book to read with your young/early reader. Its a GREAT book when your 5 year old reads it to you.

This little mouse is so much fun!
Don't let the subtitle, "A Phonics Reader," scare you. Your kids will love this book. This action-packed, sound-effect filled, little book will delight as well as instruct. I have given this book as a gift and my friends tell me that their kids (2 and 4) ask for "mouse" again and again. They love to identify the moving letters and to repeat the new rhyming words. It is a wonderfully simple book for children who are just beginning to read on their own. I highly recommend it. I am excited to see that another book with the same character is coming out soon. Another fantastic Maisy book
What else is there to say? My daughter got a kick out of Eddy on the ferris wheel.

a mom's review....
beautifully illustated, heartwarming childrens stories. Even though the Angelina stories are geared towards girls, my little boy, at 8, enjoyed these as well, especially when mom read to him.These are good stories to read to your child at bedtime.
Adorable
When Angelina Ballerina finds out that her ballet school will be putting on a performance for the Princess of Mouseland, she couldn't be more excited. She stays up all night practicing and practicing, only to wake up feeling sick, and unable to dance. However, she does try, and ends up with only a chorus part in the performance. Disappointed, she vows never to attend ballet school again, until her Mother tells her to be happy with the part that she has. Agreeing, Angelina Ballerina goes back to ballet school only to save the day once again. My daughter and I both love this book!
"Angelina and the Princess" is the first of the Angelina series my daughter and I have, but we plan to get the rest as we love this so much.Angelina is a tiny white mouse who yearns to be feminine and sweet, but is sometimes headstrong and silly--just like most girls I know (including my five-year old daughter!).Angelina has a dance recital coming up and she is pining away for a major role.However, as she's sick on the day of auditions, she doesn't do well and in fact, barely is able to crawl back home and into her worried mother's arms.She knows she did poorly, and her mother admits as much too, which brings me to one of the things I love about this book--there's no sugar-coating the fact that Angelina has gotten herself into a pickle.It's a storybook, and a fantasy at that, but it's realistic enough to keep the edge off the sweetness.Read more

Bill Peet's sweet illustrations shine, as always, throughout this book
I own the entire Bill Peet collection of children's book that he has written/illustrated. I started reading them to my son when he was 3 years old, and am thrilled to report that he loves them as much asI do. Capyboppy is based on Bill Peet's true life experience with this lovable rodent, and while his illustrations and storyline are wonderful, this is my least favorite book in the collection. It is a little heartbreaking at the end and I came away feeling quite sad. There are many funny antics and true compassion throughout the story, and it's is a natural progression of nature that's shown, so if you are able to handle a little "sadness", you will love this book. And if anything, the pictures are wonderful to look at.

The real thing!
I have been working professionally on capybaras since 1981 and this book is a beautiful portrait of what a capybara is like. The drawings, the details of the capybara's behavior are exactly what I would have expected a capybara would be as a pet. The story is also very nice, very well written and fun. Excellent book.

CHILDHOOD FAVORITE

A Shy but functioning mouse.
I was at the library with my children tonight when I saw this book on the shelf.The title intrigued me as I have a 4 year old son Charles (we call him Charlie) who can be shy from time to time.I stopped what we were doing retrieved the book, and read it to him and my 2 daughters.
VERY DISAPPOINTING
I have been looking for books to help my child with SELECTIVE MUTISM begin to understand his difficulties with talking in public. We like so many of Rosemary Wells' other books, so I was excited to find this one. Luckily, I previewed it first! The pressure from Charles' parents and the ridicule and name-calling because Charles won't talk are APPALLING. How is this supposed to help a child begin to feel good about themselves?? If anything, this book seems to want to shame a shy child into talking, not build his confidence. Sure, Charles rises to the occasion and saves his babysitter. In the end, though, he realizes no breakthrough and gains nothing from his heroic act. Do not read this book to your child if you want to help him/her get over shyness!

unfortunate name-calling in this book
We are tried and true Rosemary Wells fans, and are familiar with most of her books.I borrowed this one from the library, and was disappointed to find Charles' parents expressing their frustration through language like "another mother would have spanked you" for not saying thank you or goodbye (maybe Wells could have the mother model good manners rather than threatening punishment)and the father actually calling him names for not participating in football, which Dad forced on him.What a negative approach to modeling the behavior you want your child to adopt, never mind giving parents the idea that it's OK to treat a child in this manner.Needless to say, I edited it heavily when I read it, then returned it to the library post haste!Not one for my library! ... Excellent guide for young readers
I bought this book for my daughters 9th birthday because we decided to let her get a hamster. The book is very informative, has bright colorful pictures, and simply makes you want to read it! My daughter read the entire book in one setting, as did I. I liked the fact that each chapte focuses on the child reading the book, explaining everything in simple terms and then on the very last page of the chapter there is a just for parents list of everything that was covered in the chapter. I know I learned a few things from reading this book and I'm sure you child will too!

Great info in a "cute" package!
When I found a review of this book on hamsterific I thought it was a book about the cartoon Hamtaro, but I was wrong. It's filled with very good hamster information that's easy to read, but still more comprehensive than other hamster books I've read.
One of the Best Hamster Books I ever read

My Daughter's First Maisy Book
