5-0 out of 5 stars THEY DESERVE BETTER
I read this boook because I had a history project all about Japanese Internment. Before I read this book I thought Japanese Interment was only about the Japanese in some camps.I didn't realize the injustice that weset upon these noble and great people. After reading this book I feltenraged at how the Japanese would have to sell or burn their beautiful andvaluble items.I think they deserve so much more than a letter from thePresident. We should have a much better tribute toward them. I have alwaysbeen proud of living in such a great state such as California, but I am notproud that they were the least tolerant of the Japanese.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dear Fellow Adolescents,
In this book called I Am An American that I read is a really good book because it is for the kids at the reading level of 9-12 (ages to). If you wanted to know the story. Well in the story their is a yough boy and hisfamily that were intered with others. Also in this story is based one atrue one, it is almost like a biography. As I was thinking about this storyI realized that is was a very educational it makes you think about theworld itself. When I was reading some other reviews I saw one and it caughtmy attention and I had to write about it. It was about a girl who hadexperienced what went on in the book. As I was reading on in this review itsaid that the girl and her family were interned too, just like the boy inthe girl in the review. The girl's name that was interned with her familywas Shi Nomura. I think being interned is like you having to pack up all ofyour things and then moving out of the place where you were and then neverreturning. I think that is just like being interned because you can nevergo back. And then I started to read another review and it mentioned thatthis whole thing happened during World War II, and that was one of theworst wars that went on in the world years ago. They said that Japan andmany other countries were over world order. "Freedom has a Tousandcharms to show". I used this because the people that were internedprobably thought that they were going to be free because it makes it seemlike they were going to be free but they weren't, going to be free at all.I think that it was a good book because it tells how badly people weretreated, it had said that it was a good book. Some people may say that itwas not a good book because it might make kids think that when they grow upthey will be treated that way. It also might make it seem that this isstill going on. It also might make teens think that the world around themis unfair to different people (races). Then it might make teens feel thatsome people in the world are disrespectful to different people (races), andshould be respect to them no matter what race the people are. And it couldmake them think that people have no kind of respect for others and insteadof being mean to them. It is a good book however kids can read it, get aneducational idea of their life and the world that surrounds it. I Am AnAmerican can get a teen or a child to start reading at the reading level of9-12. If you by this book then you will enjoy reading it because it willtell you what went on in the world back then instead of now. If you readthis book now you will think that "Life isn't the same".Read more

I didn't really like this book because it didn't make sense. It didn't make sense because he daydreamed so much you didn't know if he was daydreaming or not. I also didn't like it becuse the words werent discribed that well. Another reason I didn't like it was because it was confusing. It was confusing because it sounded all scrambled up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Park's Quest
I would give Park's Quest by Katherien Paterson four stars. I have to admit I was confused when the flash back to Midieval Times started. The book was about 11-year-old Park who tries to find imformation on his father's clouded past. But Park finds something he never would of imagined. The ending of the book was excellent with discriptive words and great sentences. But the beginning of the book was dull. Otherwise it was a good book. I would recomend this book to anyone who likes Historical Fiction. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Come All You Brave Soldiers
This book has teached me how black people were an important part in history of the United States of America. It also gave me ideas how the Revolutionary war was started by showing me historical events that happened during this time period. The author pointed out events like the Boston Massacre and following the course of the war through the Battle of Yorktown. It expresses how the blacks and Native Americans were treated as none equal and legal rights were opposed to them. The best thing about this book is that it gives enough detail to understand what really happened in the Revolutionary war.

5-0 out of 5 stars The rest of the story
Clinton Cox should have his own historical radio show similar to Paul Harvey's. Cox tells the rest of the story of the AmericanRevolution. He writes about blacks(free and slave) who fought in the war. He carefullyelucidates facts such as the hedging of colonial leaders to allow blacks toserve eventhough many were already signed up and fighting. There wereblacks involved in the war starting with the Boston Massacre and up untilthe end. The use of blacks by the British as a ploy against the Americansis also detailed. Cox masterfully shows once again why there is notAmerican History and African American History it is the History of theUnited States. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing!
I assumed I would be receiving an "academic" book discussing the lives of US nurses during World War II. Instead, it was simply a "coffee table" book full of mostly pictures. I would recommend "We Band of Angels" to a reader that wishes to learn more about the sacrifices of the brave women who fought as nurses during World War II.

5-0 out of 5 stars Women of Courage and Bravery
Even though I am only a girl of twelve I felt very moved by this book. I felt as if I wanted to do the things that they did. This book did a wonderful job describing what women as nurses in the Red Cross did during WWII. It shows women can do just as good as men. This book recognizes the bravery and courage of women in combat zones and the challenges and hardships they overcame. 5-0 out of 5 stars Women of Courage and Bravery

Should absolutely be "Required Reading" for all children whose Fathers are in the 160th. It helped them to better understand and accept his many and lengthy absences from home.Read more

Editorial Review

The only foreign photographer in the Soviet Union when Hitler's troopsinvaded in 1941, "Adolf Hitler's greatest enemy," the first journalist to enterthe concentration camp at Dachau before American troops arrived to liberateit--these are descriptions of some of the courageous World War II correspondentswho risked their lives to report on the outrage, devastation, and hope of war. What makes them especially notable is that they are all women. Penny Colman'sremarkable book tells of some of the 127 women who defied the traditional genderbarrier to become accredited war correspondents. Reporting on Iwo Jima, concentration camps, famous battles, and Nazi rallies, stellar writers andphotographers such as Margaret Bourke-White and Clare Boothe Luce scooped manyof their male colleagues, and gave the folks back home a real image of war.Breathtaking photographs, actual newspaper dispatches, and edge-of-seatdescriptions of the near misses the correspondents experienced as they followedthe war make this book the ultimate for girls in search of girl powerinspiration. 5-0 out of 5 stars Best book ever!
When I read the book "Witnesses To War" I couldn't put the book down. I was disgusted by the true Nazi persecution. The book is about collections of the true life stories during the holocaust and the Nazi persecution . One of the storiesI liked the best was about the Polish children being tested for Germanization because it was twisted that the Nazi's could capture a child .The parents were helpless. I liked this book a lot because I am interested in the holocaust . It's well written and makes you want to read more aobut the holocaust.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fuller picture of persecution in WWII
I was impressed by this book because it presents the suffering of people in WWII without staying completely focused on the Jews. The Nazis were willing to murder anybody, who, for any reason, did not fit in to their ideology or view of the world. With this book, there is a more clear demonstration of that - yes, a couple of the stories are about Jewish children, there is also a story concerning the plight of a Polish child, one about a gypsy girl, and a child's view of the horrendous occurence at Lidice, Czechoslovakia. The stories about the Jewish children are also varied; one escaped via the Kindertransport, one story was about girls hidden in a convent, and another whose father was featured in a very famous photo that made it out of Germany to tip people off to the kinds of things happening there.4-0 out of 5 stars Witnesses to War
The book I read was Witness to War by Michael Leapman. This book was about eight true-life stories of children that were sent to concentration camps, and others who the Germans tried to make into German citizens.
