Stop everything! If at least one copy of each of these classics is notin a prominent place on your bookshelf, your home and your progeny's childhoodis incomplete. Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends--blustery old Owl, bouncy Tigger, clever Christopher Robin, glum Eeyore, and the rest--have been a staple ofchildren's literature for over 70 years in A.A. 5-0 out of 5 stars Timeless Classics
Winnie the Pooh and friends will bring lots of laughter and love to any child and will bring back lots of memories of your own childhood. These books are of the original text that Miline wrote for his own son, Christopher Robin.
5-0 out of 5 stars Every Child Should Read At Least One
Every child should read at least one A.A.Milne book. They are excellent read-alouds because they are entertaining for the adult who is reading them as well as the children.
5-0 out of 5 stars I can still recite some of these poems, 40-some years later
Pooh may be the headliner, but some of the stories I remember best are those of James James Morrison Morrison Weatherby George Dupree (who took great care of his mother, though he was only three), Emmeline (who went to see the Queen), and King John (whose list for Father Christmas contained just one item, a big red India-rubber ball). Everything is written from a perspective that a child would understand, without judgment, without condescension... This is a wonderful collection. I can still see Pooh trying to get his head out of the Hunny jar, Owl going on at length about the Spotted or Herbaceous Backson, Eeyore mourning his popped balloon.Whether your kids read these books themselves, or you read to them, these books are a treasure they'll want to pass down to their kids. ... When Christopher Robin asks Pooh what he likes doing best in the world, Pooh says, after much thought, "What I like best in the whole world is Me and Piglet going to see You, and You saying 'What about a little something?' and Me saying, 'Well, I shouldn't mind a little something, should you, Piglet,' and it being a hummy sort of day outside, and birds singing."Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Winning Book
The tales are lovable, enjoyable and moving, and perhaps the most important thing is that although written for kids, we adults can reflect on the way we live our daily lives. We live through the pages the feelings of all characters fear, amazement, joy, kindness, self-inflicted misery, competitiveness, good times, and most of all, positiveness and passion to enjoy and nature true friendship. We have these feelings and emotions as human beings. There are Rabbits, and Tiggers and Owls and Piglets all around us and we can barely seem to recognize them in our friends or the people we communicate with every day. Illustrations are gorgeous,an outstanding vision of life.

Who doesn't love Winnie The Pooh? Don't answer that. This is an excellent and charming book to use for bedtime stories for children. I grew up with it and I still love it! It endears the simplicity of life and love...and honey.

Editorial Review

Seventy-five years ago, that most beloved of "silly old bears,"Winnie-the-Pooh, came down the stairs, "bump, bump, bump," on the back of his head, behind Christopher Robin. And now, after generations of children have grown upon stories about Pooh's adventures with his forest friends, the four all-timechildren's classics from A.A. Milne and Ernest H. Shepard have been collected inone hefty, handsome volume for another multitude of generations to enjoy.Gathered together are the poems and tales that celebrate heffalumps, Eeyore'sbirthday, the unbouncing of Tigger, Disobedience, Buckingham Palace, andsneezles. The stories about Pooh getting stuck in Rabbit's doorway, Piglet doinga "Very Grand Thing," and Eeyore losing a tail (and Pooh finding one) aretimeless favorites for children--and grownups--of all ages. Four originalclassics are here, in all their glory: Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Collection of Classic Stories and Poems
Finding a "Winnie the Pooh" book is easy. It all depends what you are looking for. For the many parents and grandparents hoping to read the wonderful stories to younger people the adventures of Pooh, Christopher Robin, Tigger, Eyeore, Piglet, Kanga, Rabbit, Owl and the rest, this will be more than adequate.
5-0 out of 5 stars I am Pooh!
ever since i can remember, my nick name has always been Pooh...because supposedly i am a bear of very litle brain! plus i'm blond! The reason for the nick name was that it is my favourite book in the world, and i never tire of it! Some may think that the name is vulgar, but once you start to read it, you love it more and more. Without doubt one of the best books ever written, if not the best. If you haven't read it, i advise you do, because it is every bit as magical, as everybody thinks it is.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heirloom Quality Collectible Book - It's that good!
After reading the review of this book, I was hopeful but not too excited. A few days later, after ordering a new copy of the book from Amazon, I was elated. This is the WINNIE THE POOH book I have been waiting for, for years. Someone finally took the time and loving care to do it right. Everything about this book, from the color, cut out bookcover (and COLOR hardcover cover underneath it!) to the light yellow butter colored pages with full color EH Shephard illustrations lavishly presented throughout, this book is obviously a work of love. The map of 100 Acre Wood on both front and back inside cover is in color!!This beautiful edition was produced to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of this story and it is a winner. The story itself, of course, is priceless and enduring, but the presentation, this time around wins kudos. I immediately placed it on my bookshelf. This one is a keeper. Don't miss out - and don't buy cheaper editions - trust me, this is the one you want. Worth every penny and more. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Sweet childre''s litterature
This is the original Winnie-ther-Pooh. The one you fell in love with as a child, when it was being read aloud to you by your parents as a bed time story. I have just used the story in an extended essay about english litterature for children, and I can very much recommend it to children, as well as adults. It has, as well as so many fairytales, so much more to it than what you understand as a child, and you ought to read it again as an adult. The only thing to comment on, is the fact that Tigger doesn't appear in this edition, but it is nevertheless extremely charming, and no child should have a childhood without it. A thing to notice is the sweet and interesting introduction by Milne himself, and the just as sweet little drawings and the map of Houndred Acre Wood in the beginning of the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Hundred Acre Wood, a favorite place to visit
I actually enjoy Winnie-the-Pooh and The House At Pooh Corner much more as an adult than I did as a child.Maybe this is because I was not properly introduced to them at an early age.I am sure that the Disney shorts set some preconceptions in my head (namely, that these are merely childish stories).I think that the original Winnie-the-Pooh features from Disney are wonderful gems, but they do, nonetheless, depart significantly in overall character from Milne's stories. It is also true that there is a great deal of cleverness and insight here that I did not discover or appreciate until I was grown up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Poems for Now and Everafter
One day, I found one of these poems running around in my head 40 years after I first began reading them to my boys when they were very young. As my older son took possession of that copy some time back, I had to order a new one for my 67-year old self just to get the lines absolutely right. It was worth it.My only regret is that I have no grandchildren to drum them into.Charming, literate and comforting.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Escape From the Real World -- (written by my sister).
This book is good for kids and adults. It is a great way to escape from the daily depressions in our world news. Unlike other books, it provides a fun, innocent adventure that still has the appeal to people of all ages. After a hard day, this book allows you to forget all bad - there is no evil, there is no wrong. highly recommended!
5-0 out of 5 stars Illustrated in color and black & white by E.H. Shepard
The World of Pooh is better read aloud.Milne's characters are charming and lovable.Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends are alive in this book every time I read it, and Shepard's illustrations are so pleasing.I've read these stories so many times and still each time I can hardly wait to find out what adventures Pooh and his friends will have.

4-0 out of 5 stars Second best
I grew up memorizing and reading Alan Alexander Milne's poetry. While this small book has the same whimsical, childish humor and imagination, I must say my favorite poems are all in the first volume, When We Were Very Young, which has favorites such as "The King's Breakfast" and "James James Morrison Morrison" and "John had great big waterproof boots on".
4-0 out of 5 stars Good From Six to Sixty
This is A.A. Milne's charming work about Winnie and Friends and makes for ideal reading to a 6 year old by his 60 year old grandparent. It's wonderfully illustrated as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Timeless
My aunt gave me this book when I turned 6 years old, and I have since passed it on to my own 6-year old.We recently sat together reading this, and laughing over some of the poems and oh yes, explaining how poetry is different than some of the other books my daughter has read and enjoyed. She's thoroughly enjoyed this book as I did, and I hope she passes this along to her children and so on.These poems are timeless and funny and well worth sharing, they transcend the generation gap for sure! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My son LOVES this book
I purchased this book after reviewing several other similar books with CDs.This book has 4 stories and 8 poems. My son is almost 3 and keeps saying "Winnie the Pooh bear stories".He absolutely loves it!We were keeping the CD in the car so he could hear it on drives and we would read the book together for story time. But now he wants to hear it all the time! The female voice who narrates is wonderful and has a very soothing voice.I would highly recommend this book.It has quickly become our family favorite!

1-0 out of 5 stars Extremely disappointed
I made an unfortunate selection in purchasing this storybook before a similar review (H. Hudson Aug 14) was posted. Had I waited I could have benefited from that review. Instead I must post a similar review. The most disappointing thing about this storybook is the CD does not let the child know when to turn the page. We also expected to hear familiar voices for Pooh and the gang rather than just a full narration. At this price there are much better selections if you are going to be turning the pages yourself.

This is a truly delightful little set for the baby-preschool crowd. There are 6 tiny, different colored board books in a box, each measuring only about 2.5" by 3".They are eye catching and intriguing, and little fingers virtually itch to get to them. These scaled down versions of Milne's stories, each with 5 pages of text each set across from one of Shephard's original illustrations, have been perfectly simplified for my 2.5 year olds' attention span without loosing the feeling of being real little stories. The set includes; Pooh and Some Bees, Tigger Has Breakfast, Eeyore Has a Birthday, Playing Poohsticks, Pooh Goes Visiting, and Piglet's Rescue.A typical page reads something like this:

The House at Pooh Corner is yet another book in the Pooh series. This book is ok, I say this only because it's not as good as the original Winnie-the-Pooh, (When We Were Very Young, etc.)But with A.A. Milne's storytelling and Ernest H. Sheppards fantastic drawings you can't go wrong.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unsuitable for Toddlers
I purchased both My First Winnie-The-Poor and Bedtime with Winnie-The-Poor for my 2 year old granddaughter who is beginning to look at Pooh stuffed animals, etc. These are board books, designed for the very young, but these two books are simply scattered exerpts from the full length book or "Now We Are Six."Some can stand alone, but others simply start with a paragraph from Pooh and end a few paragraphs later with no "ending" understandable for a 2-3 year old.A child fully able to appreciate the exerpts would be better off having the REAL Pooh read to him or her by an adult.

4-0 out of 5 stars Addicted!
This is some of the best money I ever spent. My soon-to-be three-year old son is absolutely addicted to this cd!He wants it in the playroom, in the car, at his friends' houses, in his bedroom when he's sleeping...I think we have listened to it almost non-stop since I purchased it over a month ago.He also asks to read the stories several times a day.He has even decided to change his birthday theme from trucks to Pooh.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for Pooh Fans
This is not the best touch-and-feel book out there, but it is very nice if you are a Pooh fan. It uses the original Shepherd illustrations, and includes some interesting textures (like "sticky"!) that you don't see in other touch-and-feel books. However, the touch spots are not very large, and my boys had trouble following the story. It was soon put aside in favor of Fuzzy Fuzzy Fuzzy by Boyton and the classic Pat the Bunny.

4-0 out of 5 stars good tactile but clunky story
Nice illustrations and good sturdy touchables but the story might not entertain older toddlers. My one year old loves to "read" it herself and find the place to touch on each page. Seems like a disjointed edit of longer Pooh story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best touch and feel I have found
This really is a high quality touch and feel book; they are usually so disappointing. There is a page with sticky honey, one with a shiny balloon and one with Christopher Robin's wellies (among others). My 10 month old really enjoys playing with it and the sensations are so distinct that I can't help but think he is learning from it. There is no story, but that is not to be expected from a touch and feel. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Unique Approach to both Winnie the Pooh and Pop-ups.
This is a new approach to a traditional story.Your basic vignettes for Winnie-the-Pooh are there in a scruptuous 3D layout [more than pops up it has some interactive tabs as well].At its furthest reaches, it lays out width wise to about 4 1/2ft - not a page turning book. Each of the seperate scenes are then brought up and/or down [either all at once or one at a time, your preference]...three are in the trees to the ground so are a good height as well. One includes Tigger being pulled up and down the tree and another has Eyeore floating down the river whilst Christopher Robin and Pooh are playing Pooh Sticks.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect!
What a refreshing change to hear Pooh in his native tongue!I am a great fan of Disney movies but Pooh is something special in this wonderful audio version of the timeless stories. My 5 year old listens to this tape all the time!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic production of classic tales!
My 3 1/2 year-old son and I absolutely love this cassette on a number of levels! The acting is great: lively without being over-the-top, convincing without being melodramatic. The cast brings out the humor of Milne's writing beautifully.I have to admit that I was not a Milne fan before purchasing this; I just didn't 'get' it.After listening to this cassette, I realized why: Winnie the Pooh is marketed here in the U.S. as an early childhood character/series.But it's not.The stories, the humor, the characters, and the language all are aimed at children about the age of Christoper Robin, who must be atleast 5, *and* at their parents.Ie there are elements that a child would never get, but I do, and so both my preschooler and I understand at our levels.Other fantastic aspects: great sound quality, sound effects, choice of stories. One point: Because of the British accents and idioms, this products works best for a patient and interested child. Also, for the preschooler (such as mine), it required that I listen with him the first few times until he understood the storyline well enough to follow without me.But don't let this discourage you. From the start, my child enjoyed the different voices (especially piglet) and sound effects. The subtlety only means that he doesn't get bored with it -- after even the 30th time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Say "Ho" for the wonderful Pooh!
This amazing dramatization of the Pooh books is performed by a marvelously talented group of British entertainers who truly bring the Pooh characters gently and lovingly to life. As for this tape, I finally got this figured out. This is part of a four-tape program that represents the complete two-book Winnie-the-Pooh story collection, except the stories are out of order (probably so that they would fit equally on the tapes). Book 1, "Winnie-the-Pooh," is represented by "Pooh Goes Visiting" (stories in order: 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10) and "Piglet Meets a Heffalump" (stories: 5, 6, 7, 8). Book 2, "The House at Pooh Corner," is dramatized by "Tigger Comes to the Forest" (stories in order: 1 2, 4, 3, 9, 10) and "Pooh Invents a New Game" (stories 5, 6, 7, 8). When stories that depend on previous information are out of order, it gets confusing. My suggestion: Get the "Winnnie-the-Pooh" / "The House at Pooh Corner" gift pack, which is also four tapes (the same recordings), but in the proper order. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A CD worth having!
Miranda Richardson does a fine job reading the poems, with a clear voice. I do not always agree with her interpretations of the intent, but she is still very pleasant to listen to, and the poems are, of course, absolutely wonderful. My sons love this recording, too. These books belong before the Pooh books, though Pooh appears here and there. ... Read more
