    5-0 out of 5 stars EJK -
If you don't know the name Ezra Jack Keats, then you just might miss out on one of the ultimate treasures of the literary world. This simple story of young Peter is a delight to read any time of the year as the protaganist wakes up to a snow-filled scene that he explores and enjoys. He even tries to capture a bit to bring home! Read this with your young ones as they anticipate the coming season or read it by the fire as you dry your feet after a winter day.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats, reviewed by Joshua, Mrs. Bhola's second grade
If you like snow you would like the book The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. It is about the adventures of Peter going out in the snow. I like when Peter put the snow on his head. I liked it because I like books on snow. Check it at your local library.

5-0 out of 5 stars After all these years it's still relevant - rare urban African American protagonist
Atfer all these years, the pictures, text, and message still endure. The art has not become dated, nor has the language.Proof that "less is more" means a classic story.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great inspiration for a LEGO fan
This book is a little on the thin side, but it is a beautiful, colorful book stuffed with color photos. If you are a LEGO fan, or even just moderately interested in the LEGO hobby I think you'll find this book fascinating. It starts off with a little history of the LEGO company and products, followed by a tour of the main facilities. Then the real fun starts. Sets, themes, and models and some of the creative processes behind the different products. There are lots of pictures to draw inspiration for building your own models. As an admittedly slightly obsessed fan, I have had this book for around two years and can still stare enraptured at the pictures. Anyway, moving on, the book closes with a few pages looking at the LEGOland parks and models built by professional LEGO master builders. A great book for anyone looking for LEGO inspiration, or anyone who appreciates seeing other peoples' creativity. I gave it four out of five stars. If the book were a bit longer, it would have easily gotten a five.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book you'll pick up again and again
There are many sides to the LEGO company and its products. This book helps present many of them in a vibrant colorful format that makes this a fun text to explore page by page. There's little in the way of formal narrative to this book so you can pick it up and flip to just about any section you wish. Much of the information is presented by way of large photos and descriptive captions or short paragraphs of text. The clarity of the photos is extraordinary, such that in some cases you can literally read the company's logo on the top of the individual studs. Readers used to seeing LEGO models on the internet will be pleased with how sharp and rich the pictures are in this book.
2-0 out of 5 stars Should be called "Ultimate Lego BROCHURE"
I'm giving this one 2 stars because my son, a big Lego fan, loves the pictures and is gazing endlessly at it.So it's worth it for that (although we checked ours out at the library). However, in reading it through now for him for the 2nd or 3rd time, I'm realizing that this is a shameless shill for the Lego Group's products, philosophy, and theme parks -- complete with a foreword by LEGO Group's President and CEO.I'm surprised, as the other DK children's books we have are on non-commercial subjects and are complete with their signature high-quality color photos and multitude of sidebars. But the sidebars in the Lego book contain things like this (on a page devoted to showing off the Lego clothing and accessory line):"combed cotton yarns prevent bobbling" and "clothing designed to allow freedom of movement and durability."Is this a Lands' End catalog, or a children's book?Who is the intended audience?

5-0 out of 5 stars Oh Amelia...We Love You So!
This book in the series finds Amelia Bedelia and her employers going camping...as always Amelia's literal minded approach means lots of misunderstanding between what the Rodger's tell her to do and what Amelia does.As always, Amelia Bedelia does EXACTLY as she is told (let's hit the road leaves Amelia hitting the road with a stick and I think we can all guess what happens when it's time to pitch the tent)!!In the end, its Amelia's big heart (and extraordinary cooking ability) that saves the day (as usual) when the Rodger's get fed up with all the misunderstandings!!Young readers will love to hear this story read out loud, but it's also a find book for readers just starting out!Amelia, I think, will be around for generations to come, the stories are simple, but hilarious and the illustrations are just darling!Always a good way to get a discussion going about how we use words and how a word or phrase can have several meanings...plus it's just plain fun!

When Duck gets the zany idea to ride a bike one day, each animal on thefarm has a reaction. "M-o-o-o," says Cow. But what she's really thinking is, "Aduck on a bike? That's the silliest thing I've ever seen!" Pig and Pig say"Oink," thinking all the while, "Duck is such a show-off!" But it's not until acrew of kids shows up and leaves their bikes lying about that the true feelingsof all the animals come to light, and for one brief, glorious moment, the farmis a mad, mad world of two-wheeling road hogs (and chickens and horses andgoats). 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Read!
My two year old and four year old love this book!We checked it out of the library and were sad to have to return it. The story moves along in a very predictable way, yet has a great twist at the end. It gets read several times a week and has definitely become one of our family's new favorites!

5-0 out of 5 stars I wish I could ride a bike just like duck!
For me, any book that can be acted, as much as read aloud, is a book that I want to share with my listeners and one that I would definitely recommend to you. This book is both those things. The ingenious text invites you to mimic the farm animals and be the most spirited reader you can be. In the hands of a dedicated reader and/or a devoted parent, this title will prove an exceedingly satisfying read. The illustrations are gorgeous and can be most appreciated in the arms of a child while he/she studies them up close. The clever ending will hopefully tempt your son or daughter to say, "Uh-oh, what's he up to now?" and foster a discussion with him/her about what might happen to Duck next. This is one of the best examples of contemporary literature for young children because it so artfully combines smart writing with outstanding illustrations. Again, like so many of the books I've presented to my audiences at the Children's Museum, this is a book that should be included in your young child's library because it will undoubtedly be read over and over and enjoyed till it's worn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful!
This is such a fun book for children and their Parents! The farm animals are so cute and the expression on their face is humorous! Parent's can have fun giving each character a different voice. This is an excellent book for young children! My son enjoys many of David Shannon's stories, including the David books. The David books are probably more for children past the toddler stage. My son read one of the David books in front of class and the students loved it!The David pictures are pretty funny too.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Cultural tension of Canada told through hockey
The Hockey Sweater is a book that I grew up loving and when I entered Teacher's College (Primary) I made it priority to have it in my library. I have found the book is excellent to read to students of all ages. The religious connotation is not a problem for public schools as long as a pre-intro is given to tell children that the Quebe education system was for the majority made up of Catholic schools. 2-0 out of 5 stars blah ending
what i thought would be a great book for my 2 hockey players ( ages 6 + 9), we were all dissapointed in the ending.the story builds as the boy is the only one with a different sweater from everyone else.Instead of something great happening to him, it ends with him in church praying that moths eat the sweater.period , thats the end. not very inspirational for your kids.want a great hockey book?get "The Magical Hockey Stick" its great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Canuck Childrens Book Hits Home with American Dude
The Hockey Sweater is such a nice little childrens book that can melt the heart of any hockey fan no matter how old. The book is great for young people, the illustrations are adorable and there is some hockey history laid in the book as well. It is a nice look back on a semi-forgotten time and it is nice to introduce old-school hockey to the youngsters. I am going to read this book to my nephew once he is old enough and if that is not recommendation enough to get your hands on this book yourself, then I am lost for words. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A story, a little history and a treat to the readers eyes!
I like that this book starts as soon as you open the book.. not 3 pages later! On the inside cover with items one might use to make a kite. The next page shows the narrator and her family at the store picking out these items on a beautiful windy day made for kite flying!
5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, colorful, and like a kite.. surprising in direction
Grace Lin's pages are filled with spirograph-like swirls, bright patterns, bold colors, and even more colors. The inside cover is filled with drawings of the tools needed to make a kite (paper, scissors, paint, glue, etc), while the back inside cover is filled with the meanings attributed to the types of kites you fly (dragons for wisdom, dragonflies for Summer, butterflies for love, fish for abundance, taods for long life, etc). The whole family is involved in making the feng zheng kite, and then they ascend a hill to fly it with other families. She closes the book by asking the reader to imagine what people's kites are saying about their wishes and desires.

    5-0 out of 5 stars High-flying fun
In "Kite Flying," by Grace Lin, a family makes a dragon kite together and then takes it out for a flight. It's a simple story that effectively combines brightly colored illustrations with an easy-to-read text. Sample text: "It is a good day for kites." It's an enjoyable story that is also a positive portrayal of a family at work on a project together.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for toddlers
My two year old loves this book and quickly learned all the poses. The book has a few basic poses which are renamed for the animal they mimic. For example, "standing forward bend" is renamed "monkey" because the pose resembles a monkey bending over. The illustrations and text are simple and the back of the book has photos of actual children doing the poses along with some parental tips. It's a great book and I highly recommend it. It's also a great gift idea for a young child whose mom practices yoga.

I found this book to be a little on the "mystical" side of Native culture. As a Indigenous woman on this continent I found the first few chapters a little stereotypcial and disheartening. 5-0 out of 5 stars Rhythmic, Colorful Fun for Children
In this title, Patricia Hubbard uses rhythm and fun to introduce colors.Children are quickly reciting the repetitive refrains with smiles on their faces as this book is introduced.G. Brian Karas' illustrations are colorful and imaginative providing good visualizations to Hubbard's imaginative, colorful ideas. The book uses a familiar crayon box to describe things that can be seen or drawn with each color.Preschoolers through beginning elementary school children love this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun, fun, fun!
Every child I know - my students, my children, my nieces and nephews - loves this book. The repetive refrain is perfect for beginning readers and the rhythm of the language engages young readers immediately.Your childwill want to hear the story over and over.Non-readers will make up theirown story but the refrain is easy and fun for them to remember and"read". ... I read this as a child and think it is a classic. My own children have loved these books.Newer books aren't always better.

4-0 out of 5 stars 4 Georgie Dans Le Forest
When the now iconic Man in the Big Yellow Hat warns Curious George,"now don't wander off and get into trouble," we know exactly what's about to happen instead (especially since he had already rushed off). Despite his good intentions, George adventures turn into misadventures: Dousing someone's campfire, getting lost with a galloping deer, and being sprayed by a skunk that George thought was a cat. As usual in these series (story by Margret Rey, with illustrations by a team in the style of the late H.A. Rey), George's curiosity also leadsto some monkey heroics. He also learns howto get rid of skunk smell (a vat of tomato juice).4-0 out of 5 stars Curious George Goes Camping

This is a great manual for a PE or Elementary teacher. The pictures and directions are very easy to understand and Chinese jump rope is a fun, low cost activity for a classroom teacher. There are a lot of great ideas for individual and team games. Overall, this is an excellent activity guide for kids, but might be hard for younger children to comprehend without adult assistance. The two jump ropes that are included are very helpful because they are almost impossible to find in stores. ... Read more

Great book. What an easy way to get children involved with writing associated with literature. Not only does The Best Part of Me expose children to engaging prose, which they can relate to, it also gets them thinking about what they might say about their own bodies. This is an easy and instant writing project for any classroom, K-12, and the end project creates a terrific bulletin board. The book is worth every cent.

This book helps me really relate to my life.I am the left striker, my parents are divorced, but unlike the story it's my mom who usually can't make it to the games because she is blind so she can't drive. It's hard because when I move fromhouse-to-house I have to move equipment too. This situation makes me feel bad because at my dad's house I have two stepsisters and a stepmom and my dad has to drive them everywhere and it sometimes make him feel like a taxi driver! This book is a real situation story and it is probably my favorite book in the series, though I also suggest Soccer Scoop! Ned Donovan. ... Read more

I love using this book with my students (I remember reading Curious George as a child). There are a number of issues that my students and I talk about. We talk about responsibility (it was the newsboys job to deliver the papers...not George's), bicycle safty (George should be wearing a helmet), and stranger danger (George should not have gotten into the truck with the two men.I always make the paper boat with my students.Curious George books have held up for many, many years...I am sure that they will be around for many, many more.

3-0 out of 5 stars George on the move
In this outing, the Man in the Yellow Hat gets George a bicycle to celebrate their third-year anniversary of living together. Riding the bike in front of their home leads George into a series of adventures that take him further and further from home. He starts off by helping the newspaper boy to deliver papers, and then becomes involved in floating paper boats down a little stream. After his bicycle is damaged in an accident, a traveling circus meets George and allows him to participate in their show for the night. While at the circus, he accidentally feeds an ostrich a bugle, and then redeems himself by tracking down and retrieving an escaped bear cub.
