5-0 out of 5 stars A multicultural winner!
This book delivers a keen insight to the impact of micro-lending as a positive force for change. The story tells how a young woman and four of her friends, with seed money borrowed from an innovative bank in Bangladesh, change their lives by starting their own businesses. It works on many levels including multiculturalism, women's rights, capitalism and entrepreneurship. Based on the real success of the Grameen Bank, this is the kind of story that all western children need to understand in an ever growing global village. This book has recently been listed as one of the Best Children's Books of the Year from Bank Street College and also received a 2003 Skipping Stones Honor Award in the Multicultural and International Books category. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting
I liked this book a lot. I bought it in high school and it was a good book. It was a little elementary at some points. It talked about running a business such as T-Shirt Printing(where you put designs on a shirt and sell it). A lot of the information was great though. If youre in college it may be a waste of time it's more high school. It's for those who don'tknow much about businesses.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great book.
I beleive this is a great book.It gives excellent motivation in getting started in a business. It helps you to understand how to run your business and get it started. It even gives you examples of current businesses started by young entreprenuers.

1-0 out of 5 stars waste of money
I regret buying this book. It's not a guide for young people to starting your own business unless you call part time babysitting a business or selling your goods at a flea market as having your own business. The "businesses" the author has in mind are are, for example, selling homemade goods to your friends or anyone else you can get to buy them. If you call having a lemonade standa business, then this book may pertain to you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Hero to Remember
In the month of December of the year 1994, there was a 12yr old boy honored as a hero. Iqbal Masih had been a child slave in a Pakastani carpet factory. Five months later Masih had been murdered in his own homeland. Though his life was taken, his actions live on as he inspired middle school students world-wide and adults to help free and educate the child laborers. This is a powerful story of a courageous boys life and death. Masih was a remarkable boy who lived a very full, inspirational life in a tragically short life spand of only twelve years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Iqbal Masih and the Crusaders Against Child Slavery
The story of Iqbal changed my perception of a child's place in the world. Who would have thoughta four-year-old could be sold for approximately twelve dollars and forced to work in a rug factory? Who could imagine that a twelve-year-old Iqbal could speak for the rights of children in Pakistan?Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick and easy plans with great suggestions
This book is full of ideas to make learning fun. While it has your standard worksheets, it also has interesting and entertaining lesson ideas for your child. If you're pressed for time or just struggling to figure out where to start with your kindergartener, this book is for you. The worksheets are front and back - meaning you'll probably have to copy some pages to avoid ruining others. But the content is far and away the best I've found. Definitely a great guide.

This book a little dumb but still cut. All parents out there who have 6 year olds who can read and like counting should buy this book. The colorful pictures and easy to read diagrams make this a captivating book.Godfrey covers it all - from the history of money, government and taxes, credit and it's pitfalls to investing. Because the pictures tell so much of the story even young children will gain insights about money. 4-0 out of 5 stars Those pants of Levi's
Sure, it's a biography, but try to stifle your yawn. The story of Levi Strauss and his famous riveted pants is filled with interesting facts. We learn that Strauss carried 180 pounds of merchandise on his back as he peddled his goods on foot from town to town. In addition to the details of this success story, readers are introduced to American life in the mid-1800s. Ocean travel, the California gold rush, and the great San Francisco earthquake of 1868 are integral parts of Strauss' story. Consider this one for the inevitable book reports that will be coming due.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Man Behind the Jeans
I myself enjoyed the book. The book makes for easy reading and it gives you a deeper look at Levi, but not too deep that it will start to bore a child.I believe it would be perfect for a student in the 4th grade because it ties into the Gold Rush era, which they are studying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ooo, Heart-Shaped Money
"The earliest reports of payments with cowrie shells were from China about 3,500 years ago."
5-0 out of 5 stars Great place to start
I have an older version of this book. The latest has added a section on shared currency. The cover on the older version has more exotic coins such as heart cutouts. However any version of this book shows a lot of colorful pictures of script and coin. There are simple descriptions of the making of and measuring of money. If you are a coin collector the descriptions help enhance the collection by telling what the symbols represent on the coin as well as some tog the history. My only disappointment was the lack of information on porcelain notgeld. This makes you wonder what else may be missing. Well you can not stuff everything in to 64 pages with pictures.
