4-0 out of 5 stars What kids about to get their first monster need to know
With the film "Monsters, Inc." about to hit video stores, lots of young children are going to be interested in the wisdom offered in "Laura Numeroff's 10-Step Guide to Living with your Monster" (illustrated by Nate Evans) in anticipation of having their own monster in the house. This book is geared specifically for ages 3-7, the age when a child usually is given responsibility for their first monster. It will be useful to parents who have forgotten or did not know that monsters like Country & Western music (I certainly did not know that and would not have even guessed that was indeed the case).Ms. Numeroff helps with not only the selecting of the proper monster, but covers such basics as naming, feeding, and cleaning. The back of the book contains glowing tributes from "Good Monster-Keeping Magazine" and satisfied readers. I should note, that many of the principles enumerated by Ms. Numeroff could be applied to having a pet or baby brother, just in case getting a monster proves to be unrealistic for you and your youngsters at this particular point in time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
10-Step Guide... is full of imaginative fun. Ms. Numeroff's clever writing style and Mr. Evan's playful illustrations really come together nicely to offer an enjoyable experience for the reader. I am also impressed that part of the proceeds from the sale of the book goes to Michael J. Fox's Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

5-0 out of 5 stars Monster Fun.....
Laura Numeroff and Nate Evans have authored the quintessential resource guide for monster acquisition and care.Find out how to choose the very best monster, and how to pick the right name."You don't want to call him Hercules when you sister calls him Fluffy."Learn what to feed him, where to take him, how to handle a visit to the vet, and how to train him..."This may take some time."Get grooming tips, bedtime strategies, and hints for monster games and entertainment. And always remember, be good to your monster and he'll be good to you.....Ms Numeroff's silly, clever text is full of energy, humor and fun, and complemented by Mr Evans' engaging bold, bright, and busy illustrations.Together this dynamic duo have come up with a list of dos and don'ts, no monster lover can live without.Perfect for preschoolers, Laura Numeroff's 10-Step Guide To Living With Your Monster is a joyous, manic romp little ones will beg to read again and again. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The man of a thousand faces and the boy of a thousand faces
The story is about a boy and his movie make-up.He lives in a town where no one believes in Halloween and monsters....except for him...5-0 out of 5 stars The boy if a thousand faces
I thought this was a wonderful book.It had everything a kids book should have, mystery, adventure and best of all it dealt with Halloween, every kids delight, even at 43!

3-0 out of 5 stars Turn out the lights and read by ... flashlight!
Brian Selznick has created a perfect Halloween story book for the younger school age set. They will ask to see "Frankenstein", "Dracula", and "The Wolf Man" after reading and seeing the pictures in this little book of "horrors". The beginning was a little fragmented and slow to grow but once the story was moving to the main problem as to who"the beast" was, you really wanted to know more and why.The ending was very cute; maybe too cute for me, but I'm not 10 years old. The telling of this tale will help parents in getting their kids to talk about their fears, their dreams for the future, their secret desires! The boy hero is a real kid with hidden dreams who is able to finally show those dreams to his friends and family! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Need some tips?
The epic movie trilogy "The Lord of the Rings" was the first exposure to Tolkien's work for a lot of the people who watched it. And the fans who haven't yet read the books should check out this book, to get the tips on who and what and where and why.4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Introductory Guide for Children and Adults
Although this is the official movie guide for children to the Two Towers, I found that it was helpful for adults who are not Lord of the Rings fans and/or have not read any of the books by Tolkien. It is lushly illustrated with gorgeous photos of all of the people/creatures in The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers. There are also a few photos of how they developed CGI characters such as the cave troll and Sauron.Underneath each photograph is a sentence or two explaining who the person/creature is and how they fit into the story. The wording and the brevity of the descriptions make it perfect for younger readers or those looking for a quick and dirty introduction to the characters of Middle Earth including Hobbits, Ents, Easterlings, Haradrim, Uruk-Hai, Gollum, the Watcher in the Water, Dwarves, Elves, Wizards/Istari, Balrog, Gwaihir, and many more. The book also comes with a free fold out enlarged picture of Gandalf confronting the Balrog in Moria.I would recommend this book for those who are not very familiar with The Lord of the Rings trilogy and for children ages 8 and up.It is very short at app. 60 pages (most of which is taken up by pictures) and so is a great introduction. However, if you are a Tolkien fan and familiar with the stories or saw the first movie, there is nothing new for you here.

4-0 out of 5 stars A guide to the creatires and cultures of Middle-Earth
I do not know if there was a "The Fellowship of the Ring Movie Tie-In" version of "The Lord of the Rings: Creatures," but there really does not need to be because this book covers all of the creatures encountered in the first two films based on J. R. R. Tolkien's trilogy (although there is a special little section on the "lost" Tom Bombadil). The emphasis is decidedly more on the film than the original novels, with quotations from both the actors and the technicians who brought Tolkien's creatures to life.Within these pages young fans of "The Lord of the Rings" will find everything from hobbits and their hairy feet to the tree-like Ents.In between there are the forces of men, elves and dwarves allied in the West to face the dark servants of both Saruman in Isengard and Sauron in Mordor.Attention is paid to not only all the species but all of the major characters that appear in "The Two Towers."There are lush photographs from the films (I especially like the shot of Treebeard) but also production drawings and computer graphics, almost always accompanied by insights from the likes of director Peter Jackson, head of special effects Richard Taylor, and others.Older readers will find this book just whets the appetite for more information about these creatures and how they were developed from Tolkien's original descriptions into what we have seen in the films. But younger readers should find this official movie guide to the creatures and cultures of Middle-Earth to be suited to their interests.A fold-out chart is included (cannot know the creatures without a program), but hopefully young readers will put off pouring over this slim volume until after they have actually seen the film.Your first look at Treebeard, Gollum, and Shelob should be in the film, not the photographs of this book. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars PCC Student Review
I read this book to a 4th grade nephew of mine, being he is the only family member I have anywhere near the desired age for the assignment given. The child already displayed adaquate knowledge of the ability to discern the topic touched upon. The concept of money was not new to him and was quickly able the book shuffled around the concept of equal amounts, just grouped differently. He was not so captivated by the illustration(s) and found them to be rather on the mediocre side, *kid is spoiled on flash animation and japanimation*. He did say that perhaps at one time he'd expressed interest in the book, but that that time had since passed. Good book, wrong audience for me I think.

5-0 out of 5 stars a fun book about opposites
This book and "Big Bird's Copy Cat Day" are books that I keep in my car to read to my son (age: 1 1/2)when he gets cranky. The rhyming of the book is good.I do not mind it when I have to read them over & over to him.

4-0 out of 5 stars Follow The Monsters
"Follow the Monsters" is a typically lighthearted Sesame Street book ideal for kids in the 12-36 months range who are just learning to enjoy books, and maybe can even read a bit on their own.The charactersare a large cast of furry monsters in search of a way to Sesame Steet.Thebook focuses on describing the monsters (fat and thin, red and blue, oldand young) and how they travel to Sesame Street (walking, flying). No deepmessages here, but our 16 month old loves it and, perhaps as important, itis a book we enjoy reading to him. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Creepy Monsters!
What would you do if your brother was a monster? So guess what happens in Bruce Coville's Book of Monsters:Tales to Give You the Creeps! This story is about a kid named Jason. He has a baby brother and he is a monster! That's really creepy to me what about you?My favorite part is when Jason finds out his baby brother is a monster! The full moon turns Little Dumpling hairy and he gets a mouth full of teeth.Even if you are a monster you can be loved and have a family.I don't want to give the ending away, so read the book for more.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is a cool book with a bunch of cool stories in it.
Bruce Coville has gone and brought some of his short stories and other peoples about monsters together. He has some in like My Little Brother is a Monster and his mom finds a little baby on the front step and they take it in. Then the boy sees that it changes in the light of a full moon. Pretty good book, but some of the stories are kind of lame.

5-0 out of 5 stars YOU SHOULD DEFINATLY READ THIS!!!!
I WOULD DEFINATLY RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE WHO WANTS A GOOD BOOK TO READ. WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT LUCY IS ALWAYS MAKING UP MONSTER STORIES, SO WHEN SHE FINDS OUT THAT THE LIBRARIAN IS AN ACTUAL MONSTER, NO ONE BELIEVES HER. NOW SHE HAS TO PROVE TO HER FAMILY THAT THE LIBRARIAN IS A MONSTER. THE BOOK HAS A SURPRISING ENDING THAT IS REALLY COOL. THE BOOK ISN'T REALLY SCARY IN MY OPINION, BUT I THINK THAT R.L. STINE DID A GREAT JOB WRITING IT. IF YOU READ IT, I'M PRETTY SURE YOU WILL LIKE IT.

4-0 out of 5 stars She's Telling the Truth...But No One Believes Her!
Lucy likes to tell monster stories (especially to her little brother Randy to scare him). One day, she left her rollerblades at the library so she had to go back to get them. When she's there, she spots the libriarian. But something is strange about him today. Mr. Mortman (the librirarian) is changing into a monster! Lucy tells her parents, her brother, and her friend Aaron, but no one believes her. While Lucy get some proof, or will she become monster chow?

5-0 out of 5 stars One of Stine's best
Before I say anything else, I'd like to warn some of you - be careful about reading reviews here! Some folks don't have the sense to not give away the ending. If you'd like to be surprised, read the book and skip the reviews.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Water Horse by: Dick king-Smith
If you're into exitement, adventure, & mystery then read The Water Horse by Dick King-Smith. In this book you will find that a girl named Kirstie finds an egg on the beach and keeps it for a pet. But, Kirstie doesn't know that the egg she has is really a ferocious monster. Kirstie finds out that every day when she checks on the monster it never stops growing. I would recommend this book to anyone that's into adventure and mystery because this book is very interesting in a weird sort of way!
3-0 out of 5 stars Adorable...
A satisfying explanation of a well-known mystery--but I won't spoil it by telling you which one. All the main characters are charmingly written (my favorites are the grumpy old grandpa and Angus, the little boy who is always ready to eat) and I loved how King-Smith described what the water horse was thinking. This book leaves you with a good feeling.3-0 out of 5 stars Finish Now!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great story with good pictures
Godzilla and Anguirus discover a strange white ball, which is what the monsters call it. In reality it is a giant cocoon! Mechagodzilla comes to get it! Godzilla defends it.I like it becauseof the plot and pictures.Godzilla looks ok--although his eyes seem too big.

2-0 out of 5 stars False Advertising
I always felt this book wasn't that great. From the cover you expect the story to focus on those cool mud monsters, but they only appear in the last few chapters. In the meantime there's just a lot of silly antics as the kids come up with various scare tactics that all fail.
5-0 out of 5 stars This was the best book I have ever read!
This book was very exciting. My favorite character was Hat.He was very funny.I also thought that Courtney's dad was funny. It was a GREAT book!
5-0 out of 5 stars YOU CAN'T SCARE ME

5-0 out of 5 stars The Green Monster by Sonia Murphy
This is a terrifically pared down version of the cartoon episode of the same name. It leaves out the scarier and harder-to-understand [for young children] elements of the story without actually changing it, and the sentence structure and choice of words is short, simple and perfect for the age group it is intended for. I can honestly say that I would be thrilled to share these books with my baby brothers, especially since I know they'll actually understand what they're reading (unlike a great many 'childrens' books today). ...
