4-0 out of 5 stars If you like the movie you'll like this book.
My older son loved this book when we introduced it before the DVD. He was too young to sit through the lengthy text but we solved the problem by just telling him our version based on the movie. He bonded instantly with Sully when grandma bought him the giant stuffed monster and "monster" was one of his first words. These days he takes the book out and "reads" his version to his little brother. He's only seen the movie twice (because he has restricted tv viewing time) but he tells a pretty good story.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too long for very young children
My pet peeve among children's books is when they are too darn LONG.It takes forever to read this one aloud as it is written, and my 4-year-old gets pretty bored.(Of course, your four-year-old's mileage may vary.)I usually make up a short, one or two sentence synopsis for each page, and "read" that instead of the long paragraph.1-0 out of 5 stars Boo Is Evil!!

It Wasn't Like We Expected. We Wanted A Quiet Book & Guess What??It Went, "Reeek!!!" "BWAAAH!!" And Finally, When I Read It, Mike Was Hurt By Evil Boo!! :-..(Poor Monsters! 5-0 out of 5 stars Heck Yes It's Scary!
This review is meant to SAVE "THE FLAT MAN"! Sure, if you want a namby-pamby safe tidy nightie-night, keep looking. This book is scary and deliciously so. It's memorable, imaginative, and creepy like Alvin Schwartz's younger stuff. My daughter loved "The Flat Man" and she grew up valedictorian of her class. It won't ruin your child!

1-0 out of 5 stars Nightmares
For some reason, my daughter's school librarian thought it would be a good idea to read this book to the class. She was wrong! This is a terrible book for children. My 6 year old is having nightmares worrying that The Flat Man is coming to get her.The Flat Man does not ease childrens' fears about the dark, it creates new ones.

1-0 out of 5 stars Creepie is Correct
My 2 1/2 year old son's pre-school started reading this book, the kids love it when it is being read, but my son is going around closing doors and sleeping under his covers at night and has also had screeming episodes during the night. He has been pretending to put the flatman under our basement stairs storage area.I would not recommend this book for children under 5. Why put these thoughts into such young minds (the dark is scarry enough for them :) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Frankenstein's great story!
I love this story! It is full of suspense, depressing moments and scary moments! The ending was very deeply sad! The only think I would change would be the killing too much of it,though it was still cool like that. Well I think this is a great sotry from ages 7-12 please read this story great story for the kids!

4-0 out of 5 stars Frankenstein
I read the book called Frankenstein.I really liked this book because it was full of action and suspence. The only thing I would change is all the deaths and the people dying in the book.It is so fasinating how Victor Frankenstein, the creator of Frankenstein, dug up dead bodies and put them together piece by piece to create a human. The other weird thing is that he was afraid of his own creation.Everybody was scared of the monster so the monster decided to kill everybody Victor loved.I don't want to tell you the rest so you have to read the book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Ten Oni Drummers
One oni after another rise out of the sand in this delightful book by Matthew Gollub. In this book, the oni are not so much terrible and fierce, but endearing and protecting. They play their Japanese drums (taiko) to ward off any evil in their path.A brief history of the oni, the taiko, and kanji (Chinese characters that were adopted in written Japanese) appears at the end of the book, and a chart is included for those eager to learn to write the kanji.5-0 out of 5 stars A warm story of gentle monsters who help

5-0 out of 5 stars creature teacher
My book was creature teacher by R.L. stine. the protagonist 5-0 out of 5 stars A R.L. Stine Classic
Paul Perez is having troubles at school, and after he brings his talking parrot to school, it says "Don't do your work, the teacher's a jerk", the teacher takes Paul to the office. He trips her on the way, and she cracks her knee on the tile floor. So his parents sent him of to a boarding school, The Caring Academy. When he gets there, the teacher that shows him around says that the kids like to play jokes on the new kid. When he sees his new teacher, Mrs.Maaargh, he thinks he is really weird, and when she says that she is a monster, Paul thinks it's a big joke.Mrs.Maaargh shows him her food chain, a chart with the names of the kids on pieces of paper with velcro tacked on them. She tells him that after the talent show, whomever is at the bottom, she will eat. Paul wants the joke to be over. But at lunch, when he sees Mrs.Maaargh eat a mouse, he is convinced.Paul needs to stay at the top, but he is not jetting where he wants to be. Will Paul make it, or will he become Mrs.Maaargh's Thanksgiving turkey!!...

5-0 out of 5 stars sophisticated, scary and entertaining
R.L.Stine hits the nail on the head with the nightmare involving an actual monster for a teacher in a secluded boarding school. This book is an instant classic and is probably the scariest in the Goosebumps 2000 series. The pulse-pounding story is an intriguing one that shouldn't be read at night.... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mother of a 5YO boy says this is an AWESOME book!
I was given this book (and it's matching stickers and magnets) as a xmas gift for my 5YO son who loves dinosaurs and monsters and now he is OBSESSED with it and wants it read to him every day!It has totally gotten him interested in greek mythology and given him a very impressive knowledge of the characters that most adults can't claim. He even asked to go to the library for more books on greek mythology - i got a few but nothing can hold a candle to this one.it's just so geared towards kids and is written in a lively, fun and conversational style - the illustrations are great too.I'm going to give it as a gift whenever i get the chance!

5-0 out of 5 stars With simplistic, stylized color illustrations
Greece! Rome! Monsters! is an engaging children's picture book by John Harris about fantastic mythical beasts. The legendary Chimera, Griffin, Minotaur, Phoenix, and many more are each summarized in a two-page spread and brought to life with simplistic, stylized color illustrations by Calef Brown in this magical bestiary which is especially recommended for beginning to intermediate readers. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A first rate introduction to the Creature for young movie monster fans
When it comes to rubber suited monsters I still hold that the Creature from the Black Lagoon is the best of the bunch, and while the name of Bud Westmore is not as well known for putting together the creature's look as well as Jack Pierce is remembered for doing the makeup for Boris Karloff as the Frankenstein Monster, he should be. This is the second volume in the Famous Movie Monsters series I have read, so I know that in the first chapter of "Meet the Creature from the Black Lagoon" that Brent Peterson is going to recap the 1954 film that launched the reptile man-creature as a monster icon. The synopsis is accompanied by publicity photographs from the film, that starred Richard Carlson, Richard Denning and White Bissell as the doctors, and Julia Adams as Kay, the young woman that the creature falls for. The recap is well written and I liked Peterson's point that a "knife is a persuasive argument." Of course, it does not substitute for actually seeing the film, so hopefully young readers will pick up this book after they have seen the actual Universal film.
5-0 out of 5 stars Creature book is spooky good
My oldest son has been interested in the Creature for a while. He thinks its all kind of funny, actually. I got him this book and he loved it. The pictures of the Creature alone are worth it, but my son enjoys reading about the movie and how it was made. I must admit, I like it, too. Good fun. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars terrific find!
I picked this up in the bargain bin at my grocery store for my 9 year old son -- who is into juvenile science fiction and fantasy -- in the hopes that he'd be equally interested in mythology. He loves it. He pulls it off his bookshelf frequently and makes references to the creatures in conversation.
