5-0 out of 5 stars A REAL page-turner!
I love Star Wars. When I first got into the whole Galaxy of Fear book series, I wasn't sure whether or not I would like it. I ordered it(book 4), not knowing what it was even about! But when I finally DID get around to reading it(which was about a month ago) I had a hard time putting it down each time, because it was soooooo interesting! And as I put it in as my review title: The Nightmare Machine is a real page-turner!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fascinating Ending
The ending of this book was so great that it couldn't get any better. On the last 30 pages, I couldn't stop reading. It even started to scare me. The Galaxy of Fear series is a great series that mixes in suspense with the story. I encourage anyone to read this book. It has a great plot, and is easy to read. ... Read more

Editorial Review

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring because of a nasty, contagious illness--even the mouse is in bed with a miserable cold. Only brave Madeline is up and about ... competently running the household until she hears a knock at the door--a visitor whom she suspects might be Santa Claus. Instead it is a magical-rug merchant, with 12 red carpets that Madeline thinks would be perfect for the 12 girls and "For our ice-cold in the morning feet." She procures a few francs from Miss Clavel and pays the merchant. Without his rugs, however, he is very chilly, and he feels quite silly for having sold them. He returns to the old house (still covered in vines), where Madeline helps him thaw out, and he works a little Christmas magic--sending the girls on cross-country carpet rides to surprise their parents. Of course, Miss Clavel's bell breaks the spell and they're all back in time to celebrate the New Year.(Ages 4 to 8) Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite Madeline book
This is my favorite Madeline book and one of my favorite books in general. I think it's very sweet that Madeline, the littlest girl in the old house covered with vines, should be the one doing all the cooking and cleaning when everyone else in the house is sick. It's also sweet that she makes the important decision of purchasing carpets from a rug merchant to warm everyone else in the house; in many households, little children hardly have anything important to do, so this story is a lovely fantasy that children might enjoy. I also liked the part where the magic carpets brought all the little girls home to their families, and they were able to give their parents hugs for Christmas. A charming story.

3-0 out of 5 stars Little more than a Madeline Christmas card from Ludwig Bemelmans
"Madeline's Christmas" was originally published as a special book insert in the 1956 Christmas edition of "McCall's" magazine (which is where a shorter version of "Madeline and the Gypsies" would appear a couple of years later). It is the shortest of Ludwig Bemelmans six Madeline books and the only one in which all of the pages have full color illustrations instead of those familiar ones that are predominantly yellow. The story seems at first like it might be a take off on "The Night Before Christmas," since it interjects the first four lines of that poem after beginning with the familiar recap of the old house covered with vines, the twelve girls, and Madeline's inevitable retort to the tiger at the zoo.But it turns out that everybody in the house, from Miss Clavel to a poor mouse, are in bed with cold.Everyone, of course, except for brave little Madeline.
5-0 out of 5 stars The other reviewers missed the boat on this great book!
It's not so much the story here as the activities! It has reuseable vinyl characters (like Colorforms) that kids can use to create their own stories--tons of games and holiday worksheets. I must disclose that I own a bookstore that stocks this title, but I am VERY selective about the items I stock--especially for kids. Enjoy! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The last book in the three-book story arc
The grief-stricken Qui-Gon Jinn wants revenge on the people responsible for the murder of his loved one, Tahl. His apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi is lost as he struggles to comfort his master and at the same time concentrate on the mission they are on. When Jedi Council member Mace Windu and Bant, Tahl's apprentice, come to aide them, Obi-Wan feels that everything will get better. But he couldn't be more wrong as Qui-Gon strikes out on his own, Bant resents him for not contacting her earlier about her master Tahl, and the situation on the planet Apsolon becomes perilous. Can Qui-Gon begin using his Jedi training to control his personal feelings? And can the mystery surrounding Apsolon be solved before it's too late?4-0 out of 5 stars vengence isn't always nessesary
The call to vengence is a continuing to the book previous to this one in the series named "The Ties that Bind". The call to vengence is all about the main character Qui-Gon-Jin trying to find the man who had his jedi partner killed and to pay justice to him, throughout the book Qui-Gon is attempting to keep his rage for vengence in check. 2-0 out of 5 stars depressing...
It gets two because it's Jude Watson, that's all. This is probably my least favorite of all the Jedi Apprentice, and in it, Qui-Gon behaves in a way that is not only unJedi-like, but unlike Qui-Gon as well. I could write him better than that, and I'm no professional writer. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A little too much of a cliff hanger.
This was an ok read overall. It was, as the others in this series, a quick read. With this being a set up for five book story arc it was a little uneventful. The knights did get to tangle with a notorious bounty hunter, Boba Fett. He's on the cover so that was pretty apparent. The characters and plots are begining to get a bit repetitive, I hope when I'm able to find a copy of the following books they will improve.

2-0 out of 5 stars Young Jedi, An Old Dissapointment
Poorly written, a quick read..Overall the book seemed a bit rushed for my liking developing only a bit of the character relations. Also what about lukes birthday? Seems kinda odd not to celebrate the masters birthday. The book near the ending picked up abit, but it seemed the young jedi were always saved, or the luckiest people in the star wards universe, seemed like an amatuer right the battle script, so excited and not knowing where to end it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Final Showdown
Another great book.I am a new fan of the star wars books, expecially Jude Watson's series.I enjoyed this book, because it gave me a glimpse of what Anakin was like as a teenager, and his relationship to his friends.Even as a teen, it was obvious that Anakin was arrogant, buthe was ahead of his peers in so many ways. This story focuses on a group of masters and their padawans being sent on a mission. The Jedi were stretched thin. The Jedi council decide to try an experimental accelerated Jedi Knight program.Of the padawans involved, Ferus Olin is chosen to be promoted first. This of course, sends Anakin into a rage. From that point on Anakin will harass and compete with Ferus on everything.Anakins friends will see how selfish he truly is.The ending is very sad.You feel sorry for all the padawans including Anakin.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Force is once again with Jude Watson.
Wow! I LOVE this book! I liked how on Korriban you learn a little more about the sith and how it shows the power of "him". (the sith) I felt really bad for Anakin in the end, but I won't tell you what happens. Great book, I recomend it to everyone!

4-0 out of 5 stars A very good book, worth 4 1/2 stars
Though I had read the intire Young Jedi Knights series (except the final trilogy) several times, I was surprised to note as I started reading it once again that this was the only one so far that I remembered virtually nothing about. In it, Jacen and Jaina's old friend Lusa comes to the Jedi Academy desperatly seeking refuge from the Diversity Aliance, an all alien political movement bent on destroying all humans, that she was once a part of.Meanwhile, everyone continues to search for Bornan Thul who is desperately trying to evade capture from the Diversity Aliance and keep from them the information he is protecting, because if they get ahold of it, it could mean the end of humankind...Meanwhile, Raynar gets a crush on Lusa and it moves him to do something for his family while his father (Bornan Thul) is missing. He decides to go to Mechis 3 and take care of his uncles droid operation since he too seems to be missing. As you can probably guess, everyone goes with him and discovers a startling truth. In general, this was a worthy book to continue this fascinating saga that tells of the next generation of Star Wars heroes, though not the best in the series. For one thing I wish they would include Anakin more.He is my favorite of the Solo children (with Jaina as a close second) and it's not as it there is even a big age difference, he is only a year and 1/2 younger than Jacen and Jaina.Another thing that bothers me is that who exactly gave all the kids permision fly around the galaxy by themselves?Just because Tenel Ka has her own ship somehow gives EVERYONE the freedom to go where they please. This does not sound like something that protective parents like Han and Leia would allow.I myself am fifteen, the same age as the kids in this series, and I am not allowed to do these things.Oh well, it is just a book.Oh, and one more thing, I would not advise reading this book before the others in the series, because it will make absolutely no sense on it's own.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great series!!
I've been reading the Young Jedi Knights series from Book One and havealways been looking for the next one to come out!I absolutely love howthe characters have really come into their own and seem nearly real -almost like you know them! This book was not the best on I've read in theseries, but it was good and I can't wait to grab the next one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lame City Or Not
Star Wars: Galaxy of Fear "Eaten Alive" is a great mystery of trust and honesty. In the book, it shows that even though siblings can be so annoyed of each other, they can just as easily help each other out in life. These brother and sister find out how useful it is to have trust in somebody by finding out that the the people of the planet they are on not only have a secret of their own but the planet does too.I recomend this book to any reader or person who likes something that has to do with great characters, Star Wars, suspense, or great mysteries.

Greatings again to everyone!
4-0 out of 5 stars Good read but lack's detail
I gave this book a 4 because it does not cover the story in depth. But then again it was never meant to do that. To get the details, either read the junior novelization or the adult version of the book. But I got this for the color pictures from the movie. To me this tells the story much better. and there are heaps of pictures from the movie. The book gets a 5 for pictures, the layout and the flow of the story but an overall 4 for lack of detail.....

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Book
Do you like Star Wars? Well if you do you should read the book the Diversty Aliance part of the Jouner Jedi Kinghts series. Its about after the movies. Its hard to compare to any series because most of the other books are about the movies. The book the Diversty Aliance is about a group of aliens called the Diversty Aliance that are looking for a plague that can kill all human life but aliens are immune to it. There leader has sent allmost every bounty hunter to find it. I think it was a good book for ages 9-13 I read this book in 1day. I liked it because I`m a Star Wars fan and you get to read about some old charters like Han Solo And some new ones like Louwe.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good book that does credit to the series
I have always thought the first series of Young Jedi Knights (Heirs of the Force, Shadow Academy, The Lost Ones, Lightsabers, Darkest Knight, and Jedi Under Siege) to be superior to this series (Shards of Alderaan, Diversity Alliance, Delusions of Granduer, Jedi Bounty, and The Emperor's Plague) simply because the foe was a little more interesting to me, and the characters seemed a bit better fleshed out.Now that I am older however, and reading these again for the first time in several years, I have more of an open mind and I realized that this second series is in fact very good, and, while it doesn't have as much action as the first series, the character development is superb. In this book Raynar's mother calls him to come home and be with her while his father is missing. He does and is accompanied by Jacen , Jaina, Tenel Ka, and Lowie who wish to keep him company and give him moral support while he gets settled but as you can propably guess, things do not go exacly as planned, and soon they are all off on an adventure to Kuar to try and discover where Raynar's father might have gone, with the absence of Raynar, who stays with his mother.Through epic battles with giant combat arachnids and assasin droids, they begin to discover that Raynar'sfather could be hiding for more reasons than his reputation, andthat in fact there is a high probability that he is in fact hiding a secret that could destroy the galaxy...So anyway, this was a great book, though it would make more senseif you have already read all the previous books in the series, including the ones from the first series. One of the few things I don't really like that much about this series, is that everyonehas to have someone else to "like".This gets incresingly annoying as the series goes on and the kids get older. And lets face it, Raaba's only purpose of existance is so Lowie will not be left out of all this.Zekk started out that way too, but luckily he now has his own place in the Star Wars world other than The Boy Jaina Likes, so I guess there is still hope. One ofthe good things is that it only goes as far as mild crushes and never all that boyfriend/girlfriend, breaking up and all that, sothat is good thing, especially for someone like me who is not very big on romance at all, especially imature teen romance whichseems to be so popular.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth your money
If you've read all of the other books in the series, you'll enjoy reading this one.If you haven't, you may want to read "Shards of Alderaan" first. However, this book is wonderful for leading up to the rest of the Diverstiy Alliance based books. It's a lot of background setting for the rest of the series. You won't regret buying it. ... "We are writing for Children but not for Idiots." Madeline's creator was a man of strong opinions, which always makes for a fascinating life. His legacy was Madeline; however, Ludwig Bemelmanswas also a novelist, a muralist, a nonfiction writer, a screenwriter,an oil painter, and an all-around bon vivant. 4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting back stories.
I read the NJO series before reading these and so I was familiar with the characters that were introduced. Jaina and Jacen Solo appeared in other books first. It is a pretty interesting read, but of course it was ment for a teen audience. I read it in probably less than two hours total time. It wasn't ment to be too indepth. It was an introduction for the series. I'm looking forward to reading the rest. It is worth your time to read because these characters play big parts in both the NJO and Dark Nest series.

1-0 out of 5 stars I wish George Lucas had asked me to read this first...
Please know that I LOVE all things Star Wars--movies, books, figurines, articles, the website--everything.This book, on the other hand, was a dismal failure to put it positively. What it has going for it:multisyllabic words, two of four protagnoists are females, and...that's it!This book was boring! It took about 5/6 of the book to introduce the boring characters and then the horrible TIE fighter just flew away.
2-0 out of 5 stars About what you'd expect from Kevin J. Anderson.
After the atrocious Jedi academy series, and the downright silly darksabre, you would think that there would be no place to go for Kevin J. Andersons Star Wars books but up.Alas if it were only so.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but missing something.
While I did like this book there was a glaring ommission as far as I am concerned. Years before writing this book or the other Young Jedi Knight books Mr. Anderson wrote three full length novels telling about the formation of the Jedi Academy. However with a threat to the Academy by an army of dark jedi Luke makes on call for help to the older knights. No Kyp Durron, no Kenth Hammer, no Cilgal. The only two are Luke and Tionne. It is one thing to forget other author's work, but not your own. Shame on you Mr. Anderson. I would have given four stars but because of this it only gets three.

3-0 out of 5 stars Well...
While I gave the first book a good reveiw, by the time this book rolled around, I realized how silly these books are. I know they're for young adults but still...5-0 out of 5 stars excelenant

5-0 out of 5 stars The Final Installment in a Classic Series
Long before there were Littles or anyone shrunk their children, Mary Norton had written this warm and wonderful series about a race of tiny people who live hidden in quiet country houses and "borrow" their livings from the human inhabitants. Their lives depend on remaining unseen and unsuspected.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinatingly different
This book was written in 1982 as an afterthought to the earlier books (The Borrowers (1952), The Borrowers Afield (1955), The Borrowers Afloat (1959), and Poor Stainless (1966)). This follows the Clocks (Pod, Homily and Arrietty) after their escape from the Platters. Having found their way to an old rectory, the Clocks realize that they will never really be safe.5-0 out of 5 stars The Saga Continues
Just to set everyone straight, this book is NOT based on the campy, sellout movie "The Borrowers." The movie should be renounced by all true fans, as it is a badly done attempt at commercializing on MaryNorton's brilliant ideas. Anyway, "The Borrowers Avenged" waswritten more than ten years before the Borrowers movie. It continues thestory of Pod, Homily, and Arrietty, as they finally settle into an oldrectory. It raises important questions about the future--(who will Arriettymarry, Spiller or Peagreen? I tend to think Peagreen.), but as all goodNorton stories, gives you room to decide for yourself. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Jedi Quest #9
This was a good book. Palpatine starts dropping hints to Anakin, (which can get very annoying,) Astri Otto comes back in, a few older characters, and some new. The only reason I didn't rate this as a full 5 stars, is I found a typo which drove me insane. If you want to see it, when you reach it, it's on page 104, near the top. Read it carefully, and you'll see it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who said Jedi don't have a sense of humor?
This is one of my all time favorite books. I've read almost all of the star wars books, but this is the best one yet! Obi-Wan and Siri are friends, who just happen to be Jedi knights, but it dosen't stop them from acting human! This is a funny book, because Siri, who isn't a girly girl is forced to wear a dress, and Obi-Wan is supposed to be a theif! And Obi-Wan let Siri chose his wardrobe, (which turns out to be a BIG mistake!) and Anakain and Ferus somewhat get along! It's a book filled with twists and turns!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book ROCKS!!!
This the second best book in the series and I really like it!One of the best things is how Boba Fett mows down the Divirsity Alliance troops! I'll try not to give much more away exept that I think it's high time we had some romance in the series! I just think that Zekk should have kissed Jaina when he had a chance! I think it's sad that Raynar's dad died after all he went through to hide the plauge from Noala Tarkona.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a good book.
I am a fan of star wars espesially the books. This set of books is one of the best I've read so far.I like them all but I think the best part in this one is the surprise ending wich is very funny. But I think they should be read in order.Other wise your in the dark for have the book! But these books are my favorit yet.Thank you for your time.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent conclusion to the second storyline in the saga
Since I am rereading this entire series for the first time in several years I was surprised to realize I remembered almost nothing about this book despite the fact that it is the climax of the series. This does not however, in any way imply a lack of excitment. In fact it was solidly gripping from page one right to the end. This book was the last in the second cycle of Young Jedi Knights novels, and it was one of the best.It basically takes up right where the previous book left off, with the kids, now fully healed, preparing to meet withthe senet to discuss the possible threat the Diversity Alliance may be posing to all human life in the galaxy.Meanwhile Zekk goes to find Bornan Thul and takes Raynar with him because Raynar is Bornan's son and he would be more likely to trust him if he is with him. They discover the human plague secret so Leia sends them (Zekk, Bornan, Raynar, Jacen, Jaina, Lowie, and Tenel Ka) on a mission to go and try to destroy the plague storehouse before the Diversity Aliance can get to it anddestroy all human's with it.The rest of the book is an intense account of their adventures trying to accomplish this goal, but as to whether they succeed or not, well, you'll just have to readthe book, because I'm not telling!I will say though, that it has several unexpected twists, one of which is very sad.One of the few problems with this book is that Leia would knowingly send her children on such a dangerous mission.Despite the fact that they are almost full Jedi Knights, that doesn't change the fact that they are her children, and I don't believe any parent would willingly send their child into such mortal danger. My parants definitely wouldn't!I must admit, I am getting slightly less resentful ofall these irritating little couples that are forming (Jacen and Tenel Ka, Jaina and Zekk, Lowie and Raaba, and of course Lusa andRaynar).Jacen and Tenal Ka are funny and interesting, and I have no objections to them liking each other, and Lowie and Raaba are plausible, though boring.Jaina and Zekk are hugely boring though, and Lusa and Raynar are completly implausible. Even so, this was not overpoweringly bad, so I guess I really have nothing to complain about really. In short, this is an excellent series of Star Wars books that are better even then some regular books I've read, and certainly more exciting. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great plot twist
It was a very exciting book because it was a mystery and there were more than one murderers. I thought the character devolopment was very well done. The story was worked out very well and the plot had the a very interesting twist that occurred at the ending.

5-0 out of 5 stars HELPPP
I can't belive what happined In this book .Uncle hoole and zaksoposledly died from a haunted library that tash found . tash is devestasted . Forceflow is not who he is soposed to be . rent thisbook today.

4-0 out of 5 stars Something you'll read again and again . . .
This book is a treasure to keep forever. On every page, a surprise awaits. However, I only gave it four stars instead of five. When Tash finally enters the "Jedi Library," the ghost roars at her to"GET OUT!".I do not like this line because many books andmovies have that very same line. For example in the movie "TheShining," a character uses those very words. In other words, thatline was lame. The line should have been in that same tone, I agree, butthe actual words were . . . just too simple.Maybe John Whitman shouldhave described the aura in the library a little more.Anyway, other thanthis part, the story was an excellent, well written piece. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great for people who are familiar with STAR WARS books.
What is "Spore?"It's something beyond your imagination! When I read this, I couldn't believe what I was reading--I had never thought of something like "Spore."When you read about this, you'll probably be just as shocked as I was. This book is full of surprises.Iwould recommend this book for children under 11 years old, simply becauseolder kids might be slightly bored by it, although this book has few flaws.

Zac and Tash are on their home planet, but they had to leav quickley because the planet was going to be blown up by the death star, a weapen created by the empire. Zac Tash and their uncle Hoole were put on a transporter to get to the nearest planet. The planet was called City of the Dead. They went to the planet to buy a star ship, but while on the planet Zac made some friends and to get into the club. 4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but could have been better
This book was okay, though definitly not the best in the series. The writing was good and discriptive, though it didn't grab me in quite the same way as the first trilogy did, or even as the two books before this one did.To me, it seemed that this whole book was a rehash of the previus one.It had practicly the same plot, except Uldir finally went just a little to far.And they had to bring the Orloc guy back.I don't think he is a very good villian, because he is too unsure of himself, and he doesn't even have any real powers. His very presence insults the intelligence of the characters, and the fact that all of them are jedi, or at least jedi trainees except Uldir.Like I said, the writing was good, and the characters well developed, even if the plot was less than perfect. And despite it's flaws, I greatly enjoyed reading it, and intend to do so again.Definitly best for children twelve and under.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for young Star Wars fans
This book is a very entertaining read for anyone familiar with the Star Wars movies. The book definitely gives a clear description of what life in the Star Wars galaxy is all about. The Jr. Jedi knights are the books that started my passion for reading four years ago. This is definitely a musthave for any young reader.

4-0 out of 5 stars I liked it--plain and simple.
I won't say much because it'll ruin the entire story. But this is a wonderful book to read for all Star Wars fans.I highly recommend it ... Read more
