4-0 out of 5 stars Buy Boomer's Big Day
I would recommend this book for six to ten-year-old readers. Constance W. McGeorge wrote this book with creativity to allow children to enjoy the story. The children would enjoy the way Boomer is the main character and his thoughts are told in the book. Boomer is a friendly golden retriever who becomes confused when his family is moving. Boomer cannot understand why everything is disappearing from his house when he woke up one morning.

5-0 out of 5 stars A pet lover's aid to moving day
Although we were not moving very far, I wanted to prepare my 3 year old with a book to which she could relate.Because we are animal lovers with a dog like Boomer, this book helped my child understand what was going on in her life. The book is told through a narrator in the dog's point of view. The illustrations are also at "dog-eye level."I looked at other books, but this one met my needs the most, becauseit tells the tale in a vantage point similar to my child's.My daughter is too young to really resist moving, but she didnt' "get" the idea that everything she owned would be coming with us and that the new house would be just as good if not better than the old.Boomer tells the story from a confused beginning to a happy ending once he discovers his new house has wonderful things for him to do and new friends to make.I highly recommend this book to help your little one's moving day transition.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for little kids!
This book is a wonderful book about a golden retriever who know's it will not be a regular day! More and More boxes appear in the house, and less and less things appear in the house and are put in moving vans! Will Boomer like his new home? This is a great book to read to kids who are moving and don't wanna leave! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars P.S. Longer Letter Later
This book is about two friends. But one of the girls Tara, has to move away with her parents. She is very sad. That she has to leave the person she can relay on and trust. Tara is the wild and crazy one, who is very outgoing. Always streaking her hair or getting something pierced. Her parents are very young and immature so she is annoyed with them and the other girl Elizabeth can always help her. Elizabeth is very timid and doesn't ever want to be the center of attention, which is the opposite of Tara. That is why I think they get along hence the saying opposites attract. Elizabeth is also the perfect one, meaning she has two parents who are very steady and reliable and a sister. She lives in a big house and has lots of money. Unlike Tara who lives in a small apartment with her mom and dad but she calls them Barb and Luke. Both of her parents have to work.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ps. Longer Letter Later.
My Book was Ps. Longer Letter Later. Paula Danziger and Ann martin did a really good job on laying this book out. It's written in a form of two pen pals that happen to be best friends, Tara and Elisabeth. These two girls have known each other for a long time and when one moves away to Ohio, they decide they would keep in touch by writing each other letters back and forth. They write about their friends, family, school, crushes and explain their "new" lives apart from each other. When Tara has some problems with her family they work together to sought out the problem. Elisabeth is one of those shyer girls who doesn't get that much attention, but deals with it. Tara is one of the "hyper, preppy-popular" girls that will do anything to be the center of attention. Sometimes I ask my self how these two opposite girls came to be best friends. They go through totally different problems, one of the girls could be struggling over guys while the other girl struggles with her teacher giving her a 98 instead of a 100. I love how it's just an all around good book about typical teenage drama. Everything said in this book I had no problem believing because I knew what was happening the entire time. I was surprised that it is written by an adult. I would defiantly recommend this book, especially to the teens who love a fiction "dramatic" story about an average teenage girl. :)

The sassy title tells readers right away that this book is NOT like one of those hideous books where the mother dies, even if fifteen-year-old Ruby's mom has recently succumbed to cancer. 5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THOSE HIDEOUS BOOKS WHERE THE MOTHER DIES
Picture this scene-Your mother dies. She was your best friend, your shoulder to lean on, your ear always ready to listen is no longer with you. And if that wasn't enough, you're whisked away to the other end of North America to live with your absentee father, who believe it or not, is internationally known actor Whip Logan. This scene is identical to the one braved by Ruby Milliken. Follow Ruby as she has to overcome hurdles that not many imagine. Hurdle 1) Getting over her mothers death. 2) Trying to adapt to her new school where teachers asked to be called Feather and school girls that dress like they just came out of a Victoria Secret magazine. 3) Trying not to miss her best friend Lizzie and her boyfriend Ray who are all the way in Boston when she's stuck in LA. 4) Trying to get used to the fact that living with her father makes her RICH. 5) Debating whether to forgive Ray and Lizzie for going out with each other. 6) Forgiving her dad for not being in her life for 15 years. 7) Trying to get over the fact that her father is gay. Can she come out of the race victorious or will she fall and fail?
5-0 out of 5 stars fun free-verse novel
After her mother dies, Ruby is dragged 3,000 miles across the country to live with her father, whom she has only seen on the big screen. She has to leave her best friend, aunt, and best friend behind in Boston and go to L.A., where they give tickets for crossing the street. She is determined to give her father the cold shoulder-- after all, he did ignore her for fifteen years, but she befriends his assisstant, which is some comfort. Her new school is like the biggest game of charades ever, and she's not sure where she fits in, but it's certainly not in Dream Interpreting class, where she can never remember any of her dreams. It takes a natural disaster-- an earthquake, to be exact-- for Ruby to realize where, exactly, she fits in.This book, despite the title, is not at all hideous or sad.In true Sonya Sones style, it is funny, touching, and written in free verse.

5-0 out of 5 stars The worst thing that could happen to a 15 year old
The book One of Those Hideous Books where the Mother Dies by Sonya Sones was great. It is a fictional story about a 15-year-old girl named Ruby. This book was told by Ruby in poem form about her life, feelings, thoughts, and actions. The story is about how she has to leave her friends and aunt and move more then three thousand miles away to live with her dad because her mom died.

4-0 out of 5 stars The saddest of all the other Polk Street books
It's summer vacation and school's out but Richard, Matthew and a handful of other kids have summer school. Richard is depressed. Mrs. Paris, his reading teacher gives him good advice on how to handle changes and things he doesn't like. Then Richard's friend Matthew says that he is moving to Ohio. Matthew doesn't want to go and Richard fixes up a place for Matthew to live in his garage. It's a good book with a non-saccarine ending. There are a lot of good messages to the readers, such as it is okay to cry. That's the best advice! I think I cried when I read this about Richard's best buddy Matthew moving away and although it seems an un-satisfying ending to this book, be sure to check out the other Polk Street books, and there are two books about Matthew's adventures in his new town, Deposit, Ohio ("Matthew Jackson Meets The Wall" and "Shark In School"--both delightful!) Beast and Matthew stay in touch even across time and distance!! ... Read more

Editorial Review

"As soon as I finish this chocolate pudding, I'm going to jump out the window." Twelve-year-old Anastasia Krupnik has just discovered that her parents are planning a move to the suburbs. And she happens to know that people in the suburbs do not have meaningful paintings on their walls. They have paint-by-numbers pictures of kittens with big eyes playing with balls of yarn. And in the place of bookcases they have giant TV sets with bowls of fake fruit on top. One look at their future house in the suburbs, however, and Anastasia falls in love. It's not long before she's meeting the neighbors, including a handsome tennis player and a witch named Gertrude Stein. And it takes hardly any time at all before she's immersed in justthe kind of complicated messes that she seems to specialize in. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars An overall good book leaves us wanting more
Anastasia Again is the sequel to Anastasia Krupnik, and the prequel to Anastasia, at this address, Anastasia at your service, etc. Anastasia Krupnik is upset when she learns she has to move with her parents to the suburbs. The only way she will accept the move is if she can live in a tower. When her parents FIND a house with a tower, she has no choice but to accept the move. With her faithful goldfish Frank, this book makes you want to run out and buy the next book. I give it 4 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Such a sweet story
This is one of those books that should win a Newbury Award Medal because of the character development. The friendship that Anastasia develops with the neighbor lady is wonderful, as well as Sam, but I will save that surprise for when you read the book. It has another one of Lois Lowry's beloved twists of plot that surprises you. Plus, it has all these great jokes about what suburbs are supposedly like. If you like Anastasia, you MUST pick up this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Anastasia Again Book Reiview
Anastasia Again is about a girl that is in the 6th grade and moves to the suburbs. She moves because her apartment is getting too small since her mom is a painter and needs a studio and her dad is a writer and needs bookshelves. Anastasia is 12 and her brother Sam is still a baby. Her father Mr. Krupnik asks what everybody wants in their new house. Anastasia said, "how about a tower for my bedroom". She thought if she asked for something so outrageous she would not have to leave her home and her friends. To Anastasia's surprise, one day they went out to look at the new house and there was a tower on it where Anastasia's room was going to be. They moved in and Sam saw a lady next door and said that she looks like a witch. Anastasia is curious of what Sam saw because she did not believe him. She goes over to the neighbor's house to see if she really does look like a witch. Sam wants to go so they go over there with the excuse to get a pitcher cause their mom wants to make ice tea. So they go over but Sam hid behind a bush at the front door. You'll have to read the book to see what happens next. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Out of Print? Tragedy!
I first read this book when I was in 8th or 9th grade and was enjoying social leperdom at my high school. I think it is one of the most absorbing, accurate fictional accounts of teenage life ever written. In the past 15 or 16 years, I've read this book at least 10 times, and it never gets old. Our herione, Chelsea, is new in town and is in the throes of teenage-itis. She hates her mom, she's trying to dress punk, she's trying to keep her head down at her new school . . . but then beautiful, untouchable Ashley Packard singles her out for friendship, and so begins Chelsea's battle to not lose herself in Ashley's pretentious and even dangerous social world. With some help from her offbeat friend Pod, she may stand a chance of graduating from high school with her integrity intact.
5-0 out of 5 stars Princess Ashley
Chelsea Olinger moved to a new school as a sophomore, with the intentions of getting by unnoticed. It became nearly impossible when she met a girl named Ashley Packard, who she believed to be the most amazing person she had ever come across.Chelsea admired everything about her, and wanted to be just like her.Maybe a little bit too much like her.Chelsea's mother tried to warn her that Ashley was only a fake, but it was up to Chelsea to find out the truth and realize who her true friends were!
5-0 out of 5 stars Almost without flaws
A very powerful, true-to-life book about the world teenagers live in. This is such a good read. It's insightful, thought-provoking, humorous, grim, and well-written. One book for adolescents that should definitely not be overlooked. I'm glad I discovered it when I was still in my teens. ... Read more

It's not every day that your kids look more forward to a book than the television, so I'm writing in just to say this book so mesmerized and captivated my audience, three little girls, that, as far as I'm concerned, it's perfect. So, get it for your kids, mine are between 5 and 10,(I suspect boys'll like it, too) and be glad that there's something out there that grabs their attention and holds it better than the television.

5-0 out of 5 stars A lesson about change
This is a gentle tale about a woodland community who must find a new home because of encroaching urban development upon their land.It is a story about small creatures who must be brave and seek out a new safe place for themselves, despite the unknowns ahead.4-0 out of 5 stars Cute
A cute little story with an underlying environmental message. My 4 year old daughter likes this one a lot.

Bill Peet worked for Disney animating such classics as 101 Dalmations. His "solo" work, however, eclipses his contributions to Disney's films.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars great book for all
This is such a wonderful series about a boy who moves from New York to a small town. He is vegetarian and other kids tease him but he ends up making a special friend, a girl with a big immagination. My son is a vegetarian and so am I. I think this book is great for kids on both sides, whether they are a vegetarian or not, to learn to respect peoples choices.
5-0 out of 5 stars Aldo, you're my hero!
i have loved this book since i first read it 15 years ago!i could relate to Aldo, being a military brat, and his quest for new friends in a new "world"...i had that book memorized!it was my absolute favorite..and Dede was the greatest sidekick ever! if you are looking for a great book for a kid, this is the one to get!and i think adults wouldlove it too...i know i would love to read it again!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is an exciting book - and I mean exciting!
Hi!I am a kid in third grade.I live in the U.S.A.I give this book five stars because it is very exciting and I mean exciting!I recommend this book for a 7-8 year old.For grown ups, it's probably boring for them.Maybe they will think it's childish. The main character is Aldo. Another character is Dede. She is cool and funny. The mean guy is the onewho calls him names like applesauce, baby, and big fat baby.So hopefullyyou people can read this story.Aldo is 8 years old.Aldo has brown hairand so does Dede.On the cover there is 7 people and one guy throwing anegg to a different boy.To the people who have not read this book, can youplease give it a try? It's really good. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Don't look now but there's an elf in that tree!
A sweet little tale about friendship and magic and faith. Willa's new friend Hazel brought me back to an elderly neighbor in my own childhood who tended a wild garden and seemed to be in touch with her own woodland sprites. If you believe in fairies, or perhaps if you don't, this book is a "must read".

5-0 out of 5 stars The Fairies of Nutfolk Wood
I loved this book!Readers will enjoy the easy pace which encourages page-turning as the story's heroine, Willa, unravels the mystery of whether or not magic exists in her woods.Willa's world has totally turned upside down with her parents' divorce, then relocation with her mother.Dealing with emerging fears and feelings, Willa finds new friends (perhaps more than she knows about) who help her find her place in the world once again.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great
My son (9) and I read this aloud together and both loved it.It's a hopeful book about life after divorce, without really being about the divorce. If you liked "Because of Winn Dixie" you'll love this book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book - Presumably in Either Edition
My daughter (almost 3) enjoyed this book from the library last Halloween & we're looking forward to reading it again this Halloween.I loved introducing her to Halloween from a book that emphasized friendship and generosity among neighbors, rather than scary monsters, pranks, or candy. The illustrations were lovely.I'm sure the original edition had beautiful illustrations too, and the previous reviewer might have been chagrinned by the changes to a personal childhood favorite. But I'm guessing that most people who, like my family, discover the story for the the first time in this edition will find nothing amiss.

5-0 out of 5 stars A happy Halloween story - -especially for your wee, shy ones
Diana Cain Bluthenthal's brightly-colored illustrations bring Charlotte Zolotow's A Tiger Called Thomas to life once again--just in time for its 40th anniversary.Charlotte Zolotow's classic is a sad but sweet tale of a shy, preschool-aged boy's move into a new neighborhood-a neighborhood where he's afraid no one will like him.1-0 out of 5 stars I WANT MY ORIGINAL PICTURES!!!
I mean, come on. The pictures in the original 1973 version of the book were beautiful, it was, like in many childrens' stories, half of the enjoyment. But no...buy the original somewhere else. They've just messed an otherwise great book up. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Read it in middle school and still remember it
I am currently in college and read this book in the 6th grade and loved it. Initially, I picked it up thinking it would be a cool science fiction book. I was half wrong. Science fiction, no. Cool, yes. The storyline is amazing, very realistic plot and characters. Just a great book to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Only Alien on the Planet
Of all the books I have read in my life, and that's quite a lot, this may be my favorite book of all time! It's about a boy named Smitty who was abused in his life so badly he refused to talk to anyone until he met Ginny. Ginny thought that she loved the boy she lived next too, but she never realized she loved someone else until that person almost left her life for good. She helped Smitty go around this emotional block. When I picked it up, I first thought that it would be a science-fiction book, but boy was I suprised. I still like it more than most books I've read, but I don't think that I will ever truely understand it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST BOOK EVER!
I think this book should get more than 5 stars, more like 20! This is my #1 book! i loved it. It was amazing how Ginny could change Micheal (Smitty), a boy who hasn't talked for 13 years! also, i was amazed how Micheal stood up to his brother for the last time. I stayed up all night just to read this book. This was amazing! This is the BEST BOOK EVER! I'm going to email Kristen D. Randle about this book, to ask her if she made a sequal of it, or is going to. I LOVED THIS BOOK! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A hilarious sequel to the Hoboken Chicken Emergency!
Looking for Bobowicz is another great Daniel Pinkwater book, the first sequel to the Hoboken Chicken Emergency (another 5 star book). After their Classic Comics books are stolen by a Phantom, three kids take on the challenge of hunting down the Phantom -- and discover that all the adults in town go mum whenever they ask about it.Along the way, they meet a crazy librarian, Meehan the bum, and a pirate radio DJ named Vic Trola...(And learn about great literature!) Also, check out the next book in the series - The Artsy Smartsy Club.
