Editorial Review

Annie Bananie is one of a kind. Along with her best friend and pet porcupine, Annie Bananie terrorizes the neighborhood, swings from the clothesline, and is transformed from Ann from outer space to the lovely Princess Annie Ba-nanie. So when this redheaded live wire has to move, her best friend is completely bereft: "Annie Bananie, / Do you think it's good / Leaving your whole neighborhood?... How can you just go away? / What about my sixth birthday?" Bravely, her friend tries to make the best of the situation, encouraging Annie Bananie to make new friends and try to write. But most importantly, she wants Annie Bananie to remember that she will "never ever ever / Never ever / Ever / Never / find another friend like me." Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Annie Bananie
I think it was very sad because Annie Bananie was moving away from her best friend. Anyway I loved this book. It got down to my heart. And thats what a good book is all about. I loved this book more than anyone could. Not that many people like Annie Bananie but I love it so much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bookmobile best seller
Annie Bananie is the narrator's best friend. They have wild times together, parading around dressed up as queens and tickling bumblebees. But Annie is moving away, and the narrator mourns her departure by reminding her of all the good times they've had together. This is a funny, yet sad story of a kind loss that many kids must face at a young age when they are just making friends for the first time.It is a best seller on the local bookmobile. It has about 200 words.

5-0 out of 5 stars Accepting Change
That has never been one of my strong points. But it seems to suddenly hit DJ hard with her grandmother's marriage and her mother with a boyfriend, the good thing coming out of this all is that DJ will finally own her own horse. Through DJ's experiences, and how she feels about everything going on around her, you can help and apply it to your life. I would have to see DJ as a heroine after reading this book for accepting change is something really hard for some people to accept. Me included. But let's face it, nothing goes on forever, and though DJ wishes it could be the same, she knows it will never be again. That takes courage. She also proves in this book that she can be responsible for Major and will do whatever it takes to take the best care of him. If I am ever fortunate to own a horse of my own anytime soon, I could only wish to be as responsible as DJ. She isn't always responsible, but hey, nobody's perfect. And she's so normal that you can't help but think she's the bolder version of you. A book in the series not to be missed.

5-0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable and funny mystery
It's the worst summer of 11-year-old Jillian's life. She and her mother have moved to a New York apartment from their house in Pennsylvania to live with Jillian's new stepfather and a mean stepsister, Mariella. Jillian misses her home and friends, and yearns for her father, who died a few years ago.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This is a good book I've read it twice. I like how Ann used handwriting in this book instead of type it was great! It was like a real diary. Dawn mostly writes about changing buildings at school, her family and her california friends. What I didn't like about this book is that Dawn never mentioned her BSC friends its like the everoprated into thin air. She only mentions Mary Anne a couple of times. Also theres a part in this book were they think Jill is babyish just coz she wants to look in the pet shop what the? I'm 19 and still love looking in the pet shop. And whats wrong with Jill liking that kind of stuff they are only 13 for crying out loud not 18!. The part were they snuck off to the party was great. And its great Ann finally had something about this. And it was annoying how they thought that Jill was a baby just coz she didnt want to sneak out and diaspoint her parents. This is a good book.

4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT FIRST BOOK OF CA DIARIES!!!
This book is the first book in the California Diaries series. For those who don't know, it's about thirteen-year-old Dawn Schafer who is facing many changes in her life, including her Dad's new relationship with stepmum Carol, her move to the high-school building in school, and friendship changes. In this book, Dawn and her friends Sunny, Maggie and Jill get invited to a party thrown by eleventh and twelfth graders after their move to the high-school building. They debate whether to go to the party and ditch Jill's sleepover. They go, but whenthey arrive they know something isn't right. Sunny drinks alcohol without realising it and gets sick, and the party is held in a backyard of a house with no one home. When the police get called from a neighbour complaining about the noise level, the party breaks up quickly. Dawn, Maggie, AMALIA (new friend in 8th grade at the party) and Sunny get a lift home with a reliable high-school boy named DUCKY. They get back to Jill's house where Jill is furious. Towards the end of the book, Dawn, Sunny and Maggie break away from Jill, whom they think is too babyish.
1-0 out of 5 stars What Happened to Dawn?!
I love the Baby-sitters Club Series, and Dawn is my favorite baby-sitter, so I decided to try the California Diaries Series about Dawn and her friends in California. So I checked out DAWN, California Diary #1. It was terrible, absolutely terrible, and it made me very upset. Everything is Dawn, Dawn, Dawn, Dawn this, Dawn that. It is filled with some very inappropriate things. The Baby-sitters Club Series is NEVER like that. In this book, I also found words I'm not allowed to say. I was so ashamed of this book that I just stopped reading it. If you could rate books, this would be PG-13, so don't even THINK about buying this novel for a ten-year-old. I am very frustrated with this volume. How can you do this to my favorite baby-sitter, Ann M. Martin?! :-( ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fresh, Funny Story for Kids of All Ages
There has never been a dragon like Madam Yang, and I can't believe there ever will be again.Such verve, such attitude, such sense of humor (even when she's overdosed on toasted marshmellows!) She has to be the most believable and likeable dragon in storytelling history. 5-0 out of 5 stars Dragon book is hot stuff!!!
We took this book on a long car trip and took turns reading it aloud to the kids.I wish it had been a book on tape, because we couldn't put it down.We even read it in restaurants.Way wacky and zany, it is laugh out loud funny. That dragon -- Madam Yang -- sure is hot stuff!

5-0 out of 5 stars Salvadore has feelings for Elizabeth
Salvadore still has his foot in a cast after slipping on the floor at the dance. He starts to have feelings for Elizabeth, and when he hears that Blue and Elizabeth kissed in front of the coffee machine,Sal kisses Elizabeth. Mr.Wakefield makes an announcement that he gets a promotion at work, but it's in Salt Lake City,Utah. The Wakefields might be moving to Utah.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
This book was one of the best I've read in the series! It made me laugh and even get teary-eyed.One thing I think is interesting about it is how it repeats a subject used in previous books.Elizabeth is supposed to be dating Blue, but kisses Salvador, just like how Salvador was supposed to be with Elizabeth, but kissed Anna.Another thing not mentioned on the back of this book is an unpleasent surprise...the Wakefields are moving to Utah! How will this mess turn out?Find out in the 30th and final book, "Too Many Good-Byes".If you like Babysitters' Club, Luna Bay, Mary-Kate & Ashley, or the Lizzie McGuire books, it's almost a guarentee that you'll enjoy this series!

5-0 out of 5 stars 2 Twins + Utah= Trouble
This book is by far my fave SVJH Book! Everything is running smooth with the twins...until a roadblock that could change their lives forever hits...their dad got offered a job in Utah! Jessica and Elizabeth can't believe it and they have to find out a way to tell their friends...Liz finally breaks down and tells Sal and Anna. But Jess doesn't tell anyone. But when Liz goes over to Salvadors...something happens. And when she tells Blue...uh oh that could definitley screw up a relationship. I definitley recommend this book! I loved it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Real Life People
When I read this book as a child in the late 1960s, I didn't even know it took place in the 40s.You can't help but feel for Amy-- the new kid on the block. She's sweet, but flawed-- so anxious for cool friends that she doesn't seem to stand up for any principles-- unlike her older sister, Laura-- the "smart one."The book is full of warmth, adventure, good humor, and realistic family situations-- it remains one of the most memorable books of my childhood. The "spinoff" books were equally engaging-- "Laura," "Amy and Laura," and "Veronica Ganz" especially.

5-0 out of 5 stars WHY is this out of print??
In my opinion, this book (along with Laura's Luck and Amy and Laura) is a children's classic, so why it is no longer in print is a mystery to me. I read this when I was in grade school in the 1970s and I found it wonderfully exotic. Imagine going to the convenience store to get penny candy and long pretzels out of a barrel! Imagine having a mother who looks like Joan Crawford (and this is considered a compliment!). The depiction of the Bronx during wartime is absolutely charming-- it's not the rough, slighlty seedy Bronx that one thinks of today.5-0 out of 5 stars An absolute joy - Amy Moves In
This was my favorite book of all time in fourth grade and still it remains#1 on my favorite books list after some years after fourth grade. It wasthe first book that I read by Marilyn Sachs, and that might explain why itis so good.As a nine-year-old kid way after Mrs. Sachs first wrotethis, I could sympathize with Amy. Amy was a scrawny nothing (I was prettyskinny myself at nine) who was nine years old and had an older sister whoshe adored, and loved to imagine things. But that was where our similaritesended. I was more of a Laura fan, who spent her time reading books andsometimes had to go and save her sister from prospective bullies. But Amystill remains my favorite. Forty years after her publication, Amy Moves Inwill remain a great book despite its out-of-print. She might be a"goner" now, since there's some kids who will never read her, butthose who did - they know she's an absolute joy. ... Read more
