GreatHistorically-Accurate Prairie Adventure for Kids
This book shows the real west from a kids point of view.The good, the bad, and the ugly all mixed in with the sensitivity of an author who has roots in the area. I enjoyed the book tremendously and it revealed many new aspects of the prairie life that CLint Eastwood movies failed to mention.Its a refreshingly frank view of the real hardships on the prairie that gives me even more respect for the grit and determination of the early settlers.It was clearly well researched and fact based.More importantly, since its targeted to kids - I gave this book to my nieces and nephews as a Christmas gift.They couldn't put it down and were asking for 'the rest of the story' which Ms Seely provides in Last of the Roundup Boys.

A Reasonable Good Book
This book was a good read, but there were also disappointments. Myself, living in Kansas, I felt the reader was some how putting Kansas down, from the boy's point of view. I suppose I don't really like what it was like back then, but, as a Kansas citizen, I am proud to live here in the vast prairies, and flat lands. To me, it seemed like Thomas' father only wanted him to come live with him, because he needed another farm hand around the place. In this short story, two young children also die. Thomas' half baby brother, from whooping cough, and a neighbor girl, who was only three, and got lost on the prairie. I guess in this day and age, we don't like to think about the bad things in life, and are not use to it when it comes to reading stories. Read more

Who is the RichestKid in Town!!
In this story there are 2 boys named Peter 111 and Wishbone 111.They try to make money by mowing lawns,duck races,and making a great lounge.They both are tring to buy different things.Peter is tring to buy a ticket to go see his old friend Tommy.Wishbone is wanting to just get money.This is why I chose this book.It is....AWESOME!!!

Very simple story
This is not a classic...but a good, simple tale.Both the text and illustrations are pretty basic.A little girl is missing her best friend but finds a new one.My daughter (4) is reassured by it, after having her own best friend move away.

I don't know why books now have to be so big, with so many big illustrations...and so few words! A book of feelings
My class loved it.The class is well below reading level and despite the difficult words they were motivated to find out what happened next to Jaime. They had empathy for him being a new student unable to speak the language because at one point my students were there. The descriptions and characters were so real, yet their was this imagination piece which kept them going. It led to many discussions about feelings, new students, frustration, and confusion. Entertaining ghostly read
Jenny Joslin, her sister Allie, and their father have moved from place to place ever since their mother died. They now have moved to Crescent Lane, and Jenny instantly feels like she is at home. But, things aren't as they appear; she and her sister see a ghost they call the "moonlight man" in their new backyard. Soon after that, Jenny and Allie encounter a sequence of paranormal events. A great book
I was fourteen when I read this book. I am now 22, and the impression that this book left with me is still fresh. I would not advise someone under the age of tweleve to read this book. It's a seamlessly weaved tale where the heroine, Miranada, is well prepared by the recent events in her life to take on this mystery. Even so, it is an intense mystery. Although it is a "children's" book, Dorthy's murder is awful. It is necessary to explain why her character is not at rest, but it leaves a haunting impression with the reader long after the book is over.

Hard to Believe This is a Young Adult Novel!
I happen to like all sorts of books--children's books, young adults, fiction, non-fiction, biographies, even the classics!A well-written book appeals to all ages.Look at the HARRY POTTER phenomena...................I for one admit to being passionate about those fabulous books and I am far removed from a young adult (middle aged if you must know).

Extremely well written novel that illustrates today' Hawaii
I reside in Hawaii and happened to read this book. My boyfriend and I finished reading this book in one day! It's a page-turner that shows many aspects of today's Hawaii. The story includes not only Kate's struggle to identify her heritage as a half-Hawaiian born and raised in California, but also tells the sovereign history that was overthrown, the multi-ethnicity complex society, the true meaning of Hula dance, and the traditional Hawaiian family value etc. The author reveals the essence of the cultural and political issues in Hawaii in a very sophisticated manner yet simple. This book is a great reading for any youth but I also recommend for adults who are interested in Hawaii. This can be a very informative book for multicultural education as well.

Resonates with the importance of learning about oneself
Dance For The Aina by Clemence McLaren is an engaging novel about Kate Kahele, a 12 year old girl who feels out of place in Hawaii, and longs to be in California again even though her lawyer father and surfer brother are eager to experience their new home state. "Ophie" is a funny book about Ophie Peeler and her journeys through friendship. When moving to a new town, she finds herself stuck with a girl called Britney instead of the TV girls, who are popular and star in TV commercials. When one day she finds out that a present from her dad will make the TV girls talk to her, she breaks off her friendship with Britney to be popular. Finally she realizes what a true friend is- someone who likes you as you are (Britney), not someone who likes you for your belongings.

Moving Again Mom is right on the money!
Moving Again Mom is just what I needed to assure my youngest daughter that she is not alone. It is a wonderful story that focuses on moving as a positive experience. She is having a ball using her best friend pen that we made to mimic the one in the book to keep in touch with her best friend Kelly.
