5-0 out of 5 stars une livre fantastique!
If you know some French, even just a little bit, then you should not miss this book! The stories are from the perspective of a mischievious young French boy, and his observations and ideas will make you roll with laughter. The stories themselves are excellent, but in my opinion it is the way they are told that makes the book a real gem of comedy. The Petit Nicolas books are helpful for those learning or brushing up on French.I'd say that anyone who has completed a French class in high school or college should have enough knowledge of the language to appreciate this book.If you're one of those like me who has forgotten a lot of French, then I recommend reading it with a French dictionary handy...it is worth the effort!Recommended highly for those who like to laugh and have at least a basic reading knowledge of French.

5-0 out of 5 stars You will laugh your head off and never want to put it down!
This book is by far the best book in the "Le Petit Nicolas" series. It humorously captures all of the little (and big) things that make travelling with children such a tiring and hilarious adventure. Thefunniest chapter is called "La Plage, c'est chouette" and I havenever laughed so hard as when I read the chapter. The vocab wasn't tootricky and I would recommend this book to anyone learning French or anyonewho knows French. C'est tres interessant, et moi, je l'aime. Et je penseque vous allez aimer "Les vacances du Petit Nicolas"! Achetez-leaujourd'hui! Buy it today!

5-0 out of 5 stars An absolutely hilarious book.
This is a wonderful collection of humorous stories about Nicolas and hisfriends while he is on vacation.Set at a hotel and then a summer camp,Sempe and Goscinny managed to continue the success of the other PetitNicolas series. The French isn't very complex, so this is a good book toread while you are learning. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to Goldilocks
My toddler loves reading "Ricitos de Oro," and now "reads" it to herself using the different voices of the bears. The translation isn't perfect, but it is a nice simple story. As she is getting older, she is curious to hear the story in English and Spanish, so it is nice to have both versions on the same page.

3-0 out of 5 stars Reply to incorrect translation
I just read a review of this book saying that "high" was incorrectly translated to "dura" and "low" to "blanda". I have this book and noticed that the author does not use high and low to describe the chairs in English but uses "hard" and "soft", which are translated correctly to Spanish using the adjectives "dura" and "blanda".4-0 out of 5 stars My 3 year old calls it E-Locks
My 3 year old asks me to read this over and over again. He loves to here the voices of the respective bears Mama, Papa or Baby bear.It is concisely written and easy for someone with a moderate understanding ofSpanish to read. My only criticism is that part of the translation isincorrect. "High" is translated as "dura". and"low" is translated as "blanda".These translationsare both incorrect. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Teaching Tool...
The big thing in my house right now is Dora.My 19 month old daughter got hooked on it because of the boys at the babysitters that watch it. Since I've been wanting to teach her the concept of opposites, I figured what a great book to start with since it's Dora. The other bonus is that all of the English words have the Spanish word with it.As far as I'm concerned that's enough to get a five star rating from me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
This book was a great purchase. My daughter loves dora and with this book i can teach her about the opposites in spanish.I'm always looking for books in spanish to teach my little girl.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for teaching Spanish Vocabulary, not a story book
This is a good book for teaching children words in Spanish. It also did help my daughter in general with the concepts of opposites. It is not a story book though. It basically will tell you BIG/GRANDE on one page and SMALL/PEQUENO on the other. If you want a story book, this is not it.If your goal is to help encourage understanding of opposites and some Spanish vocabulary for the 2-4 set, this is a good book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
This is an excellent book to start French on.It is easy to understand and the glossary at the back practically provides every single word you would come across in this book. The workbook is also excellent because the answers for self tests are at the back. The sections are divided very well into Vocab, structure, conversation, pronounciation, culture knowledge, different places in the world, and chapter review.Again, it's one of the best books out there for French beginners.

4-0 out of 5 stars Some thoughts
I am a student at Moscow State Pedagogical University. I study twolanguages English and French. When I graduate this University I amplanning to be a French language teacher. I have bought this bookbecause I have a friend who is a middle school student in USA. Heasked me to help him with his French over email. He also told me thatthey are using this book in class/ This was a very interesting andchallenging task for me. So once I have got the book I've startedanalyzing it. In this review I would like to share the results of myWork with... shoppers who might want to purchase this book.4-0 out of 5 stars A useful tool for those learning French
In my French 1 Class, we used this book and its companion workbook.I found it to be very useful, and an enhancement to my learning experience.I think that --by far-- the most useful feature of Bienvenue! are the French-English and English-French indices in the back.If you weren't completely sure what something said, it was easy as tourte to look it up. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice!
I almost didn't get this book and CD because of the reviews here, but I'm glad that I did get it. Perhaps the negative reviews are from the cassett version, because the CD is very good. The singing is nice, clearly understandable, and the music is very pleasant.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very cute
We have adopted a Vietnamese child and are exposing him to the language. At the suggestion of a Vietnamese friend we bought the Sing and Learn Vietnamese book and CD. Our son loves the vocals and the music. My Vietnamese friend said the singer is very popular in the Vietnamese community.

1-0 out of 5 stars If you enjoy fingernails scraping across a chalkboard...
...then I recommend "Sing 'N Learn Vietnamese". The songs contained herein are renditions of popular Vietnamese children's songs. WARNING: Most of the words sung throughout are inaudible. While the accompanying workbook aids in comprehension, it isn't enough to get you through the annoying vocals of Sing N Learn Vietnamese. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I learned Slovak from this book & CD!
After lots of study, I was able to speak with strangers when visiting Slovakia for the first time and also to email and chat with my Slovak friends.
5-0 out of 5 stars solid book
It's hard to find a university that offers Slovak and books are scarce too. This one is well orgranized and easy to use.If you finish the book, it is probably equivalent to taking three Slovak classes.I really like the book and think that it is very helpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars a useful glimpse of a way different language
We used this book for several months prior to traveling in Slovakia to meet parents of our potntial son-in-law. It has a lot in it; it's dense.Much I found useful.I found I could make reasonable guesses at some billboard ads and the headlines of a couple of travel articles in a train magazine once we got there, though I only made it through ch. 6 our of 16.Tapes\CD useful too. Book is missing a number of basic traveler phrases, but the small Slovak dictionary was good for that.Though Naughton spends some time onpoints of tricky grammar--such as cases--which I was not going to bother with, he does not bog down in it.I gather Slovak has so much case agreement it could be overwhelming to manage, butthis presentation is streamlined pretty well to get the potential consumer to useful sentence models on many topics. One could learn a great deal more than I did by doing more chapters, but I already got money's worth! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great supplemental worksheets for Spanish teachers
This is a WONDERFUL book for teachers to pull from when they need more worksheets or ideas to give a spin on the topic of the day in their Spanish class.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Primer
I teach Spanish at a community college.I also, from time to time, teach specialized courses in legal, medical, police, you-name-it Spanish. This would be a terrific supplement to the materials necessary for those courses. In addition to writing my own curriculum for each, this would give a needed boost to lots of concepts in a workbook format.I wish I could require it for my beginning college students! They would love it!
5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful for adults that are learning Spanish
I bought this as a supplement to my "Spanish for Gringos" book (which is also very good). The workbook makes learning Spanish fun.Okay, so it's targeted for kids in the 1st to 3rd grades, but what better way to learn Spanish than from a book that works with the very basics of the language?I bought a second copy of this for a co-worker and have suggested it to the individual that teaches Conversational Spanish where I work. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money. Get the Chicago instead
I bought the New World Spanish/English dictionary for college, and hated it.It seems to be missing a lot of words.Looking words up feels more frustrating, because they are often missing, and because this dictionary follows the practice of putting "ch-" after "co-" and the other C words. It's hard to explain.I just don't love the New World the way I love my Chicago.
5-0 out of 5 stars The greatest dictionary!
The most complete and easy to read. Many phrases, just the best dictionary!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for traveling
There may be better dictionaries to keep on the desk in your study, but they are impractical, because of their bulk, to bring with you when traveling. On the other hand, the so-called 'phrase books' put out by Berlitz and others are little more than worthless. This dictionary is the ideal compromise. It is small enough to fit into a tote bag, carryon, or backpack, yet inclusive enough to have just about any word you might need (except vulgar or 'dirty' words--those you'll have to learn from the locals).Of course, you'll need to know the basics of Spanish grammar, but this dictionary eliminates the need to rack your brain searching for a word.I have been using it in my travels to Latin countries since the 1990s.Highly recommended. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My 14 month old loves it and already follows along!
This book/video combo is invaluable for both of us.Songs are written out in both romanji as well as hiragana so I am learning just as much as he is.The book also contains a handy glossary at the end and cultural notes which explain the traditional way in which songs are sung, and how lyrics are acted out as many songs depict games (finger play, staring contest, etc.).The lyrics are a bit short but in most cases they are repeated so it is easy to catch on.We've been listening for about 2 months now and my son already knows when to follow along such as with the clapping hands song, finger play songs, etc just from listening, so I think he is definitely learning some japanese.Plus it's a lot of fun. There's also a karaoke section for you to sing alone once you learn the songs. The audio quality is pretty good as well. We are definitely ordering the Japanese 2 verson!
