Great Expectations
Even though the book was listed as used, it turned out to be more new! There were no torn pages, and no distinguishing blemishes on or in this textbook.It also came to my home in a very timely manner. Yes, I will be ordering textbooks from Amazon in the future.

the secret of life
So of course my senior quote was, "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."Because I knew that in order to create my ideal life, I would have to follow the best advice Saint-Exupery offers us in this book.And I knew that he was sharing the secret of life with us.Following your heart, following the path that you know is right for your soul, is the way to achieve inner peace.Your heart always shows you the right way.Especially when you are lost.
You're lovely, but you're empty. One couldn't die for you.
To be honest, I never read The Little Prince, or even really remembered it from my childhood. What brought it up, was playing the game Katamari Damacy. Apparently, part of the game was inspired by this tale, and that made me interested. Anything that inspired a very charming game couldn't be a loss, right? Unfortunately, the first time I picked up the book, I didn't get into it, and left it to collect dust for several months. But I gave it another shot recently, and read it during my breaks at work, and ended up getting quite a bit out of the book. Most importantly, how differently the world is when you're a child- I forgot how things seemed back then. The stars, animals, jobs people have, everything is completely different from how you see it as a child, than how you see it as an adult. Part of me is ashamed for letting that happen, so to put it. The dedication in this book even makes a jab at this fact, asking the children reading the book for forgiveness, dedicating it to an adult, his friend Leon Werth. He instead corrects it and dedicates the book "to Leon Werth when he was a little boy"- the person who became Leon. That alone should give you an understanding of how to take the rest of this book. While some children may not understand everything here (I actually recommend it to children age 7 and up, at youngest), the adults reading it to them certainly will, and that's just as important. I should mention though, before reviewing, that this review concerns the 60th Anniversary Edition. Amazon, for whatever reason, combines reviews for a product, even if they're clearly alternate versions. So I don't know about the minor translation changes that some people noticed, as I haven't read the book before this edition.
Not a hat but an elephant inside a boa constrictor
My only regret about this book is I never learned enough in French class to read and enjoy the untranslated version.THE LITTLE PRINCE is such a charming fable and makes so many points about what is really important in life and how to live it that it will linger in the thoughtful reader's memory forever.The simple perfect artwork is as memorable as the text.Perhaps the tragic death of the author adds extra poignancy but THE LITTLE PRINCE would be a well loved classic if Antoine de Saint-Exupery had died of old age in his bed. ... Fantastic
i am looking tomove out to South Afica and this book has helped me pick up the basics that i will require to get me started.

Great book for an easy language
I've studied several languages and I can say that - as a native English speaker - Afrikaans is the EASIEST language to learn. This book is a great introduction to Afrikaans- the easiest language for a native English (and Dutch) speaker and also the easiest and most logical and analytical Germanic language. After mastering a working knowledge of Afrikaans with this book, I was able to converse with South Africans and Dutch speakers. Prior to this, I only learned/studied Latin-based languages (Spanish and Portuguese). Now, I can read/understand Afrikaans and Dutch (and more German than I thought I could). I got this book on a whim (curious about other Germanic languages as a native English speaker focusing on Iberian languages) and have now fallen in love with the other languages in my native West-Germanic language family.

A good start.
Unlike most of the other titles in this series, Colloquial Afrikaans provides the new learner with a solid knowledge of the basic grammar, essential for a further study. The plural of nouns and the flexion of adjectives should be covered more thouroughly however, but this course with its lively dialogues and everyday vocabulary is one of the best one could choose to start that interesting language. ... colloquial series
I've tried many other language/phrase book, and I think the Colloquial Series are the best for beginners who plan to learn and pursue to a higher level.
Great Jumpstarter to Dutch...
I emigrated to the Netherlands two years ago from California, an English-monolingual culture. I was familiar with Afrikaans, since I was born in South Africa. This made learning Dutch a lot easier for me, so I very quickly came up to speed. However, it was the book by Donaldson which was the vehicle that brought me up to speed. I know this because after I rapidly moved forward as I used the book, I recommended it to an American who also found the book useful. I had a number of other texts, but I quickly abandoned them and concentrated on Donaldson's book. Een goed boek.
This was the closest thing I could find to a college textbook for first-year Dutch.Each chapter has about 4 grammar lessons, about 6 blocks of exercises to drill you on the grammar lessons, about 4 dialogues to read and hear on tapes which illustrate the grammar lessons, plus a couple of blocks on Dutch/Flemish culture.Read more

One of the best
My Master's thesis was a review and rating of large Spanish-English dictionaries. I find this dictionary, like all the other Larousse dictionaries, to be a good choice.

Mis animales
Los animales que aparecen son muy pocos y los más conocidos, como el gato, perro, caballo, etc.Esta demasiado aburrido para niños de 1-2 años.
Great review or word introduction
If you know how to pronounce the Spanish words correctly, this is a great book for toddlers. I've used it with my Toddler Spanish classes, and even my 4-7 year olds as they are learning to form their own opinions and original sentences in Spanish. I love the simplistic, yet BRIGHT pictures and how wonderfully sturdy the slick pages are.

Thoroughly enjoyable!
Of the two readers I ordered, I enjoy this one much more.I've read it many times in just the few short weeks since I received it and now my mother is reading and enjoying it.The stories are very short, simple, beautifully illustrated, and every single word in the text is in the glossary at the end.This gave me confidence immediately since I've never studied French.In fact, the illustrations are so good that they teach the words on the page without effort.I only wish there were more stories.I want to find out more about the family in the book!

Fun reader for French beginners!
I picked this book up in a used book store, and quickly found it to be a gem!One of the hardest things when learning a new language is keeping it fun and interesting, and not to lose interest.This book makes learning French fun! The pictures add interest and whimsy while the very simple format that builds a few new words each page helps you to follow along without getting lost.Every new word in the text can be found in the glossary in the back, and the situations detailed are days in the life of a family.Words learned are very useful and even a complete beginner will quickly pick up the structure of French sentences.I'd recommend this book either to a complete beginner or someone who has recently started to learn French.Note this book is for reading French, and does not have a guide on pronouncing the language.I started this small book after a month of learning pronunciation with another guide, and was able to read the sentences out loud without much difficulty.Enjoy! ... Lost in Spanish
I purchased this item with the false idea that the CD included actual people who could pronounce Spanish words. What I got was a CD that has a computer generated voice that is almost (I use almost very loosely) completely garbled. Fun book
My children enjoyed this book and it did not take to long to read.A good bedtime book.

Simple and Sweet
My son loves this book as a must read every morning when he wakes up and every night before he goes to bed. We love searching for the mouse and the flea and seeing the movement of the characters before they end up on the bed or off of it. The colors and the change from night to day are so smooth you almost dont notice it.

Good Book
Spanish is our native language and we speak Spanish at home so that our kids learn both Spanish and English. This book is a simple story with rather rich language, my daughter got 3 or 4 words she had never heard before. One word per page, but good for vocabulary.
This book is nice, sturdy, and slick so it's lasted through countless Spanish classes as well as my own three children for close to four years. If you're looking for a story, this isn't it. It has an English word and a Spanish word on each page. The main thing it lacks is the phonetic Spelling. Overall, a good vocabulary builder, or an addition to a comprehensive curriculum's chapter on weather, like Flip Flop Spanish.
Spanish/English fun for little ones
It amazes me to hear my grandson and granddaughter using the Spanish words from this volume and the others in the author's bilingual series. I guess that is the best tribute to the quality of the books in the series--they reach and they teach. The books are thoughtfully put together and have great visual appeal. Lots of fun for the grandkids (and for me) as we learn.

Bilingual Fun for Beginners

I have to agree with the others...
I was really ready to like this product, because the book is charming, and the presentation of concepts is good.It appears quite kid-friendly.However, the sound quality is the pits.It sounds like an old inferior analog recording put straight over to disk.My opinion is that this is a defective product.

poor sound quality
Nice product, but tracts 4-11 on disc one have terrible sound quality.I don't know if this was a problem with just my copy, but the publisher refused to replace it, and exchage time had expired on Amazon.Beware.

Great for children all the way through elementary
I use this book fairly regularly to teach verbs and other vocabulary in my private Spanish classes. The phrases are simple, the pictures are nice and bright, and the students (ages 3-5) are able to "read" this in Spanish after only one viewing of the book! The phrases used go along well with my 4 year old's curriculum, Flip Flop Spanish, and he often pulls this book out after his lesson (on his own.)

Unique and Interesting

I use this book in my French 4 class, and I think it is wonderful.As a student, I can tell you that it is easy to use and understand, with the vocabulary in boldface in the side margins, and extensive footnotes, it is very useful indeed. This is an excellent French book!
