5-0 out of 5 stars Great Homeschool Spanish Supplement
I am currently using this book in addition to the (old) Basic Spanish CD's from Berlitz to teach my children Spanish this year. The dictionary is providing a wonderful selection of additional vocabulary that is pertinent to home life. Each selection is accompanied by pronounciation and a sample sentence both in English and Spanish. The sample sentences give further help in learning sentence structure and idomatic expersions. There are about 2000 Spanish entries and 2000 English entries.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to Spanish and English

5-0 out of 5 stars Goodnight Moon in Spanish
As an NY born of Dominican decent, I love reading this book to my little one.My 20 month old daughter loves this book. We have both the English and Spanish versions of the book.Often times she brings her Dad or me both books to read to her.We start with one gets tired of it mid-way and then she wants us to pick up where we left off in the other language. It doesn't really matter to her which language we start/end with.We change it up all the time.I agree with some other reviewers that the translation is not exact, but the flow is very good with the changes that were made.I especially like "la viejecita que teje muy calladita" instead of "a quiet old lady who was whispering 'hush'," especially since I knit and my daughter can relate to that.Because of this book she has begun to comfortably alternate luna/moon and star/estrella.I think it's really important for my little girl to learn both Spanish and, obviously, English and this book makes it that much easier to accomplish.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Night Moon (spanish edition)
Our family does not speak Spanish. However my son is currently taking Spanish 5 in high school. He believes learning a foreign language is important and wants to teach his new niece. He is looking forward to reading it to her!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hard to overstate the charm....
It would be hard to overstate the charm of these wonderful stories.Like many others, I picked up this book to help with my project of trying to teach myself French. Not only does it serve that purpose, but it is so engaging that it has held me on course when the inherent difficulty of the language and some cross-cultural exasperation has tempted me to chuck the whole project. No way could I ever write this little dude and his copains out of my life.
5-0 out of 5 stars very very funny stuff
A collection of stories told from the perspective of a young French boy, Le Petit Nicolas is charming and extremely hilarious!I have not read this book in many years, but I never forgot the stories and cartoon drawings that cracked me up so much. The chapter where he smokes cigars, entitled "Je Fume," comes to mind as one of my favorites. Also, for me it was not just the stories themselves, but the way he tells them that make it so funny.I'd had a couple of years of French in high school and in college before I read this, and while that was more than enough background to enjoy it immensely, there were parts that were difficult to understand. Many phrases, like "un coup de poing sur le nez," are easy enough to figure out, and usually the context is enough to clarify things if one gets stumped. In many ways Nicolas reminds me of Calvin, from Calvin and Hobbes. There are not as many pictures (although the ones included are excellent), and while Nicolas has a cleaner haircut, he is no less the rebel for it.This is highly recommended reading for anyone with any ability whatsoever in the French language.

5-0 out of 5 stars sweet, warm humor that transcends culture
The author who cowrote the Asterix series once again transcends cultural barriers with his innocent, warm, boyish humor.

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful but limited
This is a reference grammar of a traditional informal type. It provides much information about how different things are said, including such specialized constructions as dates and times, with numerous examples. It has a detailed index and a fair amount of cross-referencing. Examples are provided both in Arabic script and in romanization.
5-0 out of 5 stars Valuable Contribution to the Literature
This book fills and important hole in the literature: a solid,up-to-date, in-print grammar of the Urdu language.I have used it to supplement my study of other Urdu texts.5-0 out of 5 stars good!
A great book. It does what it says. Clear, easy to understand. It says that this book is not for complete beginners, but it could be, given only that said beginners are not complete idiots. I bought another book, a 'teach yourself' book, which I needn't have, given that this book suffices. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great as a supplement or review
This brightly colored book is great to use as an addition to a Spanish curriculum like the workbook Flip Flop Spanish. The sturdy pages continue to wow my classes of ages 3 all the way to 12 years old. If you'd like to introduce your child to Spanish, I might choose an animal, colors, or shapes book before this one.
3-0 out of 5 stars Some issues with some of the Spanish Words
As a native Spanish speaker, it is very important for me that my son learn Spanish. My son loves all of the books in this series, but this one causes me a few problems.Part of the problem is the Spanish words used (which is an issue for my dialect). For example, "bananas" is translated as "las bananas" instead of "los platanos" and peas are translated as "las guisantes" instead of "los chicharros" and "broccolli" is "el brecol" instead of "el broculi" (sorry my keyboard is not set to do accents). The other issue is some of the foods selected. For example, "soup" is one of the foods, but it is hard to draw in a way that children really understand that is is soup."Radish" is anothert choice, but since it is such an uncommon vegetable, I am not sure why she didn't use someting like a potato or a bell pepper, which are more common. So, I would recommend this book, but be prepared to change some of the words around using your computer, printer, and some glue.

4-0 out of 5 stars Basic, brief intro to Spanish
I wanted to introduce Spanish to my infant son so I bought this and "Mi Ropa/My Clothes" by the same author. I like this one the best. Both have very simple pictures labeled with the English and Spanish word. My son is 5 months old and seems to enjoy the pictures. ... Read more

I bought this book after having looked far and wide to discover that there is not a single good Polish grammar book in the English language. This one is at least comprehensive and well organised.
5-0 out of 5 stars Matko boska!
What a great resource. Bielec's book provides the most succinct and clear grammar of Polish I've ever read. As an upper-intermediate/lower-advanced speaker, I've found this book invaluable in helping explain the ever overwelming nightmare of Polish declination.5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginners and Intermediate

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bossy Gallito/El Gallo de Bodas
This is a wonderful children's book.It is a classic Latin American folktale. It was fun to travel with the Bossy Gallito to his uncle's wedding.Along the way, of course, he runs into some trouble and, well, you just have to read the rest! Although this classic cummulative story was familiar to my students, its illustrations captivated my second-grader's attention. We absolutely enjoyed this book! Another plus is that the book is bilingual. What more could you ask for? (For a comparison, try the same title written by Alma Flor Ada.) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars We want a whole series of Proffesor Parrot in Spanish!
My son, aged 2, loves the "bird" videotape! I'm trying to teach him spanish but I'm having trouble finding visual materials in Spanish for him. This video touches the basics in an entertaining way so it's engaging for kids. The acting and singing isn't top notch but it serves the purpose: my son has been belting out the "colores" song at the supermarket!
4-0 out of 5 stars Mr. Parrot
My 2.5-yeard old LOVES Mr. Parrot and sits through the whole video repeating some words here and there. I only wish there were videos out there for younger kids that teach more of the language than just "Hi", "My name is...", and numbers. This one is cool and engaing, but short and only covers a very small part of the introductory Spanish language.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great DVD!
I am using the DVD with my 6 & 7 year old daughters. We love it!They beg to watch this DVD over and over. They have learned the numbers, colors, and many simple phrases.I popped the DVD into my computer and was able to print out a complete transcript and learning guide. We are using this in our home school.I will use this until the children tire of it, and then move on to a more formal Spanish instruction. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
My daughter loves this book. The pictures are really cute. From about age 1, she would point to the various animals and we would make the animal noise. As she got older she can try to say the name of the animal in both English and French. This is a fantastic book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for learning at home!
This book is great, especially when it is used with the ancillary materials (workbooks, audio CD program, computer software(Take Home Tutor on CD-ROM), integrated DVD program, and tests made from the Teacher's Test Generator).I have the latest version of this text (2004) and I acquired all of the ancillaries through the publisher (Houghton Mifflin) at their website. All of these materials make for a greathomelanguage library that canbe used over and over by family members!

4-0 out of 5 stars Better for a class
En espanol is a ok textbook. I have a hardcover edition(which I checked-it is the same book.)It seems to rely on lots of videos and recordings that don't come w/ the book (but w/ the teacher's edition) . The workbook (titled- En Espanol!: Cuaderno: Mas Practica: Level 1) is directly tied to it so if you buy the book buy that too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, more vocab oriented
I like the Paso a Paso series. I skipped from Spanish I to Spanish IV with the help of these books. You do indeed develope pretty good, and useful, vocabulary in the texts. You are also ready for the next book if all you get to is chapter 8. Only 8 chapters are necessary. Though, you will have a more solid foundation with all chapters of each book.
