1-0 out of 5 stars Berlitz bombs
This "pack" is HIGHLY overpriced. It consists of nothing but a story book written in Spanish and English and a CD that reads the story.I am very disappointed. The "Spanish for Children" is MUCH better and costs less.I am trying to get my money back on the Berlitz.

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent way for parents to teach young children Spanish
I bought this pack for my six year old son, and we really like it.It's actually not a book.It comes with a parent guide which will take you step-by-step through a complete lesson plan on how to teach your child the language (even if you don't speak it yourself); 50 flash cards of all the numbers, colors, family nounds, animals and foods plus some blank ones for your own use; a cassette with the enclosed storybook and a bunch of fun songs for the children to learn, a "Nicholas's Lost Cat" story in both English and Spanish, and a First 100 Words dictionary. It's well worth the price, and while it's certainly not a complete course by any means, it's an age-appropriate introduction to the language for any child between the ages of 3 and 12 or so.You'll need more than this pack if you want your child to achieve high-level fluency in the language, but this is the best solution for taking those first few steps. My only complaint is the fact that it comes with only one storybook; I would have gladly paid more had it come with several more storybooks, which are much more interesting and dynamic than a dictionary and flashcards. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Educational & Fun for Baby & Parents!
MY NUMBERS/MIS NUMEROS is a simple, fun book. There are two pages for the numbers one through ten. The first page shows the number, with the name of the number in English and Spanish. On the facing page is a picture, with as many instances of that object as go with the number.
5-0 out of 5 stars Another great Spanish Board book
Whether you're introducing Spanish to your child, or wanting a nice review, this book is GREAT because of the bright, simple pictures, its sturdiness, and its perfect size for younger children through upper elementary.
5-0 out of 5 stars A bold bright addition to any collection of children's books
A enjoy looking at this book just as much as my children do. I am a mother of 4 and a preschool teacher. The colors in this book are simple and bold. It is a great resource for teaching Spanish/English and numbers in the classroom. I like the fact that the Spanish words are not the simplest choices. It challenges the Spanish learner in me. I use this book with pre-schoolers mainly 2 year olds. It is easily adaptable to the older classroom learning Spanish. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Colloguial Lithuanian:The Complete Course for Beginners
Owned and tried to use this book to learn enough Lithuanian to "get by" when we visted this fall.It certainly is NOT a Berlitz type program and is not a good book or tape to use alone. It is almost impossible to learn to say, Hello, my name is.... using this program.
5-0 out of 5 stars A well written course!
This book is an excellent course. The book and audio guide are inseparable! However, be warned that the lithuanian language is not for the inexperienced in the world of linguistics.

I would be lying if I were to say that this book will make learning Lithuanian very easy. It cannot possibly do that.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Bilingual Book with CD
One of the best purchases I've made and I have made several of bilingual books! and other materials for the learning of French for toddlers and young children. The quality of the book and translation, as well as the CD, are exceptional. The reader on the CD speaks beautiful fluid French. The enunciation is so clear. The illustrations in the book are fun and colourful and attract the young child's attention. Ana Lomba's products are of excellent quality and I would HIGHLY recommend all of them to anyone who wants to expose their children to a foreign language. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes learning fun!
My granddaughter loves listening to this Spanish learning CD.The songs making learning Spanish fun!I highly recommend this CD to anyone who wants to teach children Spanish.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the Early Spanish Learner!
Received this when both my children where under age 2.They are now 3 and 4 and still enjoy listening to it!It is great for the car.The songs are perfect for building simple vocabulary of numbers, colors, family members and the alphabet.I let my daughters' preschool borrow it and they have since ordered it for their Spanish program.I have found some tapes to contain too much Spanish that the kids don't understand what is being communicated. This is perfect for the young beginner.

2-0 out of 5 stars Only for absolute beginners
I was disappointed with this set, purchasing after reading other reviews. It was very simplistic, containing very little spanish and was very boring. It didn't hold the attention of my 3 and 5 year olds.Too much english , not enough spanish and dull songs.Avoid, much better spanish introductory tapes available for children. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Gathering in the Sun: An Alphabet in Spanish and English
This is a must have for any chicano especially with kids.It is a magnificant piece of art that allows us to talk to our kids and others about our latino heritage in the agricultural fields of America.I bought this book because I am a fan of Simon Silva's art work and this book is like having a selection of his prints to display on the coffee table instead of the wall.It is a great conversational piece as art or history, as a tool to teach our personal heritage or as an educational piece for those of different ethnic backgrounds, and last but not least it is great for young and old. I love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Yet!
I have been learning Modern Greek for only 3 years. I had tried many books and courses but was greatly confused by the verb forms - "the What" and "the When".
5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best
This Greek grammar is, quite simply, the best and most comprehensive available. The detail is excellent and, whilst frequently employing technical linguistic terminology throughout, it can be easily understood with little or no knowledge of such. Highly reccommended, indeed - a must, for anyone who wishes to gain an in-depth understanding of the Greek language.

4-0 out of 5 stars YIKES!!!Big big book!
I'm giving this book a 4-star rating because it was definitely "comprehensive"...but, a little too comprehensive if you need just an explanation of the basics. This book is rather large and goes into some horrific detail on Greek Grammar...probably even more than fluent Greek speakers know. For what it is, it's good...but it's just not what I needed.I think I'll try the reference Greek Grammar book...I'll let you know how that goes. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Look! The Romans! I
I am currently a Latin 2 student in high school. We've been in this book since Latin 1 and are using it again this year because we didn't finish it last year. Anywho, I, unlike many of my classmates, have enjoyed this book (at least to some extent). It has been an excellent book to learn from, as long as you have a competant teacher. Latin is not an east language to learn.
5-0 out of 5 stars Takes the difficulty away from learning Latin
Latin has a reputation of being a difficult and dull language to learn. Most textbooks present it in a scholarly way, focusing on transaltions of the works of ancient authors, and not giving modern learners a connection to their lives. The Ecce Romani series presents Latin in an innovative and attractive way.Every chapter begins with a a painted color picture and short story (in latin) about a fictional Roman family made up of Cornelius-a senator, Aurelia-his wife, Marcus-son, Cornelia-daughter, and Sextus- a boy staying with them for a period of time. Each tale develops the family and other characters as well as showing aspects of daily life. All the new vocabulary (old vocab is sometimes included too) is included on the same page.If you have every studied a foreign language, you know how easy paragraphs are to read when you have all the English words on the same page. The 2 column list contains nouns, verbs, expressions, adverbs, etc. A new grammar concept is introduced after each story, and future stories continue to use it, so it is not forgotton. This way, the stories become more detailed (and interesting) as you progress.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent series
This is a very well-written textbook series.I took Latin I and II using this series, but I had to switch to the Cambridge Latin series for Latin III when I changed schools.Ecce Romani is a much better series than Cambridge. It contains many assets (such as an English-Latin AND Latin-English dictionary, multiple challenging practice exercises in each chapter, enjoyable stories, well-organized vocabulary sections in each chapter, etc.) necessary for the enjoyable and productive study of Latin which the Cambridge books lack. The Ecce Romani books are well organized and more enjoyable to learn from.I highly recommend this well-written series to everyone. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A clear intorduction to Chinese Grammars
I am a Chinese who can speak the language but live in a foreign country and seldom use it. I thought it was very difficult if possible at all to lay down rules for Chinese grammars, until I came to use this book to teach my teenage son who was not brought up in Chinese. It make teaching and learning Chinese easier than I thought.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent study material
I was able to browse through this book in the bookstore. I study Mandarin Chinese for one and a half year, speaking fluently, and I own quite a few different study books, so I can judge them easily. I was impressed with this book and certainly plan on buying it - just it's a bit pricy. Clear presentation of the grammar, AS it is used by the native speakers, advanced English without mistakes, and use of Hanyu Pinyin romanization *without mistakes* (as often seen as an obstacle in Chinese study books). The other book(s) from this author has the same but I suppose more advanced (as a follow up course). These are not books for the absolute beginner, though! It is not the kind of friendly course book with stories and all vocabulary laid out for each chapter, no it is not. It is, however, all presented in a very clear way.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great review / reference
Having completed 270 hours of study, I bought both this book and the intermediate level book to review and build upon what I had learned.I found the book very suitable for these purposes. Both books together provide comprehensive coverage of all essential Chinese grammar concepts, and there are helpful cross references between chapters. Each grammar point is illustrated with several examples, and possible sources of confusion are clarified. At the end of each chapter are a variety of self-checking exercises and an answer key in the appendix.

5-0 out of 5 stars Precioso y divertido / Cute and fun
This book (in English) was one of the favorites of my best friend's little girl for years, and the simple premise of "be careful what you get yourself into" amuses even my grown friends. The story of the mouse who wants a cookie (which requires a glass of milk, which calls for ...) and can't stop there, is a familiar plot presented in a fresh way with fun illustrations. The Spanish translation has a very natural feel. I was delighted to find this translation, as I had told my boyfriend (now my husband) about it on an early date, and ever after he persisted in asking, "How did that story go? The one about the little mouse?" whenever I tried to get him to stop being fresh. :)A delightful book.

5-0 out of 5 stars My First Spanish Word Book / Mi Primer Libro De Palabras EnEspañol
EXCELLENT BOOK FOR KIDS EDUCATION, TO LEARN ENGLISH OR SPANISH

5-0 out of 5 stars Great supplement to Flip Flop Spanish - or any class!
I use this book in all my Spanish classes, ages 4 to 18, to build vocabulary. It has photos of items, so there's no guessing as to what the vocabulary is about - it's large enough to hold at the front of the classroom (it's not a huge room, but you get the idea) and point as we repeat the words and then to quiz the students, or drill one at a time. A great resource to boost your child's vocabulary or review items from a workbook like Flip Flop Spanish - the only drawback is there's no phonetic spelling and no CD, so if you're not sure on pronunciation, that may be something to think about.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource for kids and grown ups
Even after years of academic Spanish, I have turned to this book when at a loss for a word. My kids love it and ask to read it all of the time! There is so much in terms of photos and words that we usually just go through a few pages at a time and leave a bookmark. It helps to know a bit about pronunciation since this book doens't provide a "dummies" guide like the Dora englis/spanish books that my kids also love. This is by far the most comprehensive that I have seen. Excellent for the family room or coffee table! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Opposties
This was a really cute children's book. Don't think it is an actual story, but if you are looking for something that will teach simple words in English and Spanish, this is a great book! I especially enjoyed the pictures and use of opposites like "big, small" and "day, night." As always with this series of books, the pronunciation guide in the back was certainly helpful with explaining the words to a child, and even for myself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining education in concepts and language
My several grandchildren have enjoyed this book as I bring it along on my visits. The size and construction are great for their small hands and the bright colors and animation make the learning process fun and appealing. It seems that most children today know at least one Spanish-speaking family and this is a great tool for bringing better understanding of two languages.

4-0 out of 5 stars annoying voice, but good songs
if you can get past the female vocalist's singing voice (which my husband disparagingly refers to as church singing), this is actually a very nice collection of songs. most are familiar western children's melodies, like 'old macdonald', 'mary had a little lamb', and 'london bridge' with korean lyrics. some of these lyrics are translations of the english lyrics, but others are not. the remainder of the songs are traditional korean children's songs that i remember singing when i was little. the best thing is that my [...] daughter is actually picking up some korean from these songs and she loves to listen to the CD, which is a full 45 minutes of entertainment. definitely recommended! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Familia/Family
This beautifully illustrated picture book which is in both Spanish and English clearly and magically enthralls both children and adults alike. It shows the warmth of family life despite five brothers and one sister living in such close quarters and the ingenuity and generosity of the whole family making one little girl very happy. I loved it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for everyone
Even though this is a picture book, it touches social issues such as immigration, poverty, "Blue chip" stamps, and a father the girl rarely sees because he works the whole day. What I like about this book is that the little girl never complained about her family. She just needed her own space, but she never hatred her relatives for steeling her privacy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
This is a great little resource to help one along the way to understanding all the little suffixes that change like the wind in finnish. This book is for someone who has finished at very least a first level book and understood atleast 80% of it.I used "From start to finnish"by leila white and took a class. This is the best book out there on grammar and well written to boot. Also easy to carry around at 272 pages including the appendix.

4-0 out of 5 stars Essential, not comprehensive
Like other people said in their reviews, this isn't a book for beginners. I bought this book when I was a beginner and really couldn't use much of the material, but as I went on it became more pertinent. Of course the book will only take you so far. There are a lot of grammar topics not covered in the book, for example the possibilty construction (on tehtävissä), which is pretty common isn't found anywhere. Also, some of the topics could have been explained better, like the passive. Karlsson tried to explain it in an easier manner, but in reality I think his explanation wasn't as clear as some other books, like even TY Finnish. The last few chapters are helpful but it seems like they were put together at the last minute. The section on word derivations isn't explained very well, basically it's just a list of words with translations. The colloquial chapter could have been MUCH better, since the differences between the colloquial language and the formal, written one are verrry big. Ideally he could've included mentions of the different dialects and such.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hands down the best guide to Finnish grammar
This is by far the best guide to Finnish grammar available (although there are also some cool online resources). If you are at all serious about learning Finnish, you should buy and read and reread this book. I only wish I'd bought it in English. If there's one thing more confusing in this life than Finnish grammar, it's trying to read about Finnish grammar in Finnish. Get this English translation. Karlsson makes astevaitalu as clear as it can be made. ... Read more
