5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book in English orSpanish!
A friend in a college language class (not Spanish I'm afraid) advised me that books familiar to us in English are one of the best ways to increase our vocabulary in our target language.I took her up on it then, and when both I and my niece enrolled in Spanish classes (I at the local community college, with tuition paid for by my employer; she in junior high), I purchased this book for her and some other books for myself.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great addition to your library in Spanish
This is a great book for those of us who want to raise our children bilingually and equally wonderful for Spanish-speakers. The Spanish is fun--I also love the repetition of "el da terrible, horrible..." The fact that the names are not translated is fine--not all English names have a Spanish translation and vice-versa. I believe it keeps the integrity of the original version and the Alexander character.

5-0 out of 5 stars ME VOY A AUSTRALIA !
Qu dice un nio al que TODO le sale mal ? "Me voy a Australia !". Los dibujos - en blanco y negro - estn esplndidamente ilustrados, la cara de Alexander es indescriptible por su picarda. Un libro para leer y ver con los hijos a la hora de dormir. Un libro alentador, especial para aquellos nios "difciles" ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Close but no cigar
This books seems an attempt to improve on the old Jenney's First Year Latin.Strengths include an ongoing social study of the Romans, a more thorough address of certain concepts as they arise, varied and imaginative exercises, and more extensive readings.5-0 out of 5 stars Workbook for First Year Latin
After undergoing Jenney's First Year Latin course and going through the workbook to review and deepen my newly learned Latin skills, I feel that I have achieved a greater understanding of both English and Latin. This workbook provides extra exercises that parallel the lessons in the textbook. As I filled in the blanks in the workbook, I began to find myself thinking more and more about the current Latin concept.I love this supplemental tool and hope you do as well! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Previous poster is wrong about translation
It is common knowledge that an article needs to be placed in front of nouns in Spanish and that this is not necessary for English nouns. It is absolutely correct that this was done in this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great way to increase color retention and build vocabulary
The bright simple pictures are what drew me to use this book for my toddler Spanish classes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice coloring book
A fun way to introduce some French vocabulary. The illustrations are fair but clear. Each page has a picture with a word or words and the whole is in alphabetical order. The quality of the paper is high, firm and white - better than most coloring books.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, cute images of France & French language & culture
I teach French in an elementary school four afternoons a week, working with children that range in age from kindergarten to 6th grade. The students have great fun with this coloring book, learning a new word each day and coloring in the the picture that goes with it. The page with Paris is one of the best in the book as it has a cute and simplified drawing of the Seine and the major touristic sites of the city at different sides of the river's banks: Eiffel Tower, Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, and Arc of Triomphe. The drawings are large, fun, and not overly intricate; it doesn't take more than 10 minutes to color in one page. The coloring book serves as an alphabet book with a letter introduced on each page and then a corresponding picture. The pages are definitely of higher quality (more durable) than in a regular coloring book. Beware that there is no pronunciation guide to accompany it. There's no dictionary either, but it is not needed as the picture is enough of an explanation. The pages will not tear out easily if you're planning to hang up the the artwork afterwards. Kids will definitely have fun with this coloring book in or outside of school though. Even toddlers who are beginning to color will have fun with this book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful for Learning Vocabulary
I immediately noticed the publisher of Say Hola to Spanish is Lee & Low, the prominent publisher of multicultural children's books. Also noted is the fact that this is the first book for both author and illustrator. As an introduction to simple Spanish words, this is excellent. A glossary and pronunciation guide to over seventy words come in handy when you're going through the pages.
4-0 out of 5 stars My niece loved this!
I had seen this book in the bookstore, but I had resisted buying it because it doesn't use the Spanish articles. However, after my niece kept repeating the 10-15 Spanish words she learned at school and from watching Dora the Explorer, I realized that this book would be great for her (and my sister/her mom who doesn't speak any Spanish). The first time I read it to her, she repeated every verse back to me--on her own, I did not ask her to do it.I think this will help her learn quite a few more Spanish words.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Exhaustive, Encyclopedic, Grammar Reference.
It would be difficult to imagine a more complete work on descriptive, Danish grammar, or any grammar, for that matter. You name it, it's covered here: orthography, sentence structure, verbs, adjectives, the list is very long(in fact, the very well organized index is 23 pages). Some readers have expressed the opinion that this book is very "British" but it is not.It is just very precise. For example, the terms copulatives(copulative conjuntions) and disjunctives(disjunctive conjunctions) are terms expressing the types of conjunctions used to join items and those used to separate them(as in the English "and" and "or").Many readers might not be accustomed to such terminology, but the book actually does not assume that the reader is.It explains these terms and often makes comparisons to English. This is not a book that a beginner should use to learn Danish all by itself. There are no reading lessons , for example, nor is it organized for tutorial presentation. It is a reference, but one that is very usable by students and speakers of all levels. There is also a similar volume in this series on Swedish grammar. The binding is also quite nice.It is sewn in signature.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Bible of Danish Grammar
This is the most comprehensive book of Danish grammar I have ever read! Even my Danish friends wanted this book so they could understand their own grammar. Its perfect for beginners and a great reference book for more advanced speakers of this often times difficult language. The only problem with this book (and the reason why I gave it 4 stars) is that it is written in very high formal British English, which is different from formal American English. This can often times confuse the reader, but not to a large extent. All in all, this is an excellent book and well worth the price. I plan on using this book the rest of my life (and the rest of my exchange year here in Denmark).

5-0 out of 5 stars Explaining Danish grammar when the Danes can't
I moved to DK several years ago. I had a few months of formal instruction, but still find it difficult to get answers to the "why" questions surrounding Danish grammar. Most Danes I have met cannot explain their own language's grammar rules, and also admit to not knowing or using proper grammar as well as they should. This book has definitely aided my language skills and provdes a handy reference as well, especially with professional correspondence. Highly recommended as a supplement to Danish instruction. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Some fundamental problems for English speakers
I've noticed some glitches in the selection of vocabulary, but that's not the main problem for English speakers. It doesn't indicate the gender of the nouns in either the English-Norwegian or the Norwegian-English direction. And you can't speak or write Norwegian unless you know the gender of the nouns. And you can't tell the gender by looking at the word the way you can in Italian. A lesser complaint is that it doesn't mark the tone. Norwegian words have tone. Haugen's dictionary marks the tone. I speak Norwegian, and used this dictionary occasionally, because they have it at the office. I didn't notice that gender was missing for a year until a colleague tried to use it. Wow! No gender! What were they thinking?

1-0 out of 5 stars Substandard
Although I did not buy this book from Amazon.com, I must concur with what the other reviewer has written. Quite frankly, this dictionary is substandard, and not worth the paper it's printed on. It is far too biased towards Norwegian users. If you want to translate from Norwegian to English, you'll get very little help from this dictionary. But that's not all. Many common words and phrases are omitted. Want to know how to say Happy Birthday in Norwegian? You won't find the answer in this dictionary! And as the other reviewer has pointed out, much crucial information about Norwegian words such as the past tense of verbs and gender of nouns has been left out. You're supposed to work that out from the grammar section in the middle. Not good enough!2-0 out of 5 stars Too many mistakes to recommend this one
This dictionary has many problems, and I recommend finding another one. For starters, it is clearly aimed at Norwegians needing to know aboutEnglish words. The pronunciations given for headwords are only for theEnglish words (British, at that). If you want to know how to pronouncegjre, for example, there is no help forthcoming. The definitions have lotsof little clues about which meaning you want to choose, but those hints areof course in Norwegian. Genders of Norwegian nouns, forms of irregularadjectives, past tenses of verbs are nowhere in evidence, not in the word'sarticle nor by cross-reference. (Norwegians already know thisinformation.)Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Meaning of Being a Parent
I love this book! This book is the story of all the things that a parent provides for their child: love, attention, and comfort. 3-0 out of 5 stars italy and italian
A very basic book suitable for 3-6 year olds, with color pictures, some language, and basic demographic info. in an easy to digest format. Some how, I expected more detail. The book did not hold my 6 year old's interest for more than a couple of minutes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent juvenile reference book!
After my 1st grade daughter received her first "research" assignment, we searched through Books-A-Million, WaldenBooks, and Borders, and finally came across this series.Wonderfully written, colorful andfull of great information!I am buying the other 3 titles in this seriesfor her library (Spain, Germany and France).Barron's would be foolish ifthey didn't attempt to expand on this series with other titles; it could beeasily sold to many schools that are truly interested in valuable education

5-0 out of 5 stars Drawing a sheep (in Latin)...
'The Little Prince' is a wonderful story, written by Antoine de Saint-Exupry (1900-1944), a French writer who also worked to fight the Germans during World War II.The publication story of 'The Little Prince' is an adventure in-and-of itself, as it happened at the height of the war, and just a year prior to Saint-Exupry disappearance over the Mediterranean while flying a mission with his French air squadron.Saint-Exupry wrote several books, and illustrated them himself, but 'The Little Prince', about the visitor from outer space not so different from us, but perplexed by our ways, and homesick for his home, touches people to this day in profound ways, making this classic an enduring one.5-0 out of 5 stars Timeless in any language

2-0 out of 5 stars Error-filled again
Yet again Ms. Emberley has created a book out of a dictionary, and again, it has errors. For example, she calls a square a "cuadro," which is plain wrong. A "cuadro" is a painting whereas a "cuadrado" is a square.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simple but good
This book is very simple, but right now my 12 month old son picks it every day without fail. He even laughs at "square", I am not sure why. I got it as a gift from a friend who had to go buy one for her son because he always wanted it from the library. Neither of us are Spanish speakers - that might be a nice feature, but the book works fine in English.
