3-0 out of 5 stars Boo not so bad
This is one of those books for kids that won't help them grow up to discover the cure for cancer, and won't make them want to run off an help the starving masses in Africa. Having said that my four year old son enjoys yelling boo! while reading it.My daughter, age two, also started yelling boo! as well.
1-0 out of 5 stars the B in Boo also stand for Breaking and Entering
This is one of my 4 year old daughters picks for reading time right now and I cringe every time she hands it to me.Okay fine that the kid paints his face so scary that anyone who sees it doesn't just scream, they pass out. We're obviously breaking from reality here, and that's just great.I can accept a few things as literary embellishment such as at Halloween each adult has massive amounts of candy for the trick-or-treaters, and a pillowcase can swell to hold a dumptruck sized load of candy.I realize the fun of the book is in the exaggeration. But it starts to get into things I don't want to have to explain. Most innocently, that the kid eats candy for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and midnight snacks for a year. But less innocently that saying the magic word, "Trick or treat," gives anyone and everyone who can incapacitate you in some way like scaring you silly can then march into your house and stroll off with whatever they like, from the halloween candy on your table to the contents of your fridge. And then, when the policeman hears what the kid has been doing, flat out telling him "I go in and take all the candy" the policeman's response isn't any sort of a reprimand, it's "bet you can't scare me."

4-0 out of 5 stars Grammy to 9 - 6 girls
It's great to find books for girls that give them an alternative to the princess personna that is prevalent even today.I'm glad my granddaughters have choices like this book along with the more traditional "girl" stories that are still much in evidence today.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not my cup of tea I guess
I really did not find anything original or humorous in the story. There is a bratty, demanding girl who insists that her grandfather row across the river to buy her socks. When she stubbornly refuses to wash them, people and animals react in an exaggerated manner until her friends take the matter into their hands. The reviews sounded great but I probably will donate this book to the library. No it isn't a princess story but it could still have someone with redeeming qualities.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great book by Robert Munsch
Robert Munsch is my daughter's favorite author (and one of mine too!).As soon as I see his name, I am assured the story will be great and have great humor and great characters. We enjoyed this book very much it is a really close second to my daughter's all time favorite (ZOOM!).Thanks so much! ... I love Robert Munsch and this is one of his books that the kids in my 2nd grade class loved the most!

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic Munsch
This is a good book for when bringing home baby.We bought it for our toddler as a fun way to explain that we are bringing him a baby brother from the hospital.

4-0 out of 5 stars Alligator Baby
I really liked this book, because it was funny.Kristen's parents kept bringing home animal babies from the zoo instead of a people baby.Kristen saved the day because she went to the zoo and got the right baby from the gorilla's cage. But it was funny at the end when all the mommy animals break into the house to get their babies back ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Makeup Mess Review
Makeup Mess is a very good book! I liked it because it was funny to see how the character Julie, portrayed a real little girl. That is because the author wrote it about his daughter Julie. I would definitely recommend this book to little girls. I don't think little boys would enjoy this particular book. But since I'm all for kids reading at young ages, I would recommend the book Pigs. It too, is written by Robert Munsch! I think all kids will enjoy this book. Overall I think Makeup Mess is a very good book and deserves 4 stars! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful Book for Kids - Scared my 4 & 5 Year old!! Terrible Images!!
I ordered this book through a book club. I thought is sounded like a good book that my girls could relate to - it was terrible! The tooth fairy looks scary, and the descriptions of teeth being pulled are awful for kids!Children are concerned about losing their teeth, if it will hurt, etc. These pictures and text only added to their fears!! I read "Love You Forever" by this author, and so I thought this would be a gentle, sensitive tale of teeth coming out - UGH!Once I finished reading the book, my 5 year old said:"Mom that is just scary. I don't like it!"

5-0 out of 5 stars My sons favorite
My 7 year old (almost 8) loves this book.He laughs every time we read it.His favorite part is the illustrations, especially the last pages where the tooth is traveling by and through everything. Many, Many great detailed pictures! It really is funny, although unrealistic - which is why it is so funny.I am now trying to find and buy more books by this author and illustrator for him for gifts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Our favorite loose tooth book
Since my daughter was 5 1/2 and her friends started getting loose teeth, we have checked out about every book on the subject and this is the one we like the best. It is just so darn funny. My daughter has a loose tooth now that is taking forever to come out and she loved the idea of Andrew's indestructible tooth. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What a Beautiful Book!
A wonderful story of a father and daughter reliving memories of the grandfather, who often took the father to visit the lighthouse near their home in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Well-written, as is usual for Robert Munsch, and the illustrations are beautiful.

5-0 out of 5 stars In the style of "Love You Forever"
Another classic Munsch book.Written in the style of "Love You Forever" If you don't like the sad endings you might want to stay away from this book.If your child is coping with the loss of a Grandparent I would definitely recommend this book.It gives a wonderful message of remembrance and tradition and the importance of what parents pass down to their children. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Just too funny!
OK, maybe this isn't appropriate subject matter in most (good) families, but it is *really* funny! My daughter Carmen had this book given to her as a gift. She really didn't care much for books at the time. She got kind of interested when she saw that the little girl in the book was also named Carmen. She was almost unable to contain herself when she saw the book was about farts! She couldn't wait to read the book to her dad, grandma & sister. I recommend it!

2-0 out of 5 stars OK, I hate to be a stick in the mud, but......
I bought this book because I love Robert Munsch's book I Love You Forever. I knew what I was ordering so it's my own fault, but I can't use this book. It's stuck up in my closet and I've never given it to the kids. I have a 6 year old and a 3 year old boy, and I have enough trouble with them talking about things that I'd rather they didn't, so I don't know why I ordered this book. I know they'd think it was funny, but the last thing I really want to do is get them talking about farts all day. I'm sorry, if your kids are more mature I'm sure it would be fine for them. But it definitly wasn't for my family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Refreshing, fun
You might expect a book about a girl in a wheelchair to have some socially correct message -- something about how the "differently abled" are people, too, so we should all be nice to them. Or maybe how we should try to imagine life from their perpective, so we can count our blessings. Yada yada yada.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
My daughter adores this book! She checked it out of the school library so many times the librarian asked me if she would consider reading something different.I decided to purchase her own copy to avoid conflicts. She reads it constantly.I adore the fact that Robert Munsch has the foresight to reflect real life children in his books. The star of this story is a little girl in a wheelchair. As soon as I see Robert Munsch as the author of a book, I know that we are in for a great story with good humor and the story will take us on a fun ride.My daughter knows this too.Keep up the great work!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great Munsch Book
Once I saw a Munsch book that dealt with a child in a wheelchair, I just had to get it for my daughter. We just got her first wheelchair and it was a great book to not only have her look at the pictures, but to read to other friends and family that see her in her chair and I see they are curious about it.It was a fun book and it's great to see a book out there that shows children with a disability having fun.I'm sure once she outgrows the wheelchair she has now, she will want a super fast one just like the girl in the book!Umm, thanks.:) ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Aaron's Hair
I have enjoyed several Robert Munsch stories and enjoy them all very much.I love to read them with the children that I care for as well as my own Son.As many of you are aware when reading these stories there is always a key line that the children can remember and share while reading aloud.I was dissapointed however, that the strong line in this story was "Hair! I hate you!"I thought that this is a very negative and strong word to teach young children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Aaron's Hair
The first time I saw this book was when it was told in sign language to a group of deaf children. The narrator was so demonstrative the whole room was in stitches. Then the children acted out the story in sign and it was hilarious. It has become the favorite book of both my 2-year-old and 8-year-old grandchildren. The story of Aaron and his hair is so funny.I have not read a better child's book in my 40 years of reading them...and I have read many.

5-0 out of 5 stars Robert Munsch rocks!!
I actually haven't read this particular book, but having grown up on Robert Munsch, I can say that he is one of the most brilliant storytellers for children of our time.I can vividly remember the plots and choral repitititions (or as the other review calls them " uninventively repetitive text") from books that I haven't looked at in 10 years. If you have a pre-schooler or teach little kids, this seireis of books is an absolute must."hey mud puddle!!!" ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Are You Kidding Me?
Anyone who gives this book a bad review is not using it in the setting it was meant for.Robert Munsch is a storyteller. His books are best enjoyed in a group setting.I've been reading books outloud and telling stories for many years. This book has stood the test of time.It remains one of my students' favorites. It surprises me how much upper grades enjoy the book, but I especially like using it with children grades Pre-K - 1st.The repetion is delightfully addicting and the whole idea of pulling one over on adults fascinates children.Don't buy this book if Love You Forever is the only Munsch book you've read. This book is more true to Robert Munsch's writing style. If you enjoy Stephanie's Ponytale, Thomas' Snowsuit, or Purple, Green & Yellow then this book is for you!

1-0 out of 5 stars This book sends a poor message...
It's a pitty Robert Munch hasn't continued to deliver the same beautiful messages he brought to us in Love You Forever in his recent books.4-0 out of 5 stars Meant to be read aloud.
"Mmm.. cookies" is meant to be read aloud. The repetition and sounds allow the younger children to anticipate the simple plot - you can literally see eagerness on their faces build up to the "YUCK! PWAH! SPLICHT! PLAY CLAY! GLA-GLA-GLA-GLA!" Read more

Editorial Review

The mother sings to her sleeping baby: "I'll love you forever / I'lllove you for always / As long as I'm living / My baby you'll be." She still sings the same song when her baby has turned into a fractious 2-year-old, a slovenly 9-year-old, and then a raucous teen. So far so ordinary--but this is one persistent lady. When her son grows up and leaves home, she takes to driving across town with a ladder on the car roof, climbing through her grown son's window, and rocking the sleeping man in the same way. Then, inevitably, the day comes when she's too old and sick to hold him, and the roles are at last reversed. Each stage is illustrated by one of Sheila McGraw's comic and yet poignant pastels. 4-0 out of 5 stars love you forever
I found i love you forever to be a very true tale of a mothers love. Throughout the story the boy goes throught lifes many changes and phases, continuely disobeying his mothers wishes only to find himself in his mother arms everynight, as she recites the same poem expressing her unconditional love. At storys end the tables turn and a heartwarming turn of events is expressed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sweet message, but not our favorite
This book really does have a nice message about unconditional love that a parent has for a child. For that I give it major kudos. On the other hand it is a bit sappy and maudlin for my taste.I agree that the mom showing up at the son's house is a bit strange, but it is a children's book. It's not supposed to be entirely realistic.I think (hope) that part is supposed to be more symbolic.I think the illustrations in this book are so-so and pretty uninspiring. However, it really is a sweet story and there's no harm in having this in your collection of kids books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tear for tear, it is a beauty

5-0 out of 5 stars Hillarious story of a determined little girl to go a mall.
Where is Gah-Ning? is a terrific story for all ages. My 6 year old has loved it for 2 years now,and her 15 month old sister likes it too, especially when read in different voices. Gah-Ning is like many little girls, determined to get to where she wants to go, whether or not her father says no! Additionally, the story takes place in Canada, and my daughter has looked up Kapukasing on a map, and is learning aboutCanada and its cultures. We look forward to reading more books by Robert Munsch. I could really relate to this book because when I first read it, I was in a new environment too.The story is really real, and Munsch is one of my favourite authors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly touching!
I am a teacher in a daycare and I work with children who come from different backgrounds and cultures all over the world. I have probably read this book fifty times and it still makes me cry. The kids think I'm nuts ... Read more
