4-0 out of 5 stars Like a Treasure Chest in an Old Attic
I started reading Nancy Drew mysteries in the late 1960s, so most of the books I read had already been updated.I did always seem to prefer the older versions when I could get my hands on them, because I loved the illustrations, but I did not know that even the older versions I read were condensed versions of the original books that were written in the 1930s.Thus, when I found the collectors' edition for sale on Amazon, I just had to make the purchase. Was it worth it?I discovered that I already had copies of most of the mysteries on my bookshelf, which meant that even though the stories were slightly different, it was not like reading a completely new mystery, so I was slightly disappointed on that count. On the other hand, the illustrations in these books are superb, and the old-timey dialogue and character descriptions really make me feel like I have stepped back in time, or maybe just found a treasure chest in an old attic, so I would have to say that yes, it was worth it.In sum, if you have already read the titles in the collectors' edition and you aren't much for re-runs in general, then maybe this Amazon purchase is not for you.But if you used to be or still are a big Nancy Drew fan, and/or if you just have a thing for things of the past, then I think you will love this lovely collection of Nancy Drew mysteries. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars They are ok...
These books are ok. Just not my preference. They just don't have the same feel as other Nancy Drew, they seem to have lowered the maturity level off Nancy and upped the mature relationship between Nancy and Ned. It's still fun to read but just not the Nancy Drew I know. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally worth reading
I read this in about one day, it may not have been exactly the most action-filled book, but it just somehow keeps me excited. It is hard to get up and use the bathroom, when you are reading this. I do think that anyone who likes Nancy Drew and Mystery should read this, it's one of the best so far that I have read.

4-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Of The Series
This review concerns the original 1944 edition and the revised 1970 edition which closely follows the plot of the original, with a few small changes.Elderly Mr. March approachs Nancy seeking her help to find his deceased son's unpublished sheet music.Mr. March desperately needs the money to care for his granddaughter, Susan.Unfortunately, a thief has been secretly entering the March house and stealing whatever songs that he can find and publishing them himself.I really enjoyed this book. In my opinion, it is the second or third best of the series (I can't decide between it and The Bungalow Mystery; The Hidden Staircase is my #1).I found it to be well-written, highly descriptive, and had quite a bit of action. The climax of the book, when Nancy finally finds the music and is confronted by the thief, is perhaps the best scene of the series for its originality, excitement and suspense. The only thing that I did not like about this book, was how the thief was caught because Nancy had pretty much nothing to do with actually capturing him.

5-0 out of 5 stars you'll relish this one
As a child I delighted in the Nancy Drew series, and I've re-read the books at various times since."The Secret in the Old Attic" is a well-plotted, satisfying thriller in which Nancy finds the manuscripts for some songs which will help to restore the fortunes of her elderly friend, Mr. March, and his young granddaughter.Nancy's chums, plump and frilly Bess and her tomboyish cousin, George, help Nancy in her investigations.Hannah Gruen is on hand to provide cocoa and comfort. Nancy sits down at the piano and plays some of the songs, demonstrating yet another of her fine abilities.

5-0 out of 5 stars TAKE MY WORD> THIS BOOK IS GOOD
i loved this book a lot. BEsides the nancy and frank aspect, there was a lot of action, bombs, knives, terrorsits etc..of course the nancy frank thing convinced me to buy the book, but i enjoyed the mystery a lot too. I also likes how nancy is portrayed in this book, not like in Operation titanic or royal revenge, she is very clever. also Unlke all other super mysteries, Frank's thoughts and feelings are portrayed deeper than all other characthers. And there are some funnny things and comments going on between the brothers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nancy and Frank Forever
I think that Nancy and Frank should dump their boyfriends and girlfriends and stay together. I mean they are obviosly perfect for each other. The best parts are when they almost kiss. But when they kiss, that was good too!!! This is the best book ever!!! ... Read more

Well, I usually enjoy the nancy drew stories alot. But this one didn't have a very good plot. Some parts I really liked and it made me want to keep turning the page, but most of it wasn't like that. I think 3 stars suits **THIS** book. Not all the other ones in the series. 4-0 out of 5 stars Book Review: The Clue in the Jewel book
The Clue in the Jewel Box by Carolyn Keene was an exciting novel. It is part of the Nancy Drew series. It was a little slow getting into the mystery, but after the mystery part of the book got started, it got really good.It was definitely a cliffhanger.Nancy helps a former queen from Europe find her long lost grandson. Before long, Nancy finds the prince, or so she thinks. Nancy catches the prince taking small amounts of money from the queen, Mrs. Alexandria. Her grandson is also has very bad manners for a prince. What's going on with the prince?Read the book to find out! If you enjoy this suspenseful book, be sure to read the rest of the series! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The secret of the spa is a really HOT book
This book was published in March of 2005, so it is reallly recent. In it, there is a new spa opening in river heights, and the owner is Nnacy's father's client.Mr. Drew got free all day V.I.P passes to the grand-opening, and Nancy and Bess can't wait to go, although George is really reluctant. When they get there, though, there's a mystery: someone's trying to sabotage the spa. But, who?Nancy wants to find out, and like usual, NOTHING'S going to stop her.The sabotages include heat turned way up in the sauna room, meat in the all vegetarian menu, and cockroaches in the mud bath.I bought this book as soon as it came out, and I don't regret spending the money.I give this book 5 stars. ... If your daughter likes chapter books and solving puzzles; then this is a great book for her. The characters come to life and have separate personalities. The stories are simple and fun. I finish one and my daughter immediately wants another book. If I get through all the ones I order online then she wants me to re-read them. They have about 8 chapters so I make it last a week with 2 chapters on the last night. I started my daughter out when she was 3, on the old Raggedy Ann and Andy chapter books which are in reprint now. She had a little bit of a hard time going from a book with all pictures to a book where you imagine most of it. The Nancy Drew stories were a little hard to get started on because her complaint was that the pictures (1 or 2 per chapter) are all black and white drawings. I told her that she can look at the cover to see the color picture. Once she heard the first chapter, she didn't care if it had pictures or not. She was hooked. You know I liked these books so well I just bought my daughter's school a set of 10 for their library. They are really good. If you want your child to start early on reading get them started on this series. I hope that one day my daughter will be reading them to me. :o) Enjoy! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Book ^.^
I really don't see how people think this book is awful, but people have different opinions. Anyways, this book was a good one. It leaves you suspensed. Some people might not think that but I loved this book!
1-0 out of 5 stars NANCY DREW what has become of you?
Nancy Drew this is NOT. If you are a fan of the old series, the Files Series, even the the Notebook series, you will really hate this new incarnation. Never have I seen a publisher try as hard to alienate fans and try to disolve a classic children's series as they have with this new detective they call Nancy Drew. Where is our girl sleuth? Well, in this version she is forgetful, annoying, childish, and lacks direction, focus and intelligence. Her relationship with her father has become somewhat trivial. Her housekeeper is on the verge of senility. Her best friends, Bess Marvin (now a mechanic) and George Fayne (now a computer geek) have totally changed focus and drive. And Ned, her constant steady, is only a brief mention. I am appalled and disappointed in the first 15 books of this series and have found no redeming value to it as a work of fiction let alone as a sorce for the continuation of this much loved series. If this is how the publishers wish the direction of Nancy Drew to proceed in the future I would say to them 'stop the series' and let the past editions stand on their merit without tarnishing its reputation as a hallmark in series books. This is not what Edward Stratemeyer and his family envisioned Nancy Drew to become. I am disappointed beyond belief.

4-0 out of 5 stars A mysterious message
I liked the book "Nancy Drew and the Mysterious Mannequin" because I like mystery books. This one was exciting because it had so many details, twist and turns, and surprises. At the beginning of the story, Nancy's father, Carson Drew, receives a beautiful rug with a hidden message about a missing mannequin.Nancy is excited about the mystery and asks her friends to help her try to find out where the mannequin is now and why it has been hidden all this time. This takes them on an adventure around Riverdale and then around the world. The friends end up travelling to Istanbul, Turkey where someone getskidnapped and.... well, I won't ruin it for you but it was great!

1-0 out of 5 stars Nancy Tours Turkey
A woven Oriental rug is anonymously sent to the Drews from Istanbul and Mr. Drew believes that it is from a Turkish client of his, Farouk Tahmasp, who formerly owned a rug shop in River Heights.Nancy discovers a coded message woven into the rug.The message instructs Mr. Drew to bring Farouk's mannequin to Istanbul and Nancy tries to learn what became of the mannequin after Farouk closed his shop in River Heights.I didn't find the mystery in this book terribly exciting and there really wasn't much action or suspence either.Toward the end of the book, when Nancy and her friends go to Istanbul and the book should be coming to a climax, what do they do?They go sightseeing and the book turns into a tour guide with about one chapter left. There is a different twist at the end of the book, but if you paid enough attention when reading the book and didn't fall asleep you could probably figure that out anyway. This isn't one of the absolute worst books of the series, but it isn't far from it.

5-0 out of 5 stars You won't believe the ending !!
I chose this book because I love mystery books and I really love Nancy Drew Books.A summary of the book is ....Farock sends a rug with a hidden message in it to Carson Drew.Nancy Drew decides to make it a case and find out what it says. The rug wanted Carson Drew to come to Istanbul, with Farock's manniquin. 4-0 out of 5 stars I think it was a goood book from my school library
I think it was a good book, but when Nancy found clues in all the books that I've read, it was the most interesting. One that I really liked was called the "Sercret at Solaire".I read alot of Nancy Drew booksfrom my school library. But the Soccer Shoe Clue was one of the best. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book!
I loved the book!It was really nice reading it.I read itmore times than just once.I really really really like it.I like camps; and it was a little more interesting than "Puppy Problems" even thought I loved that too.I thought Bess was kind of funny in this story, because she doesn't like a boy named David Mulholland.I think you'll enjoy reading it too.

    4-0 out of 5 stars I agree
[....] I liked this book but didn't love it. It was a little predictable as compared to the others in the series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Trouble at Camp Treehouse by Carolyn Keene
If you like camps you will like this book.It is one of those books that will keep you up a night reading. The "mystery" is not too hard for the recommended age group, but not too childish for an older child toread. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read!!!! :)
This is definitely the best book in the Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys series... :) Don't listen to anybody if they say it stunk, becuz it is really good! It has alot of Nancy/Frank stuff, and has TONS of action... I don't think you could get any more action in a book. I have read this book 4 times, and I still don't get tired of reading it! :) The thing that makes it really good is the close calls... and this book has ALOT of them! If you like a very suspenseful book, this is the one for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Shock Waves
It was an interesting mystery filled with excitement, romance and a good mystery. I would recomend this book to anybody who likes mysterys, treasure hunts, islands of mysterys and romance.

    3-0 out of 5 stars Joe's keys
I think the best part was when Iola's keys were stolen, and how Joe reacted. It was great because he'll never forget her, no matter how many girlfriends he has. I loved this one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool Book!
It was a neat book. Nancy and George go on a wilderness trek and when things get suspicious, Nancy calles in the Hardys. It had lots of excitement though it didn't really have any romance. I especially like theway they meet. It's funny. I also like when they were in they raft. Icouldn't put it down and I definatly reccomend it.-RJG,12
