Editorial Review

After reading this book, I guarantee that you will never visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art (or any wonderful, old cavern of a museum) without sneaking into the bathrooms to look for Claudia and her brother Jamie. They're standing on the toilets, still, hiding until the museum closes and their adventure begins.Such is the impact of timeless novels . . . they never leave us. E. L. Konigsburg won the 1967 Newbery Medal for this tale of how Claudia and her brother run away to the museum in order to teach their parents a lesson. Little do they know that mystery awaits! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This book is great so far. It is full of mystery and adventure. Twelve year old Claudia has run away with her brother Jamie to the Metropilan Muesum of Art. Claudia decided to bring along her brother Jamie with her because he has a lot of money. While they are there at the muesum, Claudia and Jamie come across a great mystery in the muesum that is all over the newspaper. If you would like to find out what this great mystery read this book! Teachers it is also a great book to read with your class. Also edutactional!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not mixed-up about how good this book is
This Newbery award winner is about Claudia and Jamie, two kids who run away from home. They leave the suburbs and head to New York where they stay in none other than the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They sleep in an old bed in the French section. They hide in the bathrooms. They even take baths in a fountain (and get paid for it, sort of)!But when a new exhibit comes in, the fun really starts. The Angel is beautiful, exquisite, and mysterious. The question: is the sculpture really done by Michelangelo? Claudia and Jamie will do anything to find out. I think I loved the book mostly because I really liked the idea of living in a museum. This book is good for all ages, but I expected it to be longer.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Story
I remember this from my own childhood favorites and am now reading it with my daughter--

5-0 out of 5 stars Explains the concept of a new baby to young children!
Can you imagine how confusing it must be for a young child who has just gained a sibling? There must be so many feelings that often go unexplained. They may think, "Is this new baby here to replace me?" or "Why isn't mommy playing with me anymore?"

5-0 out of 5 stars We love little Critter!
We've got a whole set of LIttle Critter books that we've had for years and years. My oldest loved them when he was small and now he reads them to his kid. This book is great for your little critter who's learning to potty train! Warm, friendly, and inviting text, a book to pass down through all your kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Can't Go Wrong With Little Critter"
We are huge fans of Little Critter, so I knew we couldn't go wrong with The New Potty. The story contains typical elements found in many potty books: introduction to the new potty, playing with the new potty, accidents, transition to underpants, and eventual success. What sets all Mayer books apart? The critters talk and act like real life children. And the illustrations are a hoot!Such as the look of terror on Little's Sisters face when greeted with the pink "Critter Potty."Or Little Critter hollering for Mom when his sister misses the potty and almost wets his foot. And that pet mouse...5-0 out of 5 stars Worried That Your Child Will Never Use the Toilett?
We bought this book as well as several other books, when we noticed our child wasn't buying into our advice about how convenient it is for him as well as his parents that he use the toilett, we resorted to this method and it seemed to work all by itself with little influence from the adults. We simply sat down and read it to him and voila.. it worked. I have no idea which book hat the most influence but this was one of them. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Frances does it again!
Another great book from the Frances series by Russell Hoban. In this episode, Frances's friend Albert is not very interested in playing with her, especially because she is a girl, so Frances turns to her sister Gloria for a playmate. When Frances and Gloria plan a "best friends" outing complete with an enormous picnic lunch, Albert reconsiders the wisdom of not being friends with girls. I like this one both for the positive development of the sometimes-difficult relationship between Frances and her little sister Gloria, but also for the portrayal of girls who like to play baseball and catch frogs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Our favorite Frances book
My family is fairly unanimous that this is our favorite Frances book (with "A Birthday For Frances" the likely runner up.) Frances both stands up to being excluded and learns not to do the same thing herself; her anger at Albert is realistic and her "revenge" funny but not cruel; and everyone resolves their conflicts in a friendly way. The wording of the exchanges between Frances and Albert is exquisitely well done, I think: Hoban expresses such nuances in language that gets through to even small children. And last but not least, Frances's little songs are always hilarious and this book has some of the best ones of all, which my 2-year-old daughter has learned by heart.

5-0 out of 5 stars Big sister Frances
Frances doesn't think she can be friends with her littlesister, but learns her lesson when the two actually become bestfriends.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars One of my 2-year-old's favorites
This is a great book for toddler boys. The illustrations are colorful and fun, and the boy's fascination with diggers certainly rings true. There's also a touching angle about the boy sharing with and teaching his baby brother - a cute little story w/ a nice message. For those who like this I also recommend Dig, Dig, Digging and Emergency! - two great books featuring fun rhymes, terrific illustrations and lots of machines and cool vehicles that little boys love.

5-0 out of 5 stars cute book
I bought this book for my son who is 19 months. He has a baby brother who is 6 months old and he is very much fascinated with big machines. It's a cute story about a little boy who dreams of buying a digger. The little boy has a baby brother who he imagines will watch him while he operates his digger and maybe even take a ride with him while he works. They will push mud, dig holes and make parks with the digger. The drawings are cute and the story line simple but for toddlers it's perfect.

5-0 out of 5 stars My 3 Year Old Loves It!
This book is great for your little truck lover. It's perfect for my sons short attention span.Great pictures and concise wording. The boy in the book dreams of buying his own digger some day and even takes his little brother along for a ride, in our case I substitute sister. Highly recommend. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars At least one place the Magic School Bus will never traipse
Joanna Cole has done so much for children's literature in her lifetime that it is difficult to speak of noteworthy non-fiction titles for kids without bringing up her name. She's the genius behind the simultaneously fun and factual, "Magic School Bus" series. She has tackled "issue" topics, such as children having to deal with more siblings. She's even collected jump rope rhymes, potty trained our youngsters, written comprehensive books full of recommended folktales, and much much more. One of her greatest accomplishments, however, was the creation of the go-to sex-ed book for tots, "How You Were Born".Though not a perfect source, the book is extraordinarily careful to avoid confusion or factual misinformation. For children too old for such beginning texts as "Where Willy Went" by Nicholas Allan or "Mommy Laid An Egg" by Babette Cole, "How You Were Born" is the most sophisticated and comprehensive of these three. It is also the most reliable.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Beginning for the That Difficult Talk
Every parent dreads that moment. You know the one I mean- that moment when your child begins to ask about S-E-X.This book is a wonderful aid to help you through it.4-0 out of 5 stars Fun, factual and reverent... what more could a mommy want?
This book is a fun, low-key, high-quality way to introduce kids to the miracles of development and birth.Mine (6 and 7) were less interested in the pictures of actual babies as they were in those of the developing fetuses, and their long looks over each page allowed plenty of time for my narration -- about how much each of them was wanted, about how amazing it is that a real baby can be so tiny, and so on.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Absolute Best Book Ever
This is an awesome book for any 2-3 year old, big sibling. The poor mother's haggard face is a sight to behold. My daughter loved it...especially the end where she came to realize that it is her duty to teach everything she knows to her baby brother. My daughter is now 4 and still likes to have this one read to her.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome sibbling book!
I love this book for my 3-year old daughter.I purchased this book when she was just beginning to walk and talk because the story and illustrations were amazingly true to life. I believe this book helped my daughter see her own potential as she was learning to walk, stomp her feet, and eat spaghetti. Great up-beat rhythm that is fun for both of us.For our next baby, I plan to keep reading this book so my daughter understands that she will be the "big sister" one day. "Hey, Little Baby!" is one book that is very much a part of our lives. Highly recommend this book and often share it as a great, sibbling book with friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Adorable Book
Very rarely a book comes along that a parent doesn't mind reading over and over again! My 3 year old daughter and 1 year old son both love this book. The illustrations are so incredibly cute...my daughter loves pointing outall the details in the pictures...the cat being her favorite character. It's easy for me to relate to the expressions of the mother, and the storysums up the life and antics of an older sibling to a T.We got this forour daugher shortly before our son was born and she's yet to tire of it. I'd definitely recommend purchasing this book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A child's reaction to adoption
David is the only son (adopted himself) in his family, until Mom and Dad start talking about adopting a baby from Korea. He's not sure how to feel about it, even though he told his parents he was "okay."He watches as his parents prepare for his new brother's arrival with a beautiful nursery and a special dinner before going to the airport to wait for Jin Woo.The escort encourages the parents not to forget Jin Woo's cultural heritage as he grows up.The story concludes with David reading a letter "from Jin Woo" and a discussion with his parents about how their love for him will not decrease, even though there is another son in their lives.
5-0 out of 5 stars ABeautiful TouchingBook
As a family with a child who was adopted from Guatemala, we always look for adoptive family stories. We knew this would be good because Eve Bunting is already one of our favorites. But this lovely book exceeded our expectations. The words were beautiful and the pictures were so wonderful. As we were reading it, all the adults were teary eyed. The next day, we reread it and our little 8 year old was as interested as the day before, and her Godfather, an artist himself ,was amazed at how the pictures show the detail and the emotion in the family so beautifully and so clearly. We recommend it wholeheartedly.

4-0 out of 5 stars A sibling's story of adoption
Eve Bunting, thepopular children's author has written this book about a boy named David's feelings when his new brother, Jin Woo, arrives from Korea. David, who is Caucasian like his parents, wonders if there was as much anticipation and fanfare when he was adopted. He deals with mixed feelings as his parents get the phone call and they all drive to the airport to pick up Jin Woo. He thinks he's happy about the new arrival, but he's unsure about what changes the baby will bring, and if his parents will have still have enough time & love for him. (When his mother says "I can't wait for the baby to arrive," David thinks, "I can wait. I could wait longer.")Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you are a parent of a little boy then you will love this!
While the statue may not be familiar here in the US, anyone who is the parent of a little boy will laugh out loud at this book.Little boys just want to be like their dads and this book shows the hillarious things that happen when a little boy tries to pee standing up.Although his aim does get better with practice, the recipients of his misses may not appreciate it.I am the mom of a 5 yr old boy, who missed many times and I loved this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My twins love this book!
I started reading this book to my girls when they were about 13 months old. It soon became their favorite - they sit still (unusually so!) and listen, and smile at the parts they like best. It is so much fun to see them respond to the simple phrases, because they can understand them. One daughter likes "Two little babies play outside" best, the other likes the swinging "up, down, up." They are now 15 months old, and this is by far the book they choose the most.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simple and charming
This book describes the challenges of parenting for two.The text is short (only about 125 words), simple, and rhyming. The pictures are quite fun. There are no scary parts. The pages are thick- -almost like a board book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT BOOK FOR ALL CHILDREN
This is by far my twin girls favorite book. With at least 50 books in their "library" this is the ONLY book my girls want to read over and over and over again. My twin girls are almost 2 and I bought this book months ago (when they were around 15-18 months old). Not only do they love to hear me read this book they read it back to me!One night (when she was supposed to be sleeping) I heard one of my girls saying "up, down, up, down...", I peeked in on her and found her reading it to herself in the dark. They love it and I LOVE the fact that they love to read it to themselves.I started reading this book to them and animating the pages, saying Hi to the mommy and to the bears, ball, books and anything that they recognized in the pictures. At the time we first started reading it, the girls didn't talk but they knew signs, and the first time we read it they recognized the bath in the story and did the sign for bath, it was amazing. When they bring this book to me now (for me to read) they know what is going on in the story with out me even saying it.It is how they learned the words "up" and "down" and "jammies".This book really just reinforces things they already know (like bath, ball, outside, mommy, daddy and book) and is a great addition to any childs book collection.I would really recommend this book even for the smallest child, it is illustrated in such big colorful pictures and has short text on each page it is sure to keep their attention.A MUST BUY! ...
