5-0 out of 5 stars Book Review
This book written by Dia L. Michels can serve a parent in a variety of ways.It is an excellent readaloud for a younger nonreading child who can engage in a guessing game based upon picture clues. The book can also serve as a beginning reader for the emerging reader in your family. There are no more than 2 sentences on a page with a limited vocabulary and picture clues that will help the reader to understand the contents. The book tells a story of a family trip around the neighborhood from the baby's point of view. Colorful photographs enhance the text and make the book pleasing to view.A good addition to any family library. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Little Fern's Story is a Hit with Young Readers!
This is a charming story of a young rabbit who learns about winter and family love. Fern wants to play, but Mother Rabbit is building a nest in the burrow for the upcoming winter. Mother Rabbit sends Fern to play with her brother, Bracken. During a game of hide and go seek, Fern cannot find Bracken. While looking for him, she learns how many different animals prepare for the upcoming winter. As snow begins to fall, Fern frantically searches for Bracken. The outcome is pleasant, and the whole family settles down for winter. The illustrations are colorful and wonderfully done, and they help the reader walk through the story with ease. Suitable for young readers, this book has large, easy to read text and a delightful plot.

Editorial Review

5-0 out of 5 stars Humphrey's Bedtime is so sweet
I got this as a baby shower gift for a friend who's having her first child and they plan to have a lot more...But this story is an endearing rendition of "I'm older than you and I don't have to do what you have to do before bedtime."The pictures are soft and adorable and the fact that they are elephants is just so cute.I love this story.Sally Hunter brings to life the bedtime ritual of Humphrey and his older sister. And as Humphrey is settling into his nighttime routines his sister appears to be having difficulty in realizing that she too must get ready for bed.I find it particularly amuzing that she has trouble with her dollies and finally succombs to the idea that bed isn't so bad.So sweet.A must for any library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Humphrey's Bedtime
I have all 3 books Sally Hunter has released so far. The stories are simple, yet they hold your attention. The pictures are beautiful. They really make me remember what it was like to be a small child. My son has been enjoying theses books since we found them at a book store over a year ago. He is now 4 and continues to love them. I will preorder Sallys' books as long as she writes them. I hope for a collection! They are simply my favorite books.

5-0 out of 5 stars We love this book!
This is a fun book for new siblings (there's a sister version, too).I've given several as new baby gifts to the siblings. My son has one now that he's a big brother, too.The personalization makes it really special for the kids.Especially appropriate for ages 3-8, but will work for younger siblings, too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Teaching Tool
All children are different. My daughter started using her potty the day after I first read this book to her. She seems to be able to relate well to the characters and situations. I would prefer if it was a little more sturdy like a board book...after 2 weeks it's just about disintegrated from use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Potty Training Book!
My daughter and I love this book!It gets straight to the point, has great pictures for my daughter, and is realistic.I checked out the library's copy so often I figured I needed to buy my own.

5-0 out of 5 stars your new potty

5-0 out of 5 stars Adorable and Realistic
We are expecting a baby boy this winter and my daughter Sophie truly enjoyed this book! It not only deals with the emotions of an older sibling but begins with how long the wait is anticipating the birth of a younger sibling.

5-0 out of 5 stars Toddlers expecting siblings
My 2 1/2 year old loves this book.It gives us a chance to talk about all aspects of having a new baby:the waiting, the coming, the aftermath. We told her about our new baby very early in the pregnancy so it's helpful to have a book that talks about waiting through all those seasons until it finally arrives!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this book
As a mom of a girl about Sophie's age, I have a hard time reading this book without getting teary. It is so well-written and sweet. I love how the story covers the length of the pregnancy...from the Spring in which the parents tell Sophie that a baby is coming, until the following Spring..the end of the "fourth trimester." I also love how it shows the variety of realistic emotions that the older child would feel. The illustrations are wonderful too. My daughter asks me to read this to her, and then we talk about how she will relate to Sophie when her baby sister comes in a few months. I highly, highly recommend this book. I have read a lot of books on this subject, and this is one of the best. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for siblings....
This book is a great story for families with small children, especially families where younger children are always trying to copy everything that the older ones do. My daughter was given this book by her preschool teacher. My wife and I thought it was funny at the time, but it perfectly describes the relationship between our two oldest daughters (both of which LOVE this book!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Boomba!
I picked this book up because I love penguins and enjoy reading children's literature. I found the story to be quite engaging. The book is filled with bright illustrations that enliven the normally drab colors usually associated with polar bears and penguins. The story is about two brother penguins. The older brother is 5 and is named Flip and the younger brother is 2 and is named Flop. They enjoy playing games and having fun together and they love each other very much. However, sometimes Flip finds Flop annoying and wants to do his own thing. The story is somewhat sad at this point, but soon turns around as Flop meets a new friend and is eventually reconciled with his brother. This would be a great story to read together to siblings. It made me think of all the times I spent playing with my youngest brother. A good story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect book to make a 2 yr old smile!!BOOMBA
We came across this book by accident but haven't put it down since. It is just perfect. The pictures are adorable, the colors are bright but even moreso it's the story that we love.It doesn't have anything scary like so many kids books, esp fairy tales. It doesn't tell some long lesson that goes over the childs head.It just tells the story about 2 little penguins who are brothers, 2 and 5, and the silly games they play and how sometimes the older brother wants to play with his own friend instead. But it's ok because the little penguin finds a new friend his own age.And in the end they all play together.Usually when I read children stories to my little guy, I change a lot of the words to make them engaging to him but this book was exactly right, and I didn't need to change a thing. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Without a hurt the heart is hollow
Children's picture books about September 11th cover a huge range, from overly simplistic and insulting ("Fireboat" by Maira Kalman) to touching but vague salutes ("The Man Who Walked Between the Towers" by Mordecai Gerstein)."September Roses" is perhaps most remarkable because it is one of the few picture books to acknowledge the small acts of heroism that came out of a horrific unthinkable day. It's a book that remains complex and difficult to review if only because I'm still not certain what to think of it.Making 9-11 into something palatable to five-year-olds is a tricky proposition as it is.But while I may have my qualms with this book, I will concede that it's probably an okay way to introduce the subject of September 11th to one's children.

I remember this book from when I was a little kid.I clearly remember the story - the older bother exploring the many ways he could get his hands on some maple sugar.I also remember the cool, yet simple, pictures that graced the inside pages. My mother must have red the book to me a thousand times and that is why I just had to have a copy of my own.I might even give it to my nephews.Maybe not.^_^
