5-0 out of 5 stars Educational and Fun
My 3 year old daughter loves it.It explains the process at a level she can understand.Great when used with the Butterfly Garden.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Butterfly Book for Preschool-Third Grade
I am the director of a lower school (pre-k-2nd) and we have used this book for years. It is the perfect way to introduce children to the wonderful world of metamorphosis. And if you can also actually get the Painted Lady Butterflies and "grow" them in your class, it is an invaluable experience. We have our children keep journals and then buy them each a copy of this great book (it's cheap in paperback) and they get to keep the experience forever. One correction to another review: painted ladies and all butterflies do spin chrysalids, not cocoons. They look similar, but the chrysalis usually has little specks of gold in it, which is where the name comes from. Yes I am a huge fan of this book--and a huge fan of butterflies. This author also has a lovely book about honeybees, called Honeybees.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE Book to accompany Butterfly Houses, Pavillions
We got this book in addition to a home "Butterfly Pavillion" by InsectLore. It prepared my son and us for what to expect as the Painted Lady Butterflies were developing through each stage. So even duringthe lulls in the action, we could spark some anticipation. Which heightened the whole process for my 5 year old. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughte LOVES this book!
My daughter is 14 months old and she absolutely loves this book. She pages through it over and over again. We have a pile of about 20 books for her to "read" and this is always the first book she grabs. She points to the bugs and we say the name and then she'll turn the page and continue. She loves the bright color pages.I just wish it came in board book version, because she's wearing out the pages. She is just one, so she's a little rough on paper pages. ;)I love the page in the back that teaches you about the insects.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bugs! Bugs! Bugs!
If you are a parent of a younger child looking for an educational book on bugs you should check out"Bugs! Bugs! Bugs!" by Bob Barner. When finding a book for very young children there are many things to look at, such as the use of bright colors to catch their attention, thick pages that won't tear easily, and large, easy-to-read typeface."Bugs! Bugs! Bugs!" accomplishes all of these.5-0 out of 5 stars A Best Loved Book

5-0 out of 5 stars But Where do Caterpillars Come From?

5-0 out of 5 stars Color,color,color!
As usual, Lois Ehlert stimulates and educates the young reader about the mysteries of caterpillars to butterflies. Not only are the colors absolutely stunning, she provides factual information about different species. This book was a fabulous preparation for my classroom of small children as they watched their own caterpillars prepare for their magical transformation!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Life's Journey
Waiting for Wings is a picture book showing the life cycle of a butterfly. The story uses tantalizing pictures and simple words to explain how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly. The book takes the reader through the stages of the caterpillar's life. Once the caterpillar has become a butterfly the story changes to how a butterfly lives its life. The illustrations pull the reader into this book. The print is large and easy to read for young reader. The text also rhymes for two pages at a time. As the caterpillar grows the pages become larger, until the butterfly hatches. As the butterfly begins its flight the pages are full size. The illustrations and page sizes are wonderful for young readers. This book also contains identification pages on butterflies and the flowers they eat.

5-0 out of 5 stars Create life-long memories with your children or grandchildren
Mesmorizing & magical. These poems are fun to read with kids ... for both kid and adult ... because the interplay of sounds is magical. And for the adults, there is deeper meaning to savor and be mesmorized by for long after the last page is turned. I read these with my kids over a decade ago, Just re-found the book and read them again with them a decade later and they smiled ear to ear at the memory of reading it together so long ago, and loved doing it again, but this time at a deeper level.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great poetry to read with a friend!
I like this book because it's a fun way to learn about insects. You can also read it with a friend. My favorite part about the book was the poem called Water Boatman. It's m favorite because it was very funny. I also liked the one called Honeybees because you got to use two different personalities. The queen bee had a wonderful life and the worker bee has a hard life and hates being a bee. I would recommend this book to my teachers as a learning book about poetry and insects.
3-0 out of 5 stars Don't Read Alone
Don't pick this book of poetry up unless you are with someone else who wants to read it too. This book is meant to be read aloud by two people at the same time, if you try reading it silently it gets very boring. If you are into performance and like to practice reading things aloud, then this book is great. As a future school teacher I have seen a lot of possibilities come from this book. Some struggling reader could be motivated to practice quite a bit by this book if they have a partner to read with (parent, classmate, friend, etc.), but it is not at all entertaining to read in any other way than with "two voices." ... 4-0 out of 5 stars super spiders
Synopsis - Spiders is a nonfiction book.Readers will learn where the name spider came from, characteristics, and how they live. Gibbons demonstrates the changes that spiders go through as they grow. She also examines the variety of webs that different spiders make. Finally, the reader will learn about ways spiders catch insects and the habits of some particularly unusual spiders.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference
I read this book 2 years in a row for Spiders week at preschool. If you skip the history part, you're good! But its got a good reference book that is understandable at this age level. It talks about sizes, shapes and different webs. Very few non fiction books out there can be adapted for this age level with a variety of understanding---understanding this. But this is one of those books---and the kids love it too. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bee-siest Field Trip of All Time
"The Magic School Bus: Inside a Beehive" represents a slight departure for author, Joanna Cole, and illustrator, Bruce Degen.Written in 1996, this book could easily have been all about our friends, the insects.Because, as student Dorothy Ann explains in the opening pages, "There are more insect species on earth than all other animals put together!"Indeed, you need look no farther than your own backyard (or a few dusty corners of your home) to find bugs of all shapes and sizes crawling around, buzzing about, and foraging for food.
4-0 out of 5 stars More Science!
My son is 4 years old and we read to him a lot. Now, before bed, he announces, "Mom, you know what kind of book to read....ONLY SCIENCE!"He loves science, and the Magic School Bus is a great, fun way to introduce it, even to a preschooler!

4-0 out of 5 stars Beekeeper's Review
Kids (of all ages) ask the darndest things. When we work fairs or are identified as beekeepers in public, we are bomberded with basic questions regarding honeybees. This book was bought for my mother as much as for mybrother's son. He asks her questions difficult to answer without pictures,"How do bees make wax...?" This book goes into enough detail toanswer all the "How do...?'s" likely to come up regardinghoneybees. A fine book for any child interested in insects. Also a goodselection to temper the fears of those children that may fear bees. Thepages are a little busy, otherwise would have gotten 5 stars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful Butterfly Book!
This book is truely a great book for kids. Not only is it educational but it is also fun.Kids can try to find the letters that are hidden in the butterflys wings. They can take that and use it when they see butterflys around the yard.I'm an elementary education major in college and I woulddefinitely use this in my future classroom for a unit on butterflys, andalso just as a fun book. In the back of the book information is provided onall the butterflys and moths that are in the book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Factual, but poor rhyming
This is not one of the best books in the series. While it is factual, the rhyming is sloppy--in one stanza a word is rhymed with itself and in another stanza, the word from the beginning of the next phrase is placed at the end of another phrase so that the stanza will rhyme. All in all, this type of sloppy rhyming is extremely disappointing coming from the "Cat in the Hat"!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun!
I bought this book for my 4-year old son and he loves it!My husband and I love reading it to him and his baby sister who often also listens along. The book is educational yet great fun to read with its rhyming and fun verses. It teaches without being heavy-handed and even taught us, theparents, a thing or two we didn't know about the insect world! We allenjoy this book tremendously and love the other Cat in the Hat Learningseries books as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Insects thank Cat in the Hat for good PR
I got this book for a 4 yr old daughter of a friend and she's now intrigued by the insect world. Personally I love how the bumble bee illustration has taught her about how bees communicate through the bumblebee "dance." On the whole, it's nicely educational on anintroductory level -- general facts/concepts are taught throughillustrations and rhyme. Great for the young ones.
