1-0 out of 5 stars The worst translation I've ever seen
This is a put-down to the Spanish language. It is literally translated- word-for-word, and obviously that does not work with any kind of translation. The translator has to use his/her disgression to transmit the message through whatever type of mediumthey are working with.In this case, Dr. Seuss's writing is playful and rhyming- this translation does not do this book any justice. They should really never have published this.Even as a non-native speaker of Spanish, I know that this translation is not well-done.My suggestion-- go read "Huevos verdes con jamon", which is wonderful.

1-0 out of 5 stars AWFUL TRANSLATION!!!
We first bought "Huevos Verdes con Jamon" an excellent translation of "Green Eggs and Ham."The translator, Aida E. Marcuse, managed to play with the wording to retain the "Seussian" rhyme, rhythm, and whimsy.Based on that, we bought this bilingual edition without inspecting it first--big mistake!
1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible, useless
Not only does this lose all the wit and charm of the original, it's not even very good as a Spanish primer.I can't imagine a real Spanish speaker using this kind of convoluted syntax. If you're looking for a fun Spanish children's book to read, then "Huevos Verdes con Jamon" (Green Eggs and Ham) is a much better choice, as well as many of the other Aida Marcuse translations. If what you want is a good vocabulary-builder transliteration, try the Spanish versions of P.D. Eastman's Books ("Corre, Perro Corre!" or "Eres tu Mi Mama?").Anything but this. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Adorable book!
My 3 month old seems to really enjoy this book. Each of the kitties pictured are so cute. She isn't really into all the touchy/feely parts of the book yet, but I'm sure that when she is she'll love this book even more!

5-0 out of 5 stars Get this book!
My daughter picked this book out herself when she was 7 months old.It is one of her favorite books. She knows exactly where the touchy feely parts are.She has to read it every day.It is definitely a keeper!!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my daughter's favorites
My 16-month-old doesn't care much about other touch and feel books we have, but she loves this one! She'll have my husband or me read it to her twice in a row, which as anyone with a toddler knows, is rare indeed; she also loves to read it herself, turning the pages and touching the different areas. Our daughter's a big cat fan, but she also enjoys the other books in this series. The repitition in phrasing and bold artistry are really appealing to her. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter loves it!
We have two cats in the house and she just loves to look at this book and play with all the touch and feel objects. It's her favorite book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A fun book
Our daughter likes this book quite a bit, especially when the real cats come swarming all over us during reading time.Trying to get the real cats to reenact the adventures of Pepper & Pickle is perhaps not the best idea I have ever had, although Helen appeared to be amused. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Story!
Fraidy Cat is a lonely old stray kitty that lives in Uncle Will's barn. Eli just wants to be the kitty's friend, but the poor kitty is afraid! Other boys had pulled his tail and made loud noises. Eli patiently feeds and talks to the kitty day after day, praying to God that Fraidy Cat will be brave so that Eli can keep him. When the kitty chews the ears off Eli's favorite bunny, he thinks that Eli will be angry and pull his tail for sure. But Eli didn't!

5-0 out of 5 stars This cat doesn't meow, she SINGS!
One of the best ways for children's books to introduce youngsters to the wonders of classical music and opera is to use loveable animals as heroes, and Tess Weaver's "Opera Cat" is one of the best in this genre. Not only will children be delighted by it, but any adult who likes opera or cats (or both!) is bound to greatly enjoy it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Standing "O" for Opera Cat
Although I am fond of neither cats nor opera, Opera Cat left me begging for an encore! The story is perky, fun and deceptively sophisticated. Readers of any age will identify with the dreams and yearnings of Alma, the cat, and will enjoy the multi-leveled humor of this charming tale set in Milan. As a retired early-childhood educator, I was attracted by the stunning style andvocabulary of Opera Cat and by the lyricism and whimsy of its illustrations. Definitely a Read Aloud for the grandchildren!

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written, beautifully illustrated
This is a charming and refreshing story about a clever cat who finally gets her day in the spotlight. The detail of the illustrations which accompany this humorous tale is sure to maker readers of all ages laugh with surprise and delight. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars OEC Review
One-Eyed Cat is about a kid named Ned Wallis who shoots a cat with an air-rifle and eventually confesses.
5-0 out of 5 stars One-Eyed Cat
One-Eyed Cat written by Paula Fox is a sweet book about a boy whose mom is in wheelchair and dad is minister at the church. Ned the boy receives a share of trouble throughout the book. I enjoyed this book because it is interesting within the book about Rivers, and animals. I disliked the book because it started out so slow in the beginning and rest of the book. I also disliked the book because the characters are dull and there isn't much rising action and major conflict so it is not as exciting as other books.I also liked it because of it's setting of different places by the Hudson River. This is a good book, I suggest reading it.Good reading for all ages.
5-0 out of 5 stars ONE-EYED CAT
The year is 1935. Ned Wallis is 11 years old. For his birthday, Ned's wealthy uncle gives him an air rifle. Ned's father, a preacher in upstate New York, says that Ned is too young for a rifle, so he puts the gun in the attic, telling Ned that when he's 14, he can have it. But Ned goes to the attic after everybody else is in bed and takes the rifle outdoors. While he's aiming it just for fun, he spots a shadow of movement by the shed, and he pulls the trigger. Shooting the gun sobers him up, and he feels very guilty for disobeying his father. He puts the gun away. It has lost all excitement for him now.

This book was purchased for my 4 year old daughter, a cat lover. Although this book is written for young children and/or early readers, it thoughtfully conveys the story of Scarlett, the mother cat who rescued her newborn kittens from a fire in an abandoned garage. It teaches children that love and sacrifice is not confined solely to people.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great "find it" book
I bought this book for my 19 month old daughter a week ago.I am planning on buying a few more in the series because she loves it so much and I enjoy reading it with her.

5-0 out of 5 stars 17 month old Pip thinks this is the best "Find it" book.
This book is very good because I get to point, clap and meow a lot. My grandma always laughs and acts surprised when I find the kitten, but I don't know why, because it really wasn't so very hard after the first time. Since there aren't any words, we get to talk about the cute pictures.Icall the cat Edgar because that is my cat's name. We had so much funGrandma bought me four more books in the series. I like them, but this onestill is the one I like the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Helped Me Alot!
I am 12 years old and I love to draw. And this book helped me to do better.I always thought you could draw by just drawing rightoff the bat and in this book, I found that you had to start off with shapes and guide lines. Now I can draw much better now that I know the proper way to draw.I also had a problem, when drawing animals that stood on all fours. It would always be very difficult for me to draw their legs so that they looked good and this book helped me with that too.I was going to buy "How to Draw Cartoon Dogs, Puppies, and Wolves" but I found it was out of print.I saw a used one here on Amazon but it was $..., and I don't have that kind of money...

5-0 out of 5 stars Hard To Find GoodCat Cartoon Books
Good cartoon books on drawing specifically cats are hard to find, and this is one of the best. I am currently working on a script with 4 different cat types, and this book has them all, including the tiger! Althouth basic drawing techniques could be improved (he jumps to the finished product quickly), it is still a great teaching tool and a lot of fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best little book for Kitten Lovers
Our 2 year old loves this little book so much that she even has to sleep with it!It only has the names of each kitten, but she has them all memorized, in order, and then goes back through and picks out which kitten is her favorite, mommy's favorite and daddy's favorite. It is really sweet. It is the perfect size for her little hands.
4-0 out of 5 stars Cute 'n Chunky
Good pictures of kittens with unbelievably cute names. Not something you're necessarily going to read to your kids, but a good book for a young child to flip through on his or her own. My one year olds like it.

1-0 out of 5 stars not as good as expected
I have a couple of the bright baby board books and I bought this one because I liked the others so much. The reasons I liked the others:bold colors/ high contrast, lots of pages, and (most important) the most durable board books out there. My baby can suck and bite all over them and they don't show the wear, whereas many board books melt away and come apart after such treatment.I expected this book to be like the others, but it isn't.It is much smaller (would fit in the palm of your hand) and not as waxy, and would definitely fall apart if my baby had her way with it.The pages are thick and the edges show the cardboard. When wet with saliva, this book would definitely become a meal. I am guessing that the bright baby "chunkies" are small like this (I'll avoid them in the future) while the regular bright baby books remain among my favorites.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thanks Nicky!
Nicky, you, your counting book and jazz lullabies cd are number one with me and my three little nephews. Thanks for helping me during my first babysitting effort with them! We acted out your 123 book with swinging, sliding, counting, and bopping amidst lots of fun and laughing. Then, we relaxed with your wonderful selection of jazz lullabies that calmed us all many times throughout the day.
5-0 out of 5 stars Baby Nicky counts to ten . . and catnaps to lullabies
On behalf of the jazz cats in our home (a quartet), Baby Nicky deserves snuggles and pets for showing little ones how much fun counting to ten can be when it's lively and colorful. Nicky's sleek black coat and inquisitive yellow eyes look very cool with the lavender, pink, and aqua color scheme. His "mom" Carol Friedman helps him encourage kids to practice those numbers many times over through her irresistible book that's just their size. Baby Nicky meows, plays, jumps, peeps, hides, rides, slides, leads everyone into a circle to sing, steps out and swings, hops to the top, jams and be bops, skips, runs, and claps. And then, he's ready for a catnap to his favorite CD, Nicky's Jazz Lullabies (also available on Amazon). He and his young friends can drift off to warm and soothing ballads, musical nursery rhymes, and children's songs by some of the finest jazz artists ever. Baby Cat Nicky 123 lays all-important groundwork for Nicky the Jazz Cat's later learning adventures with some terrific jazz mentors, leading to his own success as a multi-instrumentalist and singer. After all, music is all about counting! This is a really innovative, well-woven concept for little ones, with delightful artwork, text, and music!
5-0 out of 5 stars Baby Cat Nicky 123 is charming . . . so is the CD Nicky's Jazz Lullabies!
Although we are a little past childbearing years, grown-up children from our and friends' families are having babies of their own. What can we give them that is beautiful, worthwhile, AND distinctive? Carol Friedman's latest additions to her "Nicky the Jazz Cat" collection are absolutely perfect gifts for a spectrum of occasions - showers, birthdays, holidays, or "just because." Created as a prequel to the award-winning "Nicky the Jazz Cat" originals, "Nicky's Jazz Lullabies" and the introductory counting book "Baby Cat Nicky 123" are just as charmingly and thoughtfully conceived for very young children. Three preschool teacher friends have raved about the suitability and creativity of these new items. The colors and graphic design, the perky appeal of the kitten, and the clever use of simple rhymed wording in "Baby Cat Nicky 123" promise repeat readings. The tender, gentle nature of the musical selections rendered by distinguished jazz artists on "Nicky's Jazz Lullabies" assures that wee listeners' dreams will indeed be sweet. Carol Friedman deserves a place in the pantheon of contemporary children's literary VIPs for sharing memories of a beloved pet as well as honoring jazz artists who have contributed so generously to America's unique musical genre.
