5-0 out of 5 stars Very Very cool book
My son loves dinosaurs but had outgrown alot of the kids books out there. This is a great book for older kids and adults will like it too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great eye candy for your inner child, and for your other children if you decide to share
This book produced much glee in my house the day it arrived, gasps of joy and amazement, awe and delight. One of these days I'll let my kids look at it, too. I enjoyed it so much that I promptly bought Sabuda's "Alice in Wonderland," "The Wizard of Oz," and another Encylopedia Prehistorica volume, "Sharks And Other Sea Monsters." They're all sensational.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome gift for kids and adults alike!
This book is just simply amazing. When you open each page you cannot stop but to wonder how on earth do they figure out how to not only design and engineer its illustrations but also how to implement it and still manage to sell it at a reasonable price. The content is very informative and educational. Definitely something that one can re-read with interest for many years. It also works great as a reference book for children and it could very easily be helpful for one of their school projects. Speaking of school, instead of getting a mug as an appreciation book for your kid's school teacher, consider offering this book. It is money well spent. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Incredible
I was in awe when my son received the Dinosaur book for Christmas from his Grandfather. I saw this book in a Parents magazine and had to get it based on the fact that the Dino one was incredible. My 3 year old loves it! It's not a book to let him play with unless you want it destroyed. Instead, this book allows us to make some quality time for each other when we sit down and look through it. It's very informational, and as he grows older I'm sure he'll read it, but at this point the pop-ups are worth it!

5-0 out of 5 stars My son loves the book
This is a very interesting book.My 5-year old has really enjoyed the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece of Pop-up books.
A Great Book to Read With the Kid on your lap. Probably best for kids in the couple or three grades. Best for kids on your lap because pop-up books are rather fragile. Grabbing the nose of the shark and using it as a handle to lug the book around is likely to lose the nose to your shark.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kid's Review
I actually give this book four and half stars. I liked it a lot and it had lots of good advice about how to be a good friend. It described how I feel when I feel shy. I am five and almost three quarters and my sister who is two liked it also.
5-0 out of 5 stars Autism Spectrum lifesaver..
.. and should be listed as such.My daughter loves this book, she is very intent as we read it, which means she is taking it in.She has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, which is a high-functioning form of autism. These kids have difficulty with social situations, and they are visual learners, so this is awesome.

4-0 out of 5 stars great for girls
With caddiness starting at even earlier ages these days, I bought this book to help my 6 year old daughter understand that not everyone demostrates good friendship. She's so sensitive and doesn't understand why others don't respect her feelings. This book reiterates how to be a good friend and how not to be. It praises being kind and caring so it reinforced what she knew to be correct behavior. The illustrations she recognized immediately to be Marc Brown's adorable and colorful characters. I highly recommend this to any child who's learning to deal with bullies and pushy kids in school. ... Read more

My son absolutely loves this book, he takes it everyone. I am even learning alot about dinosaurs thanks to this book.It is alot of bang for you buck.Hardcover book very sturdy and easy to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great "My Big..." book!
The "My Big Dinosaur Book" is a great addition to the Big Ideas for Little People series of books (we also have the Trains and Trucks books). Both of my sons love these books -- my 5 year old STUDIES every name, picture, and category and has been reading the Dinosaur book every day since he received it.My 3 year old loves to look at the pictures over and over.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dinosaurs and the Magic School Bus
I bought this book for my son's 5th birthday. He loves the Magic School Bus series and he loves Dinosaurs. This was the perfect gift for him. We have read it a few times already. It does not read as smooth as the other books in the series, but it keeps his interest and makes him want to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not the biggest meat eater. From vincent
Acually the biggest carnivore was giganotosaurus(gig-a-no-toe-sau-rus)with runners up being carcharodontosaurus(car-car-o-don-to-sau-rus),spinosaurus (the star from Jurrasic Park III)Then Tyrannosaurus rex (t-rex).My personal favorites: Velociraptor(veh-loss-i-rap-tor, ceratosaurus (cer-at-o-sau-rus),oviraptor (o-vi-rap-tor),and ornitholestes (or-nith-o-les-tees).

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful educational book for a variety of ages!
I wasn't familiar with the Magic School Bus series until I visited my family this past weekend--my 3-year old niece absolutely loved this book!Unconventional teacher Mrs. Frizzle takes her students on an archeological dig, but she then decides to give them a real look at dinosaurs by loading them onto her magic school bus and traveling back in time. The main body of the story is only about 5 lines per page, making the book appropriate for reading to younger children, but there is also a wealth of additional information included in surrounding insets, making the book ideal for an older beginning reader as well (and fun for adults, too!).The pictures are extremely detailed and colorful, and the illustrated children portray a variety of ethnic appearances.Given my niece's reaction, I'd highly recommend this book for aged 2-3 and up. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Big Book of Dinosaurs
Great photos!Even if your child isn't interested in having this book read to them (or reading it themselves), just the pictures themselves are worth the purchase. My 3 and a half year old loves looking through it, and I'm sure she'll enjoy the info more when she's older.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good and big read
Our almost 4 year old son likes this book well enough. He did remark (and rightfully so) that some of the dinosaurs in the book seem to be pictures of toy dinosaurs. They all look pretty good (I wonder where you could buy one of those) EXCEPT for the T-Rex!It looks really bad, of all dinosaurs to pick, this one does not shine well in this book. The text and information seems in order, but as we just now breaking into the dinosaur phase, we might read information that will tell us otherwise.Ofcouse we will post an update then :-) As for now, this is a good purchase, its a biiig book, the illustrations will give you lots to talk about.

5-0 out of 5 stars Converted to a dinosaur lover!
We gave this book to our son in September for his third birthday! It is his absolute favorite book.He was already an avid "reader" but this book is the best.He was only interested in trains and construction vehicles before the introduction of this book.It has wonderful pictures so he can "read" on his own. There is LOTS of dinosaur detaild for us to read to him.He seems hungry to learn more about the dinosaurs and there is always more to learn in here.He recently brought it to show and tell at school as his favorite item!If you have a budding discoverer, this book is for you.It has become one of my standard gifts for little boys. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars great book
My 13 year old daughter loved this book! When I received it in the mail she claimed it first (I have four children) and read the whole thing. She doesn't do that with many books. It offers another view on dinasaurs that is just as, if not more, valid than the prevelant one. I'm not surprised some people want to give this book low stars, but I have the feeling it's because they disagree with the author, not because the book is poor.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
I have to smile at some of the other reviews I have read of this book.Evolutionists are squirming! In fact this book is one of many which are advancing the cause of creation while evolutionists are having to back down on many assumptions which weaken their arguments.Great illos, great script.I am buying it to start a young man on his journey toward true science and strengthen his faith in the God who made all things with intelligence.

5-0 out of 5 stars ThosepoorEvolutionists!
I got this book one day, and read over half of it that day! CUBOOM!!!!! Gish blows the evolutionists stupid theories into billions of pieces! This is the best book on Dinosaurs by a creationist I have ever read. Those Evolutionists must be right out of their minds to say a lot of what they say. Gish explains about the whole process of what would happen while an animal was evolving in one chapter. Poor, Poor, Poor evolutionists! They can't debate with this book and be right. I strongly reccomend this book to Creationists, but if you're not one, you might not want to read it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick read, yet fun to look at
I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I saw this book on Amazon. Nonetheless, I'm very pleased with it. Granted, it does not cover every single dinosaur, but rather those that appeared in the series (WWD, Prehistoric Beasts, Monsters Before Dinosaurs, and the Nigel Marven episodes). It would have been better had there been more dinosaurs, but that may not have been practical or cost-effective for the publishers. It would also have been nice to have seen the creatures from the Land of Lost Monsters program, which has a few significant beasts not covered here. Given that, they do include a good variety, enough to provide a robust picture story of life on Earth. If only it included more...

5-0 out of 5 stars The Book that Completes the Walking With... Series
After watching the Walking With... series and reading the books that correspond to the documentaries, this book sums it all up into one book. They take almost every animal from the series and gives them each a page or two about that certain animal. They even take animals from the Walking With... specials as well so those programs are important too since they cover animals that the original series do not.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but needs work.
I like the book, but there are a few problems. The information is good except that a few of the human-creature comparisons are off.For instance, it said Meganeura on p34 had a 2.5ft wingspan.Compared with the 6ft man, it looked like it had a 5ft wingspan. Another example is that the Megaloceros on p196 is supposed to be 7ft tall at the shoulder.Compared with the man, it is around 4ft tall.In addition, I noticed that it said Othnielia was 13ft long.I looked at one of my other books and on several websites and they all said 4ft; this is a significant difference! Finally, I think it would have been better if they had gotten all of their silhouettes for the human-creature comparisons from the computer-generated animals. For example, I saw that the silhouette for the Tarbosaurus comparison is from an illustration I have seen in many other books. It would have been okay except that it was standing upright, which is generally not in keeping with modern restorations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Delusions in Eden
"Dinosaurs of Eden" along with "D is for Dinosaur" (reviewed separately) are both attempts to popularize and promote a fundamentalist Christian worldview based on a literal misreading of the Bible. The book depicts a rather "Dinotopia" like place and time where humans and dinosaurs live together in harmony, survive a global flood courtesy of an ark, and then encounter a changed post-flood environment which causes the dinosaurs to go extinct.
1-0 out of 5 stars Confusing for Young Christians and Dinosaur Enthusiasts
I do not claim to be a biblical scholar or a paleontologist, but my beliefs and interests in both subjects differ greatly with the theory presented in this book. This book is included with our Christian homeschool curriculum, and if I even choose to present this to my daughter at all it will be prefaced with a discussion about theories.I don't feel that any person (creationist, evolutionist, etc.) can prove 100% of anything with blatant assumptions and conjectures. This book contradicts many accepted beliefs by scientists (Christian and otherwise) and I feel this would do no nothing but confuse my young daughter who has deep love and respect for God and a great interest in dinosaurs. The Bible may offer a person much of the most important things one needs to know, but you shouldn't manipulate the words to "create" information to prove or disprove every theory out there.I could respect the author's opinion and find the book more palatable if it wasn't basically saying that his belief is 100% accurate and any differing theories are lies.It is okay that we don't fully understand every detail in God's world, and not many people are arrogant enough to claim they know it all. While it is commendable that he wants to bring children to Christ, using bad science to do so seems unnecessary. ... Editorial Review

A pack of fang-toothed Velociraptors gangs up on an unlucky Protoceratops, loping across the desert sand to close in for the kill. A gentle, duck-billed Maiasaura ("good mother lizard") feeds bits of scrub to the appreciative youngsters scampering at her feet. A 41-foot-long, six-ton, flesh-eating Gigantosaurus roars as he lunges at ... a taxicab? DK pulls out all the stops bringing dinosaurs to life in this guide's gorgeous 14-by-21-inch glossy spreads, imagining how they'd appear and behave in their natural habitats, all based on fossil evidence. (Well, except for the Gigantosaurus, who makes a playful appearance with a Barosaurus and a Compsognathus in a bustling downtown scene, just to give you an idea of size and scale.)Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Thrilling journey through prehistoric times
There are thirty chapters in all, each consisting of two pages with illustrations, graphs and descriptions. For the two-page spread on reconstructing the past, this is done in full-length, so the book must be turned another way for you to view this chapter. My son likes the Feet and Footprints chapter along with the Migration and Killer Instinct. You can see the " Powerful jaws were Tyrannosaurus's main weapon."
5-0 out of 5 stars Informative, visually stylish Dinosaur picture book for kids
I bought this for my three year old boy last year hoping he would grow into it.As predicted, at first he only paid attention to the impressive photos of the dinosaurs that dominated each two-page section:but a year later, he is drawn to examine the smaller pictures and ask more questions about the animals. This book works so well, I think, because it can appeal to a wide age range of children and has something of interest in it appropriate to every stage of learning.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another hit from Aliki
I love the Let's Read and Find Out science series, and Aliki is one of my family's favorite authors, so this book is a real winner for us.Clearly written text and lovely illustrations make for an enjoyable read-aloud for K-2 level students, or an informative read-alone book for older kids or early readers.

4-0 out of 5 stars A review of the record of fossils for children Ages 5 and up
Fossils tell of long ago is a good book for children.Brightly illustrated pictures help them grasp the facts of fossils. It includes a fun experiment, too, along with a clear explanation of how fossils were made.I give this book four stars.

2-0 out of 5 stars Aliki's blatant attempt at political correctness.
While this book is still a decent introduction to fossils for children, I'm giving it two stars because it is a VERY different book from the original (published in 1972, I believe) that I read and loved as a child. Ipurchased this version thinking it would be the same as the original(except for the different cover and perhaps some updates to the informationtherein). Well, I was wrong. ALL of the illustrations have changed (NOT forthe better, either, in my opinion). There are now children of every huepictured, and even a black boy in a wheel chair. How nice. This is what allchildren's books of the future will look like, apparently. (Classicchildren's books that don't include pictures of kids from various ethnicgroups will need to be re-illustrated.) Aliki, why did you mess with aperfectly good original?Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love the Magic Tree House Series!
This is my favorite book in the whole Magic Tree House series, because they wrote about a new dinosaur called Giganotosaurus. It was even bigger than T-Rex, and if they find more fossils of Giganotosaurus, it will be the king of dinosaurs. I think it was funny when Annie pretended to be Dromiceiomimus because she looked silly with huge eyes!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, entertaining and educational.
What a wonderful idea.Mary Pope and Will Osborne share the research that they put in to writing "Dinosaurs Before Dark" with their readersin a fun and entertaining way.My 8-year old daughter has devoured thisbook and "Knights and Castles : A Nonfiction Companion to the Knightat Dawn".These books are not only instructing her on the particularsubject of each book, but they are also teaching her how to do research onher own. They also build vocabulary and fill her head with wonderousthoughts and questions.I highly recommend this series to every youngreader and their parents. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Journey into Dinosaur Worlds
Who discovered the first dinosaur?
5-0 out of 5 stars A great guide for teaching young paleotologists about how and where dinosaurs lived
I have been hooked on dinosaurs every since my great aunt took me to the Great Hall of Dinosaurs at the Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale University. This was so long ago the apatosaurus was known as a brontosaurus because they had the head of a camposaurus sitting on top of the giant skeleton that dominates the hall, along with Rudolph Zallinger's "The Age of Reptiles" mural. One of the neat things there is a triceratops on which a faux skin has been placed on one side.I mention that because in this "Dinosaur Atlas" authors John Malam and John Woodward, along with consultant Professor Michael Benton, go so far beyond that display that it makes me want to laugh with delight.Finding out about dinosaurs in the 21st century is proving to be a lot of fun.
