5-0 out of 5 stars My Life in Dog Years
This is an autobiography about Gary Paulsen. He talks about nine different dogs in this book. He talks about them, because they have helped him threw hard times when he was kid and still now as an adult. He picks them up off the street and from the pounds. He is an animal lover because of his younger experiences with animals.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
I read this book as a diversion from my usual reading, and consumed it in one sitting at a Starbucks. This was a great book about the life of a man and his friends. Paulsen love for dogs and animals seems to be rooted in his isolation as a young boy, as he moved from place to place, not fitting in new communities, and living with highly dysfunctional, neglectful parents. As a child and teen, he bonded with the dogs that became a part of his life and his friends. As an adult his affection for his childhood friends never left him and he seeks to befriend those that befriended him in his early life. My Life in Dog Years will make you laugh and cry, and remind you that friendships can be made and found in the most unlikely times and places. Read and enjoy! Excellent job, Mr. Paulsen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite series - Usborne Touchy Feely Books
This series - Usborne Touchy Feelys - is wonderful. Babies and toddlers LOVE the textures and the bright primary colors. As an Usborne independent consultant, I sell this line of books from home, and the Touchy Feelys are my best sellers. The quality is excellent, very sturdy with rounded corners. Different textured pads on each page include soft fur, bumpy ridges or rough patches. The illustrations are adorable. Peter Usborne himself (the founding publisher) told us this summer that the Touchy Feelys are his favorite books! In addition, I have many Speech Pathologists as customers. They also love this series as it encourages speech.
5-0 out of 5 stars great book
My son is 17 months and loves this book.We have the sign language dvd titled "my baby can talk" by baby hands and this book is featured and read for the "sign" for book.I thought it might help him make a better connection if he had the book also.It is very short. However, That is about all I have time to read before he is off running.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Preparation for A New Puppy Arrival
This is a book I read cover to cover and took many reference notes. It deals with understanding the new puppy and preparing him for socialization with people, vets and other pets. With the skills taught in the book, the puppy can grow into a well-trained adolescent and into a well-mannered adult.

1-0 out of 5 stars Took the fun out of having a puppy...
I bought this book because it was referenced on the Dog Scouts of America website, which is a site dedicated to developing positive relationships between owner/dog.I was so disappointed when I received the book, from the moment I got a good look at it's cover and read the subtitle ("...The Clock Is Ticking!"), which I had missed when ordering the book, or I would have thought twice about buying it...This book turned having a delightful puppy into a race against time to prevent having an evil, rotten dog.It took all the fun and optimism out of raising my puppy.I'm glad I stopped reading it, and looked to more upbeat sources for advice on raising my puppy. Many of these sources I found on the internet.I looked to Karen Pryor and her clicker training theories, as well as such books as "Boxers for Dummies" and "The Boxer Handbook" and "I Just Got A Puppy What Do I Do."All these emphasize the power of bonding with your dog, the pleasures of socializing your puppy, and while they don't downplay the significance of socialization, etc. they don't turn the cute puppy you have just made a part of your family into some ticking timebomb set to go off and bring nothing but pain and misery if not socialized absolutely correctly.I grew up with dogs, in a time before "socialization," in a time where you just loved your puppy, and took him places, and tried your best with him/her, and those dogs all turned out fine.I am grateful for all the information that we have these days on how to better raise a puppy to be a happy well adjusted pet, and am doing my best to put that information to good use on my own Boxer puppy.

4-0 out of 5 stars My Senator And Me: A Dog's Eye View Of Washingion, D.C.
This book is delightful. A very cute book for kids to learn about how the Senate is run. Such a cute idea to use Ted's dog through the dog's eyes and voice. I'm not truly a Ted Kennedy fan, but this was very well written, and the illustrations are excellent. I hope he does a second book using both of his dogs. Children will love reading it, as well as adults. I buy them for my grand children and end up keeping some myself for my own collection.

3-0 out of 5 stars He was already named Splash
That's right - the dog was named Splash by the previous owner before Mr. Kennedy got him.So, focus on the book and not the politics.I think it's a cute book (I also own a PWD)and have given it to both of my teacher daughters for their classrooms. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Adventures of Hank the Cowdog
Hank the cowdog is about a dog named Hank and he lives in a farm.Everything is going right fo Hank because he is the leader of the dogs and nobody ever dared to talk back to him until one day another dog named Rufus came to take over. Then Rufus starts making fun of Hank for having crossed eyes (he got crossed eyes because he tried to see the part where his nose had no skin on it).One time Rufus was acting like Hank (imitating Hank)and Hank ran away.Hank confronted (met) snakes and big birds which he had trouble with.Hank had to deal with Rufus.Do you think he (Hank) might get away with still being the leader?,well if you keep on reading the ending you will know.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great series for developing readers
My ten year old son is a rapidly developing avid reader who has fallen absolutely in love with this excellent series. Erickson creates rapid narratives filled with honest (and yes, corny) humor and pleasently comic action and an occasional moral or two. 5-0 out of 5 stars Enchanting!

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't let me give it away, You must read it for yourself
This is one of my favorite dog books of all time, right up there with White Fang by Jack London. Get ready for a fun ride as you follow the author through the actual experience of a dog that is 'one of a kind' but that we all know in the many ways that dogs reach out and touch our lives by just being themselves. An astonishing, tender, revealing and sensitive book that will have you involved, right there with the owner and his family as each day leads to another amazing event.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Draw 50 Dogs" of the terrific Draw 50 series
I must admit that for me it takes a bit of work to draw realistic and 3 dimensional pictures. But using the 'Draw 50' books are so very, very easy to use! Lee J. Ames's drawing method is simple with the step-by-step instructions which are easy to follow. For kids 9 and older, "Draw 50 Dogs" by Lee J. Ames is great for drawing in your scrapbook, onto your notebooks, on cards, etc.5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I agree with the other reviews, this is a great book in the series. If you have an interest in drawing or know someone who does, you'll find these books to be very useful. 5-0 out of 5 stars Anonymous in New York
My kids absolutely love this book.Every time they see a dog they don't know, they ask what it is and look it up in the book. There hasn't been a dog they haven't been able to find yet.The color photographs, not illustrations, are great.I highly recommend this book, especially to kids who love dogs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for doglovers and dog haters
This book is great for dog lovers.I thought that the part about training your dog and such is dull because the pictures and accrual description of the dogs of the book is the best.It is great for someone who wants to get a dog and find which one is perfect for you.People whom already have a dog would not be board in this book. I had already had a dog before I got this and it was fun trying to find my dog and my friend's dog in this book.I think that this book is great for all ages because just looking at the pictures if fun.Anyone who says this is an awful book must be wrong only thing is there are more dogs in the back that do not have a description which means you my not find you dog in this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars be not mislead, it is about the breeds, not the care

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative book for children 9 and up.
The illustrations in this book are beautiful and easy to understand. Children can follow and understand how to care for and train their new puppy. This is not a book for people who are looking to learn about dog behavior the history of a dog. You will need to find a more informative book like; Good Owners, Great Dogs by Brian Kilcommons for that kind of information. But for older children who want to learn to care for their dog this is a good book for them.
5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book for children
This is an excellent book for your children if you plan to make puppy a new member of your family. It guides the children through the various stages of training a puppy, has good photographs supporting the text and highlights certain important phrases. Whislt it, of course, does not cover all aspects of dog traing, it does not need to do that: the training will be the adults responsibility, and not the child's. The child however can and should support those efforts and by reading this book can add to the training and hence become a responsible dog owner her/ himself.

There is so much to this book than noted at first glance.First, we get a great dose of history told in a way children can understand it.Secondly, we learn some little known facts about our first president.Thirdly, we have animals, something neither kids nor adults can ever get enough of and fourthly, we get a story packed full of morals. But that is not all.The illustrations are very well executed and a delight. The text is simple an to the point and goes quite well with the illustrations. The book makes some very complicated situations and states them simply in a very nice story.I enjoy this one almost as much as the children do.This is a good work to read to the class as it generates good discussions.Recommend this one highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars 6--Year-Old (and I) Loved It
My six-year-old son brought this title home from his school library. We read it together several times, and one night I found him meticulously copying a page from the book. My son hated to return the book, and I knew I had to buy it--for both of us! It tells a little-known story about Washington in a charming, beautifully illustrated manner that everyone (especially dog lovers) will love.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent story for George Washington's Birthday!
I used this title with a class I teach to American children overseas. They really enjoyed it as a read-aloud and couldn't believe that it was true!I like that the back page had a copy of the original note sent as well as photos of drawings/paintings of Howe and Washington. The illustrations aren't spectacular, but the children loved it. ... This book wasn't as helpful as I expected.Alot of it just common things that are generally practiced with experienced dog owners. It really didn't offer any new activities.
4-0 out of 5 stars a fun book to read and learn about your dog
My seven year old son loves this book and has taught me, as the mother, quite a few things for training and playing with our new puppy. A wonderful and playful, yet sensile approach for children.

5-0 out of 5 stars GOOD, FUN BOOK
Great Book. Maybe not the best if you want basic training skills, but wonderful to teach your dog tricks. Not just for kids, but for anyone who wants to have fun with their dog!!! I highly recomend it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Doggie Lovers Will Love Good Dog
I bought this book for my brother for his birthday specifically because he has West Highland Terriers like the dog on the cover. He also appreciates good artwork. When I got the book I showed it to my parents, who are also dog lovers, and we all giggled out loud at the wonderfully hilarious poems and the sweet, funny illustrations. The pictures are suitable for framing. The book is marvelous and it put a big smile on our faces, just like the smile on the dog on the last page! Oh yeah, my brother loved the book too, and couldn't wait to read the poems to his Westies.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Dog
Absolutely as charming and original in text--which is perfectly matched in illustration-- as any children's book I have seen in too long.Gottfried's text soars in imaginative flight to capture canine essences, and should elicit the same enthusiasm from any child and adult. I was truly impressed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great for dog lovers
A nice combination of fine art and prose poetry for the younger reader and especially for dog lovers! The paintings are simple and the dogs are very expressive. The accompanying poetry interprets the mood and attitude of these canines with humor and will inspire young readers to create thier own personalites for these pups. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
Just so you'd know, this book is not denouncing Togo.It is merely telling Balto's side of the story. And it is a courageous one taht deserves to be well-known.There.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for introducing the Iditarod to children
If you love the Iditarod and you want your children (or children you're fond of) to be introduced to this great race, the story of Balto and the Great Race by Elizabeth Cody Kimmel is a good place to start, beginning with the cover illustration by Nora Kerber. This book is a Stepping Stones chapter book with black and white illustrations throughout.
5-0 out of 5 stars Balto:not just for kids
We purchased this book after seeing the real Balto (courtesy of the art of taxidermy) at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Our quest in Northeast Ohio, where Balto enjoyed his senior years, was prompted by my seven year-old daughter's love-affair with the animated film about this dog, who navigated a lost sled team carrying life-saving medicine through Alaska in 1925. I hereby confess publicly that, after myself reading the book, which is aimed at the 9 year-old set, I cried, much as I had done 35 years before after reading "Lassie Come Home."This account, however, is much more compelling than "Lassie" or "Old Yeller," because it entirely factual (possibly excepting the subjective thoughts imputed to the protagonist). 5-0 out of 5 stars Another great book in the Touch and Feel Series-my toddler loves it!
My toddler loves any Touch and Feel book-he got his first for Easter last year and I think there's only 4 or 5 we don't have yet. They're sturdy and a great size for toddlers to read, we even throw a couple in the diaper bag when we're out. They're short enough to keep a toddler's attention and filled with bright photographs of familiar things and simple, easy to read concepts.Although as some people have mentioned on this or other books reviewed, they do have some repititous textures and ideas, but I think that most toddlers won't care about that-mine doesn't anyway-he loves them.
5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite baby gift.
I just love ALL the books in this series. My children just loved them when they were little, and if you've ever had babies you know how valuable a good book is -- you get to sit down for a while! They were fun for me to read and really fun for them to explore. In fact, I've already packed them away in their hope chests for when they grow up and have children.
5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for dog-loving kids
I got this book as a hand-me-down from a friend, whose 4-year-old and 2-year-old boys had failed to destroy it. That alone says a lot about the durability of this book, and its tactile pieces. My son, who is 16 months, loves this book. He likes to touch all the different tactile pieces: the furry puppy chest (my son's favorite), the silky dog ears, the fuzzy slipper, the rubber ball (my least favorite), and the leathery puppy noses (my favorite). The pictures are adorable. There aren't many words per page, so the book might lose its appeal for older, more experienced readers. But it's great for younger kids (under 4). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for the little one, great for Mom and Dad
This was one of my son's first favorite books. He would listen to me read it as many times as I was willing, and because of Wegman's non-cutesy approach, that was many times indeed.Although the dog-formed letters aren't as clear as text, they don't need to be - there are many other instances of the letters on each page, and hearing them is as important as seeing them.Overall, a great experience in enjoying reading for parent and child alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars A new approach to the alphabet
This book made me wish learning the a-b-c's were this much fun back in my own childhood. The photos are amazingly original and your kids will truly enjoy coming back to their letter lessons with Wegman's adorable dogs.A very fresh approach to teaching!NOTE:check out Wegman's fairy talesfeaturing his prize dogs too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Humorous for children AND adults
