awesome book
This book has beautiful pictures and is so captivating, you can't help but love it. This seems as if you are there with the wolves. An excellent book for learning more about wolves.

Very informative, fabulous photos
"To the Top of the World" is essentially a condensed version of Brandenberg's fantastic book, "White Wolf," and is perhaps a better book to acquaint younger readers with wolf-related issues.This brief volume contains information about human-wolf relations, myth-busting, and of course much about wolf behavior and pack relations. Great Book!
I learned a lot about wolves from this book. And the pictures are sooooo cute! It is my favorite! I would get it if I were you!

My Kids Love It!!
This is an intriguing, engaging little tale about a baby wolf who learns how to howl and become part of the pack. The writer, Batten, writes in a lovely, simple way that seems to anticipate the child's next, inevitable question. The story is well augmented by the illustrations which are both pleasing to the eye and informative. A fun, excellent read.

Balancing The Scales of Nature
A study in the perserverance and dedication of a group of people to bring the wolf back to its own enviroment in the wildernesses of Yellowstone Montanna.Full of information this book will elate you as well as sadden you, but the winner here of course is the wolf who once more runs free on his land.

Excellent overview of the wolf's history & current issues
Jim Brandenberg always brings the wolf into our homes vividly and with great skill through his photographs, and in this book, these exquisite photos are paired up with the informative writing of Stephen Swinburne. Swinburne covers an excellent range of topics in this short (but highly-informative) book, including the history of the wolf's extermination in this country, early conservationists, wolf behavior and social structure, myth-busting, the Yellowstone project, and the wolf's future prospects. What a great book!

Informative and excellently written
My children (8 and 11) loved the way the author combined his own adventures with so much information about coyotes in this fine, energetic book.The author's lively prose also helps to make this a wonderfulexample of the new journalism as it can be applied to children'sliterature. We need more books like this, and I hope the author can move onfrom coyote to other cats, like bobcat and tiger, etc.Yesterday, webought his wolf book, "Once a Wolf," which my son and daughtersay is equally fantastic. Comedian As Scientist Entertains As He Informs
I picked this book up recently for the first time since high-school, some 15-plus (!) years ago.Maybe it was Steve Irwin's death, or a viewing of the documentary Grizzly Man, that got me to thinking about it- either way, I'm glad I did.I'd forgotten what a wacky character Farley Mowat was, and how much more there is to this quick read than dry scientific reporting.
"Wolves, please don't cry."
NEVER CRY WOLF is Farley Mowat's first-person reminiscence of his time spent studying wolves in the Canadian arctic. NEVER CRY WOLF, first published in 1963, was one of the earliest, most widely-read, and most effective conservation narratives ever penned. It's Russian edition (the title of which, literally translated back into English, is WOLVES, PLEASE DON'T CRY) was responsible for a Soviet ban on wolf hunting that spared the animals in their natural habitat and gained Mr. Mowat a notorious reputation at the U.S. State Department, which banned his subsequent entry into the United States.
Three Stars for Entertainment, Zero for veracity
I can't believe all the reviewers gushing about this book. It is propaganda, propaganda for a good cause. But, like all propaganda, it is not bound by truth or even by facts.

Great art, Great story, Must HAVE
Finaly a book that shows wolves in a good light for kids. No more BIG BAD WOLF syndrom. This book shows wolves as they really are. The story and the art are both fantastic. I am glad I stumbled on this book by chance, but I recommend it to everyone, especaily to wolf lovers who have kids and want to share that passion.

HALL OF FAME INDUCTION
Robbyn Smith van Frankenhuyzen and Gijsbert van Frankenhuyzen (along with Gijsbert's "Legend of" partner Kathy-Jo Wargin) have entered my picture book authors/illustrators Hall of Fame. With the great "Legend of" and animal adoption books they join such luminaries as Barbara Helen Berger, Tomie de Paola, Jon Scieszka, Lane Smith, and, the Grand Master--Dr. Seuss. The continuing quality of the Frankenhuyzen's and Mrs. Wargin's work stands up well against any of the other people currently in the hall.
Wonderful book for any nature loving family!
Saving Samantha is one of Sleeping Bear Press's best books to date. Nick and Robbyn have produced a spectacular and heart warming picture book in their latest joint endeavor. Saving Samantha tells their family's journey in nursing a fox kit back to health while the fox slowly reintroduces herself back into the wild. This is a wonderful book to share with your children. It will help show children how wild animals should be treated with care and respect. It is a nature lover's ideal book! This is a book that both adults and children will enjoy. The journalization is so honest (and humorsome at times- poor Igor) while the illustrations help show you how time passes by while Sam heals. It is simply a marvelous, enjoyable book! My personal favorite part was the relationship that Sam, the fox pup, develops with Myles, the family dog. Very Good
What is wrong with these kid reviewers?I admit, I've never been really fond of Gary Paulsen's books, but i was pleasantly surprised.Seriously, every kid reviewer who hated this book should go out and get a life!Very well written book.

Wilderness Adventures
Gary Paulsen. "Paulsen is the best man-against-nature adventures writing today" according to Publisher Weekly. He lives with his wife Ruth in Minnesota. In "Wood Song" Gary talks about his like in the woods with his dogs. The book is about how unforgiving the wild can be and how he had to learn to deal with death in a hole new way. In just the first few chapters he talks about how on one of his first runs with a sled team he encounters a pack of wolfs chasing a deer. Also he learns that he knows very little about running a dog sled team in the begging, but once he starts running with the team more and more he starts to understand them and why they like to run. The book talks about how close Gary gets to his first led dog Storm. The book then talks about when he ran the Iditarod in Alaska. How he had to survive against the elements with only his dogs as company. In the book Gary talks about where he has been and what he has done.
This is VERY informational
I really enjoyed this book because it talks alot about his life.The book is a little gorey in the first few chapters but it really talks about Gary Paulsen's life.Some quotes that I thought that were meaningful were the parts where he talked about The Doe, I thought that part was interesting to me becuase it talked about life or death which was always a mystery to me.
