Very Good Book!
American Girl book series were always very popular to younger girls, It is a good thing they made a book about horses and the Rodeo to give younger children a good idea about horses! I recomend this book to any youngester who wants to learn about horses!

Great for horse lovers everywhere!
I loved this book! It had cool stories about girls and their horses. I love horses and this book told me about what other girls do to take care of their horses. I also loved the horse trading cards, hey had many differnt kinds of horses on them. I also learned many things you can do on a horse. I think that if you love horses than this is for sure the perfect book for you!! I also loved all the full colored pictures. I would recommend this book fo everybody! -kristen

Great for young horse riders
My 9 year old daughter (and I,her mother) really enjoyed this book. Although intended for young girls, I also learned from it.The book does a great job of explaining different kinds of riding and of some of the work involved in taking care of horses.I would highly recommend it for someone interested in taking riding lessons. ... Teen horse lovers will love this!
I just received this book and started on it right away.I thought this would take forever to do but with a little practice I was doing great. I highly suggest this book for advanced artists and the age of 9 and up.This book offers a variety or horses to draw including close-up pictures.If you know your circles and lines you could do this!Also, you only do good if you start out by reading the instructions in the front of the book.You'll want hints.I did good so you will too!

Great for all artists
I am the best horse drawer in my school, but with this book, I can still find details that I never paid any attention to before!
Impressive, but lacking...
I personally feel that this book is for the established artist who knows his basic concepts in art. For the newbie, this might not be the one for you. The drawings within are definitely for those of a slightly higher level.Read more

The Horse Breeds Poster Book: A Kid's Review
This book was great!!!!!!!!!!! I think the posters were beautiful, but they could have made them bigger, so they could fold out. But they were still very nice because on the back it had cool facts about the breeds. I learned a lot from this book!!!I reccomend buying this book for your niece or daughter because it is very educational. Also, my room is looking a lot more horsey because the photos brighten it up!!![my favorite photo was of the Arabian.]

This book is great! All sorts of beautiful posters of various horse breeds fill it's spine! Buy it for your horse crazy daughters or nieces---they can decorate their whole room with the book! All sorts of wonderful information about some of our favorite breeds! The only down side that I can see is that the posters just slide out if you're looking in the book. Nice Illistrations of Horses
We have bought several of these coloring books in the Horse Series and are very pleased. I was unable to find any for older children before.

My Horse Coloring Book
Definitely not for younger children.Best for advanced readers and children with lots of years experience in coloring.However, by the time most readers would understand the text, those same readers would probably not be that interested in coloring, so I am not at all sure what interest bracket this book would fall into.

very detailed, better for older child
I bought this book for my four-and-a-half year old niece who loves horses. As soon as I opened it, I knew it was the wrong book for a small child. This book begins with detailed diagrams of horse anatomy, followed by drawings like the one on the cover explaining horse care and riding techniques. It's a beautiful book, but better for a mature child or teen who is serious about learning about horses and might want to know where the "common digital extensor tendon" is located. Missing Details
I agree with the review from "From School Library Journal." I did think that this book had excellent pictures and a lot of good information but did not think that it was complete.
Wonderful!
Kids who are interested in horses really need a mentor who is experienced in all aspects of the care and handling of horses. And they could certainly use Horse Care for Kids by Cherry Hill, a horse trainer and breeder. In the past, Hill has been a judge and taught courses in horse management and training. She is also the author of 24 equestrian books.
Great beginner horse book for kids
This book has wonderful illustrations depicting how to halter a horse, body language of a horse, horse colors, grooming a horse, and many more practical things to teach you to become a responsible and successful horse or pony owner. Not overwhelming
This book is great for younger riders.It doesn't overwhelm the child with too much information.The illustrations are great.Real photographs of kids and horses not hand drawn pictures.

I must disagree with CPM's (CA) review
I personally have both books by editor Tammy LeRoy and photographer ROBERT Dawson.They do, indeed, have absolutely beautiful photographs and Tammy is a gifted writer/editor that helps those photographs be appreciated even more by her words.
Worst Writing Ever!
Richard Dawson's pictures are beautiful, but the whole book is brought down by the hopeless drivel that is written by LeRoy.She is obviously an uneducated writer who would be better suited to producing bad greeting cards rather than ruining the work of this excellent photographer.If you decide to purchase this book, pick up a Sharpie marker too.Black out all of the text and you will have a reasonably enjoyable time paging through the photographs.

Childhood dream
As a little girl growing up, I lived my life through the pages of this book and wished that I was as lucky as young Vivi Malloy.I would check this book out of the library as much as I could because it was the closest that I got to owning a horse (until my dream came true when I was 13).Despite being out of print, I was so happy when I found a copy of this book on eBay.For those who are still searching for this book, have no worry because it is finally back in print with an update on Vivi, Penny, and a few other people that are mentioned.George Morris lends a hand by writing a foreword to the newest edition.One statement he makes is so true when it comes to today's horse owners:"We also see Vivi grooming and exercising her pony Ready Penny, mucking out Penny's stall, and observing and learning from the pony's veterinarian and farrier.Such hands-on participation was all part of a rider's life in those days (but unfortunately less so today), and this bookreminds us that it takes more than winning blue ribbons to become a complete horseman or horsewoman."

Dreaming of Horses
Never owned a horse, but got very intersted in horses in my early 20's and read TONS of books.'A Very Young Rider' was one of my favorites.I own the book and several of the other 'very young' ones.Am amazed these books are out of print! :(Got curious reading these reviews about what happend to Vivi and did an internet search.Here is a wonderful story:
A Piece of my Childhood...
I am 38 years old and got this book for Christmas at about 10 years old. I, too, had a pony that I showed and loved dearly. I even started to wear my long, blonde hair in braids with lucky polkadot ribbons when I showed English. I ran home from school every day, waiting to get close enough to hear her whinny for me...I cried along with Vivi as I outgrew my precious pony, Boots, and moved on to a bigger horse. It still brings bittersweet tears to my eyes when I thumb through it! My dust cover is torn and worn and I was looking for a replacement book when I came upon this thread. This book, and all in the series, were wonderful stories of real-life people with real stories and experiences. With so much garbage thrown at our kids these days, it would be a shame to see this series disappear. ... Read more

High Quality Coloring Books for older children
My daughter enjoyed the quality of the illistrations of horses. They were very realistic and detailed.

Quality
I'm use to my children's jumbo coloring books, with cute, simple drawings and not the best quality pages or covers. This book is a step above the average coloring book. I like the added feature of the small images that show the child the "appropriate" colors. I know my eight-year-old will love this book, and I plan to buy her the other horse coloring books by Dover.

Very good
Very good photos, and the verbiage is very educational about horses.It tells you just enough interesting things, but not too much to bore you.Book needs to be read to new readers, for there are many sentences per page.

Not just for kids
I didn't realize this was intended for children until I had brought it home, as the exterior cover does not so indicate.However, I did enjoy it and it increased my understanding of my own horse's behavior.Good for parents who want to introduce their children to scientific study and how a researcher can make definitive statements based upon uncovered facts.However, probably better for older children, 12 and up, unless they are already well-read and have a broad vocabulary.
Facts abouthorses in layman's terms.
The book is simple to read and easy to understand.It gives you the basics with study back up to the author's statements.Not what I was looking for but easy to read and informative.

fascinating read about the horses mind........
I came upon this book while looking for ones for my children.As a rider, I am always interested in knowing more about whats going on inside the horses head.The author is a horse owner and a researcher as well and really keys into the senses of a horse and why they are so important to him.I would think any child over the age of 11 or 12 who loves horses and wants a better understanding of them would enjoy this book.It is an easy read and has references for further reading and a glossary on horse terms.Enjoyable book for older children. ... Ride it Read it!
This book is great for begingers (like me) to help people learn a jumping ,racing and riding! It also tells people about how to take care of stable equiment,tack and last but not least stable care! I would give this book 2 hooves up!
