5-0 out of 5 stars Kid's Review
I actually give this book four and half stars. I liked it a lot and it had lots of good advice about how to be a good friend. It described how I feel when I feel shy. I am five and almost three quarters and my sister who is two liked it also.
5-0 out of 5 stars Autism Spectrum lifesaver..
.. and should be listed as such.My daughter loves this book, she is very intent as we read it, which means she is taking it in.She has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, which is a high-functioning form of autism. These kids have difficulty with social situations, and they are visual learners, so this is awesome.

4-0 out of 5 stars great for girls
With caddiness starting at even earlier ages these days, I bought this book to help my 6 year old daughter understand that not everyone demostrates good friendship. She's so sensitive and doesn't understand why others don't respect her feelings. This book reiterates how to be a good friend and how not to be. It praises being kind and caring so it reinforced what she knew to be correct behavior. The illustrations she recognized immediately to be Marc Brown's adorable and colorful characters. I highly recommend this to any child who's learning to deal with bullies and pushy kids in school. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars love this book!!!
this book is the best ever i have some friendship problems
5-0 out of 5 stars AWSOME BOOK!
If you have any friendship problems with your friends this book is the one for you! Even if you don't have friendship problems this book helps you get better at learning to deal with it. I would recomend this book for anyone! Even an adult! Two thumbs up!
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful Book
Okay, so most of us girls have seen "Ask Fill-in-the-Blank" and "Advice Column".Andmost of us have heard "Fill-in-Name-of-Celebrity is going to be on Fill-in-Name-of-TV-Show tonight to give friendship advice".But most of it, though not all of it, isn't helpful.I found this book interesting and fun to read, while also very helpful. There were a lot of feelings and troubles that I could relate to, and a lot of good advice and stories that girls, having friendship troubles or not, need to read. The quizzes were fun to take, but I wouldn't take the results TOO, TOO seriously. They are about the most accurate quizzes there are friendship-wise, but if you listen too carefully to the ranking, rating, etc. you come out as, you could end up breaking off a friendship that could've been rescued.Overall, I think this book is both entertaining and useful at the same time.Though I don't agree with some of the things that they say, I think most of the advice was really good.I would recommend this book to all girls. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for kids!
This is a fabulous book on autism acceptance. This is great for teachers or parents that want their kids to better understand someone that is "different" than the others. It is well written and really presents a creative way of introducing Autism and other spectrum disorders to kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have.
I purchased this book after reading the reviews. Our seven year old son is on the Autism Spectrum and his daycare friends had lots of questions about his behaviors and his limited language skills.I brought this book in for the teacher to read. The comment from the teacher was "They got it."

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best book for Kids to Understand
I bought this book for my sons K-1 class. The book explains what autism is on a level for young children to understand and the kids loved the coloring aspect of it. His teacher loved the adult explainations of each page. My 8 year old borrowed the book to read to his 2nd grade class so that they could understand his brother! I read this book to my Introdution to Early Childhood class and my teacher agreed, this book should be purchased. I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone whose child is going into a different learning environment. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A load of crock.
This book takes heartfelt letters written by girls trusting their most private experiences to a complete stranger (the author) -- and dissects them like a dead frog, telling the girls what they did "wrong" and how they "should" be acting, feeling, behaving if they want to a get a good grade, because this book GRADES every girl in their "First Person" segments.
4-0 out of 5 stars GOOD BOOK!
well, i bought this book cos i needed to know a little bit more about teenage behaviors and alittle of their psychology and stuff.
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!

5-0 out of 5 stars cookies are important
This is the kind of book that children of all ages should read, or have someone read to them.I love the way the book compares everyday words with cookies! The golden retriever on the front of the book is adorable, too. It's a very educational, creative and memorable book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Way to Learn is While Enjoying a Cookie
I bought this book for my husband who is known for baking the best tasting cookies in the small town where we live. The book is a delight to read and a great way to teach kids lessons such as sharing, patience, respect, trustworthiness, cooperation, compassion, etc. The illustrations are warm additions and you can almost smell the cookies.
5-0 out of 5 stars A truly wonderful book
This is such a wonderful book.I was attracted to Jane Dyer's lovely illustrations and fell in love with the story.By using chocolate chip cookies, Rosenthal explains such things as envy, greed, cooperation, kindness, etc in a manner that helps children understand and gives adults a reason to smile.Today is my daughter's 6th birthday.Rather than take in treats that would be forgotten quickly, she gave her kindergarten teacher and class a copy of this book as a present. The teacher (and class) loved it.This book would be a wonderful present for a young child (say kindergarten to first grade) and a welcome addition to any libary.I cannot recommend it enough. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent message!
What a wonderfully written, beautiful story! I love it more and more each time I read it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Beutifully written story for all ages.
I was given "A Snowman Named Just Bob" as a present last Thanksgiving and was so touched by the beautiful message of how simple friendship is to start that I bought 15 more for Christmas presents for family and friends! The story is heartwarming and the illustrations are beautiful. I have since purchased 4 more of author Moulton's titles and each is as delightful as the other. I intend to buy every book Mark Kimball Moulton writes!

2-0 out of 5 stars short on story, long on sentimentality -- in the BAD sense
I am VERY confused by the multiple great reviews and 5-star ratings. The text is horrid, and I was surprised to see that the author has written a number of books. This is like an early Hallmark card, the poetry is not good -- "Friendship is a simple thing, The clue is just to start, As long as it is built on trust, And love from in your heart". Nice idea, but do you want to read 30+ pages of this? There is no story and apparently the only reason to own and enjoy this book is if you know someone named Bob. But the thing is, I know some Bobs, and they deserve a better book than this! Who is Bob? What makes him tick? What does Bob the magical snowman ever do in this book besides tell you to remember him?Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Differences are what make the world so great
Charlie and Isabelle are the same age but they have some differences. For example, Charlie is tall and Isabelle is short, and whereas Charlie runs fast, Isabelle likes to take her time. The last difference that Charlie explains is when he tells us: "I know a lot of words.Isabelle's words are sometimes hard for me to understand."In the text of "My Friend Isabelle," author Eliza Woloson never comes out and says that Isabelle has Down syndrome and I was thinking that any indication of her condition in Bryan Gough's illustrations might well be too subtle for young children to pick up.But then it occurred to me that if a parent was reading this book to young children, or let them read it on their own, and then there was probably already a child with Down syndrome in the family or in the neighborhood.
5-0 out of 5 stars "My Friend Isabelle"
"My Friend Isabelle" is a book that ALL parents should have on their bookshelf. It celebrates the relationship between two children who are different from one another. It is an important book because today's classrooms are becoming more and more diverse. This book is a great tool to introduce these differences.I have been waiting for a book like "My Friend Isabelle".Thank you Ms. Woloson for being so insightful.

5-0 out of 5 stars The World Has Needed This Book for Some Time.
I can't praise this book enough. The illustrations and straightforward story line appeal to children while the message is one all aldults need to see.As the mother of a Down Syndrome child, I was overjoyed at how clearly the message came through that Down Syndrome kids are kids first. They enjoy all the usual childhood activities and enjoy friendships with thier non-Downs peers as well.I plan on purchasing this book for our local public library and our elementary school library as well. ... This book changed my life our forth grade teacher read it to the class after we'd been having troble with cliques. evrything the book talks about is true now we solve our clique problems with out using names or using examples from the book to put the bullys in the bullyed shoes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Friend or Clique?
As an educator (elementary principal), I see students faced daily with decisions that place them to either leave someone out, or they themselves, are left out. Trevor does a fabulous job of explaining how/why a "clique" can be hurtful. Students learn how to spot "a fake", how to make and keep friends, popularity truths/myths, and tips for cliques/friendships. The book is "kid friendly" and an easy-read. At the end of 2006, this book should be made into a dvd and we can't wait! If you are not familar with Trevor's other books/dvds, make sure you check them out. They are a great resource for students - whether you are an educator or a parent.

5-0 out of 5 stars nice
i'd say is mostly for little kids because of the tone and because is a very small book (i read it in 10 minutes) and because it assumes the reader is a kid :)

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Gift for Children
Rising Above the Storm Clouds is a colorful, fun, and powerful book that teaches children both the essence and value of forgiveness. The author cleverly creates a series of similies to help children learn quite easily the beauty of forgiveness. For example, he compares forgiveness to the brightness of the newly born butterfly emerging from a dark cocoon world. He compares forgiveness to the experience of getting in an airplane on a stormy day and rising above the storm clouds as the forgiver bounces on white cottonball clouds all day.He compares forgiveness to a beautiful meadow where friends can come together in thanksgiving and happiness.Children will delight in the depth of this story and how it makes them feel more whole and healthy! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT SERIES
I have all the books from the Learning to Get Along series. They are wonderfully illustrated and written. These are great social story books to help kids. I use them for my son and for the kids I work with at school. My son (5) will just sit and read this books on his own. I absolutely recommend Cheri J Meiners books. (I even have a link on my website for her books)
5-0 out of 5 stars A great series of books, pick any one!
I would highly recommend any of the books in this series by Cheri Meiners. Join In and Play is a great book for parents whose children are shy or may avoid social interactions. It offers a variety of ways they can be included and have fun with their classmates and friends, even illustrating how to ask to join a game or play quietly beside another child. It also would be helpful in helping a more confident, popular child to reach out to quieter, less engaged peers.
5-0 out of 5 stars Join in and Play (Learning to Get Along Series, Book #5)
This series teaches skills that all of us should learn. It helps me as a parent to reinforce principles that I feel my child needs to understand. It's also great that given the choice between the Get Along books and classics such as Hercules...my four year old boy will choose to read the Get Along Series books.

3-0 out of 5 stars Amanda's Review of Chicken Soup for the Teen's Soul on Love & Friendship
I like the Chicken Soup for the Soul books, and I liked this one in particular because it was written for teens. It was, I believe, the first one I read for teens, and I enjoyed reading very much what other teens had to say. On the other hand, though, many of the stories are similar, so after I had read a few, they got a little bit reptitious. Overall, though, it was a good book.

This book is a very good and interesting book to read. It has a lot of personal stories in it that help other people who are going through the same problems understand that they are not alone. The book covered many different topics and I think that's what made it so good. The different topics were; Falling In Love, Breaking Up, Friendship, Tough Times, Family And Love, Acts Of Kindness, and Growing Up. All these things are very critical to a teenager and this is what they all go through.

However, trying to squeeze in surviving the social jungle is a challenge in itself, but with Donna Dale Carnegie's HOW TO WIN FRIENDS & INFLUENCE PEOPLE FOR TEEN GIRLS, it totally doesn't have to be. 5-0 out of 5 stars Important information for all kids
I agree with Dr. Ross's editorial review that "everything about this book is perfect for children." Speak Up and Get Along is a great resource to help kids survive and succeed especially in their social worlds at school. It is clear and easy for them to read. The best thing about it is that there are a lot examples of how to actually deal with bullying and teasing, arguments, peer pressure and making and keeping friends. 4-0 out of 5 stars Beat the Street
In this work three African American doctors tell the story of how they used their brains, loyalty, and few good chances to escape their tough urban neighborhood, go to college and medical school, and become doctors. The book is targeted for an adolescent audience, although there is an adult version, called "The Pact" available. At the end of each chapter, the doctors give some advice to young people who want to achieve more than those around them expect.
1-0 out of 5 stars ew.
I, for one, am not a fan of inspirational stories. I honestly thought that this is one of the most studpid books I ever read. I had to read this for summer reading and I really did not enjoy it. At all. Yay, so three boys from the ghetto became doctors. Incredible. Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn. Don't waste your time. It's stupid.

4-0 out of 5 stars We Beat the Street
A truely inspiring story, who's characters quickly gain your empathy and respect. Following the three men through there lowest and happiest moments is what makes the book so real. This is a great tool for teenagers/young adults who may need the extra push, or example to follow to drive them toward their dreams.A perfect reason for keeping Affirmative action alive.

1-0 out of 5 stars A bit rude itself...
I bought this for a teen with some challenges. He's very smart, but has some social problems and he requested this book because of his new interest in girls. Unfortunately, in trying to "get to their level" this book often introduces new rudenesses and also teaches kids to make light of manners issues.I wouldn't recommend it for most kids under 16, and those over 16 would find it too simplistic. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for kids
I got this book for my daughter for two reasons; one to help her inmpove her reading with something that interests her, and to make accesible to her readings that could help her develop better skills in order for her to become a well adjusted adult when she grows up. This book just satisfied both of my expectations. As soon as she received it, she went into her room and devoured it page by page. She's shared with me some of the ideas and concepts she grasped after reading it and I can only say that I am a satisfied purchaser of many of the books sold by this company. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A REVIEW OF THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD
I think that how Ralph Helfer made this story become so true and so realistic to the readers mind really touched me it is one of the best books i have ever read and ever will read. You cant read this book with out a box of tissues near bye because I cried my eyes out through out the whole book. I can really relate to this book because currently my pony is for sale and i am going to keep track of him forever and hopefully who ever buys him will sell him back to me for my baby cousin who is too young for him now but will be a perfect match as she gets older. Ralph Helfer gets a standing applause for his book Modoc. ... Read more
