Big Book of Trains
I bought this book for my three-year old grandson who had borrowed it from the library. He loves the book! He loves trains and he pours over each page and remembers the details very well. We are very pleased.

Great, informative book
My little guy got this for Christmas and he just loves it.Yes, the cigarette ad is there, but you can cover that up.This book shows so many different trains, many of which I've never heard of.My guy can look at this book for hours and just really learn a bunch.I particularly like the snow trains and JR 500 that goes 186 mph (I didn't know that existed!).Great book and a neat tool to learn something new.There's no storyline at all.Just a big board book with a bunch of pictures and descriptions of all sorts of trains. ... Not for a five year old
I bought this book for my five year old boy.Based on the description, it sounded age appropriate.However, it was a little advanced for him so we returned it.Maybe better for eight and up.

Incredibly simple to learn, no tears
Some art books can make kids cry in frustration with, "I don't get it, I can't do it". I have never had that problem with books from this artist, kids just love these!Ed Emberly has made some wonderful books for kids and grown-ups of any age that have no drawing skills, but want to learn a simple way. His books are the easiest books to get you started if you have no previous drawing skills. He doesn't talk down to you, he doesn't talk at all but uses his step by step method for you to follow. As a result, you can use these books for kids that have language issues. He starts with a step by step illustrated lesson to draw one simple item. First a simple straight line here, then insert a circle then, then another line, step by step along the way and before you know it you have a completed drawing that you can be really proud of. I teach Cub Scouts and this artist makes the perfect book for teaching a class when you are a volunteer yourself that is not an art pro.
Great For Your Older Artist
This is a book that uses stick figures and basic shapes to help children learn to draw more complicated pictures. This is an interactive book to teach drawing. Every little artist will enjoy the simple step-by-step drawings and colorful illustrations that Ed Emberley's Drawing Book of Trucks and Trains contains. Smaller children will learn new words while their older siblings can use the book to learn how to draw more complicated pictures than just stick figures. However, it is somewhat difficult for the four-year-old child. An age recommendation on the book itself would make buying the book a little easier for parents and gift-giving relatives.

Husband loves it
We bought this book for my nephew's birthday but my husband loved it so much we're saving it as his Christmas present so my husband can read it first :) It's full of interesting information.It's great to read to a little one or buy it for a child that can read it on his own...maybe even a kid at heart like my husband.

Really cute book for a good price!
This is a really cute book. My nephew (4 yrs. old) loves listening to me read it to him and looking at the pictures. As a teacher, having a child really interested in something is just the first step to get them to read. I would say that if you have a child who loves trains (like my nephew), then you should really look into getting this book ..... and others like it! :)

Informative and Easy to Understand
My 5-year-old son loves trains and this book has been his favorite library book since he was 3.It is very informative, yet easy to understand forpreschoolers through first-graders.I was so happy to find it onAmazon.com so that we can add it to his personal library!

Makes my child happy
Mentions all the main characters in Thomas. My son loves having the stories read...and read...and read to him.
Very Nice!
Railway Rhymes is a large, colorful board book with "puffy" (padded) covers. What's extra special about this book is the silver edging on this book. Remember those large family Bibles that had gold edges that shone when closed? This book has the same edging, except in silver--making it truly special.

A wonderful book for all ages
I discovered this book at a friend's house several years ago. It was quick bedtime reading. Upon returning home, I got my own copy, and have since given away other examples as Christmas gifts.
Simply fascinating.
This book describes how gigantic steel and iron parts were fabricated and assembled into giant steam locomotives years ago.It is a fascinating read for any one with any mechanical aptitude or interest.The illustrations -- meticulously drawn and rendered by the author -- are spellbinding.You can't help but say "Wow!" when you see some of them.The only negative I saw was the overly warm and folksy background story as told in an autobiographical style by the author.

Marvelous !!
I'm rekindling my fascination with steam locomotives again.I had read this book about 10 years ago and came across it again on my bookshelf. I'm re-reading it with the same joy/fascination I did the 1st time ! (and I'm no kid at 42 years old - would be nice to have a son to share it with!!) I'm glad I haven't lost that child-like wonder at these huge machines of yesteryear.I feel like I'm the young apprentice in the book, ravenously learning the complexicities of designing and building one of the magnificent monsters !Read more

A favorite gift
I first got this book for my son two years ago and we've been giving it as a gift ever since.The rhyming text and colorful pictures hold their attention and the special train info in the back is cute also.My sonloves the other 3 titles in the series: Dazzling Diggers, Roaring Rockets,and Flashing Fire Engines. My little newphew loves, loves trains.At this time this is his favorite train book.We read only every other page.The other pages are to long, but he loves it.And I like the theme of the story.

Excellent activity book for the next long trip
We have enjoyed books illustrated by Edward Miller.His drawings are informative yet playful, and this sticker book has page after page of his scenery.The trains are provided by the imagination of your child as he builds it car by car from the stickers in the center of the book.The printing is excellent quality with multicolor smooth pages.This is a step above a coloring book in terms of page quality and "story".

Very informative
After reading this book, our 3 year old can name every type of rail car. We live near a busy line and he is quite fond of calling out the types of cars he sees.

My 3 year old, like many others his age, is obsessed with trains. We regularly go to the library to check out books about trains. Rosie the riveter
This 104-page six-chapter book is perfect for both children and adults wanting to learn about steam power, railroads and the women who worked on them during the two World Wars. We picked up our copy on a visit a few years ago to the U.S. steam railroad national park in Scranton, Pennsylvania. There a woman curator acted the part of Rosie, providing riveting details from the life of a World War II female railroad worker. The children loved it and insisted on getting this volume. Will encourage young women to go into the "mans' world"

Amazing illustrations!
I was so sad to see someone describe this book as "boring"!The incredible illustrations spark the imagination.My son loves the boys who can suddenly see each other over the short gondola car, the page where the children bend down and wave to each other under the train, the woman who makes the "ohmygoodness" face at the cow leaning out of the cattle car...we love this book because there is something to talk about on every page.It's our favorite bedtime story.

Fabulous illustrations...
My 4 year old son and I stumbled across this book in the library and I immediately knew we had to have our own copy.The poem that constitutes the text of this book is simple and timeless.The illustrations are breathtaking.Each painting depicts the same train at the crossing, the various townspeople waiting at the crossing and the contents of the freight cars.My son loves inventing 'conversations' between the people waiting for the train to pass.A lovely book that is a nice addition to any child's library.

Gorgeous!!
This book arrived in the mail today and since the moment we opened the envelope, my four year old son WILL NOT put it down. I personally loved that it didn't have a "story". It was just like sitting and waiting for the train to go by while you are in your car...one of my sons' most anticipated experiences. He is fascinated with what each type of car is actually called and he loves how big and detailed each drawing is. There are huge drawings of the cows in the cattle car and the coal cars and the pipes. I personally love that there is no lettering on the front cover, just a giant picture of the black engine. Eye Candy for Train Lovers
This book is excellent for a toddler or young child who loves trains. It is also a pleasure for adults to read. The illustrations are sumptuous, and almost seem to glow. The text is simple and makes comparisons between trains ("This train is going uphill. This train is going downhill"), but don't let the simplicity put you off. It's exactly the kind of thing that pre-readers and early readers enjoy the most. New concepts are introduced on each page with rhythmic repetition. Wonderful illustrations
