5-0 out of 5 stars 500-1500 = MEDIEVAL TIMES
I AM IN GRADE 4 AND I LEARNED ABOUT THE MIDDLE AGES
5-0 out of 5 stars A visual introduction to life in Medieval times
I have enjoyed several of the Eyewitness Books, ("Like a mini-museum between the covers of a book" according to "The Los Angels Times Book Review"), and picked up this one because I was reading Michael Crichton's "Timeline."That particular novel involves time travel back to Medieval times, and while the book involves descriptions of clothing, castles and weaponry, and a few sketches, I was looking for something that would help visualization. So "Medieval Life" was a virtual gold mine in that respect.5-0 out of 5 stars Limited info, but great pictures
DK eyewitness books are some of the greatest non-fiction books around. The distinctive white background and high-quality photography gives this book an edge over any other nonfiction picture book. And -- these pictures are real! They're beautiful museum-quality photos of all things related to medival times, accompanied by informative captions and text. Read more

I'm a teacher and I find the Eyewitness books highly educational.I like the way the concepts are presented in a form without backgrounds. This gives clear facts to the reader without over taxing the attention span. The books are highly informative, presenting difficult concepts in comprehendable chunks that stimulate interest.I have almost the whole collection for my own children and they LOVE them! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Reptiles Alive!
Dorling Kindersley does it again.Their "Eyewitness: Reptile" book is full of beautiful photographs and fascinating facts. This book, as with the others in the DK "Eyewitness" series, can be enjoyed as casual reading by readers of all ages, as well as used as a helpful resource book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great deal!
this book was a great deal, in really good condition, and my son loves it! Thanks!

5-0 out of 5 stars This won't be our last Eyewitness book!
This gift from my mother in law for my son sat unused on the shelf for about 2 years before he discovered it at the age of 6.Now suddenly it's the favorite "toy"; dragged to school, on short car trips across town and kept close during every spare moment at home.He knows instantly how to find his favorite spreads on the alligator snapping turtle and the crocodile skulls - invaluable for impressing his friends, teachers and complete strangers. This book inspired a very keen interest, to say the least!

5-0 out of 5 stars Toddler fun
My 2.5 year old son loves this. We make up our own stuff to spy and don't really use the riddles(yet). This is kind of similar to his earlier favorite book(My first word book) which I also recommend. They both have taught him many new words.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love these books!!!
I agree totally with the review from the reader saying " this is a MUST have for the home library ".Our home library has every I Spy book.We love these books.I Spy: a Book of Picture Riddles is a great one to start your collection. As my children 10, 8, and 5 started very young with this book. These books encourage your child to think, to learn, and to explore while they do this with fun and enjoyment.I cannot rave about these books enough because each time you open one up you have a new experience. You will enjoy the many hours of entertainment and time spent with your child as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a MUST for the home library
I bought several (Marzollo) I Spy books for my son when he was 3.Now he's almost 5 and they are still his favorite. Now, my daughter, age 2,enjoys them also. The books have large pages, each consisting of a bigphotograph of intricately laid out objects. The pictures are clever enoughto be enjoyable to adults as well as children of almost any age.Probablythe greatest thing about these books is that they never get old.My sonand I still discover things that we never noticed in 2 years of looking atthe pictures.Even once you solve the poetic riddles in the books, you canmake up your own challenges.I usually read the book with both children atmy side and see if they can find the things that I spy.It is easy to givethem age appropriate challenges - I will give my son something hard to findand give my daughter something easier.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great "bug book"
My 3-year-old grandson is a big Spider-man fan, and he told me he wanted a book about spiders and "bugs." I bought this book because I liked the illustrations. They were clear and accurate, but not frightening. My grandson loves it. He actually goes to bed with it. He and I alternate pointing to the pictures and asking each other, "What is this?" Even though the text is for much older children, the pictures are ageless.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great bug stuff for kids
Our kids loved this book! Not only was it written well enough to keep their interest but it left them wanting more! The descriptions were detailed enough for young minds but did not become a lecture sothat they "glazed over".It made our kids enjoy their learning time. The illustrations were large, detailed and numerous. This book was great for the ages it was written for and even younger; as our three and five year olds loved the pictures and started asking questions right away! This was an over all great book to help get a kid's thirst for learning started! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A beautifully written, tightly wound tale
To prove he has reached the end of his of his apprenticeship, young clock maker Karl most make a figure for the great clock of Glockenheim. The strange Dr.Kalmenius provides Karl with the needed model. Three stories are intricately intertwined in this compelling tale.
2-0 out of 5 stars Clockwork: Or All Wound Down
This is the first time I have ever written a negative review on AMAZON.COM. But I must admit, Clockwork by Phillip Pullman is the worst book I've ever read. OK, so I'm ten, but who would be interested in fathers giving up their hearts for their mechanical sons? Come on.
5-0 out of 5 stars An overlooked gem forreaders ten and up
Set in a German village reminiscent of Grimm's fairy tale world this book will quickly have readers under it's spell. This tale within a tale within a tale concerns a young clockmaker,Karl, who needs to create a figure for the great clock of Glockenheim to mark the end of his apprenticeship.Time is running out for Karl and he is fretful because has not yet made the figure. At this same time Fritz, a young storyteller is telling his latest spooky tale to the villagers. Fritz launches in to a very mysterious tale of a prince, who it is disovered at his "death" is actually kept alive by clockworks rather than by a heart. Also in Fritz's story is a stange man named Dr. Kalmanius. When this highly unusual man is described by the storyteller an identical man suddenly appears. The stunned audience quickly leaves. As the others leave this strange manapproaches Karl and presents him with the needed clock figure "springing" Fritz's tale alarmingly to life.As always Philip Pullman creates a vibrant and engaging cast of characters who will leave an imprint on the reader's memory. The illustrations by Leonid Gore capture both the fairy tale spirit and the horror under the surface. This is a quick but original and engaging read that will appeal to both horror and fairy tale fans.Don't miss it! ... I love this book so, so much because it has a map. I learned that he swims from the warm water to the cold water. There's not much food in the warm water but there's lots of food in the cold water. I learned that a whale's tail goes up and down but a fish's tail goes side to side.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Pictures and Paintings!
Half of this book is about famous paleontologists, what dinosaurs are, and how they became extinct. The next half has at least 80 pictures and paintings of different species of dinosaurs, and a description of their characteristics and how they live.I would especially recommend it to 11 and 12 year olds who know their dinosaurs.WARNING:This is not a little kid's book.It does contain A LOT of information. It has at least a page on each species of dinosaur, but I think it should go into even more detail on these amazing animals.

5-0 out of 5 stars An exciting, surprising book
I got this book as a gift. From the first page, I knew that I liked it! The detailed pictures show texture and are colorful. It is easy to read and understand. On each page there are different boxes with crafts you can do and interesting facts. (for example, some small carnivore dinosaurs ate their young when they were starving.)4-0 out of 5 stars Dynamic Dinos!
We used this book to get a complete overview of these wonderful creatures. The book is large sized and has wonderful color pictures. The text is easy to read for ages 9 and up and can be read aloud to younger kids, sothe book works for whole families. There are all sorts of hands onprojects, great little pieces about some famous dinosaur excavators anddinosaur moments in history.Of course all the information about how theshape of the continents took place, how fossils are made, the geologicaltime, etc. is there and complete. We were really impressed with the easein which we could gather information from the book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for 8 year olds
Both my children, 5 and 2 love this book and all the others that we have purchased in this series. The pictures are fantastic and the text informative.Depending on which child I read to, I either just point at the picture and tell them what it is or read them some of the text.My older child is fascinated at even the most detailed information...not that many kids that age know how to say and describe metamorphosis (in fact I couldn't remember the word now and I ran to ask my son what it was!) but mine does.Later, when they can read, I know that they are going to love going to even more detail by reading the books themselves. And when my children ask me questions, then these books are great to look up answers you don't know. These books are excellent!
