Reading teachers
Grades 5 and up.This informational text is listed for ages 4-8, but it really applies to older children based on the language and content. The style of questioning will engage the younger reader, but the answers and the humor may be lost on them. Older readers would have the background knowledge to appreciate the humor and style Munoz-Ryan uses to engage the reader about how raisins are "raised". This book could easily be used in an interdisciplinary unit. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of specific units in most curricula that lend itself to the study of raisins. ... Read more

I LOVE THIS BOOK
I Loved this book.I would pick one story a day and read it to my 6th graders and they would beg me to read more.

I found this book very entertaining and interesting and the average intermediate student will too!It's good to have books that demystify and entertain at the same time.A person will learn a lot more from this book than from a dry textbook.Thanks!

Incredible and educational--highly recommended!!
This book is fascinating in how it discusses the many complexities of the human body; i could hardly put it down.It gives a recipe for such struggles as diarrhea (e.g. 1/2 tsp. honey, pinch of salt, and 1 cup apple juice together then stir & drink it down).Other trivia include such details as to how long the small intestine is (23 ft.) or when you sleep you burn 65 calories an hour.Another fun one for all of us stress living humans, "stress can cause the muscles to tighten making you want to "go".Humans have 16 million smell sensors; a rabbit has 100 million.Definitely a book all ages can appreciate and "wow" over as we appreciate the wonderful machine, the human body that we live in. ... Very cute, and useful too
This is a really cute and useful book.It has a lot of color illustrations to make it very attractive for a child to read.Also, the concept of cooking over your campfire -- or over several different types of home-made grills that they teach you how to make -- is fun and different.This actually seems to be book two of a series -- the first looks like it's called "Cooking on a Stick, Campfire recipes for kids" by Linda White.

My Favorite Makeup Artist
I have read many, many books and how-to articles on the art of makeup, and I must say that this is my favorite, and Joey Mills is my favorite makeup artist.In the seventies, he presented a makeup design in a teen magazine, "The New Ingenue".I wore that design to an event, and a man there told me I looked stunning.I've been hooked on Joey ever since.What a shame this great book is out of print.Mr. Mills provides us with a classic makeup design adaptable to all women and the variations for that basic design, from outdoors to evening to bedtime.Explicit advice on makeup tools and application techniques are also offered.Many application techniques are presented through photographs.Best of all, the colors required (classified by skin tone, hair color, and eye color) are presented by means of color swatches rather than verbal descriptions such as "medium olive" or "light copper". And, hallelujah, these color swatches are again reproduced on tear-out pages in the back of the book, the better to go shopping with.However, another reason I give Mr. Mills five stars is the reaction I have gotten while wearing the makeup outlined in this book. I've actually gone twice into a shop selling Dunkin' Donuts and given free food!So what could be better than that to a woman with a sweet tooth?Ladies, you owe it to yourselves to buy this essential book while it's still available! ... Simple Suggestions for Fun Holidays
I liked this book because it had one or two simple activities that you could do with your children in order to learn something about secular holidays. There was a green eggs recipe in order to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday (March 2nd) and then a little lesson about how to respond when you are served foods you don't like.
