5-0 out of 5 stars Digestion from Start to Finish
This book is about a diner cook who loves to eat healthy food and we find out what happens to that food in this well written and illustrated book by Paul Showers and Edward Miller. There are little experiments and up close photos of digestive organs which can delightfully gross out your child while one reads and learns about this important system of the body.
5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book!
My 5-year-old son thinks it is good because it teaches how the food gets digested. My 8-year-old daughter thinks she learned a lot from the book.I personally enjoy reading it too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy enough for my 3-year-old to understand!
I checked this book out from the library, and now I have to buy it because my son keeps asking for the "hamburger book". It has lots of pictures for the little ones to understand and both simple and complexwording for kids in different language learning stages. My son is so proudthat he can say "epiglotis" and tell you what it is! This bookcertainly answers the question "where does poop come from?" in achild-friendly way. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fruits and Vegetables
The thing that I really like about this book was that all the sentences weren't the same. It did not just say "these are bananas, these are tomatoes" all the time, but integrated questions, and even characteristics of the fruits and vegetables. The pictures are bright and colorful, and made me want to go buy a piece of fruit right then. I would highly recommend this book as a useful and practical tool for learning the names of basic fruits and vegetables in both English and Spanish. It is very likely that you will find yourself practicing these words at home when you are eating a piece of watermelon, or chopping a pepper for dinner. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A very nice cookbook for children...and even adults!
I bought this book mainly because I liked the "retro-ness" of it. It has WONDERFUL retro illustrations on every page, and so is a very attractive cookbook for children. Of course, the look isn't the main issue in a cookbook, and I will say the other features are near excellent too. The spiral binding is a real plus. A cookbook needs to lie flat! The pages are very sturdy. It has handy sections; the first one being several pages illustrating various kitchen tools and equipment. If a child says, "What is a sieve?" they can find it pictured in this section. This section can also be a helpful checklist for a child who wants to start collecting their own kitchen items. There also is a section illustrating the proper way to set a table, a section in the back consisting of several pages to record your own favorite recipes, a section on kitchen safety tips, a section on how to measure, and a page illustrating how to test the freshness of the eggs in your fridge by putting them in a glass of water and seeing if they float or not (the higher an egg floats in a glass of water, the older it is).
5-0 out of 5 stars Adorable cookbook!
I bought this for my 4 year old daughter after she spotted it in a store. It is beautifully illustrated and has a retro feel which I love. Recipes are simple, perfect for children (or adults) of any age. We made blueberry muffins and can not make to make many more! This would make a great gift. I purchased a second copy to give along with a child's apron.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous cookbook for kids
Kids will love it. The whole look and feel of the book is designed to invite kids in and make cooking fun rather than intimidating or complicated. The book is beautifully designed with nice touches like a big spiral binderand heavy pages that allows the book to lie flat and stay open to a certain page... perfect for kids. The recipes are simple and taste great. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars True bestseller
I bought the first copy of this book during my son's elementary school book sale. My son is going to college this fall and I am buying a copy to send with him to school and a few for his friends. It is the most used cookbook in the house. I cannot even count how many I bought over the years.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST-HAVE
I purchased this book for my [...] peanut-allergic daughter after discovering it at the library. She absolutely LOVES it and has me read it to her again and again. She also brought it to school during "Nutrition Week" and her teacher read it to the class, and also thought it was fabulous. The book realistically addresses the issue of living with peanut allergies, but in a very child-appropriate format.Every grade-school age child should read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
My five year old son has food allergies and is starting Kindergarten this year. He is the first child at his school to have food allergies and I have been searching at the library for a book to give to his teacher to read to his class to help them understand. I read it myself first and was a bit hesitant to read it to my son because it shows what happens when a child has an allergic reaction (he was one when he had his reactions and obviously doesn't remember). I was afraid he might be scared. When I read it to him, however, he loved it, as did his younger brother who is allergy-free. I think it made my allergic child feel better to see someone else with the same allergies as him. I also think it helped him realize just how important it is for him to not touch peanut butter even if he is being teased. And, yes, I know that at some point in life, he will be teased because of this. This is a great book and I am buying two copies today - one for his class and one for us here at home.

1-0 out of 5 stars I hated this book
Horrible book.My son is allergic, and I thought this book would be good to have for him.I was wrong!I will never read it to his class. The book has a bully who teases the allergic boy for not being able to make a craft with peanut butter.I feel that the book gives the wrong message.I think it could give kids ideas. ... I got this book from the library but after flipping through it, we bought it.My 8 year old has been able to follow the step-by-step directions that are clear and easy to understand. We started with the Torn Tortilla Bake that made a great side dish.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous way to introduce a child to the kitchen
I've long been a fan of Mollie Katzen's cookbooks: she is so very user-friendly and clear in her writing. My most battered (so to speak) cookbook is Still Life with Menu. So Rowan (my ex's little boy, who is my "best friend," as he tells people) turned eight last week or so. He's been my cooking buddy since he was big enough to stand on a chair next to my stove (age two). He thinks I am the best cook in the world (and I'm not going to correct him).

5-0 out of 5 stars The United States Cookbook
As the mother of a 10 year old daughter who loves both cooking and social studies, I was very impressed by the authors' creativity in combining both into one excellent volume. The choice of recipes were very appropriate, from the standpoint of preparation by a child, what youngsters like to eat, and what the region is known for. What makes this kid-friendly cookbook unique, though, is the interesting information about the states that preceeds each entry.I found myself reading through the pages to learn fascinating information about the history, local customs, etc. without even needing to cook anything that day.It gives you something to pass the time while your meal is in the oven, too!Truly a great book--I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Hungry Backpacker
This is a must have book for the backpacker. It is full of great recipes and cooking hints.I would recommend this to anyone packing thier own food.

5-0 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong with June
I like my backcountry meals to come together easily at home from easily purchased ingredients, to be very lightweight, and to cook quickly in camp so they don't waste time and fuel. At the same time, I can't stand most packaged meals and find that simply adding boiling water to a packaged meal yields only UFOs: Unidentifiable (and inedible) Floating Objects. I'm not interested in wasting time, money, and weight on being "gourmet" in the backcountry. *The Well-Fed Backpacker* by June Fleming strikes the perfect balance for me. For her recipes that I like the best, the shopping is easy, the preparation at home and in camp is easy, the weight is light (especially Cheesy Bacospuds), and the taste is good to great. This is the most practical recipe book for backpackers that I know of.

4-0 out of 5 stars This Is The One
I went over the backpacking cookbooks offered on Amazon using the extremely useful viewable pages, and selected the three I thought were best. Of the three I purchased, the Well-Fed-Backpacker is notably more informative. It is in that class of books known as perennial favorites, first published in 1976 and still a very strong book today in its third edition. If you are buying one or three as I did, be sure to include this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK FOR ALL AGES!
Great book!I purchased this book because I have a student who was recently diagnosed with diabetes.I wanted the class to understand what their classmate was going through and to answer any questions they may have.I truly believe that educating children on issue such as this will help enhance their lives as well as the child who is experiencing it first hand. Thanks Kim, for a wonderful book for all ages!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book to Send to School!
My daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes three years ago. Every year since, I've asked her teachers to let her read this book to the class at the beginning of the year. This is a great tool for the other children tounderstand what Diabetes is, why my daughter gets special snacks at specialtimes, but most importantly it lets them know that she is just like everyother kid. Having Diabetes is hard enough on children without the addedstress it can cause at school. I encourage all parents who are in myposition to make this book a part of your school education efforts. Itshouldn't replace the training materials and meetings, but addresses theoften overlooked element of how to help the child with Diabetes fit intothe classroom. ... Read more

I will admit; I have been struggling with body image and "looks" for about as long as I can remember. This book by Kimberly Kirberger helps me to realize that no body is perfect, and that you need to embrace what you look like and have. If you can totally accept yourself the way you are, then you are on your way to success.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Clever - and Very Fun! - Book.
I recently saw the author interviewed on "Unwrapped", and knew I had to have this book.Yep, I was one of those who always wanted - but never got - an Easy-Bake Oven! The book is a blast. The trivia and facts are interesting, and I especially loved reading the chefs recollections of their first experiences cooking with one. Some of the recipes are quite complex (I'm not sure I'd even be capable of trying them in a regular oven!) but that's all part of the fun.Would love to see a show like this on TV, where chefs compete to create gourmet dishes using a not so gourmet (but hugely popular) item.Anyone at Food Network listening?!?

3-0 out of 5 stars Eat a cute peeping quail yes! for children no...
Well I will have a blast with this book but my daughter asked me mommy whats a quail? I knew we were a bit out of our range with this book with the first recipe in being roasted hot mexican peppers. I was dissapointed that there was no recipe for pretzels, I remember making those as a kid? They needed more kid friendly feasts. We loved the old school photos in the book, history and the photo essay of changes through the ages with the oven.
4-0 out of 5 stars Better for adults than for kids
Having fond memories of my sister's Easy-Bake oven and being a fan of cooking shows, I enjoyed thumbing through the Easy-Bake Oven Gourmet. Being rather practical, I was glad that "Warm Memories" recipes from past Easy-Bake oven cookbooks were included; my kids and I are more likely to try those than the more complicated recipes created by the well-known chefs.I'd agree with an earlier reviewer that Kristen Joyal's Baking with Mommy Cookbook is a better choice for families who want delicious kid-sized oven recipes that are kid-friendly in terms of ease and taste. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for the Price
My son is 2 1/2 and love Blues Clues, so this book was a win.It is interactive: lifts & flaps, and searches for "blues clues."Very colorful and exciting for a young child.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent gift for a Jewish baby
We received this book as a gift after our daughter was born. At first, only we understood the cute rhymes. Now our daughter is old enough to recognize many of the foods and understand the book. It's so nice to see our family's traditional foods reflected in a children's book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another good one!
My kids have all of Amy Wilson Sanger's books. This one is probably their least favorite, though it's still good. Part of it may be my fault - I am not at all familiar with this food and so hesitate a little more over the words and don't get a good rhythm going. If you know your Jewish food, you probably would enjoy this just as much as the others. The pictures are still wonderful!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Around the world in your Kitchen
This is a really fun cookbook. It gives a sampling of recipes from numerous countries around the world. It is also sensitive to availabily of ingredients, nothing strange or exotic that isn't available at the local grocers. Our kids have enjoyed cooking with it and we have certainly benefited from their efforts! It's great to see them going beyond Mac and Cheese and actually learning about cooking. They are already finding it is a creative outlet, that just happens to meet the need of eating.

5-0 out of 5 stars Taste the World!
Many of my family's favorite foods are "ethnic" so we thought we'd dive right in and discover what else the world is eating that we haven't tried yet. Just looking through the pages makes you want to start cooking! We'll be better prepared now, to dodge the familiar "What's for dinner?" with an enthusiastic response and a taste adventure. Children of all ages can prepare most of the dishes, and there are activities and trivia from several countries represented in the book. We decided to buy it after briefly looking through a library copy.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to international food for young people.
Ms. Cook obviously put a lot of effort into this compilation of recipes and facts. She interviewed children around the world to find out about the things they eat, and pictures of some of these children are shownthroughout the book. The book is divided into regions of the world bycontinent, and the recipes are rated for difficulty with spoons- one spoonis the easiest, and three spoons requires at least moderate adult help andsupervision. Many of the foods turn out to be familiar dishes withdifferent names (like Sherpa Popcorn and Ox-Eye Eggs), and there are ideasfor theme parties (after-ski breakfast, ice cream buffet, etc.) throughoutthe book. I originally bought this book for my then-10-year-old sister, whowas just beginning to show an interest in cooking, and now that she is 13she still uses this book. A lot of these recipes are easy and quick enoughto be used in a classroom or school cooking club. I bought a copy of thisbook for myself and think it is truly neat! ... Read more
