5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful read for all Laura fans!
This is another great book by this team of authors who really know how to present information in a lively, easy to read format, with wonderful illustrations! Book features new crafts revolving around themes from the books and the period, time lines of events happening in the world during Laura's time, information about the real life stories of the Ingalls and Wilder families. An enjoyable book for child or adult readers with lots of projects that can be done together. If you have not read the other Collins / Eriksson books, I highly recommend searching though Amazon for the others, they are all fantastic! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great kids' cookbook
My son received this cook book when he was five and has enjoyed making the recipes.Of all of the kids' cookbooks we have, this is the most kid-friendly.Simple, step-by-step instructions with drawings to show them exactly how to do it. And, it is great at stating when an adult helper needs to be involved. The recipes are easy enough for 5-7 year olds (or 41 year olds!) and gives a great sense of accomplishment when finished.Although not a lot of variety (3-4 recipes per section), it's got enough to warrant the purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Keeper
Like many of the other reviewers, I received this book as a gift when I was about 8 years old.I am now 25, and I still make those chocolate chip cookies!I, too, have tweaked the recipe a bit in terms of varieties of chocolate, etc, but the basic recipe is still "Darrell's."I may have worked my way up to Pierre Herme and Francois Payard, but this book started it all and stands the test of time!

5-0 out of 5 stars "Prize Winning" Cookies
My Children received this great book as a gift when they were little. My daughter (now 25) won 2nd prize for her "Darrell's Forget-the-cookies-just-give-me-that-batter" chocolate chip cookies in the county fair's jr division when she was just 10.We have used that recipe as well as the delicious "Disgustingly Rich Brownies" hundreds of times over the years.Highly recommended book!! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Obsolete unhealth information recanted by FDA
This old book is based on the highly flawed 1992 FDA Food Pyramid. The CDC documented the rise in American obesity in direct response to the publication and propigation of the Food Pyramid. In 2005, the FDA recanted their obsolete unhealthy information (with diabetes-causing high glycemic index foods at the foundation of the old Food Pyramid).
4-0 out of 5 stars A little mistake on one page
I was surprised that on the, "Dry Beans & Nuts" page of this book, peanuts were listed as a nut. Maybe the author wanted to teach that peanuts can be a source of protein, but I don't like the idea of teaching inaccurate information! These days, people learn that nuts grow on trees, that peanuts are not nuts andthey grow under the ground. Has the author read any food allergy articles describing peanuts as a legume related to the pea or bean? Or her editor? Fortunately, peanuts were listed close to the "Dry Beans" list, because other legumes such as peas and lentils were also listed.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book to teach the food pyramid to young children!!!
I am a first grade teacher in Indiana.I used this book with my students when studying the food pyramid. It was a big success. The illustrations were very bright and kept the students attention! The text idea of therestaurant was fun for the children.Their most favorite part was tryingto figure out what the creature was that kept trying to get some food. Look and see if you can guess!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great entry point
If you're just beginning the road to weight loss, this is a great guide to get you started. It's conversational, and has a safe approach to weight loss.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very good information.
This book was filled with a lot of information. Even though i'm not currently sticking to the "program", I found out a lot of information that I could share with others who are trying to get into a healthy life-style. If I ever get sick of being so over-weight, then I would find this book very useful. The only thing it did not do was make me realize how much I need to lose weight. But that isn't the book's fault. It's mine because nobody can get it thru my head that if I don't lose weight, I could have very bad health problems later on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Really hit the nail when it comes to helping teenagers cope witht their weight problem.Jay addressess everything from how to have a positive out look on life to ways to start taking control of your weight.I was surprised at how much sense it made to me.It was like this book was written with me in mind.It addressed all the feelings i had towards myself and my weight and made me realized that their more to me than just how much i weighed. This book was surprising well written.Jay is a really talented writer and I thought this was just a knock off of Dr. Phils book, but this book really addressess teens and their issues in a way that is easy to relate to.Well Done. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent compilation of recipes for the holidays!
When Bon Appetit and other prestigous publications give this one rave reviews, that's a hint that you might have a "find"...and they are right. From Sabbath to Passover, there are recipes that are delicious, generally very easy to prepare and clearly explained. Although designed for children, I think thisone would be excellent for anyone who wants to become an excellent Jewish cook. It is like having a crash course in both the essentials and some special variations.
5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource I use again and again.
I couldn't disagree more with the first review. With two small children, I rely heavily on this book as Jewish holidays come and go and have enjoyed many cooking experiences with my kids as a result.Furthermore, the recipes are consistently delicious! My kids and I have prepared Yemenite High Holiday Stew and Bread for Yom Kippur, Apple-Honey cupcakes, Hamantaschen, Aunt Lisl's Butter Cookies, and the ice-cream cupcake menorah featured on the cover, as well as a tender and delicious challah. There are many suggestions throughout for ways children can take part in the cooking, and often the menu suggestions accompanying each holiday have given me ideas of foods my children will actually eat.As a cook and an authority on Jewish cooking, Joan Nathan is no slouch; her contributions to the New York Times cooking section are significant and her adult-oriented cookbook "The Jewish Holiday Kitchen" is an exhaustive resource of Jewish dishes that is equally wonderful. In fact, I was reluctant to try this book because I doubted she could switch gears and write a children's cookbook that was really useable, but I contend she has done it!I can't imagine my cookbook library without this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars A remedial recipe book- very limited CRAFTY ideas
I would not even give this book one star.I was VERY disappointed with this book.I was expecting a CRAFTY kitchen book for childen based on the pictures on the front cover. This book primarily consists of traditional recipes for the holidays but gives instructions such as child mixes this.. adult stirs that.Example of receipes include: grape juice, hallah, chicken soup, matzah balls, pot roast, peeling a pamagranet, etc. There is nothing unique or special about these recipes. If you are buying it for your children- don't. and if you are buying it for the recipes- don't.There are many other better Jewish holiday cookbooks out there to choose from. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A classic in an over stimulating era.
A wonderful book. This is not a toddlers story book, with 3 letter words that rhyme and bright colored pictures to make up what the story lacks. This is a childrens book (8,9,10,11) to help them understand why they may choose to be vegetarian.
1-0 out of 5 stars Save the money
This has to be the worst book for vegetarian kids that I've come across. It doesn't get any more bland and unexciting than this. Save your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars best vegetarian book
Wow! I really loved this book. I am 11 years and I am vegetarian. Alot of kids at school have made fun of me because I am vegetarian. I asked my mom why they make fun of me because I dont eat meat and she told me it was because there arent many vegetarians out there. A few weeks later she gave me this book. I read it over the weekend and I really loved this book. Thank you Ann Bradley for writing such a neat book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A concise, yet thorough history of a wonderful food.
Most of us carry out an intense love affair with chocolate. To some, it is a fundamental part of our love affair with another human and to a few, it ignites the passion in their life. This book describes the history of chocolate, and like some foods, one wonders how it was first discovered. Until I read this book, I did not realize how chocolate is made. It is derived from the seeds inside the fruit of the tree and requires a great deal of processing before it reaches the form that we love. This was an interesting book to read, well illustrate it is a concise, yet thorough introduction to the history of one of my favorite foods.

4-0 out of 5 stars Read this one with a Hershey bar!
Chocolate: Riches from the Rainforest tells the story of chocolate. The book begins by discussing where chocolate comes from and who discovered it.It goes on to describe how the ancient Maya and Aztecs drank chocolate regularly and offered it to their gods, and how the Spanish added sugar to chocolate to give it the sweet taste. The book also describes how chocolate making has changed over time and how it is made today. In addition, the book includes a glossary of terms used in the book and an author's note about some of the things he learned while writing the book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for the Anecdotes, If Not the Recipes
First, my biggest beef with this cookbook is that it has no index. (What kind of cookbook has no index??) Second, it bears little actual relevance to the show, other than the anecdotal trivia that Kasey Rogers (AKA Louise Tate) supplies, having been a former cast member.
4-0 out of 5 stars Delightful
Reading this fun cookbook brought back alot of childhood memories of Samantha , Serena , Endora , Uncle Arthur , the whole gang. I found it quite fun and entertaining with silly titles and quotes from the show. Ifyou are any kind of a Bewitched fan then this is a good book for yourcollection of memorabilia.I wish Bewitched could have gone on forever [itstill does with reruns from Nick at Night] as we need constant reminders ofthe magic that we all behold no matter how big or small.

1-0 out of 5 stars Loise Tate the second cashes in with this garbage
As a quasi-famous TV personality, Kasey Rogers, who played the second Louise Tate on 'Bewitched', has written a bafflingly insignificant book cashing in on the strong residual popularity of a television classic. Thebook is filled with inane, contrived information she herself has inventedabout the show's cast of characters and the actual recipes our dubiousauthoress has included are impractical and hardly what anyone wouldgenuinely consider making. In short, Ex-TV star with to much time on handswrites drivel. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Worth The Price
This is a children's cookbook, so be forewarned (something I did not realize when I purchased the item). While the instructions and introduction to Brazil are "nice enough", the number of recipes are sorely lacking. This book does not give a reasonable cultural or recipe sampling for the asking price.
1-0 out of 5 stars Complete rip off - do not buy! Nao comprar!
$25.00 for a 72 page book? What are the publishers thinking? What was I thinking when I ordered it? I expected a full-fledged cookbook, something with chapters and many recipes per chapter. There are exactly 18 recipes in this child-sized volume.I see on the back of the "book" that Lerner Books offers over thirty titles in this "easy menu ethnic" series. Incredible that they can sell so little for so much. It is the only title I have ever returned to amazon. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Outstanding !
Not just a great collection of recipes, this book has many wonderful little-known facts of American culinary history, such as the rise of "victory gardens,"how the Caeser salad came about, and the origins of a ton of classic american dishes. It doesn't just give you the facts in list fashion:the author does an excellent job of summarizing the relevant time period and explaining why certain foods were preferred by people and how they came to be. I'm in my 30's and I love it just for the history!A+++!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
About a year ago, I checked out this book from the school's library (I was very suprised they had a book on vegetarianism). It has alot of information on becoming a vegetarian, has Q & A sections and tells you about different kinds of non-meat diets, such as "fruititarian", when you only eat fruit. I think all children and teen vegetarians should read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books written for kids that I've read
The cover of I'm A Vegetarian features three kids who appear to be about 11 to 20 years old, a clue that this book is written for "tweens" and teens. The writing style is simple, easy-to-understand, and fun-to-read, making it a sure winner for this age group. However, the book would appeal just as much to parents and younger children. The author and her husband have raised two vegetarian daughters, and her connection with what veg kids want and need to know is clear and strong. She has a knack for presenting facts and information that keeps your attention, and most importantly, will appeal to young minds.5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for providing comfort & education to young veg's
This book is written in a very fun, age-appropriate style. It highlights many of the concerns and interests of the young vegetarian. It includes jokes, recipes, information, comebacks, and even famous vegetarians.A great read for the young vegetarian, especially one you may be afraid of losing to peer pressure.NOTE:Although veganism is mentioned, the book focuses on vegetarianism, not veganism. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Concept
As a graphic designer, I found this book to be a great idea, very well designed, easy to follow, very well organized, visually attractive and very fun. I'm sure the kids will love this book. As a grown-up kid, I did.

5-0 out of 5 stars A parent's dream come true
I am an educator and a parent of two. I fell in love with this book the moment I opened it. Not only is it a fun book with great, easy recipes, but it is developmentally appropriate. The recipes give the children a sense ofpride and success and is a great self-esteem booster. The meals and snacksare nutritious and gives me a night off from cooking once in awhile. Thisbook is a treasure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Girls AND boys absolutely love this book
I'm a 4th grade teacher and bought this book for my classlibrary. Boys as well as girls fight over who gets to take ithome... only Harry Potter got that much attention before. Now they'rebuying their own copies. The children know the book is written for them -- it's clear and funny and thinks like a kid. The recipes are easy to make and actually have nutritional value. I like that it encourages children to be safe and clean up when they're done. This is a smart, fun, well thought-out cookbook. Good work! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Early 90's version- A+
I also have the early 90's version and it is great. All of the recipes are kid-friendly and family-friendly. I can whip up any of these recipes in a hurry or allow my 6 year old or 2 year old help out. I haven't seen the new version with the colors but this one has mormal font and pictures of each recipe. It is like a grown up cookbook but with the kids favorite foods!

2-0 out of 5 stars Where did they hide the batteries to power the colors???
The classic easy-to-use and pantry-friendly Better Homes and Garden Cookbook is pretty much in every kitchen in America and chances are, it's already in yours too.If so, then then there's nothing in this obnoxiously-colored cookbook for kids that you couldn't find in either the adult BH & H cookbook or a back issue of Family Circle. With a few exceptions, (most notably the breakfast pizza and the Hula Stir Fry) it's all extremly standard fare. The only thing that sets it apart is the crazy fonts and colors so obnoxious that I had to wait ten minutes between reading it and writing this review so I could see straight again.I mean, are you really in need of another chicken nugget recipe?Isn't there anything more interesting they could come up with? And it isn't written to make the cooking any easier for kids--they might as well grab your adult copy and save their vision.
5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest book I have in my kitchen.
First things first this review refers to the early 90's New Junior Cookbook. Second of all I am not a kid I'm just a 23 year old who lives in an assisted living Duplex who is learning how to cook to become more independent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for kids
My 9year old son found this book brillant he could really associate with it and found it very informative and funny.

5-0 out of 5 stars I wish I had this book 6 years ago!
When my daughter was diagnosed with Celiac Disease 6 years ago it truly took me over a year to figure out how to live with her new dietary needs. The GF Kid explains,in a clear and concise way, EVERYTHING you need to know. From specific foods to an easy medical explanation, Paris delivers her message in an upbeat, positive manner.I give a copy of this book to all my daughters teachers in the beginning of the year and I also read it to her class to explain why she eats differently than her classmates.Everyone "gets it" after reading this book. Both the writing and the illustrations are fantastic!Anyone who knows someone with Celiac Disease should purchase this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent gift for "parents of" or from "parents to" children
This re-issue of the 1955 classic is full of fun and tasty recipes that parents can use in an enjoyable and productive way to spend quality time with their children. These fun and simple recipes can also build confidence in young people when they learn they can create a variety of foods for themselves, their friends and their families. An excellent addition to every kitchen.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great cookbook for beginners of ALL ages!
Someone gave me this cookbook when I was a child-yes, one of the original prints! I've kept it all these years for sentimental reasons and, also, we still like to use some of the recipes! The recipe for french toast is still used to this day! I remember trying out so many of the recipes and they're still hard to beat. I fully recommend this cookbook for "kids" of all ages. For mom's (and dad's,too!) this is a great way to involve the kids in cooking and baking. They can help read the directions and prepare the recipe, too! A great buy!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Comfort Food Cookbook
A fabulous book for the adult beginner cook, as well as for children. For those who collect cookbooks, as I do, especially vintage, this is definitely a title to add. The recipes are clear, concise, and easy to follow. The illustrations are pure 1950's Americana, and one could easily picure Beaver Cleaver learning to cook from this book. Comfort Food for the Cookbook lover! ... Read more
