5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING ART ANIMATION

5-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic example of concept art for anybody!
Apart from the fact that my copy was close to pocket size, i thought that this book was fantastic. Not only does it come filled with amazing concepts, it also is accompanied with the Lion King Storyline. As an illustrator and student animator, it is a wonderful addition to my resources. The sketches through to the complete full colour images are for any Lion King fan, artists or just someone wanting a beautiful coffee table book. If your from overseas like myself and cannot get these kind of books in Australia, i reccommend Amazon and their associate stores. Buy this, its great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the "The Art Of" series!
I received this book as a birthday present last month. To say the least, Iwas overwhelmed with all the artwork in this book. I love it! The artworkand production animation is breathtaking! 5-0 out of 5 stars Jolly Postman Book
This was my favorite childhood book! It was just as fun reading it now as it was then, and I don't even have kids! Every child should have this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Classical Treasure
This is one of those children's books that is a treasure for generations.Although it is a bit fragile for toddlers, the "envelope" page format is very intruiging for children beginning to read. Everyone likes to look at something "hidden".

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun learning
This story is a fun trip into fairyland where children not only get to imagine the daily lives of their favorite faiytale characters, but also get help in learning about how to write a letter. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My Children Love this book!!!!
My Children are 15 months old and we read this one almost every night. It's a sweet rhyming story with a happy ending!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Charming book!
I love this book and so does my 3 year old boy.The story is adventurous and has a nice, subtle ecological lesson. It also has a lesson about how you can be little but still accomplish great things. The pictures are gorgeous. The whole story rhymes and has such a nice rhythm.

4-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book
Mum's opinion: The Snail and the Whale is a delight to read with the rhyming text and adventurous journey around the world. To pick two creatures so totally different in every respect is pure genius and works like a dream. Not sure who got the most pleasure from this--me reading it or the little one listening.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for 8-11 year olds
I think this book has a good amount of information in it for kids in the 8 - 11 year old age bracket. They introduce skills and strategies that many novice coaches may not be providing.I wish that some of the skills were illustrated in more detail. For example, just mentioning that you should keep your toe pointed down for an instep kick is not sufficient; it is critical to have the heel locked down.A better illustration would help emphasize points like this.Overall I would very much recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most wonderful Canadian folk story
As a kid growing up in Ontario I heard this poem a million times. Now that I have a daughter of my own, I absolutely love sharing it with her. This is Service's masterpiece and it is beautifully accompanied by Ted Harrison's inspired paintings. We enjoy looking at the pictures as much as rolling through the perfectly paced tale of the gold rush.Anthony Yanow

5-0 out of 5 stars wish i had this when I was young
Clear, concise explanation of our financial systems. Great tool to introduce kids to having control over their resoures.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is helpful and useful
Let me explain to everyone who says otherwise, the point of this book was NOT to make children think that stock marketing was the only way to get money. No, the book was just trying to teach children about stock marketing so they could understand it and could possibly use it no or when they get older. I think the book had great details and explained the stock market very accurately.

5-0 out of 5 stars A superior and highly recommended introductory guide
Gail Karlitz's Growing Money: A Complete Investing Guide For Kids is an exceptional investing guide in that it is written specifically to teach children (and adults!) how to make their money work for them. Covering savings in a bank, bods, stocks, and how to read the financial pages, Growing Money is a superb guide - and since it's written simply enough for a young person to learn from, it also makes excellent starter reading for adults who have never dabbled in investing before. The prose text is in large type and very straightforward, but does not talk down to the reader. Growing Money is a superior and highly recommended introductory guide, especially for the young people growing up in this brand new era of electronically transmitted investment capital. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Educational and Fun
My 3 year old daughter loves it.It explains the process at a level she can understand.Great when used with the Butterfly Garden.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Butterfly Book for Preschool-Third Grade
I am the director of a lower school (pre-k-2nd) and we have used this book for years. It is the perfect way to introduce children to the wonderful world of metamorphosis. And if you can also actually get the Painted Lady Butterflies and "grow" them in your class, it is an invaluable experience. We have our children keep journals and then buy them each a copy of this great book (it's cheap in paperback) and they get to keep the experience forever. One correction to another review: painted ladies and all butterflies do spin chrysalids, not cocoons. They look similar, but the chrysalis usually has little specks of gold in it, which is where the name comes from. Yes I am a huge fan of this book--and a huge fan of butterflies. This author also has a lovely book about honeybees, called Honeybees.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE Book to accompany Butterfly Houses, Pavillions
We got this book in addition to a home "Butterfly Pavillion" by InsectLore. It prepared my son and us for what to expect as the Painted Lady Butterflies were developing through each stage. So even duringthe lulls in the action, we could spark some anticipation. Which heightened the whole process for my 5 year old. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for 4 year olds
My daughter has been asking more and more questions about the differences between boys and girls and about how babies grow (due in part to the number of family members who are currently pregnant). We answer her very frankly, and she seems satisfied with our responses; however, we thought it might be a good idea to read her a book that could perhaps show her some illustrations and present some information we might not have addressed fully, to clarify a little more.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great introductory book for 4-9 year olds
I read this book to each of my 3 kids when they were about 5 years old.All of them had lots of questions and the book was written just at their level; not too much information but enough so that they understood.I think it's a great book to start with!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
This is a wonderfully illustrated, easy to understand, easy to read, unintimidating book. It's intended audience is Pre-School thru Grade 3 which I feel is critical information for anyone looking into buying this book. It is a wonderful book for those parents who want their children to learn at an early age the correct names of body parts and the basics of where babies come from. This book has been on my children's (ages 4-9) book shelf since the oldest one was two years old! It sits on the shelf right along-side all the other 100's of bedtime books. They go back to it time and time again either to read to themselves or to be read to. From the start they learned the accurate words for body parts, understand the basics, and take in more and more information/digest the information as they grow older. As the oldest (9) has questions she openly asks them. I either go over it again from the book or we talk openly. Parents who wait to discuss the topics until age 9 will find this book to be an untimidating first book -- very good. As the children grow older (puberty thru teens) I intend to add more detailed (less cartoonish illustrations) books to our discussions. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief - Book One
Have you ever wandered what happened to the Greek gods and their children? This book will explain it all. This book called the Lightning Thief, shows every angle of what happened to Percy (who got kicked out of hiss boarding school), Annabeth, and Grover to find Zeus's Lightning Bolt that someone stole. I would recommend this book to people who like Greek mythology and has special powers (for example Percy has a water power. He has a special ability to breathe in the water).
5-0 out of 5 stars The Lighting Thief
Percy is going to bi kicked out of boarding school again, but that is not his trouble. The trouble is that mythological monsters and the gods of mount Olympus are coming into his life. And the worst of all Zeus the king of the gods is blaming Percy for the theft of his master bolt.

When it comes to the flower faires by Cicely Mary Barker this one of the most complete. There is so much material here that it would take several hours to really get through it.

This book is beautifully painted, but it would be better if the drawing also includes the background. Some of the Fairies are cropped, so we could not enjoy the beautiful surrounding where it was depicted.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved this book
What a great book. Timeless. Highly Recommend for children and adults. Right up there with the great works of Dr. Seuss. And don't forget to get The Missing Piece Meets the Big O.
1-0 out of 5 stars This Book Is A Paean To Divorce/Splits.
Written by the author and divorcee, Shel Silverstein, this book trys to instill, via allegory, the idea that a permanent split or divorce is unquestionably good. Although this story can be read as a lamentable opinion of the author on the union of couples, it can be also read as a story of an abusive relationship wherein one of the partners in the union is controlling to the point that the other partner cannot stop to talk to friends, smell the flowers or act in any independent manner. Whatever the author meant to convey when he wrote this book, 'The Missing Piece,' it is at best a gloomy read, if not an outright pessimistic one.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Missing Piece
Searching, looking, seeking, just can't find the missing piece. This is one of those books where you have buckets of fun and is easy to understand. I think this book is for all readers young to old or beginner to experienced. They will all have fun reading this book. This book is about a part of a circle who can't find his missing piece. He looks all over and can't find his missing piece, or does he. Get this amazing book and read it for you self. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars More emphasis need on education, being formal or financial
The author, while he does suggest education is important, does not stress it - he suggests advanced education is important only if you are entering into a professional career.(Read the introduction to see what I mean) - You may want to speak to the your children on that, I felt a bit uncomfortable knowing that's what my chilren would be reading.
4-0 out of 5 stars Still worth reading...offers good teen-friendly advice on achieving a financial headstart & freedom!
Despite the controversy surrounding the author, Robert Kiyosaki, I strongly feel that this particular book is still worth reading by teens, as it offers good teen-friendly advice on achieving financial headstart & freedom.

1-0 out of 5 stars Way too violent
This book is way too violent for me to read to my children.Capital punishment, chopping off heads, a little boy drowning.. No way.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Five Chinese Brothers is a delightful picture book based on an old Chinese tale.
Originally published in 1938, it centers around five brothers who each have a unique quality. The First Chinese Brother has the ability to swallow the sea. The Second Chinese Brother has an iron neck. The Third Chinese Brother can stretch and stretch and stretch his legs. The Fourth Chinese Brother can not be burned. And the Fifth Chinese Brother can hold his breath indefinitely. It is when the First Brother is accused of a crime he did not commit, and sentenced to death, that each brother uses his unique ability to save him.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not age appropriate
Leaving the racism issue aside, this is not a book for small children. Even if everything turns out OK in the end, I'm not prepared to expose my children to issues of capital punishment and the drowning death of a small boy. Small children forget the ending and focus on the scary parts in between. Perhaps I'm a softie, but let's allow them to be children and not worry about being wrongfully accused of murder and sentenced to death by beheading. Just because it's a classic doesn't make it appropriate reading. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Definitive Henny Penny
Hungarian-born New York artist Paul Galdone created the definitive version of a famous children's tale. "Henny Penny," as presented here, is the one anyone in their mid-40s or younger will know.
4-0 out of 5 stars Not Your Modern Fowl Escape Danger Version
Henny Penny by Paul Galdone is not your modern PC story and perhaps that is why it is on my enter-kindergartener's Summer Reading List.
3-0 out of 5 stars Henny Penny needs some worky lurky
NOT to be confused with the tale of the little red hen.Weve all heard, at one time or another, the tale of silly Henny Penny.Hit on the head by an acorn the silly chicken is convinced that the sky is falling.Running to tell the king she meets up with a range of different avian types until finally coming to crafty Foxy Loxy. This 1968 creation undoubtedly won many a supporter back in its day.A classic story, it deserved a classy set-up.Unfortunately, the book has not aged as well as it might have.Illustrator Paul Galdones story is a bit dull for a while, and then it suddenly becomes a little shocking at the end.In true fairy tale fashion, Foxy Loxy and his brood have a fine feast from their silly feathered friends.Theres nothing particularly gratuitous about this. You dont see Henny Penny & Friends actually eaten.Nor are there any leftover remains when we view the parting shot of Foxy Loxy and his family. On the other hand, children who (for whatever reason) have grown attached to the silly birds arent going to enjoy the black page that simply reads, From that day to this Turkey Lurkey, Goosey Loosey, Ducky Lucky, Cocky Locky, and Henny Penny have never been seen again.I dunno.Maybe Im being too modern. If the children of the late 1960s could take this book, shouldnt we assume our kids can today?Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I AM PRETTY IMPRESSED BY THIS ONE AS ARE THE KIDS
The illustrator, Tony Diterlizzi has taken a wonderful old Victorian tale/poem and done a wonderful job with it.When I first opened this work I was fearful that it was one of those works that had deluted the original story (to save our current crop of ultra-sensitive kids) to the point that the story had lost it's true meaning and originality. Not so here. This was one of my favorite poems when I was a child sixty some odd years ago, and still is.There are a number of excellent lessons to learn here and they come through very powerfully with the wonderful illustrations provided.I have read this one to the children in class and they all love it.It is good to see that some are keeping our old stories alive in their original form.Recommend this one highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Come hither, hither pretty Fly."
Quite simply, the illustrations are gorgeous! Tony DiTerlizzi's black and white gouache paintings set an appropriate mood for such a dark tale. His artwork vividly complements Mary Howitt's clasic poem. There are many details to be seen upon repeated readings of the book. I encourage you to give full attention to the illustrations. The book may not be appropriate for especially young children as they may be frightened by both the Spider and the tone of the story. Exercise caution and use your best judgment when deciding whether or not to read this to your child.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simply awesome
I have to admit something. I have a two-year-old, and I used her as an excuse to purchase this book. The truth, however, is that I bought it for me. I'd seen it in a book store a year before and fallen in love. The art work is gothic, dark, and incredibly detailed. The poem itself is morosely beautiful. The two put together create nothing short of a collector's item.
