4-0 out of 5 stars Good info, v. readable
Our girls read this after a trip to the Amazon, and found lots that they recognized & enjoyed. The standard of information is rather higher than that in the Magic Tree house books, which is reasonable, given that they don't have to worry about plot & characters as well!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Good!
I personally far prefer the non-fiction companions to the Magic Tree House Books. The Magic Tree House books don't seem to have a lot of "meat" to them and aren't very interesting to me or many of my (...) grade students. The non-fiction companions are truly absorbing and interesting.I enjoy them quite a bit and look forward to getting more for my students, and forgeting the fiction books altogether. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not a fan of the Big Bang Theory
My kids love these research guide books from Magic Tree House writers but this one was a disappointment. One whole chapter was devoted to the big bang theory which we personally don't believe in. They should have skipped this chapter and focused on facts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely New Children's Book for Animal Lovers
Hachiko is a wonderful young puppy who lives with his master, Professor Ueno. Each morning the Professor tells Hachiko these same words, as he boards the train: "What a good dog you are. What a fine dog you are. Hachi you are the best dog in all of Japan." And every afternoon, at 3 o'clock on the dot, Hachiko arives back at the train station to greet his owner once again. However, one day, the Professor doesn't step off the train. So Hachiko waits. He waits for ten years. Not even the kind young boy known as Yasuo can persuade Hachiko to leave his post, and take shelter in a warm home. Soon Hachiko is known around the country, and the world, as the dog who never gave up on his owner's return.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kids remember Russia!
We adopted a 5 & 10 yr. from Russia last year and they just got this book. Both were excited to see things they remember from Russia, especially our older one!She talked excitedly about the pictures in this book.It was an easy enough 'read' for even the little guy to listen to.Good book to remember Russian heritage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Twisters
Do you know how rain is formed? Do you know when tornado season is? If you want to know these questions read the Magic Tree House book Twisters by Mary Pope Osborn and Sal Murdocca. Read this nonfiction book and learn how hail is formed, learn what is the worst storm. Also there are some sweet experiments. This is an awesome book I loved it a lot. Go to the book store near you and get this book or any Magic Tree House book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A real "Twister"
The book that I'm reviewing in school is Twisters and it's by Mary Pope Osborne.I think this book deserves four stars because it is an interesting book to read. The book I'm reading is about weather. They talk about twisters, hurricanes, storms and other cool things. One thing that I learned is hail can be the size of a golf ball. Also, there are different kinds of hail sizes, like the size of a ant. I would recommend this book to a friend because if you're doing research you could find great information. Other books by this author are research guides on other topics.
5-0 out of 5 stars Twisters
Twisters are tornadoes. I learned about them in the book Twisters by Will Osborne. Twisters wreak everything. Twisters can destroy homes because the winds go 300 miles per hour. They hit in the midwestern U.S. in April, May and June. I feel excited about this book because it's good to know about natural disasters so if it happens you'll be prepared. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars New Perspectives on Thanksgiving
What did they really eat at the first Thanksgiving?
5-0 out of 5 stars A Refreshing View ofthe real Thanksgiving
I highly recommend this book. As the daughter of a Cherokee-English African-American woman, educator and grandmother I was always taught the truth along with my brothers about this very important holiday/harvest festival.Early on we were taught to share what we had with the less fortunate and to give to others who really needed something. Also my grandmother the late, great Hattie Little-Tabor who was my mom's mother fed homless people who stopped by her home during the Great Depression. This book brought back full circle the fact that we must all strive to work together to overcome greed to serve all in need. I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars An exquisite book
This is a beautifully written and exquisitely photographed book about the first Thanksgiving celebration in 1621 (according to the Western calendar). The photos were taken during re-enactments at Plimoth Plantation, and are historically accurate as well as lovely to look at.The text gives theWampanoag perspective on the event with sensitivity and vibrancy. All in a book that is clearly successful in engaging young readers, no matter how much or how little they already know--or think they know--aboutthe history of Thanksgiving. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating look at many cultures--a few things could make it so much better!
I am VERY familiar with this book, having read it at night to my 11 year old son for months now!We just finished it.He loved it--he is a huge geography buff and was fascinated with the glimpes of so many cultures around the world. We both learned a lot about people and countries we had known nothing or very little about before now.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book, by Jacqueline Shaw
This nonfiction book tells you everything you ever wanted to know about the Titanic. Some of the information the book tells you includes, how they built the ship, the day everyone boarded the ship, the types of people that were on the ship, and finally how the boat sank.I also enjoyed the pictures in the book. Some of the pictures were of the rooms, the details of the ship, and the boiling room.I recommend this book to people who want to learn about the Titanic and are from grades 1 through 5.
