3-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME PRICE!!!
First, the 3 stars are not about the novels, but this particular edition.
5-0 out of 5 stars So happy
I was so happy to find this for so cheap. My best friend has never read the books and I am so obsessed with them. She finally agreed to read the books but refused to check them out of the library and couldn't afford all of the books seperately.I found this and bought it for her birthday. She loved it and now she is starting to read the books.ANOTHER ONE HOOKED!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Story!
In this book J.K. Rowling has returned to her old form. Unlike The Order of the Phoenix, The Half-Blood Prince moves along at a good pace. It finally tells the reader how Voldemort went an orphan to the greatest force for evil the world of Harry Potter has ever seen. It nicely the course that Harry must take to finally defeat his arch-enemy. It also leaves some questions that make the reader look forward to the final installment. J.K. Rowling at her best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ooops! She did it again
J.K Rowling has pulled off another stellar Harry Potter. Because the amount of time it takes to complete a 7-part series, I thought she'd run out of steam, but clearly she has not. After seeing what happened with King towards the end of the Dark Towers series, I was afraid another renowned writer might do the same. I was pleasantly disappointed. There is nothing else to say. Great book. She keeps the series rolling perfectly. Some of the goings on (people who've read the story should know what I'm talking about) I believe are front for other plans, and I was not heart broken at the end.
5-0 out of 5 stars Harry's Daring Quest
Harry Potter and Professor Dumbledore try to research Lord Voldemort's childhood. They search through the pensieve discovering the truth about Lord Voldemort. They realize the rutheless, evil wizard splits his soul into seven pieces by murdering seven innocent people. Then he magicallyhid them into valuable objects, which Harry and Dumbledore set after for. I loved the book because the story line was thrilling and intriguing. The characters were daring, intelligent, humorous, and wise. My favorite character is Harry Potter who is a sixteen year old wizard who's parents died because Voldemort murdered them both. Harry is my favorite character because he is brave and humorous. Some related books to this one are all five of the other Harry Potter books. I think this book ranks number one in comparison to them all. ... Read more

Editorial Review

As his fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry approaches, 15-year-old Harry Potter is in full-blown adolescence, complete with regular outbursts of rage, a nearly debilitating crush, and the blooming of a powerful sense of rebellion. It's been yet another infuriating and boring summer with the despicable Dursleys, this time with minimal contact from our hero's non-Muggle friends from school. Harry is feeling especially edgy at the lack of news from the magic world, wondering when the freshly revived evil Lord Voldemort will strike. Returning to Hogwarts will be a relief... or will it?Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars By far, the worst in the series.
This installment is easily the weakest in the series. The writing is all over the place, and there is no central plot to drive the story. That being said, the book is still good. I've just come to expect more from this series.

5-0 out of 5 stars It was great!
Harry Potter and The Order of the Pheonex was one of the best books i have ever read even though I am a huge Harry Potter fan. The book starts out by describing how the muggle prime minister and the minister of magic have to be connected. Harry is at home in the next chapter and Dumbledore comes to see him at the Durlseys and tells Harry how they would be having lessons the whole year, teaching Harry more about Voldemort's past and Harry learning how to kill Voldemort. The rest of the book plays up on the adventure that Dumbledore and Harry take together trying to kill part of Voldemorts soul, a Horcrux. When Harry and Dumbledore come home Dumbledore learns of how Draco Malfoy has been following Voldemort all year and Snape is also on the dark lord's side, seeing how he kills Dumbledore.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dustin's Review
I loved this book because it kept you guessing and it was exciting. It was even better than all the others in my opinion.Harry was furious because he coudn't find out what Lord Voldemort was doing. This book is about stopping Voldemort and his horrible plans. The head of the ministry of magic has hired Professor Umbridge as the new defense against the Dark Arts teacher and the High Inquisitor of the school.Harry tries to help out other people by teaching defensive spells.I definitely recommend this book to people of all ages! ... These are truly a wonderful grouping of books that everyone should read if not own. I loved the movies and couldn't keep waiting to find out what happens, so bought the books. Read them all 1-6 in about 6 days...just couldn't put them down. Lighthearted reading that is enjoyable.

3-0 out of 5 stars Magical
She envisioned a seven-part series, each part of which was knocking on 800 pages. That was a serious bit of world building right there. Then, she wrote the first book, a whopping multi-page monster I haven't read yet. So let's just admire her for making an effort of that magnitude.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazazing!
This is clearly the best book in the series to read at an early age.Its non-lengthly and vert exiting and will get children wnting to read bigger books like the rest of the series. It is about a teenage boy who lives with his dispicable relatves the Dursleys becouse his parents died in what he thinks is a car accidents. He gets an overbearing amount of acceptance letters to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry delivered by many pesky owls.He finally figures out he is a wizard fom the letters that his dispicable uncle ahd to try to keep from him.He goes to Hogwarts on a train that Harry had to walk through a wall to get to it.On the way in the bus he met Ron Weasley who eventually realizes he is talking to a living legend.Harry's parents had actually died by the wand of Voldemort.Voldemort was ann evil wizard who tried to kill the magic world.Harry survived becouse his mom saved hm in a strange way.Buy this book and read the amazing story of Harry Potter
5-0 out of 5 stars Good for all
As an adult and a parent I can't recommend these books enough. And I'm amazed the religious fundamentalists can't see past the magic and see the true central theme to the series. That being love is the most powerful force there is. Not evil. My daughters' grandparents have forbidden her from reading these books. Yet they have never read a single page of any of the books. This type of ridiculous judgement has to stop. These stories have everything a growing mind needs. After reading some of the reviews on this page all I can say is that I'm truly glad to see there are still rational people in this world.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Harry Potter series is a must read!!
Some people don't like the Harry Potter series because of the whole whitch/wizard and magic thing, but if you don't mind that, these books are great! It's a series that has it all: mystery, humor, etc. It has great charactors that you really feel like you know, and it has a great moral too: good over evil.

Editorial Review

For most children, summer vacation is something to look forward to.Butnot for our 13-year-old hero, who's forced to spend his summers with an aunt, uncle, and cousin who detest him. The third book in J.K. Rowling's HarryPotter series catapults into action when the young wizard "accidentally" causes the Dursleys' dreadful visitor Aunt Marge to inflate like a monstrous balloon and drift up to the ceiling. Fearing punishment from Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon (and from officials at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry who strictly forbid students to cast spells in the nonmagic world of Muggles), Harry lunges out into the darkness with his heavy trunk and his owl Hedwig. 4-0 out of 5 stars I like the book
I choose to read Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban this summer,as a summer reading book because I thought the movie was good. So , I decided to read the book and see what is different and the same. J.k. Rowling has a great nack for writing children's because i love the books she writes. What I don't like is that the book ends and doesn't say where Harry stays. Does he stay with his godparent or dr does he go back to his uncle & aunts house.Maybe he stays with his godparent or go's to his uncles or he stays in hogwarts. I would like to read the fourth book to find out.

4-0 out of 5 stars It was a great book
This summer i read the book Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban. I thought the book was greta and so was the movie. In the book there is some parts that are the same in the movie and somethings that are in the book not in the movie. That is what i did not like about the book the parts should of been explain so you could understand it more. Overall i like reading Harry Potter books because they are very interesting and exciting to me.

4-0 out of 5 stars It is very funny !!! great book!!!
This is a plot for everyone because it is very entertaining. It is also very easy to understand. Once you start reading, you can hardly put the book down. There are also links to other episodes of the book that makes the reader want to read more. There are usages of magic, fantasy creatures, and competitive sports in the plot to create colorful variety to the audience. J.K. Rowling uses the purity of adolescence and interprets it in the form of courage, cooperation, and youthful innocence that showed the power to overcome many things.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor translation of a great book
It's a shame that such a wonderful book was translated so poorly. The translator, Alicia Dellepiane, has a tendency to translate literally. For example, she translated to "have a fit" (referring to the baby, Dudley, on the second page of the book), as "tena un berrinche." In Mexico it's "haca un berrinche" and in much of Latin America it's "daba un berrinche."Errors such as this one abound. It's awkward for readers who know Spanish well and misleading for those who might pick up this book to study Spanish.
5-0 out of 5 stars Harry Potter y la Piedra Filosofal

1-0 out of 5 stars Exelente libro - Pesima traduccion
Una lastima que una obra tan buena se feamente desmejorada por la pesima traduccion ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Advice of sibling true - they get better and better
My little brother passed away at just 17 years old on July 25th, and I remember when I first started reading year 4, he said that each book only get's better and I have a long way to go. Yes, it took me nearly three months to read this novel, but not because I'm that slow of a reader. More likely, the story and characters were so interesting that I preferred dragging out each chapter to save myself from moving forward to year 5.
5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Book- one you could read again and again
I LOVED THIS BOOK! It really IS a book you could read again and again. If I was stranded on an island for weeks and could only bring ONE book, I would DEFINETLY bring this book, without a doubt. It was thrilling, sad, funny, and beautifully written all at the same time. I admit, I cried. I did. Some people would think why cry but it was so touching, so beautiful, I loved it. It really is the BEST book I've ever read. I can't say anything bad about it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Review from a Perfect Score
The book starts off at Harry's aunt and uncle's house. Harry goes back to Hogwarts for his second year at school. There is a new character and his name is "Dobby." He is a slave. He does not want Harry Potter to go to Hogwarts. Dobby made it so that Harry could not get on the train so Harry took a flying car. And Dobby made the Blunger in Quitage chase him and break his arm.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mapping the world of harry potter
I found the book to be fairly intersting. It is definitely intented for someone who has read most of the Harry Potter books and understands the plot and characters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable and satisfying on the whole
This is probably the most enjoyable of the several different books of essays on the Harry Potter books that I have read. Perhaps it's because the contributors are, themselves, fantasy and sci-fi authors, which may give them a unique insight. Another possibility is that this is also the first collection to cover all of the books through Half-Blood Prince.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Read for Fans!
"Mapping the World of Harry Potter" is a great addition to any Harry Potter collection. The essays are diverse and hit many subjects, some obvious, like the problems of religion (or lack of) in the series. For instance, "Harry Potter and the End of Religion" targets what the author sees as a complete lack or need for religion in the books, while "It's All About God" defends the religion within, saying that the series is, indeed, spiritual in a natural sense.Another essay, "Hermione Granger and the Charge of Sexism," addresses the charges of sexism that have been leveled at the book and responds with how many of the female characters are actually strong in their own right, not dependent on men to make their decisions or succeed at their goals. In addition, "From Azkaban to Abu Ghraib" looks at the increasing amount of politics in the books, drawing parallels within Hogwarts and the wizarding world to fascism, the Third Reich and other oppressive political movements.

4-0 out of 5 stars Horrible binding - buy the hardcover instead
Really, really bad binding. Fell apart on the first time through - and I am gentle with my books. Really excellent for language learning in Spanish, though. Not as traumatic and dark as book 6 (mistereo del principe).

I'm enjoying this book but I was quite depressed to finishing reading page 319 and turn the page to see 537.This is for the hardcover.I don't know if other have had this problem but it's something to watch out for....

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad read
This book gave me more to read on Harry Potter as I wait for the release of Book 7.I found his ideas to be interesting, and much the same as my thoughts and predictions. If you like getting your hands on anything about Harry Potter then you will probably enjoy this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good lead for my own theoretical pages
I loved the research put into this ebook. It lead me to write my own 6 page analysis. Spinning out theories a bit more from what W. Frederick Zimmerman wrote but may have missed. Good read nonetheless. If anyone wishes to read my theories I'll see if I can put my email addy on my profile here on Amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Interested in the next (and last --sob--) Harry Potter book?
I found Mr. Zimmerman's book fascinating. It contains a fairly in-depth look at Half-Blood Prince, as well as a summary of what J.K. Rowling has said in regard to her next book. Not only that, but there is also a section that compares the Bloombury book of Half-Blood Prince with the Scholastic book, basically discrepancy-by-discrepancy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting perspective
I read this book not expecting any great new philosophies or insights into old ones.I was pleasantly surprised. As a person that has read many of the older philosophical texts, I know how hard it is to sometimes understand the reasonings and logic presented.I think this book presents its ideas in a very clear way that even the youngest audiences of Harry Potter would be able to have a good introduction to philosophical thought.

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining enlightenment
As a Harry Potter fan, I pick up almost anything with Harry in the title.Often, I put it back down after a cursory glance. Not this time!
3-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read: Take it for what it is
While the contributors only gloss the topics, it is better than reading a romance novel. If you want a better look at begging level philosophy, buy an introduction to philosophy text book: you can look at X university's philosophy department's webpage and see what they are using for intro classes. If you want some fun reading that will gloss some philosophical issues, read this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
I loved the connections in this book to Bible passages. It is an enjoyable read all on it's own and has a lot of "I never thought of that" ideas. Thank you Connie Neal!

4-0 out of 5 stars A good answer. . .
to some "Christian" critics of HP.He doesn't go as far as Granger does in his estimation of the relationship between HP and Christianity.
5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!
Connie Neal hits a home-run with this book! She gives an overview of the first four Harry Potter books, then draws scriptural parallels with incidents from each.

5-0 out of 5 stars Over 300 entries to locate the myths, legends, literature and history in the Potter novels
If you want an unofficial guide to Harry Potter's characters and commentary on their roots in other fantasy classics, use George Beahm's Fact, Fiction And Folklore In Harry Potter's World, an intriguing survey of over 300 entries to locate the myths, legends, literature and history in the Potter novels. From beasts and wizards to zombies, owls and amulets, this visual Harry Potter companion is much more than whimsy: it traces the literary roots - and often, the origins- of Potter's creations in traditional mythic literature.
4-0 out of 5 stars Cool
I haven't finished reading the book, but it's very detailed. I recommend it for anyone trying to understand the world of harry Potter better. As a writer and avid HP reader, I find it very interesting.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book but its missing a few things
OK Well I found this to be a really good book that helps explain so many things but in the Witches and Wizards Through the ages section they forgot a few people like Sirius Black. There were a couple others but I can't remember right this moment who else.I'd like to know why they'd forget Sirius BLack when then can remember a useless git like stan shumpyke.Sirius is one of the more important charactors even after J.K. Rowling killed him off at end of book 5.Cried for days after that. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Anyone who has read the Harry Potter books is aware that author J.K.Rowling infuses her stories with references to mythology, literature, history, and legends. Even if you don't know exactly what a manticore or a griffin is,it's likely that many readers have at least a vague sense of the existence ofthese creatures in ancient lore. Inspired by Rowling's suggestion to a young fanto "go and look it up," author David Colbert did quite a bit of investigationhimself. The result is the fun, entertaining, and enlightening
