5-0 out of 5 stars A young lad on a fearless journey in search of his mother
Maurice Sendak's "Mommy?" is an interesting pop-up book which deals with a young lad dressed in blue and red attire who encounters some strange creatures in search of his mother. Among the creatures that this lad encounters as he enters a haunted house, we have a wolf-man, a Frankenstein's monster, a Bride of Frankenstein, a mummy, and a goblin. Each of these individuals are addressed the following question, "Mommy?" Some of the monsters try to scare and impale the lad, but not only is the lad not scared, he pulls some rather amusing jokes, mostly consisting of the disfiguring of their protective coverings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
I've been a Sendak junkie since I was a kid. His books have always been among my vary favorites, and I'm happy to say they're among my kids' favorites as well. I also love pop-ups, so I was really escited to learn about this book. And I must say, my expectations have been surpassed.
    5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!Amazingly intricate Pop-up Book.
My kids and I love pop-up books, and I love paper engineering and building castles and palaces out of paper. When I read this book, I was amazed at how intricate the pop-ups were.Whereas most pop-up books may have 5 or so different pieces of paper on each page, this book has what looks to be 3 to 5 times that number of different small pieces of paper that all interconnect and make an amazing picture.I can't believe they were able to produce this book for the retail price!Surely it can't be by machine?Anyways, your kids will love it, although younger ones will need help closing the pages so that the pieces don't get mangled.I might buy 2 - one for the kids to read and probably destroy, and 1 for my collection.Highly recommended if you love pop-up books! ... This story is adorable.I can finally read it to my daughter without crying. The only thing I didn't realize when I placed my order was that this was such a small book.I would have ordered a larger book had I known.

This book was my favorite bedtime story when my kids were younger. We had fun going back and forth telling each how much we love each other. The illustrations are also really nice for little ones.

The mother sings to her sleeping baby: "I'll love you forever / I'lllove you for always / As long as I'm living / My baby you'll be." She still sings the same song when her baby has turned into a fractious 2-year-old, a slovenly 9-year-old, and then a raucous teen. So far so ordinary--but this is one persistent lady. When her son grows up and leaves home, she takes to driving across town with a ladder on the car roof, climbing through her grown son's window, and rocking the sleeping man in the same way. Then, inevitably, the day comes when she's too old and sick to hold him, and the roles are at last reversed. Each stage is illustrated by one of Sheila McGraw's comic and yet poignant pastels. 4-0 out of 5 stars love you forever
I found i love you forever to be a very true tale of a mothers love. Throughout the story the boy goes throught lifes many changes and phases, continuely disobeying his mothers wishes only to find himself in his mother arms everynight, as she recites the same poem expressing her unconditional love. At storys end the tables turn and a heartwarming turn of events is expressed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sweet message, but not our favorite
This book really does have a nice message about unconditional love that a parent has for a child. For that I give it major kudos. On the other hand it is a bit sappy and maudlin for my taste.I agree that the mom showing up at the son's house is a bit strange, but it is a children's book. It's not supposed to be entirely realistic.I think (hope) that part is supposed to be more symbolic.I think the illustrations in this book are so-so and pretty uninspiring. However, it really is a sweet story and there's no harm in having this in your collection of kids books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tear for tear, it is a beauty
This book is the most amazing children's book in existence. It is the epitome of what every parent in the world feels for their child(ren). ... Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars A Distinguished Mystery Book(siobhan fitzgerald, age 11)
Flush is a mystery book that I would highly recomend for younge readers. Dusty Muleman, is the criminal who is supposidley dumping sewage into the many waters of Thunder Beach to save money. This book also includes fantastic thrills to were Abbey and Noah Underwood come into close incounters of being caught while full filling thier full proof plan. They also have a couple of former crew members to help them capture the crook and save the beach for both wildlife, and themselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hiaasen is fun and fast!
Flush takes place in Florida. Noah Underwood, the main character, is trying to catch Dusty in the act of dumping his casino boat's waste in the water. HIs father knows that Dusty is doing this, so he sunk the boat. Pane Underwood (Noah's father) goes to jail for sinking the boat. This book is hysterical, a must-read, can't-put-down!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!

This book brought tears to my eyes the first time I read it.It is warm and comforting.A wonderful message for children that their mama will always be there no matter what...

3-0 out of 5 stars Not great, but okay
I feel like I am supposed to love this book since it is by the same author of the beloved "Goodnight Moon", but I don't and neither does my child. The illustrations are a bit bland and the story is unremarkable. It also lacks the rhythm of "Goodnight Moon".As a result it just doesn't seem to keep my child's attention. On one hand the message of a mom's unconditional love is rather sweet, but the way she goes about it is borderline creepy.By following her unwilling child all over the world she has the potential of appearing more obsessive and domineering than pleasant and caring. In the end, however, the book is harmless and many people seem to think it's a very charming book.I would just recommend giving it a quick read in the book store before you purchase it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Love And Devotion
I love the runaway bunny and my kids love the runaway bunny. It makes us laugh, brings us closer together, and helps reinforce the most important lesson my children can learn "A Mother's Love has no limits." We laughed at the young bunny's frustration, marveled at the mother bunny's persistence, and discussed the love and commitment that strengthens our own family. The Runaway Bunny has been a useful tool in reinforcing my dedication to my children. As young children enjoyed the pictures. It's small and simple, but the lesson is profound. ... Read more

This book was on my bookshelf in a less than a week after I read Inkheart.I really enjoyed it and could not put it down. Cornelia Funke used very good detail and surprised me very much as well.I never would have suspected some of the things that happened but I must admit that I expected some things that did not happen.I cannot say that one book was better than the other but I can say that it is a must read for all ages!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for kids
Cornelia Funke follows up her fantastic adventure, Inkheart, with a more in depth and more mature sequel.Younger kids can still appreciate the excitement and the magic, but a young adult or even adult reader can find enjoyment between the pages. The character development delves even deeper in this book.Inkheart explored what would happen if you could make your favorite characters real.Inkspell asks: What do you do after ten years away? Can you ever go back to an old life? And finally: can you choose who you love?
5-0 out of 5 stars What I think about Inkspell
I like Inkspell and Inkheart very much and I am hoping for the next book. My dad and I are thinking that it will probably start out with the word Ink (although he has not read it yet).

KNUFFLE BUNNY received the CALDECOTT HONOR award for 2004.The Caldecott Medal "shall be awarded to the artist of the most distinguished American Picture Book for Children published in the United States during the preceding year. The award shall go to the artist, who must be a citizen or resident of the United States, whether or not he or she is the author of the text."The runner-up of the Caldecott Award is called the 'Caldecott Honor Award.'So right away we know the pictures and the story are superior to most other children's books. And I can attest to the fact that this is one of the best I've seen for babies and toddlers.I know that this book is geared towards the preschool to first grade group but the pictures and text are very elementary so I imagine even little ones can identify with this story.

I LOVE Willems's books. They are all awesome! His illustrations and story lines are hillarious and fun to read aloud. The pictures in this book are especially witty as he used photographs of a real city with overlays of his own simple chracter drawings.(No, he's not paying me to say all this!)If you pay attention, you'll see a cameo of Willems's infamous "Pigeon," too!Great for youngsters and parents to read together, and will become a family favorite! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Should be called "Daddy and Son"
Bought this for my husband to read to our daughter, but should have looked more carefully at the content because it's all about a little boy working with his dad on a project. Not really appropriate for father/daughter.Also, I do find that the flaps on these books are flimsy and hard to open.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book with flimsy paper flaps
All of Karen Katz's books are well written, cute stories with bright fabric inspired illustrations, however the flaps areVERY flimsy and can be torn off easily by little hands. The thin paper flaps are not durable at at all. Also, the flaps don't all open the same way so your little one must learn how to open each flap differently. Despite this, I still purchase more of her books since my 16 month son picks out Katz's books each day for storytime and enjoys them immensely.

2-0 out of 5 stars So Gender Biased and Stereotyped
I don't know if we are just a strange a-typical family, but this whole daddy and me book was based on things that only mommy can do in our house- daddy doesn't even have any tools. I love Karen Katz books, but this story simply made us cringe. If you are a father who has a son and like to do stuff with you tools in the garage, then this book is for you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An unforgettable book!
Poor little birdie came into this world and his mother was out getting him his first meal. He goes through a series of, "Are you my mother?" to planes, cows, dogs, until he almost gives up. As this book unravels, you cheer on the birdie while he goes through his wonders of who he feels a sense of belonging to. P.D.Eastman uses repitition and adds easy drawings to perfect a child's love and want to hear this book OVER AND OVER again. One of the first books I learned to read by and still own the same raggedy copy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Are you my favorite book?
Our Grand daughter acts out this entire book with dramatic embellishments and subtle interpretation. It is the most interactive book a youngster from 6 months on can love and enjoy forever.

1-0 out of 5 stars I loved this book as a child...but it's really inappropriate now!
First, let me say that I learned to read from this book. When I was a kid I knew all the words and I loved it! But then again, I didn't know any better, and frankly, neither did my mom and dad. I was lucky in that the book applied to me: I looked like my mom and dad and therefore the message of the book, that your mother is the one who looks most like you, was seemingly harmless.

My 20-month daughter absolutely loves this book. Lifting all the flaps and being suprised everytime to see what is behind them. Always when she finds the Mommy I say " There's mommy" she looks at me with her big brown eyes and says "NO" and points to me and says "Mommy". The book is absolutely ADORABLE.

Received this book as a baby gift and loved reading it to my son.Now that he has started preschool we read it as a book about separation anxiety.I was a bit concerned that the owl's imagining something bad might have happened to their mom would scare my son. However, I think that many kids worry about just that and it is important to acknowledge this and also reassure them that Mama or Daddy will come back.Get the board book version for endurance as this book will be read over and over again.

I loved this book; it went in really deep and certainly described everything very well. I got addicted to it, and, though, at the very first pages it may seem boring, it kicks into high gear very quickly. Though I may not as old as the book recommendedmeto be, I understood it perfectly well. This is a definite book choice to read.

I didn't quite know what to expect. I'd heard very little about it. Crank was, by far, the best book I've read in a LONG while. Sad, but very true to life. The story was so engaging that I couldn't put the book down even once...I stayed up until 2am to finish it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Baby can't get enough
My 10 month old son loves these books so much.If he sees them he lights up and crawls over very quickly. He especially loves where is Baby's Mommy. He flips the flaps on the pages and giggles at times and he never gets sick of it.It can even bring him out of a bad mood, even if only when reading the books. He thinks he is a big boy because he flips pages and flaps and he thinks he makes things happen that way.Two big thumbs up.

3-0 out of 5 stars Gender and race
While I do like the story of these books, and my 1 year old daughter seems to enjoy the lifting the flaps task, the gender roles are pretty iron clad in these books (Mommy is dowdy and PTA-ish, Grandma bakes cookies and has low set wire rimmed glasses, Daddy is building a dog house). Also, very few nonwhite characters, excepting the belly button book. Also, my daughter was able to rip off the flaps of several pages.Just OK, I think.

4-0 out of 5 stars Baby's favorite books!
My 18 month old daughter loves these books! She loves naming the body parts and then showing us hers! She also loves looking for baby's mommy.I'll ask, "Is mommy in the closet?" and she will shout, "No, no, no!"It's so cute!I would give the books 5 stars, but sometimes they rip.As soon as we opened Toes, Ears, Nose she ripped one of the flaps. So, you need to supervise little ones with these books, but they are a big hit! ... This wonderful, easy to read and easy to understand book tells the story of each one of us.Children get to relive life on the "inside" before they made their glorious debut at their birth. It confirms to children and adults that each one of us is present in the world even before we are on the "outside".This book is a treasure and parents and children will enjoy reading it countless times.Highly recommended for a present at birth, Baptism, or any occasion.

    5-0 out of 5 stars A Favorite
Very sweet book.I got this for my husband for Father's Day and it's a great addition to our library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, sweet, and touching
I just love these books.Anne Gutman's very, very simple tale is sweet and touching. The illustrations are by Georg Hallensleben, the same illustrator who did Gutman's Lisa and Gaspard series, and his slightly crude, yet charming use of color and quick seeming acrylic sketches are just brilliant. It's a vibrant book.Perfect for a toddler.I bought both of these for a friend's baby and I do hope the parents will enjoy them as much as the little girl will--Iknow I'd keep them if I could somehow justify having a book for babies in my library.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful little book
A wonder little book for fathers and sons, just right for a toddler's attention span and with beautiful artwork. My son picked up on the "game" in this book rather quickly, and enjoys it very much. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for kids
I recently bought this book for my 7-year-old, and was really impressed by both the story and the beautiful illustrations.I felt it was a good story for my daughter to read as it told how the young girl, her mother and grandmother survived a fire that destroyed their home and built a life for themselves afterward. The reward to being able to buy a comfortable chair after all their hard work and savings drives home the point of how much we have and how little we may sometimes appreciate it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Making the Best of a Bad Situation
Told in the words of a little girl, this story tells of a family making the best of a bad situation. After a fire totally destroyed everything in their house, the family moves to an apartment. The neighborhood brings many things to fill their new home, but they have no couch and no chair.Grandma is old and can't get comfy in the hard kitchen chairs.Plus momma needs somewhere soft to sit after a hard days work.Find out how they get the money to buy the most wonderful chair of all.

I am a speech pathologist who reads this to children from ages three to eight. The children are soooo impressed with the foldouts and my favorite spot of my day is watching a first time "reader" of the book as the foldouts spread out.The pages with the longest ladder anyone has ever seen knock the kids between the eyes! You HAVE to see their faces!!
5-0 out of 5 stars My 2-year old's very favorite book
I bought this on a whim because my daughter likes saying good night to the moon.It was one of five books I purchased in one order, and the rest remain unread because my two-year old daughter immediately picked this one as the one she wanted read - over and over and over again. She can recite practically the whole thing and so strongly identifies with the little girl in the story she likes to pretend to be Monica (or she gets confused and thinks she IS Monica). It's a cute story and the fold-outs are unusual and compelling, but it's one of those rare books that has struck a deep chord with her - and that I can tolerate reading over and over and over again.
