2-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your Money!
This book sucks big time!A cheap story plot, combined with events that just don't seem good enough to be put in a novel - puh lease! The only good thing about this book is all the morals it teaches.Even then, the book isn't all that hot.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Sky Is Falling.

Awake and Dreaming is a book that helps us understand just how much we should be thankful for. It also helps us see that no matter how bad our situation, there is always someone in a worse predicament.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eye of the War through Children
This trilogy book contains three books The Sky is Falling, Looking At The Moon and The Lights Go On Again. Each of the books go through a different aspect or obstacle that is faced by the young children who go over to Canada during the duration of the war. There is a wealthy family named the Ogilivies that agree to take in one of the little boys, Gavin, but they are not as willing to take in Norah, but they agree to take her in as well, so that they remain together.Through these different books you will be able to see there hurdles and obstacles as two war guests. If you would like to see the obstacles, and different situations faced by Norah and Gavin, then this book is definetly for you, and you will be glad to be educated about the happenings of the war, and the happenings that happened between Canada and England. It is well worth buying, and it is in language that children can easily understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars defenitely worth buying
i first read these books (The Sky is Falling, Looking at the Moon, and The Lights Go on Again) when i was 12. Norah and her younger brother Gavin are sent to Canada as 'war guests' from a small village in England during World War II. the first two books are told from Norah's point of view and the third from Gavin's. you can read these separately, but i would recommend buying the whole Trilogy. i have always been a fan of Kit Pearson's, but the three books in the Guests of War Trilogy are my favourite. the characters are very real and the books are well-written and enjoyable at any age even if the target audience seems to be around 12-14. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Daring Game, The
This book is the worst i've ever read. It moves much too slow and doesn't live up to its title, The Daring Game. It should have more 'dares' if you ask me. It only has around three dares.
5-0 out of 5 stars Superb!
After buying and enjoying "The Guests of War Trilogy" first, I went out and bought The Daring Game without hesitation when my family was vacationing on the Gulf Islands last month. I was so lucky that I got the an autographed one. Basically the whole story is about 12 year old seventh grade student named Elizabeth Norah Chapman who got her with after desperatly wanting to attend a boarding school after reading many books about children her own age and younger who attend one. Eliza excepts a normal peaceful school but those thoughts crumble after her roommate Helen Beauchamp starts the daring game involving her other roommates, Pam, Carrie, and Jean a.k.a. Eliza Doolittle(Eliza), P.J.(Pam), Turps(Carrie), and Scotty(Jean). Pearson's firt novel had me enthralled and I would recommend this to anybody who likes nonviolent books and also boks about school and getting into serious trouble. Excellent!:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good!!!
This book is about Eliza Chapman and her life at boarding school. You will understand her emotions as she meets new friends, breaks the rules and when she is just plain miserable. When she plays a secret game with Carrie, Helen, Pam and Jean her brave part comes out and when she meets new teacher the shy part comes out. The only question I have about this book is, when will there be a sequel??? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another masterpiece by Kit Pearson
Kit Pearson Manages once again to write a emotional and descriptive book which draws you in from the start. This is a book about a 12 year old Patricia Potter who is sent away to live on a lake for the summer with her Aunt Ginnie and Uncle Doug along with cousins her own age so that her parents can work out the details of their divorce without Patricia present. Patricia's never gone camping before, never swum in a lake, never paddled a canoe, and never cleaned a fish, and also her greatest fault: she's not good at making friends. As soon as she arrives, she is labelled as a crybaby, suck-up snob, and a wimp and her cousins despise her and tease her with stingy nicknames such as Potty, and Pee Pee. Then Patricia unexcpectedly finds an old pocket watch in a cavity under the old wooden floor in a cabin named La Petit and she travels 35 years back in time where her own mother was 12. Once again, excellent description and a good summer read for children aged 10 to 13.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best!
A Handful of Time was one of the most interesting, awesome books I have ever read by the best author! Patricia finds a old watch and goes back to the time when her mother was a kid. Extremly good.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST BOOK EVER!
You will never look at an old watch the same way again. Read this book: this author is amazing, a page turner and characters you will care about. Well done (again) Kit Pearson! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The saddening story of young Susanna Meritt.
Susanna Meritt lives near Nigarra in Canada, 1812. A war is whispering around her, and soon troops of Canadians are leaving Canada to fight America, determined to end their war of 'who owns Canada' once and for all. Susanna constantly worries for her family and herself, but mostly for her friend- Abigail Seabrook and her family, who are Americans, and are against the idea of going to war against their home country.

3-0 out of 5 stars The lights go off...
Obviously the last book in "The Guests of War Trilogy", it's also the least of them all. I mean, GOD!. Gavin is a total mess in this third installation, I remember that scene from Looking at the Moon where Norah opens up a letter from her parents and their parents said congratulations on your excellent school marks. Give me a break! Gavin said himself at the near end that he only got good marks on socials and english. Good? Good is C+. Some good grades. Also, Norah is entirely left out and the whole book focuses on wimpy Gavin who's such a crybaby. This book has bad words such as damned, and bloody and I wasn't at all swept into Kit Pearson's spell. Worst of all, this book totally lacks description and the dialogue is really corny. How many times did Gavin have to repeat that He was evacuated to Canada to be safe from the war? What kind of War!?!?!?? Kent wasn't even bombed in the whole war and there wasn't a war in england. Just a few minor air raids. I didn't like Gavin's friends either. Gavin said one tiny thing and the broke up like a piece of straw. I hate to say this, even though Pearson is my favourite author, this is not one of her best works. A major disappointment. Read A handful of Time, Awake and Dreaming, The Daring Game, The Sky is Falling, or Looking at the Moon, but not this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really good
This book is just as good as the first two(The sky is falling and Looking at the moon). Kit Pearson sets just the right moods for them. Like when Norah was sad when a certain part happened and Gavin was so confused. I like the way on how she focused on Gavin instead of Norah. Gavin is much more imaginative, shy and cowardy than Norah ever was. I'd give this book 10/5 stars because it was so well wrought. A very satisfying end to a great series!

5-0 out of 5 stars best book ever
I recently read the "Guests of War" trilogy which has all the books("The sky is falling","Looking at the moon" and "The lights go on again"all of which are awesome incrediblesuper duper books). My personal favorite was this one.I believe thatthese books are 15 times better than Harry Potter wich is awesome too.Iwould enjoy it if Kit Pearson would write one or two more books. One aboutthe lights go on again but in Norahs perspective and also what happens whenthey grow up, like if Gavin moves to Canada, what happens between Gavin andEleanor, if John and Norah get married, what happens when Andrew tells themthat he's going to take acting, and whether the cousins(Janet, Flo andClare)keep in touch with Norah. If I were Roger Ebert I would give it 1000thumbs up way up. I would recomend it to anyone and evryone. They shouldread it no matter what! Thank you ... Read more
