The Various Elements
While I must agree with some of the other people here who said that the main plotline of whether Sam and David were going to have sex or not was boring, there was more to the book than just that.In particular, I had a soft spot for Harold and Lucy's budding relationship, as well as the plotline of Sam's job at the video store.Also interesting to me was the 'slut' plotline, since I have personally witnessed such hypocritical behaviour at my own high school.While the end scene of everybody calling themselves sluts was a bit unbelieveable I must admit that I did give an inner scream of joy when Harold went up to join the girls.

An awesome book!
The Sister Hood of the Traveling Pants is an awesome book.It talks about the trials and tribulations about four teenage girls who have to be separated for the summer.It may not seem like a big deal but it is to them because they have been friends their whole lives.Their moms met in a yoga class when they were pregnant.All of the girls end up in different places of the world: Lena ends up in Greece, Carmen leaves for her dad's house, Bridgett travels to Baja Mexico for a soccer camp, and Tibby stays at home.Before they are about to separate, they find this pair of pants that Carmen got at the thrift store.It fits them all perfectly, as if by magic.So, they make up the sisterhood and make up all of the rules.They record all of their adventures of the pants at the end of the summer and share them with each other.Its' a great story and I would encourage anybody to read it.

Great Book
My son is actually reading and enjoying the book. As a teenager he has many questions but he is hesitant to ask. This book came handy it covers wide range of subjects and answers questions in a direct way.

Like a textbook
My 12 year old son keeps this book in a stack by his bed, but finds it too clinical--like a textbook.He likes "What's Going on On There" better because it's has a more humorous approach.As time goes on, however, he may appreciate the deeper lever of detail and information provided here.

A helpful resource
While no book on this subject is going to cover everything exactly the way you might prefer, this book does a very good job of covering a variety of topics related to sexual development.The material is presented in an easy-to-read, factual manner.After reviewing the book myself, I gave it to my 12 year old son, who looked at me as if to say "I know this stuff already".Yet the next day, he thanked me for giving him the book and said it had cleared up some misunderstandings he had.We were then able to talk about some of his questions and impressions from the book. ... Misfortune Comes Again
This book might be one of the most important books of the series so far. Why? Well, first of all it is the last book in the series that Mr. Poe (see book 1) sends the baudelaires to another guardian. Everyone figures out that there really is a Count Olaf (who is the bad guy). To try to get away from Count Olaf the Baudelaire's have to live in a village that is ruled by a bunch of old people and do chores for everybody in the village. They stay at their friend Hector's house (the janitor of the town) and stumble upon a poem by Isadora Quagmire who is an old friend of the baudeliares and has a great fortune too. The baudelaires found out that Count Olaf hid her and her brothers in the same town. The council members catch Count Olaf but it's not really him he just looks like Count Olaf. Now the Baudelaire's have to find their friends and make sure the fake Count Olaf (who is totally innocent) doesn't get burned at the stake. During the story the Baudelaire children get accused of killing the fake Count Olaf and they are to be burned at the stake. Will they be sent to their death in roaring flames or will they escape? You will have to read to find out.

All Time Favorite
The Secret Garden, along with A Little Princess, also by Frances Hodgson Burnett, is one of my favorite books from childhood. I still enjoy reading this book as an adult and reliving the fairy tale of two young children who "bloom" and grow, along with the garden. The metaphor is simple, but the charm and beauty of this tale make it a classic. I can't wait until my two daughters are old enough to enjoy it. Highly recommended.

When the little, frail, ugly looking girl from India came to the manor she looked so sad.I watched her at first from a distance, as she was so cold to everyone she came into contact with.I heard one of the gardeners say that her parents had died and she now had to live here, in the Misselthwaite Manor.The Manor has miles of nothing but moor.I think it is heaven with nothing but open land to fly through.It is beautiful, but not all see it like this, especially little miss Mary.

Poor Horton. Dr. Seuss's kindly elephant is persuaded to sit on an egg while its mother, the good-for-nothing bird lazy Maysie, takes a break. Little does Horton know that Maysie is setting off for a permanent vacation in Palm Springs. He waits, and waits, never leaving his precarious branch, even through a freezing winter and a spring that's punctuated by the insults of his friends. ("They taunted.They teased him. Horton is Always a Good Choice
I grew up listening to this book on a record.These days, rhymes, like Mother Goose, are not taught in school or pre school like they once were.I teach ELL but even English speakers are having more difficulty with hearing rhymes which has a direct correlation to their phonemic awarness development.This is one of the major components of pre-reading readiness.Horton also is a good example of empathy and we certainly could use more of this in our public schools among the students!

HortonHatches The Egg
Hacton the Elephant and the egg and that lazy momma bird.Oh momma bird just waiting to tricksome animal into watching her egg .Then comes Mr,Elephant .Oh poor Mr.Elephant gets stuck sitting on a tree for months. This book is a real good book .I would give it a thumbs up.

One of the best of the Seuss books in my opinion
Horton Hatches the egg was one of my favourite books when I was a child and it is lovely to be able to read it to my children and it has become one of their favourite too. I certainly prefer this one to many of the Seuss books available (I have never been a huge fan of Cat in the hat or Green Eggs and Ham) This one has a hugely appealing story.

A lesser spinoff from "If You Give a Pig a Pancake", but my daughter still loves it!
Our first "If you give" book was the "Pancake" title. It was an instant hit with my daughter. We moved on to "Party". It is definitely good and entertaining, but it definitely reads and feels like a spinoff. Where "Pancake" flows out of a single gesture, "Party" feels forced, and just doesn't seem as funny and delightful. Plus, in this book, the pig somehow seems more demanding and selfish than in the Pancake book. Hard to explain unless you read it!
Livin High on the Hog?
Living high on the hog. This brings new meaning to those words and that's a good thing.It's not the "gimme gimme" attitude and materialistic lifestyle that makes this little piggy happy, oh no.It's just enjoying life by creating happiness in everything you do while remembering that sharing your heart with others doubles the fun!

Everyone knows that pigs can be a handful. Which is why it's probably never a good idea to throw a pig a party. For if you give a pig a party, she's bound to want balloons to accompany said party. And, once she's got balloons, she'll, of course, want to decorate the entire house. Then, once the decorating is done, she'll want to get all dolled up - in her favorite dress. And once she's done that, she's going to want to call all of her friends on the phone, and invite them over to celebrate. But if they're not home...well, she'll just have to go out and look for them. Which can only mean trouble.

It ended with the girl getting caught stilling everybody else's belongings. Then she tried to get other girls boyfriends so that they would want to go out with her. So then she had to go back to Spain.

Best for children over the age of 20.
He reminisces about the days of cheap plastic store bought costumes and being too old but trick or treating anyway.It's almost like his stand up act with kiddy pictures!Unfortunately, the tone is too sarcastic for children and references things that today's kids won't really relate to.

Hilariously Entertaining!!!! This is a keeper.
In my opinion people should lighten up about the book. Some people take things a bit too seriously. This is an entertaining book from start to finish. Both my 3 yr. old and 5 yr. old sons love this story. And, of course we do too. They think it is absolutely hilarious. Our youngest has the nickname "candyman" and this book fits him to a tee (in terms of being motivated by candy)..I agree with another review regarding the word "stupid" being used a couple of times. Another word choice would have been better. We have chosen to replace the word "stupid" with "silly." That took care of that.

That was then , this is now
The theme of the story "This was then this is now" is changed throughout the story the boys Mark and Bryon seem to be in school and walking down the streets most of the time and wondering anywhere there situation is. The aspect of the story I personally liked was that Mark and Bryon are in different situations, like Bryon has a girlfriend that mark and is constantly getting into street fights and mark is jealous of Bryon having a girlfriend. And at the same time mark seems to be coming up with money and can't control himself and won't seem to quit most of the time. The aspects that weren't so interesting to me were that Bryon gets into street fights the were caused by the stupidest things and doesn't want to resolve the problems he just wants to fight all the time and he gets tired of fighting already. I think that images that Hinton put out were very persuading to the person whose reading the book, because he said how Bryon sticks up for mark in a fight and how there on the streets dealing with the problems, I also thought that the main characters were believable because I would think the boys were just the typical best friends that get in to situations that the boys get into in the story.The story was an adventure that two best friends have in a lifetime.

Oustanding, Hard Hitting
As a 7th Grade Language Arts teacher in search ofgood book for my students, I hit a home run with this one.Wow! Powerful!
Another outstanding novel about teen boys in trouble
When I was in tenth grade, my English teacher read "The Outsiders" by S. E. Hinton to the class. I loved the book so much that I reread it one year later and consider it one of the best examples of fiction about teenagers. While this book isn't quite the caliber of "Outsiders" it is another excellent novel about teenagers experiencing troubles.

Great Book
I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.
Great story--nothing to do with Halloween
This is a great story that can help people of all ages, even though geared to children, understand the message of the Gospel in a creative way.This doesn't have to be associated with the celebration of Halloween.I know that many people who profess to be Christians still like to celebrate Halloween and feel that this story helps to tie it to their faith.That shouldn't make this a bad book for those who don't think Halloween has a place in the lives of Christians.Putting a face on a pumpkin to do something fun during fall harvest is a spiritually neutral activity.It just doesn't have to be about Halloween.I am glad that people like Ms Higgs take the time to do something positive for this time of year--something that takes the focus OFF of Halloween.

Just a thought on the book
I think it's wonderful book and I'm a christian. Everything was made by god including pumpkins and carving pumpkins is fun. It does not have to be evil and the fact that you can do it and teach your child about god is wonderful. Just wondering if the people who judge the book as trying to turn evil into good buy christmas trees and decorate them?? Did you know that is also a Pagan tradition with roots not honoring god?? How many Christians buy and decorate Christmas trees?? I would say step back and look more closely at yourself before judging others. In the Bible we are not bound by law but by grace. How can anything that teaches about god be sinful?? It does not matter what people did thousands of years ago but it does matter that we honor god in our words and actions today. Ashley's favorite book
The Hostile Hospital by Lemony Snicket was a great book in my opinion.This book is about three Baudelaires named Violet, Klaus, and Sunny. I liked this book because it was an adventure story. This story made me not want to put the book down.My favorite part was when they were running from the shopkeeper of the Last Chance General Store and the mailman that was delivering the paper. They snuck out of the store and got into the V. F. D.'s van.V.F.D means "Volunteers Fighting Disease." I read this book, and I think you should too!

A New Turn of Events.
Dear Reader,
Lemony Snicket breaks the formula and succeeds
The first seven books of A Series of Unfortunate Events followed the same formula. The Baudelaire Orphans are with the banker Mr. Poe until he can find a new relative willing to care for the siblings. Things go badly and the evil Count Olaf shows up with another nefarious plan to kidnap the children and somehow steal their inheritance. In the end they get away and Olaf is on the run from the authorities. The ending of The Vile Village changes this. The Baudelaires are on the run, suspected of the murder of Count Olaf despite the fact that he isn't dead and that there is no way they could have committed the non-existent crime. The Hostile Hospital opens with the orphans trying to find a place where they can learn about VFD, the Quagmire triplets, and some clue that will help keep them safe and stop Count Olaf from coming after them ever again. This time there is no Mr. Poe and no new distant relative to live with. Count Olaf is in much less of this book than we have come to expect, though he and his cronies play major roles in instigating the action.
